JavaScript - Placing <script> Tags In Correct Place Causes The Page To Fail
I have placed the <script></script> in the <head></head> tags and the page will not work. But placing the <script> below the element that the JS works with allows the page to work but thought the correct method to use was place all JS functions inside the <head> tags?
here is a link to the folder I am testing this out on. http://www.realistichostings.com/test_booking/ I have named the two files accordingly, test_booking_page-script is in head tags.php test_booking_page-script is outside head tags.php can anyone tell me why the code works outside the head tag but not when i is inside the head tag ? Similar Tutorialsi am dynamically making pdf files, works great using abcpdf etc etc. the only problem that i am having is with the page breaking. i want to create a function that runs onload and can read the position of elements and add breaks before the element if it is cut off. each block ("from the west", "holiday inn express") is a span with the class name of "entry" i want to loop through those, get their height, add them together and if that span falls in the range of the page size (792px) add a page break before it. the difficult part will be when we get to pages 2 and above does that make sense? im throwing around some ideas now in a js file, if you have any please post them thanks I've wrote a jQuery script to fade some lines of text on the page. I've tested it and know it works. I've tried adding it to my WordPress homepage and testing it locally, but it doesn't work, I don't really know what I'm doing, and I can't make heads nor tails of the codex. I'd appreciate either a simple explanation or a real-world example Here are the steps I've taken: 1. added the line <?php wp_enqueue_script("jquery"); ?> just above the wp_head line. 2. added the script just below the wp_head line 3. Used the "No Conflict" syntax of jQuery(document).ready(function() {. Here's what the header looks like where I put my script Code: <?php /** * Template Name: Home Page * * @package WPFramework * @subpackage Template */ ?> <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" <?php language_attributes(); ?>> <head> <meta charset="<?php bloginfo('charset'); ?>" /> <?php if (is_search()) { ?> <meta name="robots" content="noindex, nofollow" /> <?php } ?> <title> <?php if (function_exists('is_tag') && is_tag()) { single_tag_title("Tag Archive for ""); echo '" - '; } elseif (is_archive()) { wp_title(''); echo ' Archive - '; } elseif (is_search()) { echo 'Search for "'.wp_specialchars($s).'" - '; } elseif (!(is_404()) && (is_single()) || (is_page())) { wp_title(''); echo ' - '; } elseif (is_404()) { echo 'Not Found - '; } if (is_home()) { bloginfo('name'); echo ' - '; bloginfo('description'); } else { bloginfo('name'); } if ($paged>1) { echo ' - page '. $paged; } ?> </title> <link rel="shortcut icon" href="/favicon.ico"> <link rel="stylesheet" href="<?php bloginfo('stylesheet_url'); ?>"> <link rel="pingback" href="<?php bloginfo('pingback_url'); ?>"> <?php if ( is_singular() ) wp_enqueue_script('comment-reply'); ?> <?php wp_enqueue_script("jquery"); ?> <?php wp_head(); ?> <script type="text/javascript"> jQuery(document).ready(function() { //set all the divs opacity to 0 $("#rotator div").css({opacity: 0}); //show the current div $("#rotator div.current").css({opacity: 1}); //run the rotateImages function every 3 seconds setInterval("rotateBanners()", 4000); }); function rotateBanners () { var curBanner = $("#rotator div.current"); //get whatever div is after the current banner var nxtBanner = curBanner.next(); //if there's nothing left, go back to top of loop if (nxtBanner.length == 0) nxtBanner = $("#rotator div:first"); curBanner.removeClass('current').addClass("previous").animate({ opacity: 0.0 }, 1500); nxtBanner.css({ opacity: 0.0 }).addClass("current").animate({ opacity: 1.0 }, 1500, function() { curBanner.removeClass("previous"); }); }; </script> </head> Hi All, I am very new at this and do not have any script editing skills. I have been building my website with webeasy 8 and downloaded one of the free scripts from JavaScriptKit website and I edited the parts that i think it were suppose to be edited. However, my problem is that the script is not working and i don't know where to begin ..... When i preview the site it shows broken link icon where the picture suppose to load. The pictures URL is correct, thus my dilemma! I don't know what else to do.... Hello everyone, I have done a lot of research looking for answers on this one but unable to find anything that helps. I have a couple of questions on a page and each are contained