JavaScript - Javascript For Opening Popup Windows Not Working In Ie 8
Dear friends,
I am using a Javascript which perfectly worked in all relevant browsers, including IE6 and IE7. Its advantage has been to be able to specify the window-size + to decide, whether there should be scrollbars or the option to resize it. It is also fully standards-compliant. It opens a new popup window and is triggered via the rel="popup" or rel="popup nofollow" attributes in the specified external links, e.g.: Code: <a href="http://www.codingforums.com/" rel="popup">CodingForums</a> <a href="http://www.codingforums.com/" rel="popup nofollow">CodingForums</a> The code however does not do its job in IE8. It follows the link, but does so in the old window, not a new popup window, and thus recurs to standard behavior of links. Here is the Javascript-Code, included in the header: Code: var properties = { width: 900, height: 450, scrollbars: 'yes', resizable: 'yes' }; function popup(){ var link = this.getAttribute( 'href' ); var prop_str = ''; for( prop in properties ){ prop_str = prop_str + prop + '=' + properties[prop] + ','; } prop_str = prop_str.substr( 0, prop_str.length - 1 ); var newWindow = window.open( link, '_blank', prop_str ); if( newWindow ){ if( newWindow.focus ) newWindow.focus(); return false; } return true; } function setupPopups(){ var links = document.getElementsByTagName( 'a' ); for( var i=0; i<links.length; i++ ){ if( links[i].getAttribute( 'rel' ) && (links[i].getAttribute( 'rel' ) == 'popup' || links[i].getAttribute( 'rel' ) == 'popup nofollow')) links[i].onclick = popup; } } window.onload = function(){ setupPopups(); } Since I am not an expert, I would greatly appreciate help to make this efficent code workable in IE8. Thanks in advance! CodeMat Similar TutorialsI am currently designing a website for our public library. I have added a card catalog search bar on the side of every page. Our catalog software company has supplied the code. After embedding it, I previewed each page to make sure it was working properly. At the time, it worked fine. Since then, I have added other elements to the homepage such as a Twitter feed and a Flickr slideshow. Now, when I attempt to search in the catalog search bar on the homepage, it opens two tabs, but only in Firefox. Our IT person from the software company suggested I make a copy of the page and strip the code down to see what the problem is. After doing this, I have made no headway. Even with the catalog as the only code left on the page, other than text, it still opens two tabs. The following is the code embedded on the homepage: Code: <div> <script type='text/javascript'> function gotoserver() { sn = document.getElementById('server').value; redirecturl = 'http://webopac.infovisionsoftware.com/stephenville/default.aspx?Title='+sn; window.open(redirecturl) //document.location.href=redirecturl; } </script> <input type='text' name='server' id='server' /> <input type='submit' id='mySearch' value='Go' onclick='javascript:gotoserver();' /> </div> I would appreciate any advice given. Thank you for your time. I currently have a popup window that works fine but while that window is up on top and I click on another link that opens another window the popup goes behind that window. How do I code to get the popup window to always stay on top no matter what window I open up with the code I have below: Code: <script language="javascript" type="text/javascript"> function test() { setTimeout("self.focus()",3000) } function open_new_window() { //new_window = open("","hoverwindow","width=300,height=200,left=10,top=10"); new_window = window.showModelessDialog("","hoverwindow","width=300,height=200,left=10,top=10"); new_window.focus(); // open new document new_window.document.open(); // Text of the new document // Replace your " with ' or \" or your document.write statements will fail new_window.document.write("<html><title>JavaScript New Window</title>"); new_window.document.write("<body onBlur = "test();" bgcolor=\"#FFFFFF\">"); new_window.document.write ("Week 1 Question".bold()); new_window.document.write("<table><tr><td>Is there a role of process owner in your organization? If not, how will you overcome this challenge? Why do you need process owners as a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Project Leader?