JavaScript - Onclick Menu
I am currently working with a website that I would like the navigation buttons to change when clicked, but when another is clicked the previous is unclicked. If possible I would like to incorporate a rollover function that changes the image, and then when it is clicked the image stays. I am building a website with frames (not my idea) so when each of these buttons is clicked a frame is changed. I currently have everything setup with the frames and the graphics incorporated. I know how to do mousovers in css, but I'm not sure how to do it in javascript.
I just have a simple table with images in rows so it really won't do me much good to show my code. Any help would be appreciated! Similar Tutorialsi m very new to this thread so i will try to be as clear as possible i m try to create a website where i n have inserted a menu (this menu template i found online which is free.) Code: <div id="menu"> <ul class="menu"> <li><a href="#" class="parent"><span>Home</span></a> <li><a href="#"><span>Cities</span></a> <div><ul> <li><a href="#"><span>Pune</span></a></li> <li><a href="#"><span>Mumbai</span></a></li> <li><a href="#"><span>Delhi</span></a></li> <li><a href="#"><span>Madras</span></a></li> </ul></div> </li> <li><a href="#"><span>Login</span></a></li> <li><a href="#"><span>About Us</span></a></li> <li class="last"><a href="#"><span>Contact Us</span></a></li> </ul> </div> what i am trying to do here is when i click on city (one of the menu) it should read the values from database table (the table name is cityCode. this table contains two rows first cityName and second cityCode) n depending on which city is selected it should retrieve the code of that city. also where to save that retried value because i want to use that retried code to extract value from another table. Hi guys, I am having an issue changing a piece of Javascript and hoped you guru's could help?I am not awful with Javascript but it is fair to say I am still at the beginning of my learning! I can't find the correct answer in forums and tutorials and you guys are literally my last hope! Here it is .... I have a drop-down menu on a website I am working on which is made up of HTML, CSS and a little bit of Javascript. At the moment it is set so that when the user hovers over the menu it operates the drop-down. This obviously does not work for iPads etc as there is no mouse to hover. I want to keep my menu but alter the Javascript so the menu drops when clicked instead. Here is my code: Javascript Code: <script type="text/javascript"><!--//--><![CDATA[//><!-- startList = function() { if (document.all&&document.getElementById) { navRoot = document.getElementById("nav"); for (i=0; i<navRoot.childNodes.length; i++) { node = navRoot.childNodes[i]; if (node.nodeName=="LI") { node.onmouseover=function() { this.className+=" over"; } node.onmouseout=function() { this.className=this.className.replace(" over", ""); } } } } } window.onload=startList; //--><!]]></script> HTML Code: <div id="menuPadding"> <div id="menu"> <ul id="nav"> <li id="m1"><a href="">HOME</a></li> <li id="m2">ABOUT US <ul> <li><a href="">Our Values</a></li> <li><a href="">Facilities</a></li> <li><a href="">Arena</a></li> <li><a href="">Jobs</a></li> </ul> </li> <li id="m3">SUCCESS <ul> <li><a href="">Jobs</a></li> <li><a href="">Results</a></li> <li><a href="">Awards</a></li> <li><a href="">Testimonials</a></li> </ul> </li> </div> </div> CSS Code: #menu { margin-top: 16px; All of the things I have tried have not worked! Any help would be truly appreciated! Thanks in advance! Using onclick=window.open function in js to open a pdf file link in a new popup window. Works fine to display the file onscreen, but not if the user wants to save the file client-side to their computer. The right-hand-button context menu for the mouse will allow the user to download, but the file saved will be a html dump file for the webpage and the name of the file will be that for the webpage. Of course I can use the easy <a href> method for download links and the mouse context menu options will be as expected, but I can only use target="-blank" or target="_self" . I need a popup window to open. Could use : oncontextmenu="alert('Left click the link to open, and then SAVE from with the pdf viewer') to advise users how to save the file, and could use "javascript: void(0)" to eliminate most mouse context menu options, so the user won't bother try. So how can I get a link to a file which can be viewed in a popup window and downloaded using mouse right-hand context menu? Any advice massively appreciated! I'm