JavaScript - Follow Scrolling Style Menu
Need a little help. I have a project to do for a client and he wants a "Follow Scrolling Style Menu" He gave me an example of the exact one he wants, http://redvsblue.com. When you scroll down the page, you'll see that the menu follows you on the top and when you get back to the top of the page, it locks back where its suppose to be. Trouble is I cant find anywhere that shows how to do it. I was able to *rip* the code from redvsblue and modify it (but I highly doubt thats legal ) So any help would be much appreciated. thanks in advance.
Similar TutorialsHi! I'm trying to build a menu that works just like this one: http://deluxe-menu.com/ajax-technology-menu-sample.html The menu automatically scrolls when the menu doesn't fit the browser window. How is a menu that works like this built? Is there any free demos/examples? Thanks in advance! I've been searching all over with no luck.. I have a menu with several links placed side by side, more than will fit across the screen. So what I'm looking for is a clickable right and left arrow on either side of the menu that would allow me to scroll horizontally through the links. i need to be able to click on the navigatation arrows and links (which will fade in various images when hovered over) without it leaving/refreshing the page. Here is a simple sketch of the menu: <- Link1 - Link 2 - Link 3 - Link 4 - Link 5 -> [images will fade in and out down here as links are hovered over] I've seen slideshows that are similar to this except my layout will be more complex than just having a big square area to display images in. I just need the basic functions to work (the sideways navigation) and then I can take it from there. any ideas? Sorry if I'm describing this wrong. But I was wondering if there was any premade dropdown menu which opens based on what position you are on the page. For example, when I'm on the top of the page and hover the mouse over the dropdown menu, the menu opens upward instead of downward because the navigation is mid-screen. But if I was to be more than halfway across the screen and still see the navigation as it was on top of the screen and hover the mouse over it, the dropdown menu opens downward as oppose to up. I hope I explained that right or at least if it sounds right to someone. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If you could direct me to a resource you may know of. Thank you for your time. I have a few hundred popups that I am trying to change to a "lightbox" style solution: Code: <!DOCTYPE html> <html> <head> <title>Test 1</title> <script src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.4.3/jquery.min.js"></script> <script src="../../js/jquery.colorbox-min.js"></script> <link rel="stylesheet" href="../../css/colorbox5.css" media="screen"> <script src="../../js/ssm.js" type="text/javascript"></script> <script src="../../js/ssmitems3a.js" type="text/javascript"></script> <link rel="stylesheet" href="../../css/ssmitems.css" type="text/css"> <script> $(document).ready(function(){ $("a[rel='tip']").colorbox(); }); </script> </head> </script> <body> <a rel="tip" href="tip1(AC)2.html"><img border="0" src="../../img/tipani1.gif" width="50" height="74"></a> </body> </html> The new colorbox popup solution works well, but in some browsers - notably IE - it conflicts with the SIDE MENU routine I use. I think the menu is old code, but it works. However, to get the new "lightbox-style" popup to work in IE, I have to include <!DOCTYPE html>. In the other browsers, omitting the declaration apparently solves the conflict problem (but I feel it ought to be there). I really don't know what to do. Tinker with the side menu code? Here is a demo with the <!DOCTYPE html> declaration: http://www.aapress.com.au/ieltsonlin...conflict1.html ...and without it: http://www.aapress.com.au/ieltsonlin...conflict2.html I have tried with a full declaration but it makes no difference at all. And further reading online suggests <!DOCTYPE html> is OK. Does anyone spot a reason for the conflict? I'm wondering if theirs a way to make a dim light, sorta like a candle follow my mouse cursor on a webpage?