</td></tr></table>"); new_window.document.write("<br />"); new_window.document.write("</body></html>"); // close the document new_window.document.close(); } // This is the function that will close the // new window when the mouse is moved off the link function close_window() { new_window.close(); } </script> You can see the website here with all the code to make it easier for you to diagnose what is happening: Code: http://www.fdfdaa.com/desktop/desktop.html When you go to the start menu and select anything on the left side, you will see that windows open 100% of the screen by default. I did that by adding maximized:true but that doesn't appear to be working for the icons on the desktop itself. If you click on one of those 4 icons on the desktop though, it isn't opening at 100% for some reason. You can see my classes file here as well: Code: http://www.fdfdaa.com/desktop/classes.js Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time! Doing a bit of window-opening: the idea is, when a link is clicked, it selects a random one from an array of urls, and then opens it with certain toolbars missing. Got a script for each part, but not sure how to combine them: ' location ' seems to be talking about different things in each script. the random script: Code: var single = new Array ("a.htm","b.htm","z.htm") function choose(){ window. location =choose[Math.floor(Math.random()*single.length)] } the opener script: Code: function open() { window.open('myurl',' location =no,toolbar=1, directories=no,status=no,menubar=no,resizable=yes, scrollbars=yes') } Any suggestions? (No comments plz about removing toolbars: still experimenting, and the viewer won't be left stranded). Hello. I am opening a new small window through javascript. Here is the code: Code: <script type="text/javascript"> function openwindow(id) { var left = (screen.width/2)-350; var top = (screen.height/2)-240; var mywindow = window.open(" map.asp ?location="+id,"mywindow","menubar=0,resizable=0,width=700,height=400,left="+left+",top="+top+"");} </script> But on the same page I have another link for a new window which is essentially the same code: Code: <script type="text/javascript"> function openwindow(id) { var left = (screen.width/2)-350; var top = (screen.height/2)-240; var mywindow = window.open(" pofull.asp ?poid="+id,"mywindow","menubar=0,resizable=0,width=700,height=400,left="+left+",top="+top+"");} </script> As you can see in the red text, one link should open map.asp and the other should open pofull.asp... but they BOTH open in pofull. So I have tried to change the function name for one of them but then it doesnt work at all. I am quite confused here. I have tried everything to separate the two scripts but nothing has worked. Can someone help? Hi all, I am somewhat new to JavaScript and am having a small problem. I am building an experimental website that contains music. It's called url removed. To navigate around the website there is a graphic of a piano keyboard and if you click on an individual key you can go to "Home", "Recordings", "Contact", or "Jukebox". My problem is with the key labeled "Jukebox". I have the graphic set up using an Area Map. When you click on the area that says "Jukebox", it is supposed to open a small pop up window with the jukebox of tunes. It works great but it navigates away from the website and the larger window behind the jukebox is just a plain white window and says [object] on it. Here is the area map code I am using containing the javascript: Code: <AREA SHAPE="rect" HREF="javascript:window.open('ShirleyLee.html','jukebox', 'toolbar=0, location=0, directories=0, status=0,menubar=0, scrollbars=1, resizable=0, copyhistory=0, left=0,top=0, screenX=0, screenY=0, width=410, height=300')"; onMouseover="document.roll.src=F1_Down.src" onMouseout="document.roll.src=KeysUp.src" COORDS="233,344,335,384" NAME="roll" ALT="F1"> Would someone be able to show me how to open the pop up and stay on my site? Thanks! Dan In the past I write the jave script to popup windows in the browser for tell our visitor about news & event but now most of browser will block popup by default. Someone can show me an example about the professional popup with out the block.Thank you
I have searched high and low to find this script. Not having much luck at all. What i want to do is, when someone clicks a link the image pops up on screen in its own nice window smack down in the middle of the screen over top of the website. I want it to look neat tho, best example i can find is @ curse.com http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-a...st-helper.aspx If you click that link and scroll down to the screen shot section and click on one of the images you can see how nice and professional it looks. How can i accomplish this? Thanks so much in advance~ Hi Everyone, I have the following problem that I have been trying to figure out for a few hours now and am hoping someone can give me a help out. I am opening a popup - this popup is solely to take an image url and as such has one field. On this 1st popup I have a 'button' which when clicked launches a 2nd popup window containing a file browser. The user selects the file by double clicking on the image they want, the url is passed back to the 1st