in there own form. The questions themselves use checkboxes. I would like the page to not refresh and jump to the top of the page after they submit there answer. So on questions that use radio buttons I have been using Code: <input type="submit" value="Submit" onclick="get_radio_value(); return false;" /> for the submit buttion and that works perfect. I try and use it on questions that use checkboxes and it doesnt work so as a work around I am using the form's action attribute to set it to a link on the page. Here is my form code: Code: <form name="question2" action="#q2">2. <strong>Multiple choice:</strong><a name="q2"></a> Which patient or patients could be transferred to another hospital under the EMTALA Act?<br /> <input type="checkbox" value="a" name="aquestion" />Smith, Bill<br /><input type="checkbox" value="b" name="bquestion" />Wells, Patricia<br /> <input type="checkbox" value="c" name="cquestion" />Hamilton, Larry<br /> <input type="checkbox" value="d" name="dquestion" />Rodriquez, Brad<br /><input type="checkbox" value="e" name="equestion" />Baker, Madison<br /><input type="checkbox" value="f" name="fquestion" />Kahn, Brent<br /> <input type="checkbox" value="g" name="gquestion" />Cahill, Mark<br /><input type="submit" onclick="get_radio2_value()" value="Submit" /></form> <script type="text/javascript" src="first_triage_java_clinical.js"> </script> and here is the javascript code if it helps: Code: function get_radio2_value() { var w = 400; var h = 400; var wleft = (screen.width/2)-(w/2); var wtop = (screen.height/2)-(h/2); var wrong = "<html><head><style type='text/css'> * {margin: 0; padding:0; border:0;}</style>\ <title>Incorrect, try again!</title></head><body><bgsound src='Plbt.wav'>\ <a href='javascript:window.close()'><img src='wrong.jpg'></a></body></html>"; var right = "<html><head><style type='text/css'> * {margin: 0; padding:0; border:0;}</style>\ <title>You are Correct!</title></head><body>\ <a href='javascript:window.close()'><img src='right.jpg'></a></body></html>"; var correct = "false"; if (document.question2.cquestion.checked) { if(document.question2.dquestion.checked) { if(document.question2.equestion.checked) { if(document.question2.fquestion.checked) { if(document.question2.gquestion.checked) { var correct = "true"; } } } } } if (document.question2.aquestion.checked) { var correct = "false"; } if (document.question2.bquestion.checked) { var correct = "false"; } if (correct != "true") { var popup = window.open('','','resizeable=no,scrollbars=no,width=221,height=112, top='+ wtop +', left='+ wleft); popup.document.write(wrong); pops.document.close(); } else { var popup = window.open('','','resizeable=no,scrollbars=no,width=221,height=112, top='+ wtop +', left='+ wleft); popup.document.write(right); pops.document.close(); } } Hi, I have a regular expression which removes anything between <script> and </script> tags. The problem comes when there is more than one on a page, eg. Code: <script>lose this</script> content I want to keep <script>lose this</script> Everything in that string is removed... how can I limit it to complete tags only? I did a search but could only find ones that either remove tags only, or have the same problem as mine. Cheers, Gus On my site's shopping cart, when clicking the "buy" button, it merely animates a little item that shows that something is now in the customer's cart. I'd like it to do this, and then redirect to "/cart", cutting down the work of what the user actually has to do (we only have one product). Here's what I'm working with: <!-- START ADD TO CART --> {% if featuredproduct.available %} <span class="featured-product price"><span>{{ featuredproduct.price | money }}</span>{% if featuredproduct.compare_at_price_max > featuredproduct.price %} <del>{{ featuredproduct.compare_at_price | money }}</del>{% endif %}</span> <input type="submit" value="{{ settings.text_addtocart }}" class=" add-to-cart addtocart button primary"> {% else %} <h3 class="featured-product price sold-out"><span>Sold Out</span></h3> <input type="submit" value="{{ settings.text_addtocart }}" class="featured-product add-to-cart button primary disabled" disabled="disabled "> {% endif %} <!