Hello. I need to make drop down box, with 2 statments: hide, show.
And I need one table, that javascript set [style="display: none"](When the dorp dow is: hide) and [style="";](When the DDB is set to: show. Can any one help a little, please? Similar TutorialsHowdy Community, I have spent the past 4 hours strait looking for and trying to modify an accordion style vertical menu who's elements slide out of the top and up instead of the normal slide out of the bottom and down action. I would like it in jQuery, but at this point I will take any library. Thanks for your help. I know some have wondered "What have you tried making work".. jQuery Tools, Jquery UI and about 3 other scripts that looked updateable. All I couldn't get to work. I also made an attempt to fake an accordion using show/hide toggles and this sorta worked, but it didnt have the nice slide as well as my data didnt move on page in the right direction. Headache!!! Help!! Thanks, Cesar Hello, I'm Stephen Martin, an undergraduate Psychology student and researcher. Although I am a self-proclaimed tech geek, the extent of my knowledge ends abruptly at any sort of coding. I need help from anyone who is willing. The paradigm: I am currently investigating the decision making strategies in a particular population (I cannot reveal too much, lest our study be scooped by competing researchers in the field). The paradigm that we use is built through a package called MouseLabWeb (http://www.mouselabweb.org/). MLWeb basically provides an interface for researchers to create a html/php/js/css website that presents a grid (table). A small example is shown on the aforementioned website. The javascript functions allow each participant's events to be recorded, timestamped, and written to a MySQL database. This allows the researcher to know which cells the participant viewed, in what order, for how long, and ultimately to which decision the participant came. Additionally, the PHP/HTML creates the table, but the data within it is populated by the javascript. This is a blessing and a curse. Here is why. The problem: The javascript offered by MLWeb allows the cells to be randomized. This is necessary, because in such paradigms, counter-balancing is required, otherwise there would be order effects (e.g., people tend to automatically read from the upper left) that are not controlled for. So the order of the columns and rows are randomized, the data which is then placed into the html/php table. For the current study, we want the cells corresponding to particular types of information to be shaded differently. For example, we'd want cells that contain bad information to be dark, cells that contain neutral info to be grey, and cells that contain good information to be white. The problem is that setting these values (style="background-color: #XXXXX) only applies to the table as created by the PHP. It only affects the position, and does not consider the information that it is filled with. We want the information that a cell is filled with to dictate what background-color the cell is. Example of the problem (A,B,C are the different types of info, with the surrounding character implying shading) What we want: Unrandomized: [.A.] [|B|] [#C#] Randomized: [#C#] [.A.] [|B|] What the problem is: Randomized: [.C.] [|A|] [#B#] Again, thank you for reading this long post. I'm up for any suggestions! TL;DR The website uses PHP to render a table and javascript to populate it. Javascript randomizes the column and row order upon each visitation, thus randomizing the cells. How do I make javascript issue a background-color change to each cell according to the information that it is populated with. I wish to get the values for the 3rd and 4th cell of each row where these contain drop down menus. I've tried various ways but my code doesn't seem to iterate through rows of a table. I can get the values for the first row, but not the rest. There's isn't a fixed row size for the table as the user will be able to add and delete them. I've put the values in separate arrays but instead of the array containing say [10, 20] it contains [10, 10] as it just duplicates the first row's values. Here's my code that I have so far: Code: function calculate(){ var len = document.getElementById(arguments[1]).rows.length; var cMenus = []; var gMenus= []; for(var j = 1; j<len; j++){ for(var i = 2; i<arguments.length; i++){ var c = document.getElementById(arguments[2]); var g = document.getElementById(arguments[3]); cMenus[a] = c.options[c.selectedIndex].value; gMenus[a] = g.options[g.selectedIndex].value; } a++; } <button type="button" onclick="calculate('text','course', 'credits', 'grade')">Calculate</button> HTML Code up to the first dropdown menu: Code: <table id="course" summary="add/remove course details" width="350px" border="1"> <tr> <td><input type="checkbox" name="tick"/></td> <td><input type="text"/></td> <td> <select name="credits" id="credits"> <option value="10">10</option> <option value="20">20</option> </select> </td> </td> <select name=.... I've tried adding j to the arguments or putting it in "[]" but nothing seems to work. I don't think the platform I'm using supports jquery, so help would be really appreciated for using javascript, thanks. [This is an updated question from my previous thread as I was unable to edit or delete my question] Hi, I'm having trouble with trying to access a selected value of a drop down menu in a table. I have menus in columns 3 and 4, named cred and grade respectively, from rows 2 onwards, and I'm using a function to access them. How do I access the value's for manipulating other variables? Here is what I have so far: Code: function f(tableID){ var len = document.getElementById(tableID).rows.length; for(var i = 1; i<len; i++){ var c = document.getElementById(tableID).rows[i].cells[2].childNodes[0]; credits = c.options[c.selectedIndex].text; } } Your help would be really appreciated if I have an html page that uses the <style> or a <link> to call a style sheet these properties aren't available to JavaScript is there a good way to access them? eg Code: <html> <head> <title>expandable text area</title> <style type="text/css"> #expandable{ height: 100px; } </style> </head> <body> <form> <textarea