JavaScript - Get The Height Of The Container Dynamically
i want to set the second container's height according to the first container's.but how to achieve the height of the container dynamically.
thank you! Similar TutorialsHi Folks, Hope someone can help. I want to do this with js and not with any html/css tables, image fills or whatever other trick, but I don't know how... Say I have multiple DIV containers below each other, which contain multiple DIV boxes floating next to each other. None of the DIV elements have a fixed height: Code: <div id="container1"> <div id="box1">some text</div> <div id="box2">some double more text</div> <div id="box3">some other text</div> </div> <div id="container2"> <div id="box4">some double more text</div> <div id="box5">some more text</div> <div id="box6">some other text</div> </div> I want for each container (separately) to have the contained box divs to fit the biggest one in height. For example, in container1, if box2 contains more text than the others, I want box1 and box3 height to fit box2. And in container2, if box4 has more text than the others, I want box5 and box6 height to fit box4, etc. In my dreamworld, the solution would be flexible and fully automated, which means, it would look for all container divs of class x or Id x and apply the same rule to all child divs. Hope it's clear enough ;o) I have heard of jquery "equalheights" plugin but I don't think it can do that ? or then I misunderstood something. Could I be using some "get element by class" function and then apply a style.height to the divs? TIA for any suggestion I'm developing a site for my wife's acupuncture practice (http://www.acupunctuurfengyun.be. Since I have two monitors (one wide screen, one square) attached to my computer I can verify how it will look in different resolutions. While doing so I came across a nasty thing: in some resolutions the content div is very small and not using all of the full browser window (left after the header section). Is it possible to make a change to the CSS min-height and max-height while the page is being loaded? I've looked into lots of samples but all depend on a click or mouse over event and didn't want to work with onload in the body tag. I've also thought about putting the stuff in the PHP part of my code but I am lost at this moment on how to do this. Could someone help me out here? Hi, I need to re-size a div to be 100% of the browser but taking into account the height of an existing header div. Currently it works but it doesn't factor the height of the above header div, and therefore scrolls off the page (the height of the header div) I need to manipulate ( subtract the height value of the header) in the javascript somehow. Code: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html> <head> <script type="text/javascript"> function SetHeightOfDiv(){ var theDiv = document.getElementById('content'); theDiv.style.height = BrowserHeight()+"px"; } function BrowserHeight() { var theHeight; if (window.innerHeight) { theHeight = window.innerHeight; } else if (document.documentElement && document.documentElement.clientHeight) { theHeight = document.documentElement.clientHeight; } else if (document.body) { theHeight = document.body.clientHeight; } return theHeight; } </script> </head> <body style="height:100%; background-color:blue; margin:0; padding:0; color:#ffffff; font-size:15px; text-align:center; font-family:monospace,arial" onload="SetHeightOfDiv()"> <div id="wrapper" style="height:100%; width:900px; background-color:yellow; margin-left:auto; margin-right:auto; overflow:hidden"> <div id="header" style="margin-top:0px; height:130px; width:890px; margin-left:5px; background-color:red; position:fixed"> <p>The FIXED HEADER</p> </div> <div id="content" style="margin-top:132px; background-color:grey; width:890px; margin-left:5px"> <p>THE BODY - that extends below the browser window (possibly the height of the header)</p></br> <p>So how do we manipulate the Javascript to 'Subtract' the height of the HEADER?</p></br> <p style="text-align:left; padding-left:10px"> function SetHeightOfDiv(){ <br> var theDiv = document.getElementById('content');<br> theDiv.style.height = BrowserHeight()+"px";<br> }<br> </br> function BrowserHeight() {<br> var theHeight;<br> if (window.innerHeight) {<br> theHeight = window.innerHeight;<br> }<br> else if (document.documentElement && document.documentElement.clientHeight) {<br> theHeight = document.documentElement.clientHeight;<br> }<br> else if (document.body) {<br> theHeight = document.body.clientHeight;<br> }<br> return theHeight;<br> }</p> </div> </div> <!