JavaScript - Declaring Variables Within Html
Hi all,
Rookie (extremely) programmer here, so be gentle Trying to build a little tool here.. Code: <html> <body> Artist ID: <input type=TEXT id=ArtistID name= ArtistID value="Artist ID"> <SELECT> <OPTION value="http://URL.com/EditUser/"ArtistID.value".html">Edit User</OPTION> <OPTION value="http://URL.com/EditArtist/"ArtistID.value".html">Edit Artist</OPTION> <OPTION value="http://URL.com/Subscruptions/"ArtistID.value".html">Subscriptions</OPTION> <OPTION value="http://URL.com/ControlRoom/"ArtistID.value".html">Control Room</OPTION> </SELECT> <input type="submit" value="Chyeah"> </body> </html> Yeah. Like I said. Rookie. I'm trying to save the input and pass it into the URLs that are the option values. So Artist ID being 111 would take you to url.com/<WHATEVER OPTION YOU CHOSE FROM DROP DOWN>/111 What am I doing wrong/What am I not doing? ps if this is in the wrong forum, sorry! Feel free to move it. Couldn't decide if this should go in DOM forum or not (probably bc I don't know what DOM is!) Similar TutorialsHi all, I'm a javascript newbie and having some trouble with what I imagine it s a very basic issue! I am trying to declare a variable inside a function and use it later on in my code... but it just already returns white space... i.e. not variable value. I am setting it within this function: Code: function show_video1(){ document.getElementById('video1').style.display="block"; var video1Name = "Education World News (Part 1)"; document.getElementById('video2').style.display="none"; document.getElementById('video3').style.display="none"; document.getElementById('video4').style.display="none"; document.getElementById('video5').style.display="none"; document.getElementById('video6').style.display="none"; document.getElementById('video7').style.display="none"; document.getElementById('video8').style.display="none"; document.getElementById('video9').style.display="none"; document.getElementById('video10').style.display="none"; document.getElementById('video11').style.display="none"; } and trying to call it later on with this: Code: <script type="text/javascript">document.write(video1Name)</script> It might be worth noting that each one of my 11 videos will hace a different name. Can anyone help out a newbie? Many thanks, greens85 Hi I need a bit of javascript help with an array please. just don't seem to have the correct syntax. (the "code" below is pseudo code, just to get the idea across) Here's what I currently have: var bill = new array[20]; var sam = new array[20]; var nancy = new array[20]; var Oscar = new array[20]; I'm assigning objects to them (ie Oscar[5] = new objLabel() This seems like a kluge, however. Here's what I'd like (again, pseudo-code) var Objects = {bill:null; sam:null; nancy:null; Oscar:null}; var theObject = new Array of Objects[20]; // yes: i know that's wrong... and that's the part I'm having trouble with so that I can do something like: with theObject[5] do { bill = new objLabel(); nancy = new objImage(); }; Just seems to me that keeping a single array of multiple objects is likely to be less error-prone than multiple arrays of single objects... But I don't have the syntax right... or can it be done in JS? If it's doable, would someone be kind enough to show me how to declare and access that example? Today I have been embedding some Google Maps on my website. When I got around to putting in event handlers for markers on the map I ran into some trouble with how to declare them in the way I have the map setup. The issue is that I have an array, label, and want to indicate a single element from that array to the event handling function. But the declaration of this seems tricky. The code in question are the two lines like this one in the script below: GEvent.addListener(marker[i], 'mouseover', function() { map.addOverlay(label[i]); }); Specifically, the problem is with function() { map.addOverlay(label[i]); because I don't want label[i] to be used, but whatever value i has should be substituded in there. But since this is a function being declared and not actually executed the value for i does not get used. I've been able to get it to work by using eval() to force the actual value of i into the code, like so: eval('GEvent.addListener(marker[i], \'mouseout\', function() { map.removeOverlay(label['+i+']); });'); but am wondering if there is a better solution? Here's a section of my script showing the issue in context. You can see that i is incremented with a loop and used as the index of a few arrays. Code: for (i = 0; i < buildings.length; i++) { icon[i] = new GIcon(); icon[i].image = 'http://labs.google.com/ridefinder/images/mm_20_red.png'; icon[i].iconSize = new GSize(12, 20); icon[i].iconAnchor = new GPoint(6, 20); map.addOverlay(marker[i] = new GMarker(new GLatLng(buildings[i][1], buildings[i][2]), {icon:icon[i]})); label[i] = new ELabel(new GLatLng(buildings[i][1], buildings[i][2]), '<nobr>'+buildings[i][3]+'<\/nobr>', 'maplabel'); GEvent.addListener(marker[i], 'mouseover', function() { map.addOverlay(label[i]); }); GEvent.addListener(marker[i], 'mouseout', function() { map.removeOverlay(label[i]); }); } Hey guys, i'm taking on my first minor project in javascript and i've run into an error. For whatever reason, buttons i've defined are calling on functions that supposedly don't exist, yet they are clearly in the code and can be applied anywhere. I also checked the syntax errors in google chrome and they state: Uncaught SyntaxError: Unexpected token else Uncaught reference error: go() is not defined Uncaught reference error: highscore() is not defined. So without further delay, here is the full code. Can anyone help me out? Code: <html> <head> <script type="text/JavaScript"> <!