JavaScript - Trouble With A Simple If Else And While Statement
Hi,
thanks for taking the time to read this. I believe it is a very simple problem however I cannot get it to work, when I run it I enter info into the prompt and it seems to get stuck in a loop. Basically A prompt asks for user to enter a code (has to be either R or r or C or c) though when I enter one of those in it won't work. Code: <html> <head> <title>Water Usage</title> <script type="text/javascript"> // Setting our variables based on user input var code; var kl_c; var kl_r; var kl_c_cost; var kl_r_cost; code = prompt("Please Enter Code"); while ((code != "R") || (code != "C") || (code != "r") || (code != "c") || (code =="")) { alert("Please Enter C for Commercial or R for Residential"); window.location.reload(true); } if ((code == "C") || (code == "c")) { kl_c = prompt("Please Enter The Kilolitres Of Water Consumed"); kl_c_cost = (kl_c * 0.2) alert("The Total amount of water used for this Residential property is " + kl_c + " Kilolitres and the total cost is $" + kl_c_cost); } else if ((code == "R") || (code == "r")) { kl_r = prompt("Please Enter The Kilolitres Of Water Consumed"); kl_r_cost = (kl_r * 0.6) alert("The Total amount of water used for this Residential property is " + kl_r + " Kilolitres and the total cost is $" + kl_r_cost); } </script> </head> <body> </body> </html> Similar TutorialsHello I need for a field to either calculate dollar amt. based on a percentage entered or allow the user to enter a dollar amount. I tried the following if statement but apparently this is wrong. How should this be done...thanks in advance for your assistance. Code: if(REO_sale_Percentage != 0) $('#REO_sale_dollars').val(getFldValue(REO_sale_percentage/100*price)); else $('#REO_sale_dollars').val(getFldValue(REO_sale_dollars)); Full script is below Code: <script type="text/javascript" src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.7.1/jquery.min.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function() { $(".TextBox").hover(function(){ $(this).toggleClass('TextBoxSelected'); },function(){ $(this).toggleClass('TextBoxSelected'); }).change(function(){ calculate(); }); }); function getFldValue(fldValue) { return isNaN(fldValue) ? 0 : parseFloat(fldValue); } function calculate() { var property_SPrice = getFldValue($('#property_SPrice').val()); var price = getFldValue($('#price').val()); var REO_sale_percentage = getFldValue($('#REO_sale_percentage').val()); var REO_sale_dollars = getFldValue($('#REO_sale_dollars').val()); var REO_sale_bonus_dollars = getFldValue($('#REO_sale_bonus_dollars').val()); var REO_sale_fixed_dollars = getFldValue($('#REO_sale_fixed_dollars').val()); var REO_sale_total_dollars = getFldValue($('#REO_sale_total_dollars').val()); var REO_list_percentage = getFldValue($('#REO_list_percentage').val()); var REO_list_dollars = getFldValue($('#REO_list_dollars').val()); var REO_list_bonus_dollars = getFldValue($('#REO_list_bonus_dollars').val()); var REO_list_fixed_dollars = getFldValue($('#REO_list_fixed_dollars').val()); var REO_list_total_dollars = getFldValue($('#REO_list_total_dollars').val()); var gr_comm_percentage = getFldValue($('#gr_comm_percentage').val()); var gr_comm_dollars = getFldValue($('#gr_comm_dollars').val()); var gr_bonus_dollars = getFldValue($('#gr_bonus_dollars').val()); var gr_fixed_dollars = getFldValue($('#gr_fixed_dollars').val()); var gr_total_dollars = getFldValue($('#gr_total_dollars').val()); var OB_percentage = getFldValue($('#OB_percentage').val()); var OB_dollars = getFldValue($('#OB_dollars').val()); var OB_fixed_dollars = getFldValue($('#OB_fixed_dollars').val()); var OB_bonus_dollars = getFldValue($('#OB_bonus_dollars').val()); var OB_total_dollars = getFldValue($('#OB_total_dollars').val()); $('#price').val(property_SPrice + 0); $('#gr_comm_percentage').val(REO_list_percentage + REO_sale_percentage + OB_percentage); $('#gr_comm_dollars').val(getFldValue(REO_list_dollars + REO_sale_dollars + OB_dollars)); $('#REO_list_dollars').val(getFldValue(REO_list_percentage/100*price)); if(REO_sale_Percentage != 0) $('#REO_sale_dollars').val(getFldValue(REO_sale_percentage/100*price)); else $('#REO_sale_dollars').val(getFldValue(REO_sale_dollars)); $('#gr_fixed_dollars').val(getFldValue(REO_list_fixed_dollars + REO_sale_fixed_dollars + OB_fixed_dollars)); $('#gr_bonus_dollars').val(getFldValue(REO_list_bonus_dollars + REO_sale_bonus_dollars + OB_bonus_dollars)); $('#gr_total_dollars').val(getFldValue(REO_sale_total_dollars + REO_list_total_dollars + OB_total_dollars)); $('#REO_sale_total_dollars').val(getFldValue(REO_sale_dollars + REO_sale_fixed_dollars + REO_sale_bonus_dollars)); $('#REO_list_total_dollars').val(getFldValue(REO_list_dollars + REO_list_fixed_dollars + REO_list_bonus_dollars)); $('#OB_dollars').val(getFldValue(OB_percentage/100*price)); $('#OB_total_dollars').val(getFldValue(OB_dollars +OB_fixed_dollars + OB_bonus_dollars)); } </script> Can some please help me. I'm really new at this and is having trouble with this simple example Code: <html> <head> <script type="text/javascript"> //Below i was trying to set up a var pam that includes some text //and the value of form field name pamcheck and then display that result of pam on the screen //using a check box with a value of 'pale ale malt' hoping that when the ckeck box is checked //and then user clicks submit the result would be displayed on the screen as // 'Your selected malt is Pale ale malt' function pamff1() { pam = ("<p>Your selected malt is <p>" + pamcheck); document.write(pam); } </script> </head> <body> <form onsubmit="pamff1();"> <input type="checkbox" name="pamcheck" value="Pale ale malt" > <input type="submit" value="Submit"> </form> </body> </html> Why won't this work? Code: if(creditsBanner<.1){ document.convertform.creditsbanner.value = 0.1; creditsBanner = 0.1; } This code checks to see if the number typed in the text field is less than .1 I tested this by saying If less than 1, and it works fine which means the problem is with the decimal. How am I supposed to format this to work correctly? Hi everyone! I'm new to coding and need help on my school project. I have to animate a ball and make it move up and down the page using the if statement and the or logic. I understand the concepts of the if statement but when it comes to actually writing it in code, I fail miserably at it. Heres the code... Code: <html> <body> <center><button type="button"onClick="first()">Click to move ball down!</button> <button type="button"onclick="second()">Click to return ball to top!</button></center> <IMG ID="ball"STYLE="position:absolute;left:50;top:50;width:100;height:100;"SRC="ball.jpg"> <script language="JavaScript"> var myElement=document.getElementById("ball"); var loc= 50; function first() { loc +=50; myElement.style.top=loc; } setInterval("first()",50); function move() { if(loc>500 || loc<0) { loc=-loc; } myBall.style.top=loc; } </script> </body> </html> .. so what is happening is the ball will continuously fall without stopping. Can someone help me get the ball bounce from the edge of the screen back to the top and continue to do it. Thanks. So frustrating that lately I've been having trouble with the simplest of code, and this is about as simple as it gets. Matched it up with every similiar example I can find both in books and on the net, and it seems to be perfectly valid code, but when I run it, nothing. :S Code: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" /> <title>Untitled Document</title> <script language="javascript" type="text/javascript"> function favouriteColour() { var index = document.getElementById("select1").options[document.getElementById("select1").selectedIndex].value; document.getElementById = "Your favourite colour is " + index; } </script> </head> <body> <select id="select1"> <option></option> <option id="black" onchange="favouriteColour()">Black</option> <option id="white" onchange="favouriteColour()">White</option> <div id="favcolour"></div> <option> </select> </body> </html> Thanks in advance. Hello.. I'm in a Web Development basics class at my College. We are about two weeks in as we've blew through HTML and CSS. Anyway.. to the question. So for this class I need to make a website with terms and their definitions. The definitions have to be in Javascript and make them show up with an alert. The problem is, I can't figure out how to have unique functions that I can somewhat link with the button. Quote: <html> <head> <script type="text/javascript"> function show_alert() { alert('term definition ONE ') } </script> </head> <body> <input type="button" value="term definition ONE " onclick="show_alert()" /> <input type="button" value="term definition TWO " onclick="show_alert()" /> </body> </html> Making a new button would just link to the script that's in the <head> giving the same definition. It's almost like I need to give each function a variable that matches up with each button, since I have multiple terms.. I hope you get what I'm trying to say. I'm trying to create a type of virtual pagination that's simple, semantic, and SEO friendly. The concept is like this website: www.doner.com In the bottom right hand corner, if you select a city, different contact information appears. My theory is to assign a class name to the hyperlink, then have a DIV with a matching ID. For example... Code: <a href="#" class="michigan">Michigan</a> <a href="#" class="ohio">Ohio</a> <a href="#" class="illinois">Illinois</a> <div id="michigan"> Michigan container </div> <div id="ohio"> Ohio container </div> <div id="illinois"> Illinois container </div> The JavaScript I have written so far is... Code: var anchor = document.getElementsByTagName('a').className; // grab all hyperlinks and their classes var div = document.getElementsByTagName('div').getElementByID; // grab all divs and their IDs if (anchor = div) { // check to see if a hyperlink's class has a matching div ID div.style.display = "none"; if (anchor.onclick) { // if the hyperlink is clicked... div.style.display = "visible"; // make matching div ID visible } } Nothing works yet, and I don't know where to continue. The DIVs aren't even hidden upon loading. Can anyone help me? I'm trying to make an xhtml form that validates itself through a javascript function. I have the form up but for some reason I can't get it to validate. I'm not even sure if I linked things correctly. Here's what I have: the xhtml file <?xml version = ″1.0″ encoding = ″utf-8″ ?> <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC ″-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN″ http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd> <html xmlns = "http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <script src="gas24.js" type="text/javascript"></script> <h2> Registration Form </h2> <title> Javascript Form Validation Homework </title> </head> <body> <table border=""> <form name="validation_form" method="post" onsubmit="return validate()"> <tr> <td> <t>Name: <input type="text" name="YourName" size="10" maxlength="10"/> </td> </tr> </br> <tr> <td> E-mail Address: <input type="text" name="YourEmail" size="10" maxlength="24"/> </td> </tr> </br> <tr> <td> Password: <input type="password" name="YourPassword" size="10" maxlength="10"/> </td> </tr> </br> <tr> <td> Re-Type Password: <input type="password" name="passwordConfirmed" size="10" maxlength="10"/> </td> </tr> </br> <tr> <td> Your Gender: <input type="radio" name="MaleBox" Value="Male"> Male <input type="radio" name="FemaleBox" Value="Female"> Female </td> </tr> </br> <tr> <td> Comments: <input type="text" name="Comments" size="100" maxlength="500" value=""/> </td> </tr> <tr> <td> <input type="submit" value="Submit"/> </td> </tr> </form> </table> <p></p> </body> </html> The javascript file: I've tried two things. This: <SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript"> function validation() { var x=document.forms["validation_form"]["YourName"].value; if (x==null || x=="") { alert("First name must be filled out"); return false; } } And this: function validation() if ( document.validation_form.YourName.value == "" ) { alert( "Please type your name."); valid = false; } if ( document.validation_form.YourPassword.value =! "document.validation_form.Confirm.value" ) { alert ( "Please confirm your password." ); valid = false; } I would greatly appreciate it if somebody could tell me what I'm doing wrong. Hello everyone, I am using javascript and I have a radio button that the user selects and I have a function to see which button was selected, but i'm trying to use the return of that if statement in another statement. Basically another part of the function is dependent on what the user selects in the radio button. Here is what I have so far (I have some things in there that might not work because i'm trying to figure out what works): Code: <script type="text/javascript"> function getSelectedRadio() { len = document.dates.dep.length // returns the array number of the selected radio button or -1 if no button is selected if (document.dates.dep[0]) { // if the button group is an array (one button is not an array) for (var i=0; i<len; i++) { if (document.dates.dep[i].checked) { return i } } } else { if (document.dates.dep.checked) { return 0; } // if the one button is checked, return zero } // if we get to this point, no radio button is selected return -1; } function Calculate() { var i = getSelectedRadio(); if (i == -1) { alert("Please select if Marine entered Delayed Entry Program"); } else { if (document.dates.dep[i]) { return document.dates.dep[i].value; } else { return document.dates.dep.value; } } if (document.dates.yearDEAF.value < 1985 && document.dates.monthDEAF.value < 01 && document.dates.dayDEAF.value < 01 && first return from above ) { document.dates.yearDEP.value = (document.dates.yearDEAF.value); document.dates.monthDEP.value = (document.dates.monthDEAF.value); document.dates.dayDEP.value = (document.dates.dayDEAF.value); document.dates.yearPEBD.value = (document.dates.yearDEAF.value); document.dates.monthPEBD.value = (document.dates.monthDEAF.value); document.dates.dayPEBD.value = (document.dates.dayDEAF.value); } else if (document.dates.yearDEAF.value < 1985 && document.dates.monthDEAF.value < 01 && document.dates.dayDEAF.value < 01 && second return from above ) { document.dates.yearPEBD.value = (document.dates.yearAFADBD.value); document.dates.monthPEBD.value = (document.dates.monthAFADBD.value); document.dates.dayPEBD.value = (document.dates.dayAFADBD.value); document.dates.yearDEP.value = "N/A"; document.dates.monthDEP.value = "N/A"; document.dates.dayDEP.value = "N/A"; } } </script> I color coded in red the returns i'm trying to reference and where they need to be. Is this possible, and if so how can I do it? I haven't been able to find anything on the internet so far. Any help is greatly appreciated! I imagine this would be very simple for someone who knows javascript. I want to have three fields. First field is "posted speed limit", second field is "actual speed" and third field will be the output field. All the script needs to do it subtract the posted speed from the actual speed and add a ZERO to the end; which is the amount of the speeding ticket. The minimum fine is $100, however. So, 5 miles over the speed limit would be $100 (minimum value) 15 miles over the speed limit would be $150 (add a zero) 35 miles over the speed limit would be $350. etc. I know very little Javascript, if anyone could help me out with this, I'd appreciate it. Thanks, Sean I have a form that does not validate when in a modal. Here is the page: http://www.varsitytrainers.com/purchase1.html It works well. It does not work when viewed on this page: http://www.varsitytrainers.com/bosto...ltrainers.html - Then click "Apply Now" and then click "Featured Membership" then click "Submit" You will see that the validation does not take place. I have been banging my head against the desk for days now. Please help. OK i really hope someone can help me because this has put a complete halt to what I'm doing right now. i have various images in a 12x12 grid with names such as x1y1, x2y2, ect I need to check what x1y1's image SRC is. I have been trying stuff like this: var xpos = 1 var ypos = 1 var IMAGENAME = "x" + xpos + "y" + ypos blah = ('document.' + IMAGENAME + '.src') if (blah == "something.gif") { do what i want } Just doesn't work, nor has the 80 other things I've tried lol. Can anyone help me out? No matter what first name and last name I enter I get "Wrong!" I get wrong if I enter john smith or bill shaw Code: <html> <head> </head> <body> <script type="text/javascript"> var input; var first; var last; input = window.prompt("Please Enter First and Last Name (e.g. Joe Smith)"); if ((first == "John" || first == "john") && (last == "Smith"|| last == "smith")){ document.write ("Welcome John Smith"); } if ((first == "Bill" || first == "bill") && (last == "Shaw"|| last == "Shaw")){ document.write ("Welcome Bill Shaw"); } else { document.write("Wrong!"); } </script> <body> </html> Hello, I have just started studying JS and don't know a whole lot about it. One exercise I have been given is to use the while statement to ask the user to guess a number between one and ten. this is the code I have attempted so far but it does not work. Simple for any one who is good at this. Impossible to me. Any takershttp://www.codingforums.com/images/smilies/confused.gif <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" /> <title>While Test</title> <script type="text/javascript"> <!