JavaScript - A Dynamic Math Problem
Hi. I'm in JS kindergarten.
I have a form with a field that asks for a full year. If the year is greater than 20 years ago, I'd like additional form fields to be revealed. If the year is equal to or less than 20 years ago, it will not reveal the fields. (And it should be based on getFullYear(), so I don't have to update the script every year, yeah?) I figured out how to script onclick functions and some basic .value == functions in order to show/hide just about every type of form field. So I don't need that info. But I'm unsure of how to calculate the value. I'd be interested to see your solutions. No rush. Thanks in advance. Similar TutorialsEither I made an uh-oh, or there is a serious problem with Javscripts math functions. Math.sin(x) returns the sine of x in radians. Last time I checked, the sine of pi radians is 0, but in javascript: Code: Math.sin(Math.PI) // returns 1.2246467991473532e-16 Any idea why? Julian i have a script which i found on the internet. i modify that script according to my needs. what is in that script is there are three form fields with two buttons. one button is "Give me more fields" clicking on this button will give you more fields. and second button is submit so the data goes to server side and will be added to db. the problem is when i click give me more fields it gives me three more fields which is right but when i fill all these fields and click submit button it adds to the db but the data in the first three fields adds in the one row and the other three fields data adds in separate row which is not fine for me. so how can i do this so all the data will be added to only one row. here is js code Code: var counter = 0; //Start a counter. Yes, at 0 function add_phone() { counter++; // I find it easier to start the incrementing of the counter here. var newFields = document.getElementById('addQualification').cloneNode(true); newFields.id = ''; newFields.style.display = 'block'; var newField = newFields.childNodes; for (var i=0;i<newField.length;i++) { var theName = newField[i].name if (theName) newField[i].name = theName + counter; // This will change the 'name' field by adding an auto incrementing number at the end. This is important. } var insertHere = document.getElementById('addQualification'); // Inside the getElementById brackets is the name of the div class you will use. insertHere.parentNode.insertBefore(newFields,insertHere); } here is my form Code: <form name="addAQualification" action="<?php echo $_SERVER['PHP_SELF']; ?>" method="post" enctype="multipart/form-data"> <fieldset> <div id="phone"> Degree: <input type="text" name="degree_0" value="" /><br> CGPA/Grade: <input type="text" name="cgpa_0" value="" /><br> Institute: <input type="text" name="institute_0" value="" /><br> </div> <div id="addQualification" style="display: none;"> Degree: <input type="text" name="degree_" value="" /><br> CGPA/Grade: <input type="text" name="cgpa_" value="" /><br> Institute: <input type="text" name="institute_" value="" /><br> </div> <input type="button" id="add_phone()" onclick="add_phone()" value="Give me more fields!" /><br> <input type="submit" name="submit" value="submit" /> </fieldset> </form> here is my php Code: <?php if(isset($_POST['submit'])) //This checks to make sure submit was clicked { echo "You clicked submit!<br>"; echo "Here is your data<br>"; echo "<br>"; if ($_POST['cgpa_0']) //This checks that the proper field has data { $continue = FALSE; $i = 0; while ($continue == FALSE) { if (isset($_POST['degree_'.$i])) //This looks for an entry after 0 and increments { echo $_POST['degree_'.$i] . " = " . $_POST['cgpa_'.$i] . "<br>"; //Echoing the data $degree1 = $_POST['degree_'.$i]; $cgpa1 = $_POST['cgpa_'.$i]; $institute1 = $_POST['institute_'.$i]; $db = mysql_connect("localhost"); mysql_select_db("test", $db); $query = "INSERT INTO cv ( degree1, cgpa1, institute1 ) VALUES ( '$degree1', '$cgpa1', '$institute1' )"; $result = mysql_query($query); //The four lines above is the example on how the data would be put into a MySQL database. It's not used here } else { $continue = TRUE; } $i++; } } } ?