-- var sam = 9; var sally = 8; var donald = 4; function percentage (score) { return score / 10 * 100; }; function go() { document.write("Sam's score on the test is " + percentage(sam) + "%, <br \> Sally's score on the test is " + percentage(sally) + "%, <br \> Donald's score on the test is " + percentage(donald) + "%"); }; function highscore() { if (Math.max(90, 80, 40) === 90){ document.write("Sam's score was the highest.")}; else if (Math.max(90, 80, 40) === 80){ document.write("Sally's score was the highest.")}; else{ document.write("Donald's score was the highest.")} }; //--> </script> </head> <body> <input type="button" onclick="go()" value="Student Grades"> <br \> <input type="button" onclick="highscore()" value="Highest Score"> </body> </html> Hi, I am doing a Validation for Form "Text input". If the user leaves the input empty, a function is starting to run. If the field is bigger than 1 - so it doesn't get into the function. The problem is: The first time, the user left the input empty, function ran, and I got the alert - that's OK. Second time, The user added 10 in the AGE input - And again he gets the Alert - But he should not. Note: Age input value, returns from a different function (calc) to a var called: result. this is the code: Code: $(document).ready(function(){ $('#btn_send').click(function(){ //var result gets the value from another function of input "Age" value. -> return thisform.Age.value var result = calc(document.getElementById("campaignform")); if (result<1) { $("#campaignform").submit(function(event) { event.preventDefault(); alert ("prevent default"); }); } else{ return true; }; }); }); so if you try the second time to click on Submit, then you get into $('#btn_send').click(function() and eventhough you added for example 67 in the AGE (return as result) input, you get into the IF statement which is: if (result<1) I'm pretty new to developing, so I hop you will understand me. Sorry if I have mistakes. Can you advice what could be a better TITLE for this question? thanks in advance, Shai can anyone tell me why this doesn't work please: <html> <head> </head> <body> <input type="hidden" name="ba1r1c1" value="hello"> <script language="text/javascript"> ba1r1c1.value = "goodbye"; document.write(ba1r1c1.value); </script> </body> </html> thanks Currently I have the following script:- Code: function validate_form(){ if(regform.reguser.value == ""){ alert("Please completed the selected box"); regform.reguser.focus(); return false; }else if(regform.regemail.value == ""){ alert("Please completed the selected box"); regform.regemail.focus(); return false; }else if(regform.regpass1.value == ""){ alert("Please completed the selected box"); regform.regpass1.focus(); return false; }else if(regform.regpass2.value == ""){ alert("Please completed the selected box"); regform.regpass2.focus(); return false; }else{ return true; } } to validate a simple registration form, however I initially tried to streamline this function by cycling through an array using a loop to point to various input elements in the HTML page itself. I found that when trying to use a variable in the aforementioned if statements the javascript failed to work i.e. Code: var test = "reguser"; if(regform.test.value = ""){ } I know the javascript is looking for the input element "test" instead of "reguser" but is there any way I can force it to look for the contents of the variable. I cant figure out how to get the value of a name inputed in HTML into the following script... <!DOCTYPE html> <html lang="en"> <head> <meta charset="utf-8"> <meta name="generator" content="CoffeeCup HTML Editor (www.coffeecup.com)"> <meta name="created" content="Sat, 10 Sep 2011 19:40:31 GMT"> <meta name="description" content=""> <meta name="keywords" content=""> <title>Enter golfers name</title> <!--[if IE]> <script src="http://html5shim.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/html5.js"></script> <![endif]--> <SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript" type="text/javascript" src="script1.js"></SCRIPT> <SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript"> function GetPage(){ document.write("OK") <!-- var fullname = "david park" var lab = ""; var result = fullname.toUpperCase(); var word=result.split(" "); fname = word[0] lname = word[1] alpha = lname.slice(0,1); lab = fname.concat("_") lab = lab.concat(lname) if(word[2]){ ext = word[2] lab = lab.concat("_") lab = lab.concat(ext) } var intro = "./Stats_"; page = intro.concat(alpha); page = page.concat("_golfers.html#"); page = page.concat(lab) document.write(page) <!-- window.location.pathname = page } </script> </head> <body> <center> <form action="form_action.asp" method="get"> You can enter the golfersname or select him from the above list.