PHP - Warning: Mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: Access Denied

I have created a function to connect to a required database with a username and password.

I have called this db_openConnection()

Now for each function that requires a select from a database is it ok just to call the db_OpenConnection() first within the function or should i be keeping open a db connection (using persist, i think) rather than keep creating a connection.

I know that the connection ends when you have finished a query any how.

Not sure if this is the correct forum or if it should be mysql forum

I have just started using PHP again after a long break and am very rusty. I am having a few problems with some basic things:

I have defined a function to connect to my MySQL database and it doesn't work. My $hostname, $username, $password variables are stored in a separate php file which I am including first and the standard mysql_connect function works ok, but I wanted to put it inside another user defined function called "condb" to make things quicker later.

my function looks like this:

function condb(){ 
mysql_connect($hostname, $username, $password) OR DIE ('Unable to connect to database! Please try again later.');
}

and I am trying to run it like this:

condb();

Unfortunately it is not working. Probably a basic error but any help appreciated.

I have just set up MAMP on my new MacBook Pro and I am having trouble getting my MySQL connection working.

When I use the following code:

However if I use the old mysql_connect() function, it doesnt throw back any errors?!

Hi,

I found a tutorial in building a poll, however it detects IP, so people can't vote multiple times, so I dissected the code into sections while removing the IP blocking, while still inserting the IP address into the database, the problem is that I get:

Access denied for user 'ODBC'@'localhost'

for the second page, I don't know where I went wrong, could anyone help me? I also attached the code and .sql file so that people can hack it and check where it got wrong.

My dad loves these frozen cheeseburgers from meijer so I was gonna write a little script I can run in cron that will check Meijer's website and txt or email or something if they go on sale.

Whenever I run the below script I get an Access Denied response from the server instead of the html for the cheesburger page.

I'm sure I just need a CURL option or something.

Hi everyone! I'm getting the error "Access denied for user ''@'localhost' to database 'crystalair'" (crystalair is the name of my database) whenever I submit my form which inserts a new row to the database table "order". The same happens when I try to retrieve data from the table using select query.

However, I can successfully perform operations (select, insert) in my other pages which involves another database table "user". If this is a connection error, how can I successfully perform operations with another table? Also, my connection query does not return an error. I have also checked to make sure my user has been granted "All Privileges" in the phpmyadmin. I've run out of ideas. Can you please help? Thanks a lot.

I am using WAMP server for my PHP Server and am trying to connect to an Access Database with the extension of accdb, but I keep getting the error "could not find driver". Call to undefined function mysql_connect()

What other way can I perform a query? Or do I need to get something enabled?

So basically my project is one where the user can log onto my website, and the page then checks if the ID and password are in my table in my microsoft access file.

If the username and password are the same, the user continues, if it isnt, then it stays on the same page and says something like "username and/or password are incorrect" or something along the lines of that.

the problem is right now im not sure how to make it say  "ERROR username and/or password is incorrect" if the username and password dont match. Can someone help me with this? and also make sure if the username and password are correct that it goes to the next page, entitled searchpage.php

Okay, I am trying to get MySQL to cooperate with PHP. All of my attempts have been unsuccessful.
Before you post a reply, please note I have taken these steps before I posted this topic:
1. My libmySQL.dll is in both my php and C:\Windows folder
2a. (Mental note: my installation directory is C:\Program Files\Apache 2.2\php\ext)
2b. The extension_dir in my php.ini file is as follows: Code: [Select]

4. The extensions that are enabled for php are as follows: Code: [Select]