-- END ADD TO CART --> Adding an "onclick="location.href='/cart';" after the input classes does not fire the actual act of adding the item to the cart, so it shows an empty cart on the redirect. JS newbie, sorry for the rough explanation. Any help greatly appreciated! Hi, I am using this script which is nearly working correctly, but not quite! When a user selects some text from the web-page and copies it, the script is supposed to pick up the current web-page url and create a resource box or credit line that is added to the selected text when the data is pasted. You will see that the meta keywords are used (randomly) as the anchor text and this should be wrapped with the href= tags in order to create a link. Thats the bit that is not workink, but I can not see why. Here is the complete script. Code: function init(){ // Options: var useMetaKeyword = true; // Otherwise, page title var minLength = 40; // Min selection chars var useMetaAuthor = true; // Otherwise use domain var addLinks = true; // Otherwise, just cite at end var skip = new Array("home","link","click here"); // Don't link these (lowercase!) function D(b,a,c){ if(b.addEventListener)b.addEventListener(a,c,false); else b.attachEvent&&b.attachEvent("on"+a,c)} function o(b,a){ if(typeof b=="undefined"||b==null||!RegExp)return false; a=new RegExp("(^|\\s)"+a+"(\\s|$)"); if(typeof b=="string")return a.test(b); else if(typeof b=="object"&&b.className)return a.test(b.className);return false} function E(b,a){ var c=false,j; for(j=b.parentNode;j!=undefined;){ if(b.parentNode==e.body)break; else if(b.parentNode==a){c=true;break}j=j.parentNode}return c} function F(b){ return b.replace(/^\s*/,"") } function G(b){ return b.replace(/\s*$/,"") } function H(b){ return G(F(b)) } var I=new Array("home","link","click here"), e=document, x=window, t=e.getElementsByTagName("body")[0], p=e.getElementsByName("author"), i=e.getElementsByName("keywords"), q=x.location.toString(), u=e.title.toString(), d;if(!Array.indexOf)Array.prototype.indexOf=function(b,a){ var c=-1; for(a=a|0;a<this.length||a==-1;a++) if(this[a]==b)c=a;return c}; if(i.length>0&&useMetaKeyword){ i=e.getElementsByName("keywords")[0].getAttribute("content").split(","); u=Math.floor(Math.random()*i.length); i=i[u].replace(/^\s*|\s*$/,"")} else i=u; p=(p.length>0&&useMetaAuthor)?p[0].getAttribute("content"):e.domain; var y="<p id='credit'><br/>Read more about <a href='"+q+"'>"+i+"</a> by <a href='http://"+e.domain+"' />"+p+"</a></p>"; if(/MSIE/g.test(navigator.userAgent))var v="msie"; else if(/Safari/g.test(navigator.userAgent))v="safChrome"; q=e.createElement("span");q.setAttribute("id","sasText"); t.appendChild(q); d=e.getElementById("sasText"); posType=document.all&&!window.opera&&!window.XMLHttpRequest?"absolute":"fixed"; d.style.position=posType; d.style.top="0px"; d.style.left="-9999px"; D(t,"copy",function(){d.innerHTML=y; if(v=="msie"){ for(var b=e.selection.createRange(), a=b.parentElement(); a.nodeName!="BODY"&&!o(a,"lbExclude");)a=a.parentNode; if(o(a,"lbExclude"))return true; a=e.body.createTextRange(); a.moveToElementText(d); var c=b.duplicate(); c=c.htmlText; if(c.length>minLength){ d.id="tempSasText"; d.innerHTML=c+y; (c=e.getElementById("sasText"))&&c.parentNode.removeChild(c); d.id="sasText";a.select()}} else{b=x.getSelection(); for(a=b.anchorNode;a.nodeName!="BODY"&&!o(a,"lbExclude");)a=a.parentNode; if(o(a,"lbExclude"))return false; if(b==""&&v=="safChrome"){ d.innerHTML=t.innerHTML; a=document.createRange(); b.removeAllRanges(); a.selectNodeContents(d);b.addRange(a)} else if(b.toString().length>minLength){ var j=e.getElementById("credit"); a=b.getRangeAt(0); c=a.cloneContents(); d.id="tempSasText"; d.insertBefore(c,j); (c=e.getElementById("sasText"))&&c.parentNode.removeChild(c); d.id="sasText"; b.removeAllRanges(); a.selectNode(d); b.addRange(a)}} var w=[];a=d.getElementsByTagName("a");for(b=0;b<a.length;b++)w.push(a[b].href); if(addLinks){a=e.getElementsByTagName("a"); for(b=0;b<a.length;b++){var r=a[b].href; if(w.indexOf(r)==-1)if(E(a[b],d)==false){ var f=H(a[b].innerHTML).toLowerCase(); if(skip.indexOf(f)==-1) if((new RegExp(e.domain,"g")).test(r)){ var z=[]; function n(g,k,l){ for(var A=g.childNodes.length;A-- >0;){ var h=g.childNodes[A]; if(h.nodeType===1)h.tagName.toLowerCase()!=="a"&&n(h,k,l); else if(h.nodeType===3) for(var m=h.data.length;1;){ m=h.data.lastIndexOf(k,m); if(m===-1||z.indexOf(k.toLowerCase())!==-1)break; var B=/\w/; if(h.nodeValue.charAt(m-1).match(B)||h.nodeValue.charAt(m+f.length).match(B))break; l.call(window,h,m)}}} function s(g,k){g.splitText(k+f.length); var l=e.createElement("a"); l.href=r;l.appendChild(g.splitText(k)); g.parentNode.insertBefore(l,g.nextSibling); z.push(f.toLowerCase()); w.push(r)}n(d,f,s);f=f.charAt(0).toUpperCase()+f.slice(1);n(d,f,s); f=f.toUpperCase(); n(d,f,s);f=f.replace(/\w\S*/g,function(g){ return g.charAt(0).toUpperCase()+g.substr(1).toLowerCase()});n(d,f,s)}}}}})} window.onload=init; I have put the script on this page: test page To test it, just go to that page, highlight some text (at least 40 characters) copy it, and then paste it into your editor or notepad. You can see