<br><br> <input type="text" name="fullname" /> <button type="submit" onclick="GetPage()">GO</button> </form> </center> <BR><BR><BR> This is the end </body> </html> so i have a navigation bar and instead of clicking on it to another page on the site where everything reloads again i want it to just reload the content area, so i have 5 tables of content each representing a different page and i just want it this way so i can implement something else that doesnt have anything to do with this Code: <script type="text/javascript"> var page = 1; function setPage1() { page = 1; } function setPage2() { page = 2; } function setPage3() { page = 3; } function setPage4() { page = 4; } function setPage5() { page = 5; } function setBlank1(x) { if (page==1) { x.class="content"; } else { x.class="blank"; } } function setBlank2(x) { if (page==2) { x.class="content"; } else { x.class="blank"; } } function setBlank3(x) { if (page==3) { x.class="content"; } else { x.class="blank"; } } function setBlank4(x) { if (page==4) { x.class="content"; } else { x.class="blank"; } } function setBlank5(x) { if (page==5) { x.class="content"; } else { x.class="blank"; } } this is my javascript so whats supposed to happen is when someone clicks a link on the nav bar it sets the page to that value so only that value is showing. i put the functions setPage1-5 in class="setPage1(this)" according to what content area they go too Code: table.blank { display: none; that is my blank class attribute so its not there but its loaded please ask me any questions and sugest anything im not a javascript expert or anything of that sort but ive been looking this over for a couple days now and i cant find anything online either I have been working on a few budget scripts that I can access from the web in using HTML. My problem is that when variable values change I need to change these values in all of the HTML files on the server. I know that there is a way to declare global variables in a single file and use those values in another file but I have not been able to find any information that tells me exactly how to do this. I have tried to put it together on my own using what little informaiton I have been able to find but have not been able to get this to work. Is there a more detailed referance that I can find somewhere or does anyone know what steps I need to take to make this happen?
I have an HTML page that is making use of JQUERY and many other JQUERY plugins. Inside this HTML page there are 2 different types of iFrames that display PHP forms. One is a normal iFrame: Code: <iframe height="740" allowTransparency="true" frameborder="0" scrolling="auto" style="width:100%;border:none;overflow-x:hidden" src="https://www.website.com/machform/embed.php?id=9" title="Contact Us"><a href="https://www.website.com/machform/view.php?id=9" title="Contact Us">Contact Us</a></iframe> The other makes use of a JQUERY plugin called Shadowbox: Code: <a href="https://www.website.com/machform/embed.php?id=8" rel="shadowbox;width=1100;height=950;player=iframe" class="button1"><span></span><strong>Click Here</strong></a> Inside these iFrames are PHP forms from a PHP form application called MachForm, which is highly customizable. Here are the questions. Ultimately, I want to accomplish 2 things: 1. I would like to send variable information from the PHP form in the iFrame to my HTML page, to be displayed within javascripts. For example: If someone fills out a PHP form in my iFrame and clicks submit, I want to have a JQUERY popup say, "Thank you, [NAME]". 2. When the user submits the form, the action of clicking the submit button in the PHP form should enable #1, above. There needs to be a way to tell the HTML/Javascript that the submit button on the PHP form in the iFrame has been clicked. I realize this is all fairly vague, especially without the addition of more code. However, I am not even sure if I am posting this in the correct forum, since it incorporates a little of several languages and styles. From this point any direction or idea would be very helpful! favorite I'd like to modify a form on www.formsite.com (form builder app): username: testuser password: password I would like to use the nicedit.com's inline content editor's js to transform my textarea's into a richtext area. At present the nicedit editor works well in creating the richtextarea. However, the KEY point is that I would like formsite's form to pipe in the the created html and render it with the html component of formsite. Currently, the pipe function in formsite will only put out the html syntax in it's html module. action seen he http://fs8.formsite.com/testform/form1/index.html So this would be: 1. checking out my form on formsite.com 2. the script from nicedit.com is already installed in an html component. 3. changing or telling me the scripts/tags/or whatever for formsite form using formsites form builder (which allows some html/script editing). 4. changed so as to render the rich text entered on page 1 in page 2 instead of the html syntax. Any other solutions using formsite and any other richtextarea solutions would be great too! Hi All Please could any one shed some light on the values of thirdVar fourthVar and fifthVar. Am i correct to say that value of thirdVar is o cromwell Any help and explanation would be great thanks. var firstVar = 'oliver' var secondVar = 'cromwell' var thirdVar = firstVar.charAt (0) + '. ' + secondVar var fourthVar = thirdVar.length var fifthVar = 'The last character is' + thirdVar.charAt (fourthVar) + '!' Noob here. Please bear with me.http://www.codingforums.