JavaScript - Looking To Add A 'help' Icon That Shows An Overlay Text Not A Popup Window.
I wish to add a help icon to variousd parts of my pages that places an overlay text box for the help that that help icon relates to.
maybe a call like help(datefield) or help(somethingelse) then the script that shows the help text shows the text that relates to the string passed. can someone please provide information on how i can do this. Similar TutorialsHey there everybody! I'm learning javascript, and I am having trouble figuring out how to do this. Maybe you guys can help me out. What I need is for my main page to have a text field. Above the text field there should be a set of images for bold, italics, underline, etc; when you click on them it inserts the html code <b></b> at the cursor point. Next I want there to be a link, that when clicked will open a popup box with smileys. When you click on one of the smiley images it should insert the smiley code (example  ) into the parent window text field. And would it be possible to make that work with pages of emotes? Or perhaps a second popup window? I hope I explained that without it sounding confusing. I would really appreciate any help. Here is my basic code, it does not include a popup code however. Code: <html> <script type="text/javascript"> function insert(el,ins) { window.lstText={}; if (el.setSelectionRange){ el.value = el.value.substring(0,el.selectionStart) + ins + el.value.substring(el.selectionStart,el.selectionEnd) + el.value.substring(el.selectionEnd,el.value.length); } else if (document.selection && document.selection.createRange) { el.focus(); var range = document.selection.createRange(); range.text = ins + range.text; } } </script> <body> <form> <textarea rows="20" cols="100" name="txt1" onfocus="window.lstText=this;"> This is sample text, click anywhere in here then choose on of the buttons above to see text inserted. </textarea><br /><br /> <img src="http://i570.photobucket.com/albums/ss141/vwcorrado/Docs_smiley.jpg" onclick="insert(window.lstText,'hello')"> <input type="button" value="hi" onclick="insert(window.lstText,'hi')"> <br /> </form> </body> </html> I'm writing a small browser-side Javascript that parses XML from a file and modifies it using E4X. I need to get the result to an xml text file without making the user go through a dozen hoops. Since making a JS client do file I/O is nearly impossible I gave up on that. My next idea was to make Firefox open a new window of contentType text/xml, with my serialized xml in it: Code: var xmlDoc = new XML(SourceXMLString); //SourceXMLString is read from an xml text file output = window.open(""); output.document.open("text/xml"); output.document.write(xmlDoc.toXMLString()); output.document.close(); However any document.write instance seems to set the contentType to text/html and so all the tags are rendered wrong, naturally. From https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=73409 it seems that document.open creates the right contentType, but document.write messes it up. Note: this is for a specific internal project, not the public internet. Therefore it only needs to work in Mozilla 3+, and also server-side is not an option. I'm totally open to other suggestions. What's the most streamlined/easiest way, for the code and the user, to get from that XML construct to an .xml file? hello everybody i need your help and experience for having code to show ( overlay / modal window ) to the user when closing or navigating away from the page ( i want put in this window facebook share to make the user to share the page in his facebook ) , bytheway i wanna use it in my wordpress in every post could it be happen ? Thanks for helping I have the code below in my popup window which currently brings up a blank page in the background as the main window. Instead I want the popup to come up but the original page I left is in the background as the main window. Does anyone know how I can do that with the code I currently have. I cannot get it to pop up and I'm not sure where I have went wrong with it. I need it to pop up once the update button is clicked and contain the information that has been input into the form. Any help would be much appreciated. Hi, I'm kinda hoping this is possible but haven't found any reference to it... I have a parent page that opens a popup on click that launches a sidebar navigation on the right of the screen and resizes the parent page. What I am wanting to do is create a second popup (approx 250px high) that opens below the navigation (which is only around 600px high) but I have noticed that even when you have no status bar in the popup windows, they can still end up overlapping because of additional tools or plugins that the viewer has in their