JavaScript - Checking To See If Element Created With Createelement Exists
I'm trying to check to see if a dynamically created element exists BEFORE creating another element of the same exact type...but my if statement at the beginning is not working and another element is just created.

Does anyone know what is incorrect about my if statement? Similar TutorialsHi! I'm new to this forum and almost completely new to programming of any kind, so this may be a very easy, obvious fix; I'm just not sure. Below is a very simple script I wrote partially based on random example scripts. I think an error is generated when the while loop is first executed, because any code I place after the loop is not executed. My guess is that when null is returned, it crashes and stops executing the code. Is that the problem? If so, do you have any ideas for how I could fix it? Thanks in advance for your help! I guess that I could assign a default value and check for something in "document.forms[0].elements[0].value" but that is not the approach I wish to take. I need to loop through all of the elements of a form until there are no more regardless of ID/name/value, am I thinking about this wrong? never mind

The element that I'm creating is a div with a few style attributes to to it. The div is suppose to cover the whole page almost like a black transparent window on the page. However it is not. I've been watching an application called JSPDF http://code.google.com/p/jspdf/ that creates a PDF file solely in client side javascript. In a nutshell, it generates pdf bytes (called buffer), encodes the bytes into base64, and opens it in the browser: Code: document.location.href = 'data:application/pdf;base64,' + Base64.encode(buffer); This works for me in firefox and chrome, but not IE. My question: is there a better way to reform the file download/opening in javascript? They provide an example with downloadify and that may be acceptable unless you are trying to eliminate flash from the equation. Thanks |