> Hello there, new to this forum and starting with a quick question. Normaly I can figure things out myself but I'm a bit stuck on this one. I have two scripts. one is for TinyMCE (WYZIWYG editor): Code: tinyMCE.init({ mode : "textareas", theme : "advanced", plugins : "pagebreak, style, layer, table, save, advhr, advimage, advlink, emotions, iespell, inlinepopups, insertdatetime, preview, media, searchreplace, print, contextmenu, paste, directionality, fullscreen, noneditable, visualchars, nonbreaking, xhtmlxtras, template", // Theme options - button# indicated the row# only theme_advanced_buttons1 : "newdocument, save,|,styleprops, del, ins, attribs,|,visualaid, visualchars, template, pagebreak,|,preview, cleanup, code, print,|,|,help, fullscreen", theme_advanced_buttons2 : "insertlayer, absolute, moveforward, movebackward,|,tablecontrols,|,hr,advhr,,charmapemotions, iespell, media, ltr, rtl, anchor, image, nonbreaking,|,insertdate, inserttime", theme_advanced_buttons3 : "bold, italic, underline, strikethrough,|,outdent, indent,|,bullist, numlist,|,sub, sup,|,styleselect, formatselect, fontselect, fontsizeselect", theme_advanced_buttons4 : "undo, redo,|,cut, copy, paste,|,pastetext, pasteword,|,search, replace,|,forecolor, backcolor,|,justifyleft, justifycenter, justifyright, justifyfull,|,blockquote, cite,|,abbr, acronym,|,link, unlink,|,removeformat", content_css : '/CSS/TinyMCE.css', theme_advanced_styles : "Test style=header1;", theme_advanced_toolbar_location : "top", theme_advanced_toolbar_align : "left", theme_advanced_statusbar_location : "bottom", theme_advanced_resizing : true, }); function setup() { tinyMCE.init({ mode : "textareas", theme : "advanced", plugins : "pagebreak, style, layer, table, save, advhr, advimage, advlink, emotions, iespell, inlinepopups, insertdatetime, preview, media, searchreplace, print, contextmenu, paste, directionality, fullscreen, noneditable, visualchars, nonbreaking, xhtmlxtras, template", // Theme options - button# indicated the row# only theme_advanced_buttons1 : "newdocument, save,|,styleprops, del, ins, attribs,|,visualaid, visualchars, template, pagebreak,|,preview, cleanup, code, print,|,|,help, fullscreen", theme_advanced_buttons2 : "insertlayer, absolute, moveforward, movebackward,|,tablecontrols,|,hr,advhr,,charmapemotions, iespell, media, ltr, rtl, anchor, image, nonbreaking,|,insertdate, inserttime", theme_advanced_buttons3 : "bold, italic, underline, strikethrough,|,outdent, indent,|,bullist, numlist,|,sub, sup,|,styleselect, formatselect, fontselect, fontsizeselect", theme_advanced_buttons4 : "undo, redo,|,cut, copy, paste,|,pastetext, pasteword,|,search, replace,|,forecolor, backcolor,|,justifyleft, justifycenter, justifyright, justifyfull,|,blockquote, cite,|,abbr, acronym,|,link, unlink,|,removeformat", content_css : '/CSS/TinyMCE.css', theme_advanced_styles : "Test style=header1;", theme_advanced_toolbar_location : "top", theme_advanced_toolbar_align : "left", theme_advanced_statusbar_location : "bottom", theme_advanced_resizing : true, }); } first part loads tinymce when it's there on the page, second part loads it when a button is pushed. second script is for loading filecontent into a div: Code: function load_this(url) { if (window.XMLHttpRequest) { // Non-IE browsers req = new XMLHttpRequest(); req.onreadystatechange = targetDiv; try { req.open("GET", url, true); } catch (e) { alert(e); } req.send(null); } else if (window.ActiveXObject) { // IE req = new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP"); if (req) { req.onreadystatechange = targetDiv; req.open("GET", url, true); req.send(); } } } function targetDiv() { if (req.readyState == 4) { // Complete if (req.status == 200) { // OK response document.getElementById("main").innerHTML = req.responseText; } else { alert("Problem: " + req.statusText); } } } now the problem: I have this page with div 'main'. an url loads this script, but after loading the dynamic content into the div, the setup() script isn't working: Code: function load_editor(url) { load_this(url); setup(); } where url=editor.php. The funny thing is: when I click the button to load the content into the div, the textarea (from editor.php) loads, but the javascript function to start tinymce isn't working! This is probably because right after loading the div with 'editor.php' the setup() script doens't recognise the freshly loaded content. However, when I place a link in 'editor.php' which calls javascript:setup(); and click it after loading the content, setup() does work. my question: How can I make it so, that, when I press a link or button to load the editor.php into a div, the setup() script recognises the fresh code and starts the WYSIWYG editor? Do I have to use state ready or something? And ifso, how do I do this? Or is there some other way I can do this? Kind regards and many thanks for your help! Kevin Hello, Could you pls tell me how to remove created element here by clicking "remove" button. I coulnt write anything I mean I tried something but couldnt manage. //document.getElementById(elementId).removeChild(newdiv); and