that it is picking up some info and writing the attribute line but it doesn't create the link If it helps get it working, I am happy to slim the code down by excluding some features. Code: <div id="text" style="visibility: hidden;">text</> and an empty tag at the bottom of the page. Code: <div id="empty_container"></div> Is there any way JS could grab the content inside #text and move it inside #empty_container when the page loads? Thanks. I'm looking for a simple javascript that can fill in the subject of an email message with whatever is in the title tags of the page they're on and also to include the link the the page in the body. [CODE] <a href="mailto:e@o.com?subject=&body=http://www.o.htm" title="Question"> [CODE] Thanks! You know the deal: you have something (tooltip-like) that pops up on mouseover and disappears again on mouseout. But sometimes, the mouse moves too fast (speedy Gonzalez?), and the event doesn't get trapped. So your tooltip thingy stays popped, and doesn't go away till another mouseover-mouseout happens. Any suggestions for avoiding this scenario?

I am currently skinning up a custom cpanel theme for a company I work with from time to time, kudolabs.net. They would like their Jixed Bar that is on their main web page to be on the skin, and I am attempting to put it there now. I have put the code into the html of the skin, both the call to the proper javascript files and css files, and the proper code for the bar itself. It is not working, the bar shows up as it is supposed to, but it is not aligned correctly and the bar does not float with the page. It acts exactly like the javascript is not working at all.... Unfortunately I can't just provide access to the cpanel for people to check, but you can see the source code of the main page, kudolabs.net, and if you're willing to help, I can of course give you access to a demo account (and quite possibily provide some hosting for a month or two, we're based in the netherlands and have plenty of space to share to anyone willing to help us with little problems such as this. @_@ ) Thank you for your time reading this, any help or points in the right directions would be appreciated. Unfortunately, google has failed me this time. Or, rather, I have failed google. o.o for an anchor object, it is ok to reference by index. But when referenced by name, it seems unavailable in IE8 (not sure abt other IE version). I tried FF, it works well. So is it an IE bug or something? Code: <a name="thisAnchor">HERE</a> <script language="javascript" type="text/javascript"> alert(document.anchors[0].nodeType) // no problem in IE and FF alert(document.anchors["thisAnchor"].nodeType) // does't work in IE? </script> thx in advance If you try some codes and then catch exception, it should catch the exception when there is. However, if there is a setInterval method in the try clause, then the exception cannot be caught... why??? the following works ( a usual method is invoked in the try clause): Code: <script language="javascript" type="text/javascript"> function invoke() { var i=0; return i.x.y; } try { alert(invoke()); } catch(ex){ alert(ex); } //Any Exception will be caught. </script> if the highlighted line is changed as below (using setInterval method), then it fails... Code: <script language="javascript" type="text/javascript"> function invoke() { var i=0; return i.x.y; } try { setInterval(alert('invoke())',1000); } catch(ex){ alert(ex); } //The Exception will NOT be caught. </script> any idea? thx in advance EDIT: Ive actually managed to sort this out. The problem was as simple as the onload in the body tag was overriding the onload script in the header. Combining the two solved the problem. Ive recently been appointed to do some work on my employers website. For now, to hold us over until we can manage a complete re-write, I have been asked to just do a little update to the look and feel. One of the things I have done is use the niftycorners code for rounded divs. I have had no trouble implementing this code over all the site pages, until I got to one page. Our product pages. Ive never seen a code placed directly within the body tag, but this is what has been done here. <BODY onload="pricing_init(); attribute_changed();"> This code loads the dynamic pricing feature. Unfortunately, it also causes the nifty corners code I have placed between the head tags to fail. I dont know if its just the odd placement of the code or the code itself as I am just learning js (using the Javascript and Ajax for dummies book). Is there some way I can alter this so that both the dynamic pricing and nifty corners works? thanks in advance for any suggestions.