popup, poulating the field and the 2nd popup is closed. Work perfectly in FF etc.. but in IE7 and IE8 it will not work. I am using the following function, linked to the button in the 1st popup, to open the 2nd popup window pass across the name of the field and the window object to the 2nd window. Code: function popupTwoInit(file_path, field_name, win) { var w = window.open(file_path, null, 'toolbar=yes,menubar=yes,width=900,height=600'); w.fileFileField = field_name; w.fileFileWin = win; } Where w is holding the window object created by the window.open, field_name is the name of the field on the popup that I wish to pass back a value to and win is the window object of the 1st popup. I am using this function as the callback to poulate the field in the 1st dialog after an image in the 2nd dialog has been selected: Code: filebrowser_callback(url) { window.fileFileWin.document.forms[0].elements[window.fileFileField].value = url; window.fileFileWin.focus(); window.close(); } So this function accesses the passed through window object and field name from the window.open function, populates the field, gives the 1st popup focus and closes the 2nd popup. I thought about using opener in the 2nd popup to access the window object and field in the 1st popup but opener seems to refer to the main page in the browser - perhaps because I am using 2 popups OR I have got that wrong. Like I say works perfectly in FF but IE is always undefined for both 'window.fileFileWin' & 'window.fileFileField' which seems to suggest that the object is not interpreted by IE in the first function? I am a PHP developer with limited Javascript knowledge so any help would be great. Thanks very much. Hey Guys, I feel like a complete idiot posting this, but I clearly am missing something. I'm trying to open a window with the specs below but all it does is open a standard sized window. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Code: <SCRIPT LANGUAGE="javascript"> function open_window() { window.open ('https://domain.com/document.php','newwindow',config='height=418,width=590,toolbar=no,menubar=no,scrollbars=no,resizable=no,location=no,directories=no,status=no') } </SCRIPT> <p><a onclick="open_window()"><img src="images/image.png" width="142" height="113" /></a></p> Hello, I need your help, I have the following code below, and its giving me an error saying: "The system cannot find the file specified". Code: <html> <script language="javascript" type="text/javascript"> function start_ccm(){ var wsh = new ActiveXObject('WScript.Shell'); wsh.exec("C:\Program Files\WorkDynamics Technologies\ccmApplications\ccmMercury.exe") } </script> </head> <body> <input id="Button1" onclick="start_ccm()" type="button" value="START" /> </body> </html> There is nothing wrong with the location, but my best guess are the spaces in the file path. Any help with this is greatly appreciated. Cheers, J Hi, On my website, I have one of those trust seals that opens a new window to display account details. Last week it worked fine, but today it is not working. I am sure that I didn't change the code. It still works in IE but the Mox Firefox window opens with no address. This is my js code for the new window: Code: <script language="javascript" type="text/javascript"> <!-- var win=null; function NewWindow(mypage, myname,w,h,scroll){ LeftPosition=300; TopPosition=150; settings='width='+w+',height='+h+',top='+TopPosition+',left='+LeftPosition+',scrollbars='+scroll+',location=yes, directories=no,status=no,menubar=no,toolbar=no,resizable=yes'; win=window.open(mypage, myname, settings); if(win.focus){win.focus();}} function hidestatus(){ window.status='' return true } if (document.layers) document.captureEvents(Event.MOUSEOVER | Event.MOUSEOUT) document.onmouseover=hidestatus document.onmouseout=hidestatus // --> </script> And this is my HTML Code: <!-- // SF-Code Affiliate Marketing ##ak18d54kt** // --> <a href="http://www.support-focus.com/check.php?key=SFM64912" onclick="NewWindow(this.href,'','860','700','yes','default'); return false" onfocus="this.blur()" > <img src="http://www.support-focus.com/image_load.php?id=SFM64912" alt="Support-Focus Membership Click to Verify - Before you Buy" border="0" ></a><br><br> The actual trust seal code appears at the bottom of ths page: Affiliate Marketing test page Can anyone see any problems with the code ? I think I did get a firefox update about a week ago has anyone noticed any changes ? ( I hope its just my code that is wrong ) Oh BTW if I just enter the link from the trust seal directly into the browser, it opens fine. Thanks Hello everyone. I am trying to add the functionality of having a mouseover popup image with multiple different popup images. I have found the code seen below and altered it for my uses and was hoping to find out if someone can tell me why I am seeing the same image with each mouseover. P/S : In Windows, the users are not allow to edit or replace the file if it's being read. Requirements : The users must read the file in local drive after copy from the server. 