could you also tell me how to collect datas in "myInputs[]2" text fields. I mean I need to calculate sum of all "myInputs[]2" text s values. Code: <script type="text/javascript"> var newdiv = document.createElement('div'); var count = 1; var limit = 10; function add(divName){ if (sayac == limit) { alert("Message"); } else { newdiv.innerHTML = "Halı " + (sayac + 1) + " <br>\n\ <input type='text' name='myInputs[]'>m2\n\ <select id='selBidReceivedIsPM' name='selBidReceivedIsPM'>" + "<option value='3'>Mad</option>" + "<option value='5'>Is</option></select>\t\<input type='text' name='myInputs[]2'>"; document.getElementById(divName).appendChild(newdiv); //document.getElementById(elementId).appendChild(slt); ++count; } } function remove(){ } </script> <div id="dynamicInput"> Halı 1<br><input type="text" name="myInputs[]">m2 <select id="slt"> <option value="3">Mad</option> <option value="5">Is</option> </select> <input type="text" name="myInputs[]2"> <input type="button" value="Add" onClick="add('dynamicInput');"> <input type="button" value="Remove" onClick="remove()"> </div> Hello, I've a checkbox validation script to check for at least one ckeck. Code: <script type="text/javascript"> function chkChecks(){ isChecked=false alert(document.forms["form1"]["checked[]"].length); for(var i=0;i<document.forms["form1"]["checked[]"].length;i++){ if(document.forms["form1"]["checked[]"][i].checked){ isChecked=true } } if(isChecked){ document.forms["form1"].submit() } else{ alert('Please select a checkbox') } } </script> for the form Code: <form name="form1" action="test.php"> <input type="checkbox" name="checked[]" value="1"> <input type="checkbox" name="checked[]" value="2"> <input type="checkbox" name="checked[]" value="3"> <input class="button_140" type="button" value="Check" onclick="chkChecks()"> </form> It works well for more than one checkboxes, but these are generated dynamically by PHP and if there is only one checkbox, document.forms["form1"]["checked[]"].length returns 'undefined'. Can I modify this to work in all cases? thanks, art. Hello all! As it could not be otherwise, in my first post here, I have a horribly simple problem... I'm currently working on a homepage for my browser, where I have many frequently used links, and I'm trying to implement some search engines too. The one I'm working on is simply, a predefined URL, and the input text string at the end. For example: "http://www.example.com/search/(textinput)" This is the code I have so far: Code: <script type="text/javascript"> function gosearch() { var srchstring = document.getElementById('string').value; var resulturl = 'http://www.example.com/search/' + srchstring; window.location.href = resulturl; } </script> <form name="searchform" onsubmit="gosearch();"> <input id="string" size="31" maxlength="255" value="" /> <input type="submit" value="Search!" /> </form> But what happens by using this code, is that, to the current URL, a "?" gets added, as if the code tried to send some info using GET. I could do this quite easily using PHP, but as I want to use this locally, I cannot use any server-side code... Besides the fact that I want to learn some JScript too. Thanks for your help. have created dynamic table with two columns for ex:first column is Income column and second column is tax from Income at the third column are different percent options for ex. I wrote first column 1000 and chose from third drop down box 10% I would like when i chose 10% sum function automatically writes 10% percent of 1000 into second column so that 100 here is code if possible pls help me i really need this code and i bellieve that this code is useful both me and other users thanks beforehand here si code Code: <html><head><title>dinamik sheet</title> <script> function addrow(){ var tbl=document.getElementById('sheet'); var lastrow=tbl.rows.length; var iteration=lastrow; var row=tbl.insertRow(lastrow); var cellLeft=row.insertCell(0); var textNode=document.createTextNode(iteration); cellLeft.appendChild(textNode); var cellRight=row.insertCell(1); var el=document.createElement('input'); el.type='text'; el.name='txtRow'+iteration; el.size=40; el.setAttribute('sumMe',"1"); el.onBlur=sum; cellRight.appendChild(el); var cellRight2=row.insertCell(2); var el1=document.createElement('input'); el1.type='text'; el1.name='txtRowe'+iteration; el1.id='txtRowe'+iteration; el1.size=40; el1.setAttribute('sumMe',"1"); cellRight2.appendChild(el1); var cellRightsel=row.insertCell(3); var sel=document.createElement('select'); sel.name='selRow'+iteration; sel.options[0]=new Option('10%','value="10"'); sel.options[1]=new