--end of wrapper--> </body> </html> Thanks Hello, I'm a beginner to Javascript and I have a problem. My idea is to move the container to the right of the page when the user has a widescreen. This is what I came up with: Code: width = 1; height = 1; var container = document.getElementById('container'); if (typeof (window.innerWidth) == 'number') { width = window.innerWidth; height = window.innerHeight; } else { width = screen.width; height = screen.height; } if ((width / height) > 1.5) { container.style.right = 0; container.style.position = 'absolute'; } Everything works fine, except the style part. Can anybody help me?? I have a container that has <li> items in it and in order to expand them you hit the + sign to smoothly expand the content under that header. My problem is that I want the header and the + to be on the same line and to not be appended to the <li> items when they are expanded. Right now the read more button(expand button) ends up at the bottom when it is clicked because of the list items expanding. Here is my js for that section, and the css for the read more button. Code: // auto-add-in 'read more' hooks after 4 bullet points $("#att_container ul").each(function() { var elem = $(this); // break up list into separate lists, more than 4 is toggle_container if ( elem.children("li").length > 0 ) { elem.after('<ul class="toggle_container">'); // add hidden container after current element var hiddenContainer = elem.next(".toggle_container"); // save a reference to it elem.children("li").slice(0).appendTo(hiddenContainer); // move the children past the limit hiddenContainer.after('<p class="trigger"><a href="#"> </a></p>'); // read more button } }); //Hide (Collapse) the toggle containers on load $(".toggle_container").hide(); //Switch the "Open" and "Close" state per click $("p.trigger").toggle(function(){ $(this).addClass("active"); }, function () { $(this).removeClass("active"); }); //Slide up and down on click $("p.trigger").click(function(){ $(this).prev(".toggle_container").slideToggle("slow"); }); // Expand and Collapse All $(".expand").click(function(){ $("p.trigger").addClass("active").prev(".toggle_container").slideDown("slow"); }); $(".collapse").click(function(){ $("p.trigger").removeClass("active").prev(".toggle_container").slideUp("slow"); }); }); Here is the css for the read more button Code: #att_container p.trigger a { display:block; float:right; width: 76px; height: 19px; margin: 0; padding: 0; background: url(../images/readmore_att.jpg) top left no-repeat; } #att_container p.active a { background: url(../images/readmore_att.jpg) bottom left no-repeat; } Hey guys. I've been trying to figure this out now for the past 9 hours and I have no idea what I'm doing...lol Ok, I have images inside of a container that is inside of an iframe. When I click on an image, content underneath is revealed by sliding everything underneath it down. The problem I have is that when it slides the content down, all the other images and content are cut off. I want it that when the content extends past the height of the div#container, it autoresizes, if that's possible. But I don't wanna use the iframe scrollbar. Only the parent scrollbar. Here's a link for the entire code of the Website. Open up index.html, click on Salvation and click on one or two of the images, and you'll see what I'm talking about. The salvation.html is the source for the iframe. http://www.mediafire.com/?zqzym4iniyd Thanks so much for your help! Hi all Ive basically 3 php scripts: -one that writes an xml file from a directory of image files -one that creates a thumbnail from a jpeg file resizes it and puts a little drop shadow on the thumbnail -one that reads the xml file and outputs the html code so all is good a little old school, but it works, I get a page of thumbnails in whatever form I want with links. Ive attached a lightbox script I found to open the thumbnails and thats ok. What I would like to do is target the images to a container inside a div tag using jquery, maybe even fade the image in something fancy. but Id be happy with the basics. Just click on the thumbnail show it in the adjacent container. (dont have a container yet thats what i need some help with with) I'm doing my best going through various tutorials and the chm file learning as I go here is the test page that outputs the thumbnails: http://www.eagleview.ca/newsite/cont...om=0&pageto=12 any help is appreciated william Hola, I have a problem where I have a number of random set of elements that have a fixed rule for class name. I want to move them to a container element according to this class name. So for example the site generates Code: <p class="dog-1"></p> <p class="dog-2"></p> <p class="cat-1"></p> <p class="dog-3"></p> My output would be ideally Code: <div class="dog"> <p class="dog-1"></p> <p class="dog-2"></p> <p class="dog-3"></p> </div> <div class="cat"> <p class="cat-1"></p> </div> When searching for a solution, all I could find was simple ordering of elements according to class... Thanks Greetings, I am looking for either a JavaScript or Coldfusion solution to the following problem. First, there are over 60 million product photos so downloading and resizing the photos using Coldfusion would be very tedious. I would like the display an image within a 100 x 100 pixel container. If the height or width of the image is great than 100 pixels, the image should reduce in size to fit within the 100 x 100 pixel container. I want to avoid pixelation of the images as much as possible. All images are external and not on the local server so I only have an image URL. I would like to hide all images until they are resized appropriately. Does anybody know of a piece of