JavaScript - Disable A Text Box So You Cannot Write In It

I would like to know how to do things.
1. I would like to know how i would code a javascript so if i edit the text inside of either a certain div or in the javascript document itself (which ever would work, would like to have it take the text from a div but not too picky) and then have it write that text in other parts of the same page and other pages by like putting a javascript code in it's place or however you would do it. Basically if i write "hello world" in the div/javascript document, it will write "hell world" in multiple places just from me editing that one part. ok so help with this would be awsome.

My second thing.
2. I would like to take and use some javascript function, such as document.write or what ever to do pretty much the same thing as my first thing as my first problem, but with a div, for like a navigation bar or etc. So any help would be greatly appreciated! =) THANKS!

I heard there is something called XMLHttpRequest that is compatible to all browsers. What does that actually do? Is there something to do with Javascript? Thank you.

Hi, I was hoping you could help me, I was wanting to write text to the screen but without re-writing the whole screen (e.g. document.write();. I wish to take text and put it in a function, modify it, then display it.

I have two input boxes on a form which receive the first and last name of a user. I want to be able to use charAt() to get the first letter in each box and pass it to a third box on the same form. Is this doable? May I request some help?
I was thinking something like the function below would be the starting point --I stand correct, as it is not working.

I'm working on a website that will basically embed a widget/frame sent by a handler into a user's current page. The user basically adds a script tag to where they would like the HTML to be. The script tag has their settings and is basically a document.write that calls all the code that we want displayed.

So here's my problem. We have a map that we need to add in a specific section, and to get the map we have to call another script tag. So we end up having a script tag (map) embedded in another script tag (the code for the widget/frame) or we end up having to document.write inside a document.write.

Now this works just fine and as expected in Firefox, Safari, and Chrome. However, Internet Explorer and Opera wait until the first document.write is completely finished before calling the embedded one. Of course the problem with this, is that it takes the map out of the document's flow and just appends it to the bottom left of the page. Since the rest of the page has already been called, there's no way to move the interior "map" script.

Any ideas? Basically just trying to figure out how (if even possible) to render an embedded script tag in Internet Explorer and be able to place it properly. I've tried everything that I can think of, including AJAX and Google's unescape script.

Any suggestions, I'd greatly appreciate it. Or even if you've encountered a similar problem, and know that it just isn't possible in IE or Opera, that would be fine too.

Hi i have a function (i wont write it out coz it is too long!) but after i have done the main calculations within this function i wont to display some of the variables in a table.

i have writen:

were it says "here *" i wont to write within the table variable a (which i have defined properly in the function).
However, as i have already written document.write it actually displays the text "document.write(a);" instead of the value for var a.

Help asap please as it in for school soon!

Should I disable the right click option or not?

I have a gallery site, I don't want people to be able to copy the images with the default right click over an image. From a professional looking site point of view I suppose I would be messing with the functionality a bit too much, OR is it OK in this instance to disable the click. I know how to write the code to disable the click, but what I was thinking was maybe it would be better to leave the right click but change the menu options? I'm not sure how to change the menu options, any suggestions would be appreciated

Okey, so I have two listboxes and I want a tickbox to enable one listbox and disable one listbox as you tick a checkbox.

I want one listbox disabled by default and the other enabled and then vice-verca the disable when you tick the box.

If someone could supply me with that code I would be really greatful, butyou don't need to bother with the HTML, I should figure it out from the JS.

Is it possible to disable all scripts within a certain div? Like if I was displaying something in <div id="member"> and a member posts a script within that div, I would like it to not work.

I have a website that contains a large div inside a smaller div, only to be scrolled via javascript. The problem is when you mouseover the smaller (container) div and you scroll the mousewheel down, everything scrolls down. I've been searching for a while and haven't got any answers.

I have a form with a number of checkboxes. The 1st one is "Select All".
When this checkbox is ticked I would like to disable all others. When the "Select All" checkbox is unticked, all checkboxes should be enabled.

Can anyone tell me how to do this? is JQuery the preferred method these days?