Option('20%','value="20"'); sel.options[2]=new Option('30%','value="30"'); cellRightsel.appendChild(sel); var cellRightsel2=row.insertCell(4); } </script> <script> function sum(){ var form=document.getElementById('eval_edit'); if(!form) return; var s1 = 0; var s2 = 0; var tbl=document.getElementById('sheet'); var iteration=tbl.rows.length-1; for(var i=1; i<=iteration; i++){ var el = form['txtRow'+i]; if(!el) continue; var txt = el.value; if(txt != ( '' + Number(txt) )) continue;//reject non-numeric entries var el2 = form['selRow'+i]; var el3 = document.getElementById('txtRowe'+i); if(!el2 || !el3) alert('Error in calculating totals'); var percent = Number(el2[el2.selectedIndex].value)/100; var tax = Number(txt) * percent; el3.innerHTML = tax.toFixed(2); s1 += Number(txt); s2 += tax; } if(form['total']){ form['total'].value = s1.toFixed(2); } if(form['taxtotal']){ form['taxtotal'].value = s2.toFixed(2); } } onload = function(){ sum(); } </script> </head> <body> <form name="eval_edit" method="POST"> <table align="center" width="75%"> <tr> <td align="center">Balance sheet</td></tr> <tr><td align="center"> <table border="1" id="sheet"><tr><td>object</td><td>Income</td><td>Tax from income</td><td>instruktor</td></tr> <tr><td>1</td> <td><input sumMe="1" type="text" name="txtrow1" id="txtrow1" size="40"/></td><td><input sumMe="1" type="text" name="txtrowe" id="txtrowe" size="40"/></td> <td><select name="selRow0"> <option value="value="10">10%</option> <option value="value="20">20%</option> <option value="value="30">30%</option></select></td></tr></table> INCOME SUM<input name="total" type="text"/> <input type="button" value="Add" onclick="addrow()" /> <input type="button" value="Remove" onclick="removeRow()" /> <input type="button" value="SUM" onClick="sum()"/> <input type="submit" value="Submit" /> <input name="taxtotal" type="text"/>Tax SUM with desirable percent for ex: 20% </td> </tr> </table> </form> </body> </html> hi I have just took from internet dinamic table. this table is dynamic and its rows dynamically can be increased. it sum but not like integer for ex. in row1 i enter 20 and in row2 i enter 5 it sums like 205 but i need it sums like 25 if possible pls help me Thanks beforehand here is code Code: <html> <head> <title></title> <script type="text/javascript"> function addRow() { // grab the element, i.e. the table your editing, in this we're calling it // 'mySampleTable' and it is reffered to in the table further down on the page // with a unique of id of you guessed it, 'mySampleTable' var tbl = document.getElementById('mySampleTable'); // grab how many rows are in the table var lastRow = tbl.rows.length; // if there's no header row in the table (there should be, code at least one //manually!), then iteration = lastRow + 1 var iteration = lastRow; // creates a new row var row = tbl.insertRow(lastRow); // left cell // insert a cell var cellLeft = row.insertCell(0); // here we're just using numbering the cell, like anything else you don't // have to use this, but i've kinda noticed users tend to like them var textNode = document.createTextNode(iteration); // takes what we did (create the plain text number) and appends it the cell // we created in the row we created. For what i need that : i have my user inserting information on the level 1. let say Copagny info 2- then he will be asked if he wants to add a sub level information ( subform) for that compagny or even many subforms at the same level .. and so on... 3- those sub level ( subforms ) can also call their respective subforms.. Any idea how to design this ? thanks Just started to learn java & came up with the following, but can't get the math.round to work. I have the points and the correct method to fill everything but when the slice rotates I want to make the outer edge filled, but in order to do that I have to figure out what math I use to find the leading edge. I made a picture to hopefully explin what I need to find. I figure it might be the tangent but I was hoping someone smarter than I could send me in the right direction. I just need someone to help me pinpoint my next step. Right now the rendering uses start and end angles to first make the top and bottom sections, fills them and then it makes an arc along the top of the slice from start to end then from end to start on the bottom slice and completes the polygon by going back the first point in the arc. I need to make two separate polygons if the end or start are further from the center than the( tangent?) point. Need some advice. Hope someone has an idea. How can you add/substract two numbers in javascript if they are written out as words such as one|two|three|four|five|six|seven|eight|nine|ten. Code: if ((word[0].match(/one|two|three|4|five|six|seven|eight|nine|ten/)) && (word[1].match(/plus|add/)) && (word[2].match(/one|two|three|4|five|six|seven|eight|nine|ten/))) { document.result.result.value = "The answer is ?"; return true;} I'm a student learning javascript, I'm having a very basic problem. I have to write a script that outputs XHTML text that keeps displaying in the browser window that multiples of the integer 2, namely 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, etc. This is the code i have, Code: <!