javascript code that can do something similar to this? Sincerely, Travis Walters I am doing a project and I have a problem. I have retrieved data from a json file using ajax and the xmlhttprequest, but I am not able to put the content I retrieve into the dojo content pane. The content pane is inside a border container. I have tried the following, but it does not work. The HTMLPage4.html has the json data inside. please help me really urgent to me!!!!!!!as soon as possible Code: function getInfoContent(graphic) { function ajaxRequests() { var activexmodes = ["Msxml2.XMLHTTP", "Microsoft.XMLHTTP"] //activeX versions to check for in IE if (window.ActiveXObject) { //Test for support for ActiveXObject in IE first (as XMLHttpRequest in IE7 is broken) for (var i = 0; i < activexmodes.length; i++) { try { return new ActiveXObject(activexmodes[i]) } catch (e) { //suppress error } } } else if (window.XMLHttpRequest) // if Mozilla, Safari etc return new XMLHttpRequest() else return false } var mygetrequests = new ajaxRequests() mygetrequests.onreadystatechange = function() { if (mygetrequests.readyState == 4) { if (mygetrequests.status == 200 || window.location.href.indexOf("http") == -1) { var bookss = eval("(" + mygetrequests.responseText + ")") //retrieve result as an JavaScript object var rssent = bookss.infos.info for (var i = 0; i < rssent.length; i++) { // alert(mygetrequests.responseText); var placeImg = "" var txt = "" // placeImg += rssent[i].descImg txt += rssent[i].desc var shorttxt = "" shorttxt += txt.substring(0, 30); var bc = new dijit.layout.BorderContainer({ style: "font-size: 11pt; height: 574px; width:739px; border:0px;" }); var c1 = new dijit.layout.ContentPane({ region: "top", style: "height: 11.5%; width: 100%; color: black; background-color: transparent; border:0px;", content: "<table><div id = \"mydiv\">" + shorttxt + "<font color = '#0000FF' size = '1'><a onclick='showmore();'><u> More...</u></a></div></td></table>" }); bc.addChild(c1); } } else { alert("An error has occured making the request") } } return bc.domNode; } mygetrequests.open("GET", "HTMLPage4.htm", true) mygetrequests.send(null) } note: this is not homework Hi all, Currently I am doing this: Code: var e = document.getElementById('id'); e.style.color = '#ff0000'; e.style.fontFamily = 'sans-serif'; e.innerHTML = time; ...blah blah... What I'm actually doing is inserting the current time into an existing DIV and updating it every second. THAT all works. What I want to do is also set an event for that div.... something like this: e.event.onclick = 'runThisCode()'; Of course, the above doesn't work... and I'm not even sure what to ask for doing a Google search... because I get no hits (or maybe it's not possible). So, is it possible, and if so, how? Thanks! -- Roger p.s. I really don't want to edit the code itself (where that div is) because it's part of another app that may change as they update it and I don't want to have to re-patch every new release. hello, I'm trying to load the ads on my site dynamically and have ran into an issue and was hoping for some help. First - I can get the ads to load using vanilla javascript with the code below. Code: var ifrm = document.createElement("iframe"); ifrm.setAttribute("src", OAS_url + "adstream_sx.ads/" +sitePage + "/" + uniqid() + "@" + pos); var ifrmId = "ifrm_" + uniqid(); ifrm.setAttribute("id", ifrmId); ifrm.setAttribute("marginwidth", 0); ifrm.setAttribute("marginheight", 0); ifrm.setAttribute("frameborder", 0); ifrm.setAttribute("scrolling", 0); ifrm.setAttribute("height", container.scrollHeight + (container.offsetHeight - container.clientHeight)); ifrm.setAttribute("width", container.scrollWidth + (container.offsetWidth - container.clientWidth)); container.appendChild(ifrm); But since the site is using jquery I wanted to develop it out that way. So I have the following code, Code: iRandom = oas.uniqid(); sAdURL = opt.url + 'adstream_mjx.ads/' + opt.sitepage + '/1' + iRandom + '@' + sPos + '?' + opt.query; $('<iframe />', { src: sAdURL, id: sPos }).appendTo(thisAd); I figured the reason this isn't working is the difference between appendChild and appendTo and the fact that things are jquery objects. So again the top code block renders the ads and the lower code block just shows the javascript code from the ad provider. Any help to get this to work in jquery would be grateful. Thanks Hi Guys, I am using the following bit of code to toggle information inside a webpage. Is there a way i can make this code more dynamic so that i do not have to use the next() function to initiate slidetoggle()? I would like to have it so i can pass an ID through to the function and it will then toggle my box but i can't figure it out. Javascript is not my strong suite. Here the function Code: function initMenu() { //$('.items_wrapper').hide();//object to be hidden $('.headline').click(//object to be clicked function() { $(this).next().slideToggle('slow'); //alert("doesn't work"); } ); } $(document).ready(function() {initMenu();}); I would like to create a link inside .headline such as .ViewItems If you need to see the code let me know and i will post it. --EDIT-- Right