JavaScript - How Open Pdf File Associated With A Particular Radio Button?
Similar TutorialsDear All, I am trying to design a from with radio buttons and text boxes which will accept text values upon clicking the radio buttons. So basically the textbox only appears when the radio button is clicked. The problem I am facing is the textbox does not hide upon selecting different radio button. Below I am posting the javascript and the associated html form for the same. I would like to request some suggestions and directions for the same. Is it possible to open the checked PDF file in a slightly smaller screen so that the user, when finished with the PDF file, can always be sure that he/she is closing only the PDF file and not the browser? I'm trying to use the showDetails() to do this, but am having two problems: 1) where in the <body> should this function be "called", and 2) how does one get a file name into the first parameter of window.open when the name of the file is not known until the user has checked one of the several choices? Or is it the Foxit and Adobe Readers that govern the screen size of the PDF files, and not Javascript? Thanks for any help and pointing me in the right direction. <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xml:lang="en" lang="en"> <head> <title>Open smaller PDF window.html</title> <script type="text/javascript"> function goToCheckedValue ( rbs ) //courtesy of Old Pedant { var go = null; if (rbs.length == null ) { if (rbs.checked ) go = rbs.value; } else { for (var r = 0; r < rbs.length; ++r ) { if (rbs[r].checked ) go = rbs [r].value; } } if ( go == null ) return; location.href = go; } var detailsWindow; function showDetails() { //leave filename parameter blank detailsWindow = window.open("","", "width=500,height=350"); detailsWindow.focus(); } </script> </head> <body> <form name="myForm"> <fieldset id="pdfchoices"> <input type="radio" name="gmplitword" value="11.pdf" checked="checked" /> Gospel Acclamation <br /> <input type="radio" name="gmplitword" value="15.pdf" /> Gospel Acclamation - Lent <br /> <input type="radio" name="gmplitword" value="16.pdf" /> Gospel Acclamation - Paschal time <br /> <input type="radio" name="gmplitword" value="23.pdf" /> Apostles' Creed (IV) <br /> <br /> <input type="button" value="Open PDF file" onclick="goToCheckedValue(this.form.gmplitword)" /> </fieldset> </form> </body> </html> Hi - noob here. I'm trying to set the value of a radio button in an html page when another radio button on the same page is checked. I want to use an external javascript file rather than inline script. My html is: Code: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" /> <title>Pin config</title> <link type="text/javascript" href="scripts/pinRadioBtns.js" /> </head> <body> <form name="preset"> <input type="radio" name="preset" value="option1" onclick="javascript: setBtns();" />Option 1 <input type="radio" name="preset" value="option2" />Option 2 </form> <form name="pin4"> <input type="radio" name="pin4" id="pin4btn1" value="GPIO0" />GPIO0 <br /> <input type="radio" name="pin4" id="pin4btn2" value="nSPI_ADDR0" />nSPI_ADDR0 </form> </body> and my javascript file (which lives in a 'scripts' folder 1 level lower than the html) Code: function setBtns () { document.pin4.pin4btn1.checked = true; document.pin4.pin4btn2.checked = false; } so when the Option 1 radio button in the top form is clicked, I want to check the pin4btn1 radio button in the second form. currently when I preview the html (I'm using expression web) and click the option 1 radio button, nothing happens. maybe I'm referencing the 2nd radio button incorrectly..? any tips much appreciated... Hello everyone. I'm new to programming, although I've learned HTML and CSS pretty thoroughly. I think I have most of the Javascript basics down as far as definitions, but I'm getting hung up on the actual coding. I'm working on an information request form for my fiancee's business site. In it, I want to have options that users select via radio buttons. Rather than having additional input fields static on the page, I would like to program some of the radios, when clicked, to open a previously unseen option where users will then be able to type in the necessary information. More specifically, since she only works in two states, I want a third option of "other," which, when opened, will allow the user to input any other state. Then, should the radio be deselected or reset, the field would disappear again. If my understanding is correct, I think I will need to use a javascript function in the header, an HTML "div" section with ID, "onclick" and "offclick" events in the button mark-up, and the specific javascript code to call the function (getElementById?). Or maybe I'm way off. Please help. Thanks I have 4 rows in a table. Each row consist of 4 radio buttons. Each radio button per row has different values in it but has the same name (group) ex: <input type="radio" name="a" value="1"> <input type="radio" name="a" value="2"> <input type="radio" name="a" value="3"> <input type="radio" name="a" value="4"> <input type="radio" name="b" value="1"> <input type="radio" name="b" value="2"> <input type="radio" name="b" value="3"> <input type="radio" name="b" value="4"> and so on.. If I click radio button A with value 2, I want to output the total at the bottom as "2".. Also, if I click radio button B with value 3, I want to output the total of A and B as 5 and so on.. How can I automatically calculate the answer based on which radio button was click? update: I got my answer from this site: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1...s-using-jquery All: I need some help with a radio button code. It seems simple but I am really new at JavaScript so I need help. I have created a JavaScript code that has three radio buttons (High, Medium, and Low). When you click on high two text boxes appear so that an email address can be added. What I need help with is making the text boxes disappear if someone accidentally click high and then went back to low or