PHP - Struggling With File Uplaoding Issue

Creating a basic MVC framework.
I may confuse myself while asking this, so bare with me if this is confusing for you also...


As far as i understand, the URLs are in the following format:
www.example.com/controller/method/args

My goal here is to not show 'method' in the URL if it's not necessary.

For example,
www.example.com/contact

instead of
www.example.com/contact/view.

This is OK. I can accomplish this. But problems arise when I want to pass arguments in the URL.

Say I have the URL:
www.example.com/users   <----- this would by default, user the controller 'users' and call default method, 'view'..just list all users.

But say i want to view a user.. John.
www.example.com/users/john

How can I make my script know that 'john' is an argument, and not a method? The only way I can think of this is if I always have a method in the url .. like www.example.com/users/view/username/john

As of now, my script breaks up the URL at / and the first element in the array is is the controller. It calls the controller with the other arguments.

so www.example.com/users/john. The script would do (simplified)

$controller = 'users'

$controller = new $controller('john')

the 'Users' class would then see if 'john' is a method. If it is, call it, if not, then call the default method (view) with john as argument...
but what if I have a method called 'edit' and someone's username is edit? then www.example.com/users/edit would be a problem.

So my guestion to you guy is... how do you deal with this issue?

If you have www.example.com/users/edit, how do you let the script know that 'edit' is someone's username and now a method to call?
Do you pass the method in the url like so www.example.com/users/edit/edit ?

 Or if you have worked with a framework (Zend, cakePHP, Symfony, CodeIgniter, etc), how does the framework handle it?

Ideally, i would like to be able to have www.example.com/users/john instead of www.example.com/users/view/id/john

please can any of you guys help us out? I need to write some php code but i'm getting more and more confused everytime i get into php.

Anyways this is what i'm trying to do on my site:

I want the user to type in a company name in a text field in a very simple html form.
The user hits submit buton and the text the user typed in gets sent to a php document for processing.
If the user has typed in a company name that matches one of the 3 company names that i have, then the user gets sent to one page. (sucess page)
If the what the user has entered into the search form does not match one of my 3 company names, then I want them to be sent to another page (error page).

I know this is real simple stuff guys, but i just cant get my head round this so far, please, please help.

I have to take over somebody else's project. So I have the combination of being a beginner, not understanding their code well, and not experienced with arrays. I'm in over my head.

I have an array passed to the page, that would be something like this:

Array ( [215] => [213] => 1 [212] => 2 [214] => )
the user chose 1 person in 213, and 2 people in 212

 and I basically need to break it apart to do math like this:

(#people x cost of 213 = totalcostA )  +  (# people x cost of 212 = totalcostB)   =  total

The broken down data goes into the database, and the total is used for the cart.

So I have a list of events happening on certain dates

i.e the number of events per date change. The whole list is stored in an array called $matches. Depending on the formatting of the event or date tells the computer (or me) whether it is an event or a date. So the locations of the dates within $matches[] are stored in the array $dayKeys, and the position of the events within $matches[] is stored in the array $tournKeys.
I am trying to print the list back out in the correct order.

I have tried to simplify the above loops as much as possible for this thread. My point is though, that when I am at the end of $dayKeys,  $dayKeys[$a+1] generates an error, because there are no more $dayKeys.
So my question is how should I rephrase that if condition so that I dont have to look to see whether The next thing to print is a date or an event by looking at the next $dayKeys value?

I suck with arrays, there I said it .  With that said, hopefully someone can help me here. I have two multi-dimensional arrays called $allteams and $chosenteams (the contents of which are listed below).  I simply want to compare them and make a new array of the items that are in the first array ($allteams) but NOT in the second array ($chosenteams). NOTE: I tried to use array_diff() but couldn't get it to work since they are multidimensional...

FYI, I'm also confused why the info appears to be listed twice but I think that just has to do with associative vs. numeric arrays (i.e. I think I just need to specify one and the amount info would be cut in half), but I'll research this more on my own as it seems like it has to be easy to find

Again, I just want to compare those two multi-dimensional arrays and end up with another array that only has the items that are in the first but NOT in the second.   So now I'm trying to do it the way below using simply "array_push" Code: [Select]

Ok, I have this code that is supposed to upload a csv file and save the contents into a specific sql table.  I am getting an error when i hit submit that states the file is empty, meaning the csv file.  I am thinking that the file isn't really being targeted i just don't know how to fix it.  To start i have a php page with a the form and then i have another php page that is included in the form php page.  The functions for submitting the csv info in the text file is located in the include file.  here is the code:

I am working on a project that downloads large zip files from server, for small files the script works well and downlaod files successfully, but for larger files like currently we are trying to download a 922MB file it gives us this message (in firefox) and doesn't download any thing.

