JavaScript - Initializing Function Of An External Javascript
Hi, I've made a tabbing system with javascript which consists of a couple of functions and all I need to do is to initialize one of the functions from each html page the script is linked to.
Here is the function I want to initialize: Code: function change(key, n){ hideTabs(); var tab = "#tab"+key; showTab(tab); for (c=1;c<=n;c++){ var id = "div#opt"+c; onClick(id, c, key, n); } var opt = "#opt"+key; setActive(opt); } The parameter key would be the default selected tab and n being the number of tabs. So if I was to have 3 tabs with first one being selected by default I'd say change(1, 3). I just need to know how to do this from the html file since I'll be using it on multiple pages and I don't want to have a different js file for each page. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Similar TutorialsHi I have a requirement that from a different domain I will be calling my domain javascript adn calling the fucntion of it directly. I dont want to ask the partner site first download the js and then call the function of it. rather I have seen someplaces they just call the js on links and functions are called directly. in my partner site html I should have something like <a href="http://www.mydomain.com/inc/js/abc.js" >call js </a> and my js will have: function hi(){ alert("hi"); } hi(); so I was expecting that I will see an alert with "hi" but this is not happening. any help mjask Hi I'm trying to call a external .js file that contains a function from a webpage, but haven't been able to discover how to reference the function. First, the function: Code: function biggestOfTwo(valueOne, valueTwo) { var big; if(valueOne > valueTwo) { big = valueOne; } else { big = valueTwo; } return big; } ... and the xhtml calling it... Code: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <title>An XHTML 1.0 Strict standard template</title> <meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html;charset=utf-8" /> <script src="compare.js" type="text/javascript" /> </head> <body> <script type = "text/javascript"> var dataInput1; var dataInput2; dataInput1 = prompt("Enter the first number to be compared"); dataInput2 = prompt("Enter the second number to be compared"); alert("The biggest value is " + biggestOfTwo(dataInput1, dataInput2)); </script> </body> </html> According to the book Beginning JavaScript 4th Edn, this should work - why isn't it? Jenny My slide show seem to not be initializing I used a base from webmonkey.com and tweaked it around to be exactly what I need and it won't start. Any ideas with whats wrong? here is my js Code: var interval = 1500; //1.5 secs var random_display = 0; //goes in order //defines where the images are stored var imageDir = "../image/slideshow1/"; //set images here var imageNum = 0; imageArray = new Array(); imageArray[imageNum++] = new imageItem(imageDir + "01.jpg"); imageArray[imageNum++] = new imageItem(imagedir + "02.jpg"); imageArray[imageNum++] = new imageItem(imagedir + "03.jpg"); imageArray[imageNum++] = new imageItem(imagedir + "04.jpg"); //find total amount of images using .length var totalImages = imageArray.length; function imageItem(image_location){ this.image_item = new Image(); this.image_item.src = image_location; } function get_ImageItemLocation(imageObj) { return(imageObj.image_item.src) } //This is used if random is set to 1 function randNum(x, y){ var range = y - x + 1; return Math.floor(Math.random() * range) + x; } //get next image function getNextImage(){ if(random_display){ imageNum = randNum(0, totalImages-1); } else{ imageNum = (imageNum+1) % totalImages; } //return the value now. var new_image = get_ImageItemLocation(imageArray[imageNum]); return (new_image); } function getPrevImage() { imageNum = (imageNum-1) % totalImages; var new_image = get_ImageItemLocation(imageArray[imageNum]); return (new_image); } function prevImage(place) { var new_image = getPrevImage(); document[place].src = new_image; } //function to switch images function switchImage(place){ var new_image = getNextImage(); document[place].src = new_image; var recur_call = "switchImage('"+place+"')"; timerID = setTimeout(recur_call, interval); } Here is the html with buttons to control the slideshow Code: <div id = "articles"> <div class= "new_article"> <img name="slideImg" src="image/slideshow1/01.jpg" style = "width:400px; height:200px;" border=0> <a href="#" onClick="switchImage('slideImg')">play slide show</a> <a href="#" onClick="clearTimeout(timerID)"> pause</a> <a href="#" onClick="prevImage('slideImg'); clearTimeout(timerID)"> previous</a> <a href="#" onClick="switchImage('slideImg'); clearTimeout(timerID)">next </a> </div> </div> This is probably a really simple question. Is it possible to initialize x amount of variables. Like someone enters 10 into an input box and it makes 10 variables called variable1, variable2, variable3, etc. How would you name them? variable + num = 0; ? Thanks! On my site I'm using an external (big) javascript file, in this external file there is a function with the following line in it: Code: function showslide(){ return(currentSlide); } In my main html file the external javascript file is loaded within the head section. This external file does a lot of other stuff besides returning a number. Now here is my problem.. Somewhere in my html file I need to call the showslide function. I tried doing that with this: Code: <script language ="Javascript" src="upload/3weg_slider.js"> document.write(showslide()); </script> But it doesn't return anything, when I place an alert line within the function it doesn't show up either. What am I doing wrong here? I have HTML page which use js function and worked fine b4 I pull out the javascripts function from that page. Then later, I created .js file for the js functions and test again, the function doesn't work anymore. In .js file, <script type="text/javascript"> var