JavaScript - Find In Page Searching Another Html Page?
Hi there,
Im a total newbie and learning html and javascript as I go along, so any help you can give is greatly appreciated! It is possible to perform a find in page search that looks at a specific link, opens the page in a new window and finds the text within that document?? Basically I regularly use an html page in work that has a list of people and their telephone numbers. I want to be able to type in a searchbox on my main page and it open the target page and find the name I am looking for? Is this possible or can you only Find In Page on the same page or another frame? Tearing my hair out........ Thanks Glen Similar TutorialsHello. Please excuse my ignorance but I am not too clued up on javascript. Im hoping someone may be able to help me out here. I have managed to locate a script which will find text on a page, but I have a couple of requests. Firstly the script will only search up. I would like the search box to be at the top of a page but the only way to get it to work correctly is placing it at the bottom of the page. Secondly would some kind soul advise me how to place the script in an external file and then link to it. Thanks in advance. Hi All, Just a quick question! Is it possible to have a text box input searching for the entered text on another webpage in the same way Find In Page would do? I have a webpage that I want users to input an item, and that this will open the targeted webpage and bring you to (and highlight) the matched item(s) like find in page does. Is this possible or is the easiest way to just make users open the link to the target page and just complete the find in page search there? Thanks Glen Hi all. Is it possible to command a find in page search from another html? I have a 'main page' and 'directory page' The directory page has find in page command on it, so if users can open the directory link from the main page and then search that page using the find in page search box. To speed this up, is there any way I can have a text box on my main page that when I enter text and submit that it carries across the text entry to the find in page box on the directory page and starts this search for me? I need to complete this using javascript so if this is possible I would great appreciate any help. Thanks I need some help finding a "find on page" script that will display the results in the middle of the page for IE. I have tried several different ones to no avail. The ones that work in all the browsers display the result in IE at the very bottom of the page. I am not very familiar with programing in Java and I am unable to modify any for my needs. The one I found that did work in IE didn't work in any other browsers. Please help, Thx
I currently have basic text fields for the dates to be entered in to. Now wish to allow users to click calender thumbnail for a pop up calender to select the date, but the script i got only allows one popup. Does anyone know of a script that i can reuse more than once in the same page? Hi. I am very new to javascript, so I might not even be wording my question right, but I am going to try and be as concise and specific as possible. I am using jquery on my website- the galleria plugin- to make a slideshow. you can see the completed show he http://www.pauljameswilliams.com/demo2a.html This slideshow will be one of three on my website. Each slide show will opperate the same exact way.I have built in tabbed navifation, and the slideshows will all be accessable under the "portfolio" tab by clicking on their corresponding links. check out the site he http://www.pauljameswilliams.com/portfolio.html As it is I have one slideshow up, although not yet connected to the corresponding link, but the images won't load. My guess is that because the div tag is hidden that the contents don't load propperly and I need the contents to load when the corresponding div tag that it is contained in becomes visible but I don't know how to do that. this is the javascript that I have written to show/hide the <div> tags where the content will live. Three slide shows will live in content_2 and show/hide when the corresponding button is pressed. Code: function tabSwitch(new_tab, new_content) { document.getElementById('content_1').style.display = 'none'; document.getElementById('content_2').style.display = 'none'; document.getElementById('content_3').style.display = 'none'; document.getElementById('content_4').style.display = 'none'; document.getElementById(new_content).style.display = 'block'; document.getElementById('btn_1').className = ''; document.getElementById('btn_2').className = ''; document.getElementById('btn_3').className = ''; document.getElementById('btn_4').className = ''; document.getElementById(new_tab).className = 'current'; } thank you- I am really stuck. i promise, i am actually learning javascript, I'm not just trying to get other people to do my work for me. I'm new to