Hello all, I am new to javascript and I have run into a problem. I cant seem to be able to write to a text file called users.txt
Here is my code: Code: <html> <head> <script language="javascript"> function rf() { var fs,file; fs = new ActiveXObject('Scripting.FileSystemObject'); file = fs.OpenTextFile('C:/Users/Imran/Documents/Imran IT/Web/Test/user.txt',2); file.Write('The text to write to file'); file.Close(); } </script> </head> <body onLoad="rf();"> </body> </html> What I do is I put the code in notepad, I then save it as a .html file and try run it in IE 7, google chrome and firefox, Each time users.txt is unchanged. Any help appreciated. All I want is for the client to send a variable to the server and for that variable to be saved in a .txt file. If there is another way to do that, please share Similar TutorialsHello everyone! Recently I found a nice pop up javascript code and I had no problem editing the HTML part, but I have no knowledge in javascript. So what I would like to do is to make the pop up show every 24 hours when a visitor votes.I read somewhere that this will involve cookies but as I said I couldnt get it working. I believe that the fix should be somewhere on input tag inside OnClick, or do you know where? Anyway, I found this on the net http://p2p.wrox.com/php-faqs/11606-q...avascript.html Please help me to those who can... I'm almost positive this question will make you groan "neewwwbie!".... I have a simple javascript that decides which 'div' to make visible, based on another element within the html. What i want now is to create a page where someone can view all the possible divs in that javascript that might appear and edit them (including href's, ital, bold and image tags.) Much like a CMS system, but the information is within a javascript, not a database. I would assume it's possible. What's a good way to approach this? It sounds like Javascript cannot edit .txt files. Is there a way to have the user access and edit an .xml file and just pull that into the div tag, instead of text? I'm using some free javascript for my website and I'm trying to edit it slightly to behave the way I want on my site. Right now it works fine apart from one thing... It remembers the last active div that was open... then when you visit the site again or refresh the page... that div stays open and doesn't close when toggling the other animated divs like it is supposed to. How would I remove the last active div function or get it to close again when toggling other animated divs.. Thanks so much if you can help Here is the site: www.gjoob.terryarchonship.com here is where the last active div java is Code: showhide:function(divid, action){ var $divref=this.divholders[divid].$divref //reference collapsible DIV if (this.divholders[divid] && $divref.length==1){ //if DIV exists var targetgroup=this.divgroups[$divref.attr('groupname')] //find out which group DIV belongs to (if any) if ($divref.attr('groupname') && targetgroup.count>1 && (action=="show" || action=="toggle" && $divref.css('display')=='none')){ //If current DIV belongs to a group if (targetgroup.lastactivedivid && targetgroup.lastactivedivid!=divid) //if last active DIV is set this.slideengine(targetgroup.lastactivedivid, 'hide') //hide last active DIV within group first this.slideengine(divid, 'show') targetgroup.lastactivedivid=divid //remember last active DIV } else{ this.slideengine(divid, action) } } } here is the entire javascript: Code: var animatedcollapse={ divholders: {}, //structu {div.id, div.attrs, div.$divref, div.$togglerimage} divgroups: {}, //structu {groupname.count, groupname.lastactivedivid} lastactiveingroup: {}, //structu {lastactivediv.id} preloadimages: [], show:function(divids){ //public method if (typeof divids=="object"){ for (var i=0; i<divids.length; i++) this.showhide(divids[i], "show") } else this.showhide(divids, "show") }, hide:function(divids){ //public method if (typeof divids=="object"){ for (var i=0; i<divids.length; i++) this.showhide(divids[i], "hide") } else this.showhide(divids, "hide") }, toggle:function(divid){ //public method if (typeof divid=="object") divid=divid[0] this.showhide(divid, "toggle") }, addDiv:function(divid, attrstring){ //public function this.divholders[divid]=({id: divid, $divref: null, attrs: attrstring}) this.divholders[divid].getAttr=function(name){ //assign getAttr() function to each divholder object var attr=new RegExp(name+"=([^,]+)", "i") //get name/value config pair (ie: width=400px,) return (attr.test(this.attrs) && parseInt(RegExp.$1)!=0)? I also have a shared JavaScript library which uses the variables in gameSetting.js, which I include like so: <script type="text/javascript" src="gameSetting.js" ></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="gameLibrary.js" ></script> In gameSetting.js I have: $(document).ready(function() { // call some functions / classes in gameLibrary.js } in Firefox, Safari, and Chrome, this works fine. However, in IE, when it's parsing gameSetting.js, it complains that the functions that live in gameLibrary.js aren't defined. When it gets to parsing gameLibrary.js, the variables in gameSetting.js are reported as not being defined. I've tried dynamically bootstrapping the gameLibrary file using this function in document.ready for dynamic load... $.getScript("gameLibrary.js"); However, the same problem still happens in IE, where when it parses the files individually it's not taking into context the file/variables that came before, so it's not an out of load order problem. My options a 1) collapsing all the functions in gameLibrary.js and variables in gameSetting.js into one file. However, this is not practical because this is dealing with literally hundreds of games, and having a gameLibrary.js in ONE location for ONE update is what makes most logical sense. 