currently working on a project and I am doing a bunch of image switching. I'm having a problem with the following... I have seven medium image objects and one small one. One is at the top and the other 7 are below. When one of the 7 is clicked, it then becomes the one up top and the one up top then takes the place of the image clicked. This needs to be able to happen no matter which of the seven i click. Also when you click one of the seven it runs a script to change 9 other images in the center of the page. this isnt too important because i have it working already. What i have is, each of the seven images run their function that changes the 9 center images and then it runs another function. What i need is for that function to determine which company for example(shaws, lowes, target) the top image belongs to and replace the image that was clicked with the top one. But i also need to replace the NAME="" and ONCLICK="function()" with the proper ones for the original company up top. Please if you can understand what im trying to do let me know, if you need further clarification i can do so. i can draw a picture of what im trying to do or the layout if needed but i cant necessarily show anyone the project due to a non-disclosure. Is it possible disable an onclick after clicking it and then enable it from another onclick by id Code: <img id="one" href="images/homepage/sliders/bonus_button.jpg" style="position:relative; top:30px; left:50px; height:30px; width:70px; float:left;"> This code runs when it is clicked: Code: $("#one").click(function() { runEffectB(); return false; }); What I would like to happen is for either runEffectB() to not run if it was just run or to disable the #one.click once it has run. I am assuming I will be able to re-enable it from another onclick running a similar function. This is jquery and jquery ui if that helps. Any ideas much appreciated. Hi Exprts, I am using a (anylink)javascript menu from dynamic drive. Basically I am having a design issue but posting the problem here because I think this can be fixed through JS. Please download the attached files. You will see the menu & the sub menu on mouse over. Problem is that.... when the submenu appears & I take my mouse to the sub menu, the parent item hover style disappears. I mean, it doesn't look active. I just want the parent item active when users moves his/her mouse to sub menu. Thats all. Please suggest me any solutions for this. Thank you in advance. Hi all, this is my first post so forgive me for any errors but i'll try and give all the information i can. i use Xara Designer Pro and i have used a 3rd party software to create a html menu however i have a html loading screen on my site and the menu always appears on top of the screen and while the screen is loading, this is the only thing that appears on top everything else is fine, i have put this to the people on the xara forums and the opinion is that its probably the JS file that the menu is using that is telling it to appear on top. i was wondering what i should look for to determin this problem or if someone could take a look at it for me? i'll upload the JS here and see if anyone can help. my site is at www.pcevo.co.uk however you need to CTRL + F5 to refresh wihtout the cache to see the loading screen if you are on a fast connection.
I'm creating a menu using html, css and a javascript, I found a tutorial to follow online. What I am trying to achieve is when the mouse hovers over the menu items, each item will have a different colour background. the problem is that i can do this but it only works with one colour and not different colours. this is the html: Code: <ul> <li><a href="1.php">Things</a></li> <li><a href="2.php">Animals</a> <ul> <li><a href="2-1.php">Cani</a> <ul> <li><a href="2-1-1.php">Domestic dogs</a></li> <li><a href="2-1-2.php">Wolves</a></li> </ul> </li> <li><a href="2-2.php">Felidae</a> <ul> <li><a href="2-2-1.php">Domestic cats</a></li> <li><a href="2-2-2.php">Wild cats</a></li> </ul> </li> </ul> </li> <li><a href="3.php">Humans</a></li> </ul> the css is as follows: Code: div#s1 { width: 200px; /* menu width */ } div#s1 ul { background-color: #036; list-style-type: none; /* get rid of the bullets */ padding:0; /* no padding */ margin:0; /* no margin for IE either */ } div#s1 ul li { margin: 0; padding: 0; background-color: #036; display:block; border-top: 1px solid white; /* lines */ } div#s1 ul li a { display: block; /* lines extend to right, make area clickable */ color: white; background-color: #036; padding: 3px 3px 3px 23px; margin:0; text-decoration: none; height:15px; /* hint