JavaScript - Change One Letter In A Text String
I need to change one letter in a text string,
but near as I can figure out, I can't just do this: Code: TextString[8] = "X"; Is that possible, or do I have to break the string and rebuild it into a second string? Similar TutorialsHi, below is my code and i cant seem to figure out how i can loop the string and find the location of letter "a" in the string and display it like "1 3 17" ... i cant seem to figure out what i am doing wrong in the loop and keep getting "1 1" ... Thanks before hand! <html> <body> <script type="text/javascript"> var char = "a"; var str="JavaScript is great!" var pos= 0 for(i=0; i<=str.length; i++) { if(pos == i) { var pos = str.indexOf("a") document.write(pos++ + " ") } } </script> </body> </html> Hey, I'm writing a piece of code, using a given code as an example, but few things are confusing to me, if you could just explain me step by step what it does, I would really appreciated. Code: function getGeneticCodeString (type) { if ((type.toLowerCase() == "standard") || (type.toLowerCase() == "transl_table=1")) { return "/gc[acgturyswkmbdhvn]/=A," + // Here I know that the three letter combination HAS to begin with 'gc' // can be followed by a,c,t,g or u. // What do the other letter represent? "/[tu]g[ctuy]/=C," + // Begins with either 't' or 'u', middle symbol is 'g' // third symbol can be c, t, or u ('u' can be used only if it begins with 'u'. // what is the 'y' for in the second square brackets for?? "/ga[agr]/=E " ; // Must start with 'ga' followed by 'a' or 'g'. // What is 'r' for? } } Hope, I didn't confuse anybody. Thank you. I'm trying to determine whether a word exists in the URL and if so, change the CSS of a div. I know how to do each task individually, but combining the two is giving me trouble. So far I have: Code: function checkSent(divname) { if(document.URL.indexOf("sent") >= 0) *document.getElementById(success).style.display = 'block'; } var sentornot = checkSent(); // If the URL contains the word, sent, then change the display of the element "success" to block I can successfully determine whether the string exists in the URL by adding an alert, but the Javascript to change the CSS doesn't work. The CSS for the div element "success" is as follows: Code: #success { display: none; } Any help is appreciated! Thanks! Edit: If needed, this is the code I used to test whether the "check URL" portion works: Code: function checkSent(divname) { if(document.URL.indexOf("sent") >= 0) { alert("found"); document.getElementById("success").style.display = 'block'; //this line doesn't work :( } else{ alert("not found"); } } I have a problem thats above my head, im new to javascript. I want to be able to control the first three characters of an input string on a login form. If a user types GP15555 or JP15555 I want it to change to GPL5555 or JPL5555 respectively changing the "1" to an "L" on the prefix is this at all possible? any point in the right direction would be great. heres my code Code: </script> <script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript"> //<![CDATA[ function Login(form) { var password = form.password.value; var pin = form.pin.value; var product = form.product.value; if (password) { var htsite = product + "/" + password + "/" + pin + "/index.html"; window.location = htsite; } else { alert("Please enter your password and pin."); } } // End --> //]]> </script> /thanks gp OK right I got a modification from here that someone requested a few weeks ago. It was supposed to replace text in the userlinks. Since I'm in IPB I find it very useful. But here's the thing I try to replace "0 New Messages" to "Inbox[0]" it worked but when I get new PM's it doesn't work like it should. So I rearranged the code but it doesn't work Code: var mb = document.getElementById("userlinks").getElementsByTagName("a"); for(bm = 0;bm < mb.length;bm++){ if(mb[bm].innerHTML=="My Controls"){mb[bm].innerHTML="Preferences"} for(fi=0;fi < mb[bm].innerHTML.length;fi++){ if(fi[mb['bm']].innerHTML==""+fi+" New Messages"){fi[mb[bm]].innerHTML="Inbox "+fi+""} } } ^^ My part there in the code is retarded lol I am trying to learn SVG and I have alot of the basics including javascript manipulation. But I am really stuck on trying to manipulate the actual text itself. Code: <text id="text1" x="300" y="200" font-size="60" font-family="tempus sans itc" stroke="red" stroke-width="2" onmouseover="changeText()"> OMG </text> I am trying to change the text "OMG" to say something else when you hover over it. For example: It says OMG, I want to hover over the text and have it change to WTF. Like you could do with innerHTML. anybody have any experience with SVG that cuold help me? I am just starting to learn javascript and was hoping someone might be able to answer my question: var months = "April Showers"; document.write('<p><img src="ad11.jpg"); document.write(" alt="); document.write(months); document.write(">"); document.write(months); How come when I display my output to a browser without the presence of the ad11.jpg file, only the first word (April) in the text string "April Showers" is dispayed where the .jpg file is suppose to be...but the last line displays the entire text string. Hi there just wondering if its possible to make a text box in java script and then for that box 2 change colour