PHP - Move A Child Fork To A Background Process
I have an application that aggregates data from various suppliers.
The user enters the criteria on a page the php script running under apache uses proc_open to call a php cli script. The cli script forks for each supplier and gets the content. Once all children have completed (i am using pcntl_wait()) the search gets marked as completed and the results are returned to the browser. The above all works well most of the time. However dependant on the request certain suppliers may take much longer to return the data then others. This can sometimes be upto 4 minutes. What I want to do is set the cli script to become a background process if it takes longer than 60s. The search would be marked as partially completed and return control to the apache php process to return the partial result set. Once the background cli script has completed the search would be marked as completed. I can then make an ajax call from the client to poll every 10s to check if the search is completed and when complete refresh the results. Is it possible to make the cli script a background process if it takes longer than a certain amount of time to process? How would would i go about achieving this. Thanks for your help. I have files on my server and I want a user to click a button which fires a php script which in turn fires a bash script which IN TURN fires the uploading program (plowshare). So to make it simple: user logs in, sees upload button. Clicks it, file starts uploading. I then want the user to see "upload initiated" and that's it. One php file and all that changes is the name of the brand and the logo. This has to be clickable from a menu and also if a user changes the brand name it changes to the appropriate name and logo. The JSON works fine, I just want a way of submitting the string which hopefully doesnt involve a form, but its the only way I can think of! Any other ideas? The process I am running is unimrcpclient, after initialization, it expects some command to be entered in order to communicate with the mrcp server. however, passing the command as an attribute is not an option. I have here a script that allows a GSM/ Remote receipt printer to poll for data in a specific format. The issue is that I will be deploying a few 100 of these damn things and need to know what ones are on or off! I can get the time I polls the file and have it writing to a DB table. The only issue is that even with only two printers running its filling up the table fast! Over 600 rows in 30 mins for only two printers! I need to find out a better way to do this but have the same flexibility in knowing what exact times it was on and off and then to take this data and put into a nice viewable format! This should be safe with a few hundred printers at once. If the styles prefered are selected they should be displayed in the select input later, how can i accomplish this?

Hi all,
I am building a website for my local motorclub.
we are wanting to start taking online payments for membership and events. I have built a members only area - the way to get access is for a member of staff to accept the registration. this is all fine for members who pay via cheque or simular.
I am wanting a sign up process to include the payment page, was going to use paypal as the merchant. So if people want to join the club they are able to do so and get immediate access to the members only page instead of waiting for staff to check if the payment has cleared then set up there account etc.
so basically i need a sign-up form (which is done) then a purchase button at the bottom, which takes the payment and then redirects to the website but 'tells my website the payment has been taken and to give full access'.
I cant really explain how i want it, but i hope you understand from what i have said.
