JavaScript - Alternate Of Activex Control

Hi,
I am currently detecting for Shockwave within IE by doing the following:

This works as expected and if it fails to detect Shockwave I tell the user to install Shockwave.
The problem comes when AcitveX is disabled as it still returns the same message that it's not installed. I would prefer to be able to include an extra step to detect if ActiveX is disabled, in which case I can tell the user to enable it rather than giving them false advice.

My only idea would be to detect for an ActiveX Object that every IE user should have installed.

Any ideas on what that ActiveX Object could be or any ideas on how I could tackle this problem are greatly appreciated.

I'm using an ActiveX control in my html page.. Each time i load the page ie pops a message box to allow the activex to run or not . Is there any way to handle that message box using javascript. Or is there any other way to avoid that message box because each time the page loads i have to give yes and then proceed. By default i've to give yes is there any way to handle that using javascript.

As you can see, a new workbook is created and the data is exported to Excel ("Sheet1").
What I want to do is as soon as this export is complete, redirect to a seperate page, where the Jobs (linked to the Project) details are exported to Excel ("Sheet2"), without creating a new workbook.
Is this do-able?

I have a program written in Javascript (saved as an HTML file that I run from my desktop by launching it in IE) which works fine on my system. Running IE 8 in Vista on one system and XP on another.

When I launch the file, I get warning in the information bar: "To help protect your security, Internet Explorer has restricted this webpage from running scripts or ActiveX cntrols that could access your computer. Click here for optons..."

I actually WANT this warning. When I click through it to accept, the program works fine.

But about half of the people that I share this program with are not getting this warning, and it appears that the javascript never runs. At first I thought it was something in Windows 7, because two of the users were running on that OS, and I've found a number of issues described online about having problems running scripts in IE8/Win7.

But the latest user is also running Vista, like me. His security settings are set to the default, Medium-High. But he's still not getting the script/ActiveX warning in the message bar.


Anyone know how we can enable that warning?

I have an html file I've built with embedded Javascript (using ActiveX) that successfully reads a file on my local hard drive when I run the html file through my web browser (IE) locally. However, when I copy the html page up to a webserver and access it through the internet, it doesn't appear to be reading the local file. I'm assuming this can't be done because of security reasons? Am I correct in that? Is there any way using Javascript/ActiveX that you can get a webpage on the internet to access a file on the visitor's local drive? (other than cookies)

I have a Javascript ActiveX function that exports the contents of an HTML table into MS Excel. The script works fine, however, some of the dates have changed from dd/mm/yyyy to mm/dd/yyyy. I do not know why this is happening, especially as it's only to a few.

Hello All,

I found lightbox to be very useful for certain things, however I was hoping someone could help me out with the code or point me to a tutorial that could do what I am looking for.

Similar to lightbox (http://lokeshdhakar.com/projects/lightbox2/) how you can click on an image to open a separate window to display a slideshow, however with lightbox you need to display all images that are included in the slideshow, i.e. thumbnails.

I was hoping to find a way to do something similar but without having to display all the images as thumbnails. I want to display only one picture which the user can click on that will open a new window and display a slideshow with multiple images.

If this possible? Can someone help me out with this?

Any tips or tricks or tutorials that can be shared with me I would greatly greatly appreciate it.

Hi there,

I'm working with leaflet.js to create a web map which is working well so far however I've run into a rookie js problem.

I have a js fiddle which shows my code here.

The problem I have is that I need convert a string like "polygon" to polygon without the quotation marks. According to the Leaflet API, removeLayer takes an iLayer parameter eg removeLayer( <ILayer> layer ). Currently I'm passing it a string which I feed through eval, I gather is less than ideal.

There is a post here on stack overflow but I can't make any sense of the answer unfortunately.

If anyone can provide any advice it would be greatly appreciated.

if you add Code:

window.circle=circle;
window.marker=marker;
window.polygon=polygon;

then you can use syntax like layerClicked = window[event.target.value]; instead of eval.

you can use a different object than window, as long as it's global and consistent.

Is there away to alternate DIV rows in a specific section. When I try to alternate the DIVs it alternates everything that is a DIV on the page. I want to just alternate a DIV table.

Is this possible?

I've gotten accustomed to using coda slider 2.0 to do some cool interactive sliding elements on my pages. However, i need something similar that will fade instead of slide. I've searched all over their home forums and it seems like no one there has an answer for how to implement the change in the current codaslider infrastructure. I need something that has all the functionality of coda slider (easy transitions, div's containing lots of content- both images and text, forward/back buttons, autoplay) but with a fade transitions

I am trying to create a form which when the submit button is selected will open a new window with 1 of 4 URLs based on the the combination of data in 2 select boxes.

For example:

if select box 1 = a and select box 2 = a then open new window with URL 1
if select box 1 = a and select box 2 = b then open new window with URL 2
if select box 1 = b and select box 2 = a then open new window with URL 3
if select box 1 = b and select box 2 = b then open new window with URL 4

I have a quiz embedded on my site that originates elsewhere (QuizRevolution.com) and is embedded on my site via a link (plus some other code), part of that code being in an iframe. The quiz contains YouTube videos that, because of how the quiz is set up by QuizRevolution, will not play in browsers/devices without Flash (for example, the iPad).

What I would like to do is put some script on my site that will load a SECOND quiz from QuizRevolution (this one without video) for browsers/devices without Flash. This second quiz will substitute for the first one.

Does anyone know how to do this? The tricky part seems to be how I have embedded the quiz in my site, so I have included that part of the page he Code:
