JavaScript - Help With An Action To Instantly Post A Visitors Input To A Directory
I have some basic HTML knowledge but rely pretty heavily on WYSIWYG editors (dreamweaver). I think this might be more of a PHP question and not necessarily require a js, but here it is. What I am trying to do is learn how to build a directory in a site that allows any visitor to the site to add A) the company's name, B) the site URL, and C) possibly a brief description. Ideally, the site would also have a drop down menu to select the category in which to post it.
Is this too big an undertaking? Any help is greatly appreciated. And if anyone knows a good list of PHP actions that would be very helpful. Similar TutorialsHi, i have a form that uses POST but the post url also has some parameters with it. But i want the parameters to changing depending on a few combo boxes on the page. So what i want to happen is when the combo box is changed it sets a variable and that variable is some how used in the URL link within the HTML. Ive tried writing a function that gets the text of the combo as it changes by alert me with a popup. But when i try to use document.write to add my var in HTML it simple wont show. Am i doing this all wrong? Thanks andy What needs to be done to have the below input (red) passed to the forms action (blue) when the submit button is pressed. Obviously this should be the user input value and not the default 0.00 one. Ty. echo ' <center> <form method="post" action="https://www.paymate.com/PayMate/ExpressPayment?mid=MoreBloodWine&popup=false&ref=EoJ Market Place Donation¤cy=USD&amt= 1.23 &amt_editable=N&return=http://www.eojmarket.com"> Donation Amount: $<input style="vertical-align: middle; color: #FFFFFF; background-color: transparent; border: 1px solid; border-color: #9E853D; padding: 0px 0px 0px 1px; font-size: 10px; width: 50px;" name="amount" type="text" maxlength="6" value=" 0.00 "> <br /> <input type="image" style="padding-top: 10px; padding-bottom: 10px; border: none;" src="http://www.eojmarket.com/NonForumStuff/images/paymate-donate-button.png" value="Submit" alt="Pay with Paymate Express !"/> </form> </center> '; Allright, so i got index html, and on the head of the document i got jquery already, and what i got is a form, and what i want it to do is that once the input is sumbmited, to post it on a list. BUt something is missing here or maybe im doing it wrong, i need some guidance plz. here is my table: Code: <form name="postbar_add_post" id="postbar_add_post" method="post"> <fieldset> <legend>Write text here ...</legend> <input type="text" name="addcontentbox" id="addcontentbox" /> <input type="button" name="addpost" value="Submit" class="submit" /> </fieldset> </form> and heres is the function that i have on the head, where what i try is to make it post on the list: Code: <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function(){ $("form#postbar_add_post").submit(function() { var message_wall = $('#addcontentbox').attr('value'); $.ajax({ type: "POST", data:"addcontentbox="+ addcontentbox, success: function(){ $("ul#wall").prepend("<li>"+addcontentbox+"</li>"); $("ul#wall li:first").fadeIn(); } }); return false; }); }); </script> But is just not working :S .... any ideas/guidance? xD . Btw, on the body, theres only that table above, and a " <ul id="wall"></ul> " , wich is where im trying the content to be posted on. Any ideas where the flaw is ? =\ Hi to all, I have a dynamic form, when a button is clicked 3 more fields appear, the function is to colect for example from date [02/02/2010] to date [10/02/2010] equals price [250$] per week and if you want another period just click the button and 3 more fields appear. How do I get all this data to PHP? I have js API code from MaxMind, but I'm not sure how to do the rest: Code: <script language="JavaScript" src="http://j.maxmind.com/app/geoip.js"></script> <script language="JavaScript">document.write(geoip_region());</script> An example: Redirect users from PA, DE and NJ to Google.com but exclude IP address 174.343.198.99 so they can access the website even if they are in one of those states. Another example: Redirect users from FL to Google.com, but exclude IP address 123.123.123.12 so they can access even if they are in FL. Any sugestions/helps/guidance/ideas are kindly appretiated Hi, I would like to display total online viewers on my website, how can i do this? thanks Hi, I am trying to create a small art project where I want to track real-time visitors on my site. I am not very good at coding at all and am really struggling to know how to go about this To give you an idea of what I want to achieve; a basic example would be for every live visitor on my site, a circle would appear on the index page. I am aiming for the end product to be a very basic visualisation of live visitors on the site. So just a group of circles representing how many people are on the site. I am really struggling to get to grips with the coding needed and would hugely appreciate your help. Thank you very much for your time, Our website normally plays music onload that can be stopped when manually starting a video using onclick="stop1()". I've manipulated a javascript that detects if the user is a new or return user and plays the video automatically in a popup if the user is new. But, I cannot figure out how to either stop the music or prevent the music from starting at the same time. I've really got no experience with js and am fumbling my way around. would appreciate your help. How can i make counter for my site that will alert how many visitors had been before every new Visiting? <script type="text/javascript" > function counter(incrimentbyone){ // IF i make var i=0 everytime alert will be 1 and like this alert is "NaN" var i=i+incrimentbyone; alert(i); } </script> <body onLoad="counter(1)"> We all know AC_OETags.js. URL like: http://www.adobe.com/products/flashp...detection_kit/ How to make flash detection in variable with valu true or false if it is (not) detected to use in PHP applications? I have a problem with adding new inputs to a form (if and when required), Internet Explorer is fine but in Firefox if any previous input fields are filled when the more button is clicked they get reset to blank. JS: Code: fields = 0; function addInput() { if (fields != 100) { document.getElementById('input').innerHTML += "<input type='text' name='input[]' size='30' />"; fields += 1; } else { document.getElementById('input').innerHTML += "<br />Maximum 100 fields allowed."; document.form.add.disabled=true;} } form: Code: <form action="index.php" method="post"> <div id="input"> <input type="text" name="input[]" size="30" maxlength="15" /> </div> <!-- button --> <div id="more"> <input type="button" onclick="addInput()" name="add" value="More" /> </div> <!-- // button --> <input type="submit" name="submit" value="Submit" /> </form> as usual any help is appretiated .. I am thinking this should be fairly easy but yet I am not getting far. I want to have a form with a single text imput field for a zip code. Depending on which zip code the user enters will determine which url they will be sent to. If they enter a zip code which is not in the script, they would be sent to a default url. I am also assuming this can be accomplished with javascript. Any help is greatly appreciated. Hi all, Can anyone point me in the right direction for some sample code that when the selection on a checkbox changes, either writes or removes some content? In this instance, when the checkbox is unchecked, I want more table rows and columns written with the relevant data within them. Then when checked, I want this data removed. Many thanks Hi - Im pretty new to all this! Have created a form on my website, uploaded database to server, but when the form is submitted - instead of opening the property selection, it just lists the Index of /home/properties and files within that folder. Can anyone help me please? Perky
Thanks for all the help Old Pedant. You're nice enough to lend people a hand when you don't have to, and this makes the second or third time you've helped me solve a problem I've had with my website. Thanks so much. So I'm making a page where when someone clicks on the second drop list, then it carrys out a function first, and it calculates it based on what the first droplist is picked. Here's the code I have: Code: <html> <head> <title></title> <script type="text/javascript"> function first() { var gold = 4; var green = 6; var red = 30; var blue = 0; var total = 100; if (calculate.color.GetElementById('gold').select) { var depends = gold/total }; if (calculate.color.GetElementById('green').select) { var depends = green/total }; if (calculate.color.GetElementById('red').select) { var depends = red/total }; if (calculate.color.GetElementById('blue').select) { var depends = blue/total }; if (calculate.choice1.GetElementById('first').select) { calculate.results.value = 1 * calculate.howmany.value * depends; } } </script> </head> <body> <form name="calculate"> <table> <td> I need: <input type="text" name="howmany" /> <br /> My choice is: </td> <td> <select name="color"> <option selected id="gold">Gold</option> <option id="green">Green</option> <option id="red">Red</option> <option id="blue">Blue Charms</option> </select> <br /> <select name="choice1"> <option id="first" onClick="first()"> First </option> </select> </td> </tr> <tr> <td colspan="2" align="center" valign="top"> You will need <input type="text" name="results" /> </td> </tr> </table> </form> </body> </html> Any help is well appreciated. Thanks. Hi! I'm using NiftyPlayer (http://www.varal.org/niftyplayer/) to play an mp3 on my website. I'd like it to refresh the page when the song is over (I have some php grabbing songs from a database and choosing the one to play at random). NiftyPlayer has two functions that are probably useful for this. First, if you have a link go to: Code: javascript:alert(niftyplayer('niftyPlayer1').getState()) It will display the current state of the player (stopped, playing, paused, finished). Presumably, a piece of javascript could poll this variable every second, and once it equals "finished", execute the redirect. However, I think this other piece of code included with NiftyPlayer would help even more. In the .js file, it says the following: Code: this.registerEvent = function (eventName, action) { // eventName is a string with one of the following values: onPlay, onStop, onPause, onError, onSongOver, onBufferingComplete, onBufferingStarted // action is a string with the javascript code to run. // // example: niftyplayer('niftyPlayer1').registerEvent('onPlay', 'alert("playing!")'); this.obj.SetVariable(eventName, action); }; So it would appear that I could use something like this to automatically refresh when the song is over: Code: niftyplayer('niftyPlayer1').registerEvent('onSongOver', 'location.reload(true)'); The problem here is that I have no javascript experience and have no idea how to implement either of these ideas. Help? I have an AJAX search bar what searches after each keyup, but id like to make it so it runs the search if theres a certain delay after the keyup so if you search "hello" it doesnt run 5 times, only once (because there wont be a half a second gap between each letter. Sorry if that doesn't make sense >.<, im just curious if 1) thats possible, 2) what i need to look at to get this to work.
