JavaScript - Script Goes Haywire When Two Of Three Elements Return 0
so my code is supposed to retrieve three values from a flash element.
now it works fine, but when it retrieves a 0 from any of the three valuse, it goes all haywire.... how could i put in a statement or command that if it returns 0, that all it will display is a 0 instead of returning "NaN"? But since all three valuse added together are supposed to equal 100% i have to run the numbers through a little bit of division and rounding after it gets the value of each one. Code: var techfaction = document.getElementById('tfaction'); var natfaction = document.getElementById('nfaction'); var magfaction = document.getElementById('mfaction'); retrFaction(); roundNumber(); function retrFaction() { var values = document.documentElement.innerHTML.match(/factiontrianglesmall\.swf\??.*\\x26link/i)[0].match(/[0-9.]{4,9}/ig); techfaction.innerHTML = roundNumber(values[0] / 30, 1) + '%'; natfaction.innerHTML = roundNumber(values[1] / 30, 1) + '%'; magfaction.innerHTML = roundNumber(values[2] / 30, 1) + '%'; } function roundNumber(num, dec) { var result = Math.round(num*Math.pow(10,dec))/Math.pow(10,dec); return result; } Similar TutorialsIm working on a function where i need to return the active elements ID. the element will have class="main" id="1" onmouseover="showSub()"> Would someone be able to write me a simple function which simply puts the elements ID number in an alert box? I can figure out the rest i need from that . Thanks, Tom Finally got my favorite system to work but there is 1 little detail left... When an item is in the favorites, the php file echoes: "Already Favorited!" how can I get that response? I have no experience with js whatsoever.. first time I used it. (obvious since I use code that i found on the tubes and modded it) This is my code: PHP Code: /* ---------------------------- */ /* XMLHTTPRequest Enable */ /* ---------------------------- */ function createObject() { var request_type; var browser = navigator.appName; if(browser == "Microsoft Internet Explorer"){ request_type = new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP"); }else{ request_type = new XMLHttpRequest(); } return request_type; } var http = createObject(); var nocache = 0; function insert() { // Optional: Show a waiting message in the layer with ID login_response document.getElementById('insert_response').innerHTML = "Adding..." // Required: verify that all fileds is not empty. Use encodeURI() to solve some issues about character encoding. var user_id= encodeURI(document.getElementById('user_id').value); var item_id = encodeURI(document.getElementById('item_id').value); var cat_id = encodeURI(document.getElementById('cat_id').value); // Set te random number to add to URL request nocache = Math.floor(Math.random()); // Pass the login variables like URL variable http.open('get', 'http://animekyun.com/scripts/favorite.php?user_id='+user_id+'&item_id=' +item_id+'&cat_id=' +cat_id); http.onreadystatechange = insertReply; http.send(null); } function insertReply() { if(http.readyState == 4){ var response = http.responseText; document.getElementById('insert_response').innerHTML = 'Favorited'+response; } } Apparently this http.responseText is not working propperly since it's not returning anything Hi all i have this code
Code: <TR id="tr1" onClick="var ret_val = clickedfun(this.id)" /> , and this javacript code Code: <script language="javascript">function clickedfun(tid) {var elemento = document.getElementById(tid);if(confirm("Tem a certeza que quer remover esta fila?")){elemento.style.visibility='hidden';var numero=tid.substring(2,tid.length);return numero;}}</script>; i want to get the return value of the javascript function to use in database for deletion of that value please help i'm usin jsp and java classes. Thanks guys. I am building a wordpress theme that utilizes a theme options panel. The theme has a area where someone can enter in their email address, and when they do a Thank You message displays. One of the sections in the theme options panel allows the users to modify that message. Right now the message is formated like this: "Thank you for your interest!<br />As soon as as we are ready we will send you an email with all the details." and the page source shows this: Code: $('#right').html("<div id='submitted'></div>"); $('#submitted').html("Thank you for your interest!<br />As soon as as we are ready we will send you an email with all the details.") .hide() .fadeIn(1000, function() { }); (i bolded the thank you message) now the form functions properly the way it should and the thank you message appears accordingly when someone submits their email. However, if the person modifies the message via the theme options panel and uses "Enter" for a return or line break the code looks like this: Code: $('#right').html("<div id='submitted'></div>"); $('#submitted').html("Thank you for your interest! As soon as as we are ready we will send you an email with all the details.") .hide() .fadeIn(1000, function() { }); and this causes the form not to function properly. The thank you message will not show up. Is there a way to fix the java code so a person can use "Enter" if they choose to? Ive narrowed it down to this one section of the javascript. If you need the entire script I can post it. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time. hi guys, maybe im being stupid but any ideas why this doesnt seem to work: Code: function checkSCItems() { //check sccost not blank due to ajax need to do lookup xmlHttp=GetXmlHttpObject() if (xmlHttp==null) { alert ("Browser does not support HTTP Request"); return; } var params = "?scnumber=" + escape(document.getElementById('scnumber').value); var url="_check_scitems.php"; url=url+params; ajaxedInner = ""; xmlHttp.open("GET",url, true); xmlHttp.setRequestHeader("If-Modified-Since", "Fri, 31 Dec 1999 23:59:59 GMT"); xmlHttp.onreadystatechange=stateChanged; xmlHttp.send(null); xmlHttp.onreadystatechange = function() { if (xmlHttp.readyState == 4){ if (xmlHttp.status == 200) { var checkSCItemsResponse = xmlHttp.responseText; if(checkSCItemsResponse == 'found') { return true; } else { window.location.hash = 'scpricebuildup2'; alert('You must first create some cost items'); return false; } } else { alert('There was a problem, please try again, or contact the Administrator'); return false; } } } } im calling this and if it returns true another function is called but for some reason the 2nd function never seems to happen. (that function works fine so it cant be that - if i just set this function to return true everything works fine too) its being called like so: Code: <a href='javascript:;' onclick="if(checkSCItems() && validateText(document.subcontract_order,['scdate','scworks','scpayment','scfirstpayment','scpaymentinterim','scbalance','scretentionat','sccommence','sccompletion','sclabour','scplant','scmaterials']) && validateDate(document.subcontract_order, ['scdate','scfirstpayment','scbalance','sccommence','sccompletion']) && validateSelectNoBlank(document.subcontract_order, ['trading_name'])){window.open('subcontract_order_print.php?id=<?php echo writeIfSet($id) ?>')}"> is there some issue with ajax and return true? do i need to tell it to call another function that calls return true etc? Hi, I'm a javascript idiot, and I need a script to change two styles in two different elements based on the status of 2 radio buttons. Basically, I have 2 forms...#formTest and #formTest2. When radio button "search" value "1" is selected I need the display style for #formTest to be "block" and the display style for #formTest2 to be "none". When radio buton "search" value "2" is selected, I need the opposite to occur. (#formTest display style ="none" and #formTest2 display style="block") I have very buggy code which produces similar changes, but does other bad things, so won't work. Basically, the first selection change displays both forms, which after the first selection change works fine, unless you click anywhere else, in which case both forms are not displayed. I know I should use a function in the head and call it with an onselect or onclick event. I just don't know how. I appreciate any help anyone can offer me! My ugly (nonfunctional code is below) Search by Make: <input name="search" type="radio" value="1" onclick="document.getElementById('testForm').style.display='block';" onchange="document.getElementById('testForm').style.display='none';" checked="checked" /> <br /> Search by Category: <input name="search" type="radio" value="2" onclick="document.getElementById('testForm2').style.display='block';" onchange="document.getElementById('testForm2').style.display='none';" /> Thanks Again Hi guys, it's been a while since I've been here Anyways, I'm wondering if it's possible for a script to enable/disable all input elements on the page with some sort of toggle button. I googled it but didn't find anything too useful except for this: http://www.codetoad.com/javascript/e...rm_element.asp but I'm not sure how to edit it for the toggle. Thanks! I'm reworking a 15 year old script. Here is the original general purpose routine that extracted a portion of one form to another form. Code: function FillForm(f) { for( i=FullName; i<=EndOfForm; i++) { self.document.forms[f].elements[i].value = FormData[i]; }; }; But NOW I'm supposed to use getElementById() Does that mean instead of the short routine I have to put one line for each Id tag and it is no longer general purpose and independent of the form being used? Is it OK to keep using the legacy script despite the Warning from the error console? Hi guys, it's been a while since I've been here Anyways, I'm wondering if it's possible for a script to enable/disable all input elements on the page with some sort of toggle button. I googled it but didn't find anything too useful except for this: http://www.aHappyDeal.com/wj_r.asp?lid=2109 but I'm not sure how to edit it for the toggle. Thanks! hi. in reference to this post: http://www.codingforums.com/showthread.php?t=226228 can some guru show me how to modify the matching columns script so that it works in html5? .. with a long center SECTION element and two shorter ASIDE elents .. 