when the user inputs something. For example if they enter 3 it will turn green but if they enter anything else then it will turn red. Thanks Code: function greet() { var hour = (new Date()).getHours(); var when = (hour > 17) ? "evening" : ( (hour > 11) ? "afternoon" : "morning" ); document.write('<img src="' + when + '.png" alt="Good ' + when + '">\n');} This script puts up a png which gives a greeting depending on the time of day. I want instead to put the greeting as text. It's a bit ostentacious as it is.. I would appreciate any pointers. Site is here. Thank you. Hello, I'm trying to put a site together and this time I'm going for an interactive feel. Code: <p id="status">[Closed]</p> Thats the html of it. What i'm trying to accomplish is when the mouse goes onto the <p>, the [Closed] then turns into Code: <a href="index.php">Open</a> but I can't get this figured. Could someone help me? Thnx! Hi guys, Am creating a web page in which a user searches a customer using customer id. The results are then displayed in a table. This is working fine. In addition to this, I have created another form in which a user enters a value in a textbox. This value is then compared to the results obtained in the previous table. The values below should be shown in green and those above in red (identical values may be shown in amber). This should be acomplished using javascript. My code is as shown below: PHP Code: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" /> <title>Search Script</title> <script type="text/javascript"> function hallo(){ var value1=200 var inputVal = window.document.getElementById("one").value; //alert(negNum); if(inputVal > value1){ window.document.getElementById("color").style.color="red"; } else if(inputVal < value1) { window.document.getElementById("color").style.color="green"; } else if(inputVal == value1) { window.document.getElementById("color").style.color="#FF7E00"; } } </script> </head> <body> <form> Value1: <input type="text" name="one" id="one" ><br/> Value2: <input type="text" name="two" id="two" value="" onClick="hallo();"> <br/> Value3: <input type="text" name="three" id="$cell" value="test data"> </form> <?Php require_once("database.php"); $CustID=$_POST['CustomerID']; $query="SELECT c.*,r.Meter_No,r.January,r.February,r.March,r.April,r.May,r.June FROM customer AS c,readings AS r WHERE c.CustomerID=r.CustomerID AND c.CustomerID='".$CustID."'"; $result=mysql_query($query) ; //If no matching records are found in the database, the code below will display a customized error message $num=mysql_numrows($result)or die("No Matching Records Found In The Database!"); $fields_num = mysql_num_fields($result); echo "<h3>Historical Meter Readings</h3>"; echo "<table border='0'cellspacing='5' cellpadding='5' id ='three'><tr>"; // printing table headers for($i=0; $i<$fields_num; $i++) { $field = mysql_fetch_field($result); echo "<td >{$field->name}</td>"; } echo "</tr>\n"; // printing table rows while($row = mysql_fetch_row($result)) { echo "<tr id='color'>"; // $row is array... foreach( .. ) puts every element // of $row to $cell variable foreach($row as $cell) echo "<td align='center' <font face='Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif' >$cell</td>"; echo "</tr >\n"; } mysql_free_result($result); ?> </body> </html> Currently my javascript code changes the entire row in the table, which is not I desired. How do I edit this script so that only values in particular CELL in a row e.g CELL 5, is changed and not the entire row? Thank you. I'm writing a calculator script that will need user input (how much they pay on internet, phone or cable bill) and then multiply those numbers by a known rate and then show the customer the new number. I have the math setup (working right now), and the script works to spit out the answers in an alert. Instead of the alert (which is the only thing I can do correctly at this point), I need the script to give the answers for each bill and then a total answer at the bottom. The script is here, it's all in the index file. http://gotsmith.com/calculator/ Thanks. here is my problem i need to set the color of a text here is what i need to change Code: <div style="position:absolute; left:10px; top:100px; width:250px; text-align:center;"> <font color="lightgreen" size="6"><b>* Mileage *</b></font><b> <font color="black" size="6"><div id="bullet4">Not Specified</div></font><br></b> <font color="lightgreen" size="6"><b>* Gearbox *</b></font><b> <font color="black" size="6"><div id="bullet5">Not Specified</div></font><br></b> <font color="lightgreen" size="6"><b>* Engine size *</b></font><b> <font color="black" size="6"><div id="bullet6">Not Specified</div></font><br></b> <font color="lightgreen" size="6"><b>* Body style *</b></font><b> <font color="black" size="6"><div id="bullet7">Not Specified</div></font><br></b> </div> now i need to set the color from a text file server side so far i can set the contents of the div serverside but the customer needs to be able to change the color of the innerhtml . now i would like to store the color in a text file color.txt i can make the code to change the txt file myself inside the color.txt would be "lightgreen" or other color how would i go about this. so in basic terms i need to set the color of the text from a color.txt file sat next to the index.html |