2) figure out a way to get this to work where variables in file1 are accessible to file2 in IE (as it seems they are in other browsers). jQuery seems to be able to have multiple plugins that all refer to the based jQuery-1.3.2.js, so I know there is a way to get this to work. Help appreciated. Nero I can get this code to take two separate sections of a file which are not beside each other and write them into another file. It always comes up as a single full line of the code instead of the sections I want. The code includes the student number first name last name and three results of assignments. I want the code to write the student number and three results of all the students into a file and then work out the average of the student results. Can you help? Dear All I have a .js file in which i have pasted Urdu text and HTML tags like function urdutext() { innerHTML.right_column='HTML tags & urdu text';} The .js file contains about eighty lines of urdu text and some HTML tags in betweeen. But when i run this file alone in my browser it displays half of the file and the rest of the lines remain undisplayed. and when i use this file in my web page and when i click a button to display the urdu text, it dispays nothing in my web page. I know the reason but i cant solve it my self. The reason is that the .js file does not get fully uploaded and hence the file remains open and the syntax become wrong. And that is the reason it does not display anything in the web page. So i want ut help. Any one can help and would take my best wishes. Regards Sajad Bhatt I have a page and i want the user to choose which background image he wants to set.So i want him/she to choose an image from a js file chooser dialog and set that image as background .Is that possible? thanks! I want to make an rpg with a username and password login without a database, I was thinking, maybe i could make it when the user presses "sign up" the webpage creates a new file in the same directory that stores all their information. I researched it and realised it wasn't cross browser compatible. Therefore I came up with an idea to store all the users' information in a array. What i want to do is that when the user presses "sign up" it adds that user to the array and the html file overwrites itself so the new user is saved into the array Any ideas? Is it possible to self source a javascript file? I have a file with code that opens a javascript window and document.writes to it. I want to run some code in this file attached to window.onload. Code: function someWindow() { var openedWindow = open(/* relevant vars */); openedWindow.document.write(/*doctype and html head markup*/) openedWindow.document.write("<script type=\"text/javascript\" src=\"(this file)\"></script>"); openedWindow.document.write("<script type=\"text/javascript\">window.onload = function(){ /* sourced code */}</script>") openedWindow.document.write(/*html body markup*/) openedWindow.document.close(); } then in the same file have code defining object constructors and such that attach events to various elements. I realize I can write a long string variable with all the code, but that would be visible a browser window -> view source window ( I know it won't hide the code in a separate source file) The object is to have a widget all in one file, rather than having a separate html, css file and another javascript code file. A line space would separate the quotes. Example: "Blah Blah" "Idk what blah" "sure you do" Would this be using Javascript to pull the quotes from the txt file for use in my page be best? I need it to pull all the quotes. Reason for having it like this, I am also planning on having a random quote page where it just pulls 1 quote instead of showing all of them. Code: <script type="text/javascript"> function getXmlHttpRequestObject() { if (window.XMLHttpRequest) { // code for IE7+, Firefox, Chrome, Opera, Safari return new XMLHttpRequest(); } if (window.ActiveXObject) { // code for IE6, IE5 return new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP"); } return null; } //Make variables for later use var lastMess = 0; var sendReq = getXmlHttpRequestObject(); var receiveReq = getXmlHttpRequestObject(); var mTimer; function getMessage() { if (receiveReq.readyState == 4 || receiveReq.readyState == 0) { //var url = "scripts/get_data.php?uid=<?=$_SESSION['uid']?>&m=" + lastMess + "&chat=1"; var url = "testXMLdoc.xml"; receiveReq.open("GET", url, true); receiveReq.onreadystatechange = manageMessage; receiveReq.send(null); lastMess++; } } function manageMessage() { if (receiveReq.readyState == 4) { var xmldoc = receiveReq.responseText; var chat_div = document.getElementById('chat'); var msg_nodes = xmldoc.getElementByTagName("message"); var n_msg = message_nodes.length; for (i = 0; i < n_msg; i++) { var sender_node = msg_node[i].getElementByTagName["sender"]; var receiver_node = msg_node[i].getElementByTagName["receiver"]; var time_node = msg_node[i].getElementByTagName["time"]; var text_node = msg_node[i].getElementByTagName["text"]; chat_div.innerHTML = "He <br />" + sender_node[0].firstChild.nodeValue + "<br />"; chat_div.innerHTML = reciever_node[0].firstChild.nodeValue + "<br />"; chat_div.innerHTML =time_node[0].firstChild.nodeValue + "<br />"; chat_div.innerHTML = text_node[0].firstChild.nodeValue + "<br />"; } } } </script> Also, I put a alert under the manageMessage() function before the IF statement and that gets displayed. This is the HTML & CSS I want to include in the JavaScript file: <a style="border-left: 1px solid white; padding: 5px" class=menu href="Index.html" title="Home"> Home</a><a class=menu href="menu1.html" title="Portfolio"> Portfolio</a><a class=menu href="menu2.html" title="About Us"> About Us</a><a class=menu href="menu3.html" title="Media"> Media</a><a class=menu href="menu4.html" title="Store"> Store</a><a class=menu href="menu5.html" title="Contact Us"> Contact Us</a> -If this isn't possible to do in JavaScript, then what language can I do it in? Thank you for reading. Hello I have encoded same javascript file with "Microsoft script encode" and accidentally deleted the original file. There is a way to convert the encoded file into the original version.. The form of the encoded file is : <script type="text/jscript.encode">#@~^..... Thank you and sorry for my bad english Can anyone give me the code for the following: Suppose there is a hyperlink for file downloading in a html document. If I click on the link a new pop up window will come up which will be in the form of a typical file download popup window and will ask me to either "open" or "save" or "cancel" or "more info" (just as it happens in a typical file download process where a file download popup is being thrown). Also my file(the file can be in any format---.doc,.pdf,.exe or whatever)resides in my local hard drive and when I click on the hyper link the file download popup will comeup and will give me the 4 options as mentioned above. It wont just display the content of the file to be opened in new popup window. It will explicitly give the 4 options for any type of file to be downloaded thru the hyperlink. This coding is to be done only and only with HTML and JAVASCRIPT . Can anyone help me by providing code for the above task. |