Now my code is like this and you click headline Code: <div class='headline'></div> <div class='items_wrapper'> </div> I would like it work with an internal element like this, so i can't use next() Code: <div class='headline'><div class='selector'>Click Here</div></div> <div class='items_wrapper'> </div> Thanks in advance. ok i have a script which will make a copy of the html in a div and place it into another div the problem with this it creates a duplicate element with the same id so what i want to know is can i create a new id based off old ids using a generic type script Code: function scope(e) { var popin = document.getElementById('popin'); popin.innerHTML = "<div class='container'>"+e.innerHTML+"</div>"; popin.style.display = "block"; } this code is designed for taking content in a small div and placing it into a larger div to increase the viewing area so what i would need is sumthing that can look for Code: id="sum text" and maybe amend it to Code: id="sum textP" or sumthing to that extent if sum1 could point me in the right direction that would be great if my post is not clear enough just ask me to be more specific or sumthing and i will see what i can do to try and make it more clear if needed Hi everyone, i thought about following code snippet: Code: var newfunc = function() { //... } func = (function (oldfunc, newfunc) { return function () { oldfunc(); newfunc(); } }(func || function(){},newfunc)) There is a function "func" and with the above method i want to add a new function "newfunc" to this function, so when i call "func" in the futur, both functions will be executed. It works good, but suppose i want to add multiple functions to func, each time with the described method...could there be a problem with the stack? As far as i understand, the program creates something like a wrapper-function each time, that contains the two functions it combines. So in the case of adding 3 functions, a call of "func" would lead to this: call "wrapper 2", call "wrapper 1", call func1, call func2, call func3, call func 4. The really poor graphic should illustrate what i mean __________ F1|....|....| __|W1|....| F2|....|....| __|___|W2| ...|F3 |....| ...|___|___| ..........| F4| ..........|___| Has anyone an idea, if my thoughts on that are correct oder if this behaviour could be a problem? And is there probably a better way to combine functions, so that all functions would be in one column? Thanks and Greetings! moon-safari Hi, I have the following function to dynamically create an image (in this case a toolbox button): Code: function createButton(srcid, bttn) { if (bttn=='mag') {s='Magnify';h='Magnify';o='DoZoom(event,\'0\',\''+srcid+'\')';} if (bttn=='frz') {s='Pause';h='Freeze/Unfreeze';o='setPicture(\''+srcid+'\',0)';} if (bttn=='swp') {s='Swap';h='Swap maps';o='setPicture(\''+srcid+'\',2)';} btn=document.createElement('img'); btn.setAttribute('src','toolbox/'+s+'.gif'); btn.setAttribute('width','16px'); btn.setAttribute('height','16px'); btn.setAttribute('id',bttn+'btn_'+srcid); btn.setAttribute('class','button'); btn.setAttribute('name','Toolbox'); btn.setAttribute('title',h); btn.setAttribute('onclick',o); document.getElementById('ctrlDiv').appendChild(btn); } which works fine in IE8 and IE9, but in IE7 it refuses to pick up the style 'button'. I've even tried putting in btn.class='button' but JS throws up an error. If I specify the style by btn.style.position='Absolute' it picks this up OK. However, it won't respond to the onclick event either. I have heard that setAttribute is buggy with IE7, which is why I tried to specify each attribute directly. The style sheet for class button is: Code: .button { position: absolute; left: 5; top: 5; z-index: 1; } (BTW, no link to a website as this is local on my machine atm) TIA, Gerald. I need help, please. How would you write javascript code to check (add tick mark) the checkbox in the below code snippet based on a condition? I have tried using the structu if(x) {document.form.name.checked=true;} but it did not work. I think the checkbox name format below, is a problem. This is all done client-side. Anyone know how to do this? Thanks for any help. My autocomplete is working for the initial input box....now when I click add Input button for the generated box also the autocomplete shld work...how do I make it work?? PS:Autocomplete script is working so I didnt post it here.... I just want it to make it working dynamically created i/p boxes Hellooo. So I'm having trouble figuring out how to dynamically add another set of rows to a table when a button is clicked. The code below shows what goes into one set. When the button is clicked, it needs to create another three rows with the same format as the code below, but the variable names need to show what row they're on so I can easily call the values that have been inputed in another function that saves the information. Sooo for example the first variable, bhrs1-1 needs to become bhrs4-1 in the next set (because there's already a bhrs2-1 and bhrs3-1 in this set, which would become bhrs5-1 and bhrs6-1 in the new set). Sorry the code's so long! Help would be greatly appreciated. Thanksss!!