medium. Currently the High button stays clicked and the text boxes still show. Any help would be great. Thanks, Stephen Code: <script type="text/javascript"> function showHide(el){ obj = document.getElementById(el).style; (obj.display == 'none')? obj.display = 'block' : obj.display = 'none'; } </script> <form id="form1" name="form1" method="post" action=""> <label> <input type="Checkbox" name="High" value="High" onclick="showHide('group1')" /> High </label> <label> <input type="Checkbox" name="Medium" value="Button" /> Mediun </label> <label> <input type="Checkbox" name="Medium" value="Button" /> Low </label> <p id="group1" style="display: none;"> <label> <b>friend1  </b><input type="Text" name="textGroup1" value="@gmail.com" /> <br/> </label> <br /> <label> <b>friend2  </b><input type="text" name="textGroup1" value="@gmail.com" /> </label> </p> </form> I don't exactly know how to word my issue. Basically, I need it so that if a user selects 'option1' in the group 'group1' when they go to 'group2' is only gives them a certain selection to choose from. If they choose 'option2' in 'group1' they will get a different set to choose from. My main dilemma is it must do this without them having to submit. All, I have the following code: Code: <form action="" name="myform" method="post"> <input type="hidden" id="picimages" name="picimages" value="<?php echo $resultsetstory['bigger_id']; ?>" /> <p> <label> <input type="radio" id="picimages" name="picimages" value="<?php echo $resultsetstory['picture_id']; ?>" /> <?php if($resultsetstory['title']<>""){ echo $resultsetstory['title']; }else{ echo "Image 1"; } ?> </label> <br /> <label> <input type="radio" id="picimages" name="picimages" value="<?php echo $resultsetpic2['picture_id']; ?>" /> <?php if($resultsetpic2['title']<>""){ echo $resultsetpic2['title']; }else{ echo "Image 2"; } ?> </label> <br /> <input name="submit" type="button" value="Vote!" onclick="javascript:voteupdate(this.myform);"/> </p> </form> When I submit this, it goes to this function: Code: function voteupdate(obj) { var poststr = "picimage=" + document.getElementById("picimage").value + "&bigger_id=" + encodeURI( document.getElementById("bigger_id").value ); alert(poststr); makePOSTRequest('voteresults.php', poststr); } However I can't get the value of the radio group for the one that is selected. Can someone see what is wrong? Thanks. How can I style the background of a radio button? I have a form where it validates the users has selected one of the radio group values. If they don't the group gets focus and I would like to highlight the radio group. I tried the below it it seems focus goes to the correct group but no background changes. Now I know you can change the background of radios and apply a border of you would like. What am I doing wrong woth this. Code: <script type="text/javascript"> function validate(){ document.forms[0].myradio[0].checked = true document.forms[0].myradio[0].style.border='2px dotted #00f'; document.forms[0].myradio[0].style.backgroundColor='#ffff99'; } </script> <form name="test" name="theForm" onsubmit="validate()"> <input type="radio" name="myradio" /> <input type="radio" name="myradio" /> <input type="radio" name="myradio" /> <BR> <BR> <BR> <BR> <input type="radio" name="myradio2" /> <input type="radio" name="myradio2" /> <input type="radio" name="myradio2" /> <BR> <BR> <BR> <BR> <BR> <BR> <BR> <BR> <input type="radio" name="myradio3" /> <input type="radio" name="myradio3" /> <input type="radio" name="myradio3" /> <BR> <BR> <BR> <BR> <BR> <BR> <BR> <BR> <BR> <BR> <BR> <BR> <input type="radio" name="myradio4" /> <input type="radio" name="myradio4" /> <input type="radio" name="myradio4" /> <BR> <BR> <BR> <BR> <BR> <BR> <BR> <BR> <BR> <BR> <BR> <BR> <input type="radio" name="myradio5" /> <input type="radio" name="myradio5" /> <input type="radio" name="myradio5" /> <BR> <BR> <BR> <BR> <BR> <BR> <BR> <BR> <BR> <BR> <BR> <BR> <input type="radio" name="myradio6" /> <input type="radio" name="myradio6" /> <input type="radio" name="myradio6" /> <BR> <BR> <BR> <BR> <BR> <BR> <BR> <BR> <BR> <BR> <BR> <BR> <input type="submit" value="submit" name="submit"> </form> hi guys im trying to check whether a radio button is checked when i click it, but the javascript onlick event is not acting cool! when i click an unselected radio button i am informed that the unselected radio button i just clicked is in fact checked, when i should be getting the information the no, the radio button was not checked when i clicked it. any idea how to get the previous state of a radio button onclick? Hello I am very new to Java Script. I am working on a website which requires me to use it. The site is selling items that are priced depending on the size. There are 6 fixed sizes for the width and the length can come in any size 1 through 200. So that will be user input on the length and radio buttons on the width. I am trying to have the user put in the length and click a radio button for width and then calculate the price by multiplying them. I am trying to get 1 price to display right now just to test it but I can't figure out why it isn't working. Again I am fairly new at this so there might be multiple problems with my code. Thanks in advance for the help. Thanks, ~Wayne Hello, I have a form which can be saved (using a database) and later edited. When restoring data to the form , text fields are easy. There is a simple (existing) JavaScript which restores an option that was selected from a pull-down (select one) menu: Code: for (var q=0;q<document.Simple.Color.options.length;q++) { if (document.Simple.Color.options[q].value == document.Restored.Color.value) { document.Simple.Color.options[q]. selected = true; break; } I'm trying to make it work to restore a value to a radio button as well... but no luck: Code: for (var q=0;q<document.Simple.Color.options.length;q++) { if (document.Simple.Color.options[q].value == document.Restored.Color.value) { document.Simple.Color.options[q]. checked = true; break; } Any ideas? Thanks in advance. ~Wayne |