all this, I'm having some trouble integrating a few bits of text from a XML feed into HTML. The feed is: http://cloud.tfl.gov.uk/TrackerNet/LineStatus Any ideas why it isn't working? Many thanks . Code: <html> <body> <script type="text/javascript"> if (window.XMLHttpRequest) {// code for IE7+, Firefox, Chrome, Opera, Safari xmlhttp=new XMLHttpRequest(); } else {// code for IE6, IE5 xmlhttp=new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP"); } xmlhttp.open("GET","http://cloud.tfl.gov.uk/TrackerNet/LineStatus/",false); xmlhttp.send(); xmlDoc=xmlhttp.responseXML; document.write("<table border='1'>"); { document.write("<tr><td>"); document.write(xmlDoc.getElementsByTagName("Line").item(0).getAttribute("Name"); document.write("</td><td>"); document.write(xmlDoc.getElementsByTagName("LineStatus").item(0).getAttribute("StatusDetails"); document.write("</td></tr>"); document.write(xmlDoc.getElementsByTagName("Status").item(0).getAttribute("Description"); document.write("</td></tr>"); } document.write("</table>"); </script> </body> </html> Dear All: My apologies - this is probably something that comes up time and time again. However, I was wondering - I realize there does not seem to be a "standard" way to do this (without additional libraries), but is there any "hacky" method that can be used to get XPath support in IE? What I mean is for parsing the loaded HTML document. Thank you Misha I have a very simple problem, but I can't find the answer. How do I run an html page?? <script type="text/javascript" > var curdate=new Date(); if (curdate.getMonth()+1 ==1){ document.write("<img src='Images/Menu Pictures/05/homepage.gif'>"); the above line works document.write("<href src='menu05.htm'>"); The above line doesn't work } else if (curdate.getMonth()+1==2){ hi, i'm new to this forum and want to say googdbye to everyone, it's long time i read you, now i have to ask a question: i'm creating a javascript program to obtain datas from an external webpage. I read the page with: Code: <body> <input type='button' value='Load' onclick="doLoad()" /> <script type='text/javascript'> /* THIS IS THE FILE TO READ */ var fileToRead="test.html"; /* THIS FUNCTION IS TO READ THE HTML FILE */ function IO(U) {//LA MOD String Version. A tiny ajax library. by, DanDavis var X = !window.XMLHttpRequest ? new ActiveXObject('Microsoft.XMLHTTP') : new XMLHttpRequest(); X.open('GET', U, false ); X.setRequestHeader('Content-Type', 'text/html') X.send(''); return X.responseText;} function doLoad(){ /* HERE IS THE CALL TO READ THE FILE */ var orari=(IO(fileToRead)); /* HERE IS THE PROBLEM */ var arrTR=orari.getElementsByTagName('tr'); /* END OF PROBLEM */ var arrTD_3nd_line=arrTR[1].getElementsByTagName('td'); var arr_p_1c_3l=arrTD_3nd_line[0].getElementsByTagName('p'); alert(arr_p_1c_3l[0].nodeValue); } </script> </body> line 21 is the problem, because Code: var arrTR=document.getElementsByTagName('tr'); tries to read from the html page where is the jscript, i thought putting var arrTR=orari.getElementsByTagName('tr'); where "orari" is the var in which it's the external webpage, so i'll get an array of every tr of the external webpage, BUT if i put document.blabla i get error beacuse arrTR is null and if i put orari.blabla i get error becaues getelementsbytagname is not a function No, i can't put the js in the webpage. Is there a solution? if not how to parse charbychar the var containing the external document? thanks a lot Hello, I have an issue. I can't seem to extract XML from an somepage.xml document and display it on a regular webpage. I have no way of reading its contents. I read up on some microsoft way of doing it, but not sure that is gonna fly (need it for most browsers), so can this be done easily with json/ajax? I have an xml file in normal format: www.somedomain.com/somepath/somexml.xml <products> <items> <item>blah</item> <item>blah2</item> <item>blah3</item> <item>blah4</item> <item>blah5</item> </items> </products> So, how do I get that data to manipulate and display in my html? I don't even know where to begin with json/ajx etc.. and how to call the xml file etc.. Hi I got this code for my coutdown: Code: <script language="JavaScript"> TargetDate = "12/31/2020 5:00 AM"; BackColor = "palegreen"; ForeColor = "navy"; CountActive = true; CountStepper = -1; LeadingZero = true; DisplayFormat = "%%D%% Days, %%H%% Hours, %%M%% Minutes, %%S%% Seconds."; FinishMessage = "It is finally here!"; </script> <script language="JavaScript" src="http://scripts.hashemian.com/js/countdown.js"></script> But i don't know how to place it where I want on my html page Normaly I use the CSS value position:absolute I have to call the script below from my html page. How would I do that? Do I need to modify the script at all? Put in a function that returns the random title to the html page? New to javascript any help woudl be apreciated. html page that calls the script Code: <html> <head> <script type='text/javascript' src='titles.js'></script> <script> document.title = rantitle[ranNumber]; </script> </head> titles.js Code: <script type="text/javascript" language="javascript"> <!