-- function whileTest(){ var number = 4; var answer = 0; while(number != answer ){ answer=prompt("Guesss a number between 1 and ten",""); } alert("4 is the correct answer") //--> </script> </head> <body onLoad="whileTest();"> </body> </html> Hi! I am a total newbie I'm afraid but I really enjoy learning javascript. Today I'm trying to write an if statement. I want the image1 on a web page to change when it's clicked to image2. Then I want the if statement to see if the source of the image is the changed image2.jpg (or still the original image1.jpg) and if it is the changed one I want another click to change it to image3. Here's my code, but the change to image 3 is not working: /* image change start */ var imgchanger = document.getElementById("changingimage"); imgchanger.onclick = function() { imgchanger.src = "image2.jpg"; }; /* image change 2 start */ if (imgchanger.src == "image2.jpg") { imgchanger.onclick = function() { imgchanger.src = "image3.jpg"; }; } Hello CF im wondering how could i use an if statement to have something pop up when visitors visit my site that allows them two choices. it would say something like this. Would you Like to always see the navigation Bar? then they have two options. Yes and No. then depending on what they choose it will either have the code use the absolute or the fixed positioning attribute for the whole code. Or is this just not possible? If you want me to explain it more just ask. Code: function showResults( results ) { if ( results.length == 0 ) { msg = "no projects found"; } else {msg = results [0]; } document.getElementById("RESULTS").innerHTML = msg; //= results.join( "<br/>" ); cannot get it to show "no projects found" for 0 results and also to show all multiple results if multiple are found. works right now for 1 result but not multiple. the =results.join( "<br/>" ); works if multiple but then it will not say no projects found for 0 results. I am relatively new to JavaScript coding, and I a having some problems with an IF statement. I want the IF statement to tell me when the number is below the minimum. Code: function main (txtpamphletMin,txtpamphletMax,optQuality, selIncrement, txtResults) { var txtpamphletMin,txtpamphletMax,optQuality, selIncrement; var amount = 100; var errorMsg = ""; var results = ""; pamphletMin = pamphletMin.value; //Make sure that the minimum number of pamphlets required is entered if (pamphletMin == "pamphletMin<100") { errorMsg = "Number of pamphlets must be above 100"; } else { pamphletMin = txtpamphletMin.value; //get the number of pamphlets from the text box errorMsg = validatepamphletMin(Minimum Pamphlets); } I know that this is no the entire statement but I am just having problems with this one. Can anyone help? can someone help me with this pls: Code: function anything() { var tegenover = document.getElementById("minlas"); var septo = document.getElementById("combo_2"); //prijs verbinder per meter var serr = document.getElementById("comba_2"); //prijs verbinder per meter var seprr = document.getElementById("combb_2"); //prijs verbinder per meter var septrr = document.getElementById("combc_2"); //prijs verbinder per meter var nocho = document.getElementById("wide"); //breedte band in mm document.getElementById("totprijslas").value = Math.round(100*((parseFloat(septo.value) + parseFloat(serr.value) + parseFloat(seprr.value) + parseFloat(septrr.value)) * parseFloat(nocho.value))/1000)/100; } the value returned of totprijslas can be anything between 0 and 1000,but i want the value of "totprijslas" to be a minimum of "50",so for example if result is 30 then i need it to show 50.can someone help me with an if statement for this.thx |