1 on each side. UPDATE .. Houston, we have an answer. I don't understand the logic of Break, Return False, Return True. It was never really covered in our college class, and I see everyone using it. I got an A in the class, if that 'proves' that I really tried to apply myself. NOTE: I understand what the function is doing. I just don't understand WHEN to use break, return false or return true if the the translator can determine the conditional statements. PHP Code: function submitForm(){ var ageSelected = false; for (var i=0; i<5; ++1){ if (document.forms[0].ageGroup[i].checked == true) { ageSelected = true; break; } } if (ageSelected == false){ window.alert("You must select your age group"); return false; } else return false; } if the the translator can determine the conditional statements, why not write it like this: PHP Code: function submitForm(){ var ageSelected = false; for (var i=0; i<5; ++1){ if (document.forms[0].ageGroup[i].checked == true) { ageSelected = true; break; // what's the point for the 'break'? Won't the rest of the code be ignored since it passed the first condition? } } if (ageSelected == false){ window.alert("You must select your age group"); return false; } // why not leave the last else out? is it just a 'safety' catch, in case something other than true or false is inputted? else return false; // what's the point? } Questions: Why use return true, if the translator knows it's ture? Why use "return false" if the translator knows it's false and the alert window has already gone up? why not use "break" to stop the code? Why use the "return false" at the end "else" statement? Hi room, Hey, I opened up the source code for this page in google chrome and since i'm learning javascript, i wanted see if i could "read" it and figure out what was going on. I'm am having the hardest time understanding "return false" and "return true". Could someone step me through this via interpreting this code (in bold typeface): Code: var DefaultValue = 'Search'; function clearSearch() { if (document.searchForm.q.value == DefaultValue) { document.searchForm.q.value = ''; } } function validateSearchHeader() { if ( document.searchForm.q.value == '' || document.searchForm.q.value.toLocaleLowerCase() == DefaultValue.toLocaleLowerCase() ) { alert('Please enter at least one keyword in the Search box.'); document.searchForm.q.focus(); return false; } return true; } Thanks! i'm trying to get some information with this code from my database: Code: function getTableSize(tableName){ db.transaction ( function(tx) { tx.executeSql ('SELECT * FROM '+ tableName,[] , function(tx, r) { return r.rows.length; } ); } ); } but it doesnt work and i cant figure why what i want is that this function return the table size to one variable in another function...something like: Code: var groupTableSize = getTableSize('groups'); i have this in my javascript code but have no idea on how a returned value works/where does it return to???? what do i do/or can i do with a value that gets returned??? i am asking this so i can learn on how to use it cos i am new to all this and dont know how it works...please show/explain to me please? thanks here my full code: PHP Code: <?php use_stylesheets_for_form($form) ?> <?php use_javascripts_for_form($form) ?> <html> <head> <script type="text/JavaScript"> function refreshPage(s) { window.location.reload(); if((s.options[s.selectedIndex].value) = "zed-catcher") { var $index = s.selectedIndex; var $value = s.options[$index].value; alert (s.selectedIndex); alert ($value); window.location.reload(); [COLOR="Red"]return &value; //where does it return to ???? how/what to do with a return value???[/COLOR] } } </script> </head> </html> <body> <form action="<?php echo url_for('adminservice/'.($form->getObject()->isNew() ? How can i fix tis problem???I m expecting for the reply.. Thanks in advance i achieved to make a chain: Code: function getId(id) { id_elem = document.getElementById(id); return { color:function(e){ id_elem.style.color = e; } }; } so this can be getId("test").color("red"); but what happens if i want to do that? Code: function getId(id) { id_elem = document.getElementById(id); return id_elem; return { ????...... how can i chain if i use return in the first place? I have a javascript that takes information from a form and recompiles that information into a readable shift report. The problem I am having is with returns in the textareas. I tried: Code: theReport = theReport.replace(" ","<br>" but that space puts the rest of the var on a different line and screws with the results. How can I replace a return with <br>? |