2 methods been tried : 1. I tried the method which make the javascript to close the browser(IE) first, then copy and replace the file but after the browser is close, everything stopped. 2. Then, I also tried to reopen the file from server first, then only I copy the file from server and replace the local file again but the problem exists again. Even though the local file is closed and file from server is open, the system just doesn't allow me to copy and replace the local file. Why ? Can anyone give me some suggestion or advice please ? Really need help on this issue. Hi - I have an ASP.Net 4.0 solution that runs fine on a Windows 2008 server. However, I've just been given a new Windows 7 64-bit machine to use as my development machine and I'm having a problem with one of my aspx pages. This page has some javascript on it, which runs fine, but then it gets to the following code: Code: <script type="text/javascript"> //<![CDATA[ var theForm = document.forms['aspnetForm']; if (!theForm) { theForm = document.aspnetForm; } function __doPostBack(eventTarget, eventArgument) { if (!theForm.onsubmit || (theForm.onsubmit() != false)) { theForm.__EVENTTARGET.value = eventTarget; theForm.__EVENTARGUMENT.value = eventArgument; theForm.submit(); } } //]]> </script> This not code that I've written; it's code that's generated client-side that I see as I'm debugging my app in Visual Studio 2010 (trying to figure out what the $^#$ is going on). At any rate, once this code completes, the app does nothing. The debugger should take me to some server-side code, but it doesn't. It just sits there. The result is that the page doesn't do what it's supposed to do (no inserts to databases, no success messages, no nothing). As I said, this problem is restricted to my W7 64-bit machine; it runs fine on W2008. Other pages with javascript in the same solution work fine on my W7 machine. I found a post (http://dopostback.net/index.php/net-...anel-problems/) that discusses a similar issue within an UpdatePanel, but I'm not using UpdatePanel. My page does have hidden controls on it, but so do other pages that work just fine. Does anyone know what could be causing this? Thanks! I am using JavaScript for popups in my OpenLayers map. All the html tags like <br> work in the popup window except for the link href tag. Everytime I put in a link in my popup window it doesnt work: Code: var mystring = "here is link:<br> <a href=\"www.sun.com\">link</a>"; popup = New OpenLayers.Popup.FramedCloud("chck", feature.coord, null, mystring, null, true, onPopupClose); Also tried link without quotes and with ticks and nothing seems to work with the link not taking me anywhere. Please advise. Ok, I'm not a javascript expert, but I'm using a Drupal module called Calendar which uses some javascript to popup links in a DIV instead of going to a new page. This appears to work by adding class="popup" to links on the calendar. I want to use the same functionality to link to calendar events from other areas on the site, not just on the calendar. It looks like the javascript file is loaded on every page of the site, but adding class="popup" only results in an empty DIV with a close button, without actually loading the content. Can anyone please help me solve this? A link to what I'm working on is he http://67.220.206.170/~jazzbone/?q=home. The upcoming events section is a block from the Calendar view (created by the Calendar module), however it does not do popups by default like the calendar page, so I've tried adding class="popup" to these links to make it work. You can see in the main body of the page is a test link with class="popup" as a test as well. I want them to behave like the popups on the event calendar page. I think this is the javascript file in question: http://67.220.206.170/~jazzbone/site...r/jcalendar.js I know this is a lot, and I'm a newbie here, but I appreciate any help, thanks. I have a loop that originally printed out a day, in a table, that linked to a new page. Code: out.println("<th height=100><a href=eventPage.jsp?month="+(n+1)+"&day="+d+">" + d + "</a>"); This works fine but now I want to instead have it be a link a page thats a pop up. The code I have now is as follows Code: out.println("<th height=100><a href="eventPage.jsp?month="+(n+1)+"&day="+d"" onclick="popUp(this.href);return false"> + d + "</a>">); and Code: <script type="text/javascript"> function popUp(URL) { <!-- window.open(URL,'width=300,height=300'); //--> } </script> I can not seem to find where I am going wrong.