id="expandable" cols="30" rows="10"></textarea> </form> </body> <script type="text/javascript"> document.getElementById('expandable').addEventListener('click',function(){ if(!this.style.height){ this.style.height = this.scrollHeight+'px'; } alert(this.style.height); }, true); </script> </html> In this example I have the height set but I cannot access it since it is not declared in the style attribute of the html element I have been searching for a long time but have been unsuccessful on how to develop a drop down menu but have the menu items show in a list above the main nav. Not below. I really like the way this functions: http://www.sohtanaka.com/web-design/examples/toggle/ But I would like the item in the list to appear above the main nav so it animates up not down. Can anyone help me on how to alter this js code to perform this task? Here is the jQuery file link: http://code.jquery.com/jquery-latest.js I tried going through this js file but it very complex. Can anyone tell me what I need to change to have the animation roll up instead of down? Any help would be most appreciated. Hello everyone! So, what it does: You can successfully drag something anywhere, but when you click it again, it resets to its original position (I don't know why), and when you try to drag it again, as soon as your cursor touches the object it disappears (I don't know why). I'm hoping someone can tell me why it is happening and how to fix it! Code: // JavaScript Document var posX; var posY; var element; function drag(event) { element = document.getElementById("square"); posX = event.clientX; posY = event.clientY; element.addEventListener("mousemove", move, false); } function move(event) { if (typeof(document.getElementById("square").mouseup) == "undefined") element.addEventListener("mouseup", drop, false); //Prevents redundantly adding the same event handler repeatedly element.style.left = event.clientX - posX + "px"; element.style.top = event.clientY - posY + "px"; } function drop() { element.removeEventListener("mousemove", move, false); element.removeEventListener("mouseup", drop, false); } the html is a simple (position is set to relative): <p id="square" onmousedown="drag(event)">meep</p> Lastly, and most importantly, thank you all for your time =] EDIT: This is the first time I've written javascript code and would like to learn the basics, which is why I am not using a library. Hello there, CodingForums.com! I'm a newbie to Javascript, HTML, XHTML, CSS-- and oh god, everything, so please bear with me! I have come to understand that to get any better, I'll need support. I hope you guys (and gals) can assist! Here is my issue: I'm currently trying to develop a first-draft calculator that will allow me to calculate some values for work and the way I want it requires me to do it with a pair of drop-downs. Take a look at it he http://www.projectvoid.co.uk/ I would like to select the first drop-down, on the left-hand side (Current Lighting Products -> Type of Lamp) and for the right-hand side to copy it's selected value (Energy Efficient Products -> Type of Lamp). Furthermore, it shouldn't interfere with the fact that I'm also using those values with my dependent drop-down, below (Wattage). The only piece of code I've found that might help is this: Code: function setSelect(name1, name2) { var select1 = document.forms.formname.elements[name1]; var select2 = document.forms.formname.elements[name2]; select1.selectedIndex = select2.selectedIndex; } I am also unsure how to utilize it. I look forward to your aid! Thank you in advance. Okay, I'm having some trouble getting my head around how to do this.. Code: <select> <option value="A">A</option> <option value="B">B</option> <option value="C">C</option> </select> <select> <option value="Rhino">Rhino</option> <option value="Bird">Bird</option> <option value="Rooster">Rooster</option> </select> <select> <option value="0202A">Rhino - Text</option> <option value="0203A">Rhino - Text2</option> <option value="0204A">Bird - Text1</option> <option value="0205A">Bird - Text2</option> <option value="0202B">Rhino - Text</option> <option value="0204B">Rhino - Text2</option> <option value="0204C">Rooster - Text1</option> <option value="0205C">Rooster - Text2</option> <option value="0206C">Rooster - Text3</option> </select> So say we had those three drop-downs. I'm looking to make it so that second drop-down only has options corresponding to a relationship between the first and the third drop-down. Example - if you select A in the first drop-down you only see Rhino and Bird in the second drop-down. If you select B you will only see Rhino in the second drop-down. Lastly, if you select C you will only see Rooster in the second drop-down. Just can't figure this out. >.< I know how to edit the CSS, and minute parts of the JavaScript code (for example; speed of the drop). The problem is, I had a massive amount of help making the Javascript side of the menu, and do not know how to edit it... I want the rules to still apply, where only one can be expanded at a time (one of the first drops, and then only one of the sub-drops). I noticed in the code, I can edit it so there can be more than one drop, but that would mean, the whole menu could be expanded Also, I want my sub-drops. to have different span colour than the main drop. but trhe links and such, (everything else about it) can be the same.... My live demo is here! Thank you for any help and/or advice in advance, Best Regards, Tim hi internet! Jutboy Hello guys I have a questions: How can I use javascript to change the CSS the page uses? I'm a noob to javascript so please help me out =D Regards, Thunderofnl We've been attempting to set up a drop-down selection box with hidden tables under it for use on a company website. The site has a lot of CSS sheets (like 20 of them) and more could be added at any point so we'd like to write the code to cycle through each one of them to find the correct variable associated with the selections in the drop-down. The code below works fine in dreamweaver, even with the multiple sheets attached, but stops working immediately when putting it in a browser. Any thoughts/suggestions are greatly appreciated.