This is a strange one, as I have many forms on my various sites, and on this site, the file in question is used by several functions.  Ultimately, I'm wanting it INSERT values from the form, which I'll eventually add more of.  

Form is process and is stent to rn_process.php, which is the code listed below.

It echoes the correct $grade and $position when I comment out the INCLUDE.  So I know it's passing the correct values.  However, when the INCLUDE is active, I get the following error:

resources/con.php is a file I link to many times, and it's work in those instances.  

It's certainly not executing the INSERT.

Hello all,

I'm designing an upload file section for a home medical company.
So far it has been going great, I am uploading files and they're being successfully inserted into my MYSQL Table.
However, my issue is when I download the files they claim to be corrupted and unusable.
If I save the PDF files to my desktop they won't open at all, they claim to be corrupted. If I download a JPG and then open it in photshop it warns me
the file may be corrupted, knowing it is not I clicked "yes". The jpg actually opens and looks like the image, however about 50 pixels on the bottom get cut off and look like a messy TV screen, if that makes sense.

Wondering if anyone has had this similar issue, the uploading part is not the issue - just downloading the files.

I am trying to run the following code to upload a file. (WAMP using Win XP). Once I select the file and click submit I get the error: "Forbidden... You don't have permission to access /< on this server." with URL http://localhost/<?=$PHP_SELF?>

Main script gets class information from a database and prints them so long as the class start date or end date is after today (actually includes today). Main script calls "instructors.php".  It queries another database based on the instructor name ($chef) and then prints the bio information for that instructor.   "instructors.php" works fine on it's own, when I add "$chef = "Chef Name" ("Chef Name" is in the Instructors database).  When it's called from the main script, nothing shows up in that area - even though "Chef Name" is in the database.  All of the other data is printed fine, just not anything from instructors.php.  I verified that it's actually including the file, as I can add "echo "test";" to the top of instructors.php and it prints fine in the main script.   Any ideas of what I'm missing?       Main Script

Still very new to PHP but getting some good use out of it with includes.

I'm currently using this code to check the file name of the page and then give the corresponding anchor tag a class of active in order to style my main menu.

This is all working for most of my pages but my problem is that I now have multiple files called index.php one in the root of my site and some are in folders.

Is there any way around this issue? Can PHP check to see if its the index file in the root of the site or is there a better way. I suppose I could create a second variable in the index file in my root ie my home page and then check to say if the current page is called index and has the variable of home but how would I write this?

how to get the name of the file including a file from the included file,

This one has me mixed up a bit.. I am trying to record site activity information from a common.php file using a user object. But since the file is included into different php files based on different situations I need a dynamic way of finding the file name that is including it. I could be over complicating things but right now this seems like the best solution other wise I'll have to rewrite the code on every page i write. Is there a function for doing this? Or if someone gets what I'm trying to do if they could point me to the direction of some more information on it.

Hi, I have this code below which groups all the SubHeading together and then queries the same table to find RiskConsequence which are grouped that match SubHeading then to query this table one more last time with all the Risk Mitigation that matches the grouped RiskConsequence.

Problem I get is it does the SubHeading, the RiskConsequences it only does one of them not all of them before it moves onto the RiskMitigation.

I know I have a php coding issue just cant see the wood from the tree's as the queries work.

I remember once having a php or html5 issue where the first option had to be blank in the drop down. Otherwise, it wasn't working.

What wasn't working ? How wasn't working ? I can't remember. either php had difficulty reading user input or the drop down was not showing any options. And so, I had to add a blank value.

So, something like this wasn't working ...

And, I think I added a blank value, at somebody's advice, to get it to work. I think it was something like this, if I remember correctly:

I can't remember. All I remember slightly that there was a blank value.

I been going through my php files to find that particular file to jog my memory but I failed to find it.

Can you folks explain to me if a blank value is required or not ? What is the benefit/disaster of adding it and how should the blank value be added ? Show me an example.

 

Was this a php or html 5 issue ? Can anybody fugure ?