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif <span title="this is the title">....</span> I need to use variables for the title instad of text. Please advise. Thank you. I wrote a script: when the same button is clicked for the first time, it should give a message "Hello World", for the second time "hello Earth". The script is not working. I don't want anybody to re-write the script, but to look at how i define variables and tell me where I am wrong. I think, this is where the main error is. my current script just outputs the message "hello world". my assumption is that functions can alter the value of a global variable. Thank you very much. Code: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <title> title</title> <meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html;charset=UTF-8" /> <script type="text/javascript"> var count=0; function changePar() { if(count===0) first(); if(count===1) second(); } function first() { document.getElementById("changingParagraph").innerHTML="Hello World"; var count=1; } function second() { document.getElementById("changingParagraph").innerHTML="Hello Earth"; var count=0; } </script> </head> <body> <button onclick="changePar()">Click Here</button> <p id="changingParagraph"></p> </body> </html> I hope someone can help me! I have a website that sells a product through a third party merchant - ie a customer clicks my "buy now" button and they are transfered to the merchants payment processing page. once the transaction is complete the customer is sent back to my thank you page where I give them some extra stuff for free. All pretty normal I guess. The problem is this - The merchant sends back some url parameters when they transfer the customer to the thank you page and I would now like to use the "customer name" parameter to personalise the thank you page to test if this makes any difference to my return rate. Now, whilst I am not a complete newbie I haven't got a clue how to achieve this. What I want to do is have the page display: "Hello [customer] .....etc..." The customer name parameter is passed as "cname" and is one of about a dozen passed seperated, presumably, by "&" Thanks for any help! Paul hello i am editing a javascript game and im trying to get a heading (h1) to display the value of a variable in a javascript function however everything i have tried always causes an error. Any help will be apreciated. Ok i'm really new at this so i apologize beforehand if i ask a stupid question or anything. I'm working on a project that displays a GUI asking for a name as well as grades. when you enter them all it runs the grades through a formula and opens another frame with the results. I don't need any help building the GUI what i need help on is I cannot for the life of me find out how to access the variable from another frame. Everything i've seen online tells me to set the variable outside the class but i need to run the formula inside because the grades come from the user. Sorry if my code is messy, like i said i'm very new at this Code: // Loads all neccesary plugins import java.awt.*; import java.awt.event.*; import javax.swing.*; public class SInfo extends JPanel { // Setting all text fields, labels and button public JButton submitInfo; // These are the 4 I cannot retrieve add (Sname); add (AsgnAvg); add (ProjectAvg); add (TotalAvg); } } } Thank you in advance for anyone who even looks at it Hi there, Greetings, I have limited knowledge on Javascript. I wish someone could help me out. Thanks. I have actually found a free script named "Image Flow" (http://finnrudolph.de/ImageFlow/Examples) on the website. Then, I have uploaded it to my web server. Everything was fine and functioning well. I would like to add in new Var (to make new window appears after clicking) according to the codes given but failed to do so. The codes given are A) Code: var target_1 = new ImageFlow(); target_1.init({ ImageFlowID: 'target_1,' onClick: function() {window.open(this.url, '_blank');} }); Then, I just added the above code into imageflow.JS and imageflow.packed.JS. (I have attached the file below) Original: Code: domReady(function() { var instanceOne = new ImageFlow(); instanceOne.init({ ImageFlowID:'myImageFlow' }); }); After amendment: Code: domReady(function() { var instanceOne = new ImageFlow(); instanceOne.init({ ImageFlowID:'myImageFlow' }); var target_1 = new ImageFlow(); target_1.init({ ImageFlowID: 'target_1,' onClick: function() {window.open(this.url, '_blank');} }); }); However, no pictures were loaded after that. Does it involve more than just "copy and paste"? Or what have I done incorrectly? Sorry to disturb you. I need to add onclick event to an element => myFunction(myVariable) but instead of the myVariable I need it's value to be set as an attr. As in: Code: <!html> <head> </head> <body> <input type="button" id="element" value="click me!"> <script type="text/javascript"> var myVariable = "myvalue"; document.getElementById('element').onclick = function () { showIt(myVariable); } myVariable = "myvalue2"; function showIt(msg){ alert(msg); } </script> </body> </html> Now i need the "click me!" input to alert "myvalue" and not "myvalue2". |