browser. Is there any way to get the popups to butt up against each other instead of overlapping? More like a relative popup? Any assistance would be appreciated. :-) Hey, I am using an RSS scroller to show recent news feeds I am also using Ajax to change the content from page to page, but instead of using ajax to load the external page for the 'news page' (the image above is the home page) I've had to use a show/hide DIV tool as it refused to load the javascript from the external page. All is working fine apart from text overlay. This is the news page: Code: <script language=javascript type='text/javascript'> function hidediv(pass) { var divs = document.getElementsByTagName('div'); for(i=0;i<divs.length;i++){ if(divs[i].id.match(pass)){//if they are 'see' divs if (document.getElementById) // DOM3 = IE5, NS6 divs[i].style.display="none";// show/hide else if (document.layers) // Netscape 4 document.layers[divs[i]].display = 'none'; else // IE 4 document.all.hideshow.divs[i].display = 'none'; } } } function showdiv(pass) { var divs = document.getElementsByTagName('div'); for(i=0;i<divs.length;i++){ if(divs[i].id.match(pass)){ if (document.getElementById) divs[i].style.display="block"; else if (document.layers) // Netscape 4 document.layers[divs[i]].display = 'block'; else // IE 4 document.all.hideshow.divs[i].display = 'block'; } } } </script> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> </head> <body onload="show_clock()"> <div id="wrapper"> <div id="header"> <a href="#" rel="nofollow" target="_parent">Planet Volume</a> </div> <div id="menu"> <ul> <li><a href="#" onclick="javascript:showdiv('newsbox'); It gets very annoying. If you could help me with this dilema I will be very great full! Thanks alot. I guess this case applies to both popup windows opened by window.open() and by showModalWindow(). I have two buttons in popup window, "Cancel" and "Save". If the user clicks either button, there is a "process" at parent window before close() at popup being called. The problem now is, if the user click the "X" sign at top right corner of that popup window, how to trigger the "process"? I think I can do nothing in popup window since the closure is unexpected programmatically. Can I put some kind of listener in parent window to detect if popup is closed? Hi All How popup windows are made using Javascript? I am not talking about the popups cretaed using window.open. I am talking about the window which appears to display some advertisements in most of the sites. Charles Hello everyone... I found some script like that but some of them being blocked by IE or other browsers.. if anyone has kinda this JS code.. Please share it.. Thanks a lot I was wanting to know if it was possible to use eventlistener on a popup window? What i am wanting to do is this. My script runs functions then uses window.open to open a specified url when the window opens i want it to alert a message for useage of said url.
Hi I want to create a popup that is completely contained within the page (so i guess its not really a popup). I'm looking for something where if a button is clicked, a small box will come up in the current window and become the active window, while the original window is visible but not active. It's hard to explain, but its a popup that is contained in the same window. And when the user presses okay or cancel on the "popup" window. They return to where they were in the original window. Is this possible? How would I do it? Thanks Hopefully someone can help a newbie with this. I have a map with onclick areas. When you click these areas, a popup window displays a text file. This is rather cumbersome, so I thought of using a popup box instead of a window and linking this to an onmouseover and onmouseout event. The only problem I have is trying to find out how to dump the contents of the text file into the popup box using the simplest means. The URL of the map I am trying to do this with is: http://www.intercitycharters.com/Weather/Summary.php Any suggestions? Hello , everyone. Was wondering if you can put a single popup that could appear to many visitors to a site at the same time , regardless of the page you 're browsing . Is there a chance to do it in JavaScript or another language ? How could i do it? Iappreciate the help .
Hi, I desperately need help after hours of reading 1000s of forums just to be able to have a thumbnail which will enlarge in a new window. I've found this script in one of the forums, and I am trying to apply it to my page. But when I click on a thumbnail, although it's opening a pop-up window, it also enlarges the image in the current browser. How should I fix this? I also need to do the same thing with a .swf file. How can I have a flash movie enlarge when clicked?