-- var product=2; while { product =2*product; } document.writeln( +product+ ); // --> And it pretty much does nothing. Help would be much appreciated Dave I can't wrap my head around this at the moment so with the hope of finding someone willing to take a stab I am posting this to all of you. I need to create a savings ticker that shows $ saved per second. The data is as follows then = date script is created now = current date std = savings to date in $ avg = average savings per second in $ It would need to calculate the difference in time between then and now, convert that to an integer that can then be multiplied by avg then std would be added. thanks in advance hey. im working on a facebook app.. this is what i got so far. PHP Code: <script language="JavaScript"> <!-- var theImages = new Array() theImages[0] = "http://img688.imageshack.us/img688/4787/logo1tq.jpg" theImages[1] = "http://img641.imageshack.us/img641/8292/logo2yex.jpg" theImages[2] = "http://img864.imageshack.us/img864/4097/logo3ik.jpg" theImages[3] = "http://img543.imageshack.us/img543/9046/logo4pu.jpg" theImages[4] = "http://img21.imageshack.us/img21/2567/logo5q.jpg" theImages[5] = "http://img842.imageshack.us/img842/696/logo6o.jpg" theImages[6] = "http://img85.imageshack.us/img85/7831/logo7k.jpg" var j = 0 var p = theImages.length; var preBuffer = new Array() for (i = 0; i < p; i++){ preBuffer[i] = new Image() preBuffer[i].src = theImages[i] } var whichImage = Math.round(Math.random()*(p-1)); function showImage(){ document.write('<img src="'+theImages[whichImage]+'">'); } //--> </script> <script language="JavaScript"> <!-- showImage(); //--> </script> now i want that the app posts the random image automaticlly to the useres timeline.. for example: if the random image is theImages [3] then it should post the image theimage [3] to the users timeline.. i see alot of facebook apps doing this.. thanks in advance I'm new to programming and can't figure out why this won't work: Code: print " var 1A == Math.sqrt(Math.pow(B,2) - Math.pow(C,2)); \n"; print " var 1B == Math.sqrt(Math.pow(A,2) + Math.pow((F + G),2)); \n"; print " var 1C == B + D; \n"; print " var 1D == C - B; \n"; print " var 1E == E; \n"; print " var 1F == (Math.sqrt(Math.pow(C,2) - Math.pow(A,2)) - G); \n"; print " var 1G == (Math.sqrt(Math.pow(C,2) + Math.pow(A,2)) - F); \n"; print " var 1H == ((F + G) / B); \n"; I have tried debugging it using Firebug and I get this error: Quote: identifier starts immediately after numeric literal I get the error on the line with var 1A, but I'm pretty sure that 1B, 1F, and 1G would all have the same error. Thanks for the help in advance guys! BTW the reason why the code is being printed is because I'm programming with Perl and running on a webpage using html and javascript. i had to create a function to calculate percentage and round to integer need 2 parameters of item and sum function will return value of item variable divide the sum by 100 and round to nearest integer using Math.round this is my code that i came up with Code: function calcPercent(item, sum){ // script element to calculate the percentage which is rounded to the nearest integer var items = Math.round( (item/sum)*100); // script element to get the percentage return items; } calcPercent(1, 3); Does this make sense? thanks Hi. I am new to javascript programming so please go easy on me. I am creating a site for a flooring store and need to include a price calculator/estimator. What I need to do is allow the visitor to input the room size (length x width) and choose a flooring material from a pulldown list, and receive a price. The pulldown list would have flooring materials such as carpet, tile, wood, etc and each of these would have a fixed dollar amount associated with them (which would be hidden). So basically it is just a script that would multiply 3 numbers, with two of the numbers being input by the visitor, and th tird being selected from the pulldown. Can someone please educate me on how to do this? |