upload_number = 2; function addFileInput() { var d = document.createElement("div"); var file = document.createElement("input"); file.setAttribute("type", "file"); //file.setAttribute("name", "attachment"+upload_number); file.setAttribute("name", "ufile[]"); file.setAttribute("size", "40"); d.appendChild(file); document.getElementById("moreUploads").appendChild(d); upload_number++; } </script> ************* Then in html page, I put <script language="javascript" src="jsfile/test.js"></script> in the <head> tag and call the function in <body> tag, <div id="moreUploads"></div> <div id="moreUploadsLink" style="display:none;"> <a href="javascript:addFileInput();">Upload another File</a> </div> ******************** When I click on the Upload another file link, nothing appear. It worked b4 I create separate js file. Pls help me solving this problem and gimme suggestions. Thanks in advance! PY I need help turning the following inline code: Code: <a href="http://www.bing.com/" name="bing" onclick="return !window.open(this.href)">Bing</a><br> <a href="http://www.lycos.com/" name="lycos" onclick="return !window.open(this.href)">Lycos</a><br> <a href="http://www.dogpile.com/" name="dogpile" onclick="return !window.open(this.href)">DogPile</a><br> into an external javascript function that will do the same thing (open all links in a new window individually if javascript is enabled, without destroying links in html for if javascript is not enabled). Any smarties out there have any good suggestions? <body> <script type="text/javascript" src="/khk.php?klub=khk&user=w"></script> This script works fine, but I get a error: line: 2 character: 1 error: character illegal code: 0 url .... Hi all me again I have this bit of code: Code: <script type="text/javascript"> var testvar = "<? print $cards; ?>"; var name = "<? print $name; ?>"; //Create JavaScript array var testarray = new Array(); //Fill JavaScript array from the converted string testarray = testvar.split(":#:"); var imagesleft = 10; var numclicks = 0; var score = 0; function clickCard (what, where) { var count=0; for(var x = 0; x < testarray.length; x++) { if(what == testarray[x]) { count++; } } if(count==1) { alert("unique"); document.images[where].src = "./images/blank.png"; imagesleft--; score = score+20; clicks.innerHTML = "Unique Images to find = " + imagesleft; if(imagesleft==0) { score = score - numclicks; var r=confirm("Do you want to enter your score in the highscore table?"); if (r==true) { document.getElementById('score').value = score; document.forms["highscore"].submit(); } else { var t=confirm("Do you want to play again?"); if (t==true) { document.location.reload(); } else { window.close(); } } } } else { alert("Not unique"); } numclicks++; pairs.innerHTML = "Number of Clicks = " + numclicks; } </script> which works a treat but when it is put into a external js file all I get is the alert Not unique and nothing else! any ideas why? Dear All, I got a problem with order of loading external javascript file. I have 2 external javascript files: jsFile1. js and jsFile2.js. And file jsFile2 use an object in file jsFile1.js. I copied that into the head section and it worked. I'd like to know why it doesn't work in the javascript.js file. Thank you very much. hello, I have designed a web site. but I want to protect my external javascript(and css also) from outside people, who steal my javascript. can anyone tell me a method to hide external javascript(and css) from these knaves...!!! thank you First, this is my first time coding anything seriously. I've only dabbled here and there, but no more. Any and all tips are appreciated. I have a program that's designed to calculate total enemy health. Its does this by taking user input on the level and enemy name. The enemy level input determines the base health stat. The enemy name determines the percent multiplier. This all runs on an onClick() event. I originally had this all in my <head> in my html code. It ended up being more code than I expected. So i made it an external javascript file. I did remove the <script></script> tags, I believe I have the file properly linked using the src attribute. I'm at my wits end. This is my second day of trying. So here is the javascript code. Code: // JavaScript Document var series; var index; var indexValue; var base; var distance; var sequence; var enemyLv; var enemyPct; var enemyHp; var vOneFive; var wrongAlert; var enemyList; var enemyName; var enemyInput; var enemyLevel; var a = enemyLEVEL(); var b = enemyPCT(); var totalHp = a * b; //calculates enemyHp and enemyPct function calc(enemyHp, enemyPct) { a = enemyLEVEL(); b = enemyPCT(); totalHp = a * b; if(a && b !== -1){ document.getElementById('enemyTotalHp').innerHTML = totalHp; } else{ alert(wrong); } } //determines base stat for enemyHp function enemyLEVEL(enemyHp){ enemyLv = document.getElementById('enemyLevel').value; Thanks!!! <form name="login" autocomplete="off"> <p>User Name : <input type="text" name="username"></p> <p>Password : <input type="password" name="password"></p> <input type="button" value="Login" name="Submit" align="right" onClick="Login()";> </p> </form> </div> <script language="JavaScript"> function Login(){ var done=0; var username=document.login.username.value; username=username.toLowerCase(); var password=document.login.password.value; password=password.toLowerCase(); if (username=="bruceclements" && password=="berlin") { window.location="users/bruceclements.html"; done=1; } if (username=="free" && password=="java") { window.location="page2.html"; done=1; } if (username=="member3" && password=="password3") { window.location="page3.html"; done=1; } if (done==0) { alert("Invalid login!"); } } </script> I have an external Javascript file that only works when I put: Code: <script type="text/javascript" src="external.js"></script> at the end of the HTML page. Does anyone know why it won't work in the head of the page? Thanks |