--// if (parseInt(navigator.appVersion) >= 4) { var num = 3; var rantitle = new Array(num+1); rantitle[1] = "Random Title1"; rantitle[2] = "Random Title1"; rantitle[3] = "Random Title1"; ranNumber = parseInt(num * Math.random() + 1); document.title = rantitle[ranNumber]; } //--> </script> Hello All, I seem to be stuck on a page for my site: The idea was to have a page with a google map and a java-powered custom twitter feed on the page. However, when I got the map embedded, it seems to interfere with the spry navigation menu, and the twitter feed is not working either. I've tried combining commands and tying each script to an event, but I just don't understand enough to get them all to work. I'm a comic artist by trade, so I'm a little new to coding. Any help would be greatly appreciated! you can find the page here./ Thanks in advance for any help! Hi All, I have an issue that is driving me batty. I have two js files called in my <head> section but only the first one listed runs. I know this is supposed to work but it doesn't. What am I missing? I've searched here on the forum and on Google with no real results. I have read the info on javascriptkit but do not believe it applies. One script contains functions that run "onChange" of certain fields while the other runs "onSubmit" of the form. The "onChange" events from the first script run fine. The second one does not run at all. I get no errors. I can find no var conflicts. I even added an alert at the top of the main function in the second script to verify it was loading and the alert never pops up. Head Script Tags: (The first script called works fine.) I have been designing a schedule website which will be displayed on several computers throughout the building, I would like to be able to edit the JS during the day but I do not want to be going all through the building refreshing every computer to make sure it has the latest JS version. I also do not want use the meta HTML tag to refresh because that is too noticeable with the images reloading. Basically I would like to only refresh the JS file. I found this link, but it has a button which defeats the purpose. Any way of doing this without the button? FYI, I have the javascript setTimeout("driver()",1000); already so that the clock stays up to date. Not sure if that will make things easier or more complicated... Grrrrrrr. Here goes again, simplified this time. I've got a sticky footer at the bottom of the page and a spry collapsible panel which expands to reveal content on mouse over. The problem I'm facing is that the page doesn't scroll down with it, only the scroll bar gets larger to accommodate for a manual scroll down. This is kind of useless because the user might not even realise that there's extra content there in the first place if it's not automatic. My question is, what's the best javascript code to use to automatically scroll the page down when the spry tab is opened and where would I insert it? I've tried all morning with no success so far! Thanks, Nick, I'm copy pasting this post this time round, I don't trust this website now Hello. My goal is to load the JS for a specific element before displaying that element. I integrated a third part script, and it works well. I set the timer he The JS is in my heading as <script type="text/javascript" src="countdownpro.js"></script> About mid-body I have: <span id="countdown1">2010-07-20 00:00:00 GMT+00:00</span> which allows for the setting of a target date to countdown to. When the page first loads it shows the above long format target time, until the js/meta tags kick in to modify it to just show the actual countdown as 00:00:00. I have attached countdownpro.js to this post. I tried shifting the function CD_Init() to the top of the script, and also appended it inline with the .html. I tried setting the big external script to "defer", but neither arrangement worked. I also tried placing the src file right at the top. I appreciate your help. I want to implement a javascript function where a submit button will be submitted from the parent page each time I close a child page. Please let me know what I did wrong in my code and please elaborate your answer so that I could understand it better. Thank you so much for your help. I have the following jscript code but it is now working. Code: window.onunload = submitParent; function submitParent() { var doc = window.opener.document, theForm = doc.getElementById("finalForm"); theField = doc.getElementById("finalSelected"); theForm.submit(); theField.trigger('click'); } My form from the parent page is as follow. I want my jscript to just click on the submit button once. Code: <form id = "finalForm "name= "finalForm" method="POST" action=""> <input type="Submit" id = "finalSelected" name="finalSelected"/> |