hi I have a popup box on a tag and I want to that this box will follow the mouse cursor when is onmouseover. site: http://www.actual-news.co.uk can you help me please thank you this is my popup box javascript code: Code: $(function () { $('.bubbleInfo').each(function () { // options var distance = 0; var time = 250; var hideDelay = 30; var hideDelayTimer = null; // tracker var beingShown = false; var shown = false; var trigger = $('.trigger', this); var popup = $('.popup', this).css('opacity', 0); // set the mouseover and mouseout on both element $([trigger.get(0), popup.get(0)]).mouseover(function () { // stops the hide event if we move from the trigger to the popup element if (hideDelayTimer) clearTimeout(hideDelayTimer); // don't trigger the animation again if we're being shown, or already visible if (beingShown || shown) { return; } else { beingShown = true; // reset position of popup box popup.css({ top: 10, left: 50, display: 'block' // brings the popup back in to view }) // (we're using chaining on the popup) now animate it's opacity and position .animate({ top: '-=' + distance + 'px', opacity: 1 }, time, 'swing', function() { // once the animation is complete, set the tracker variables beingShown = false; shown = true; }); } }).mouseout(function () { // reset the timer if we get fired again - avoids double animations if (hideDelayTimer) clearTimeout(hideDelayTimer); // store the timer so that it can be cleared in the mouseover if required hideDelayTimer = setTimeout(function () { hideDelayTimer = null; popup.animate({ top: '-=' + distance + 'px', opacity: 0 }, time, 'swing', function () { // once the animate is complete, set the tracker variables shown = false; // hide the popup entirely after the effect (opacity alone doesn't do the job) popup.css('display', 'none'); }); }, hideDelay); }); }); }); Hi, Is it possible to rotate a dial to follow the mouse cursor? I'm trying to recreate this: http://verbdesign.com/hl/rockwell/index.html but would rather it worked like this: http://www.actionscript.org/resource...-II/Page1.html ...but in javascript. Any help extremely welcome. Thanks, Richard if I have an html page that uses the <style> or a <link> to call a style sheet these properties aren't available to JavaScript is there a good way to access them? eg Code: <html> <head> <title>expandable text area</title> <style type="text/css"> #expandable{ height: 100px; } </style> </head> <body> <form> <textarea id="expandable" cols="30" rows="10"></textarea> </form> </body> <script type="text/javascript"> document.getElementById('expandable').addEventListener('click',function(){ if(!this.style.height){ this.style.height = this.scrollHeight+'px'; } alert(this.style.height); }, true); </script> </html> In this example I have the height set but I cannot access it since it is not declared in the style attribute of the html element Hi, I'm looking to create a div which contains a list of news items which can be vertically scrolled through by hovering near the top or the bottom of the div. It will then automatically start scrolling through the content. The nearer to the bottom of the div they position their mouse, the faster the scrolling is. Is this something which is possible, and if so how can I do this? Thanks Curt Hi there, I was wondering of there is any way to have a browser window scroll down when your mouse reaches the bottom of the page? Any help would be much appreciated, Thanks Hello. I am in the process of making a basic game board using javascript. Just a table with a bunch of cells that are blank, soon to be colored. However, what I want to do is create my board and be able to scroll depending on where the mouse cursor is. For example, if it is 100px away from the right side of the screen, then move the board to the right. I am trying to use the information from: here I can't seem to get it to work. I have checked firebug, set and checked breakpoints, but it never moves and I am not sure why. Could anyone please help? Thank you. Essentially, I want the links to gradually scroll the containing div to the specified element's position. I wrote this in a roundabout manner for the sake of learning but I'll clean it up once I can get the function to work which... simply will not. Help? For example I have a link , something like this :<a href="#" title="" class="rating like" onclick="MakeRequestpos()">hi!</a> When I click on it , the page will scroll up and it's bother me . for example , I scroll the page down and When I click on the link , it'll scroll up . How can I solve it ? thanks Hi, I know that iframes can be set to have scroll bars automatically apear when needed or put them there permanantly. However, I would like to have a Javascript slider on the topmost page scroll the iframe. It was possible to make a link on the topmost page change the content of the iframe by putting the iframe name in the link's target. Is this possible with a slider? I ask this because some of the content inside the iframe is on external pages so obviously we can't add the scroll bar there. I need a marquee code that displays images in a continuous vertical cycle.
This is what i need to do: I have a single <DIV> </DIV> for rendering dynamic HTML content. it already has a scrollbar in it when it overflows with text. I want to be able to prevent the user from selecting text on the DIV, and at the same time, when they click on the DIV and drag the mouse up or down , the HTML document will be scrolled proportionally to the dragging. i would also like to Hide the Scrollbar (not disable it). any suggestions? I am creating a testimonials page on a customers site, and I am wanting it to be like a scrolling content. I have the border created, and I want to have text inside the border that will scroll sideways displaying a new one every 10 seconds or so, but having the ability to move between the content. Can anyone tell me what sort of script I should use? I've seen something like it before, but I've had a mind blank. I know it's some kind of Java scripting. Any ideas? Thanks in advance I am looking to have a panoramic image used as the background webpage scroll automatically while the page is open. I do not want the user to have to scroll the image or hover over a div. Is there a way to accomplish this in JS?