for IE, alternatively remove whitespace from HTML */ } div#s1 ul ul li a { margin-left: 20px; /* indent level 1 */ } div#s1 ul ul ul li a { margin-left: 40px; /* indent level 2 */ } div#s1 ul ul ul ul li a { margin-left: 60px; /* indent level 3 */ } div#s1 li ul, div#s1 li.open li.closed ul { display: none; /* collapse */ } div#s1 li.open ul { display: block; /* expand */ } div#s1 ul li.open a { background-image: url(bullet_open.gif); background-repeat: no-repeat; } div#s1 ul li.closed a { background-image: url(bullet_closed.gif); background-repeat: no-repeat; } div#s1 ul li.leaf a { background-image: url(bullet_leaf.gif); background-repeat: no-repeat; } div#s1 li.active a { background-position: 0px -20px; color: red; /* highlight text */ } div#s1 li.active li a { background-position: 0px 0px; color: white; /* fix lower levels */ } div#s1 ul li a:hover { color: red; background-color: #06C; /* rollover effect */ } and finally the javascript: Code: var menu_active_class = "active"; var menu_leaf_class = "leaf"; var menu_open_class = "open"; var menu_closed_class = "closed"; //the default page that is displayed if URL ends in / var menu_default_page = "index.php"; var menu_url; //main function //menu_id : id of the element containing the navigation function menu_main(menu_id) { var url = location.href; if (url.lastIndexOf("/") == (url.length-1)) { url = url+menu_default_page; } if (url.lastIndexOf("?") >= 0) { url = url.substring(0, url.lastIndexOf("?")); } if (url.lastIndexOf("#") >= 0) { url = url.substring(0, url.lastIndexOf("#")); } menu_url = url; var main = document.getElementById(menu_id); if (!main) alert("No element with id '"+ menu_id +"' found"); menu_traverse(main); } /* Walks down the subtree and on the way back sets properties. returns bit set 1: set = element is a node, unset = element is a leaf 2: set = element contains the active node 4: set = element is the active A node */ function menu_traverse(element) { var props = 0; // walk down for (var i=0; i<element.childNodes.length; i++) { var child = element.childNodes[i]; props |= menu_traverse(child); // aggregate bits } // on the way back now switch (element.tagName) { case "UL": props |= 1; break; case "LI": var c1 = (props & 1) ? Can a button be a submit button and also have an onclick event or is there anything else i can do to fix the problem? hi everybody.. i have this simple code: Quote: <html> <head> <script language="javascript" type="text/javascript"> document.write("<input type='button' value='push' onclick='hi()'/>"); function hi() { alert("hi"); document.write("<input type='button' value='enter' onclick='javascript: bye()'/>"); } function bye() { alert("bye"); } </script> </head> <body> </body> </html> if i try to run it on chrom its works well.. but on IE or FireFox its not define the bye() function.. whats the reason?! and how i can solve it?.. thanks very much.. Hello... Here is an example of a site I'm working on: http://mrmatthewreese.com/surine/custominlays.php notice the links for the alien cross bones, celtic knot etc...change colors once they are clicked on? Is it possible to have the top (alien crossbone) be set to black before it is clicked on then changed to the grey color once a different link is clicked? Just curious if anyone can help. Hey. When a checkbox is checked, I want it to add the id number of what I've got in a PHP variable, to appear in a <input type="text" />. For example: The id is 1, 2, and 3. So 3 checkbox's. I click on the first, and it adds to another input field, '1'. I hit the second, and the same thing happens, except the id is 2. Of course, I know how to do the ID and all with PHP. All I need to do now, is where when you click a check box, it adds to another field, and adds & after every check. Here is my code: Code: <input type="checkbox" name="delete" onclick="this.checkedbox.style.display=(this.value=='checked' ? 'inline' : '2' )" /> <input type="text" name="checkedbox" /> Thanks. Hello, I'm trying to make a small profile for my website, the website has a number of buttons on the left hand side allowing you to click the buttons and show the data or what they've clicked. For example when a player clicks on their statistics page, the statistics div will show up, and all the other div's will be hidden. If a player clicked on their friends list, the friends list div would be shown and all of the other div's would be hidden. I was able to show and hide the div's separately but I was unsure of how to make all the div's hidden apart from the one which they've clicked on. Thanks if you're able to help me.
