I have a .txt database with ~100 records.  I only want to show the 15 records that are at the top (referring to reading order of the file).

I'm assuming that "for" would do the trick, but when I tried I got 10 copies of every record.

For some reason my for loop only seems to be storing some data in my fields, most of the time the data is not true but simply duplicating one of the entries. So instead of having a string of 1,2,3,4 for instance it would store all of them as 4. The entires are selected using fields in a multiple select box, in theory of someone choses 10 unique entries from the "Systems" category all 10 should be made into rows in the MySQL table.

Any idea why this is happening?

Hello,

I am using the following code to display images managed by a MySQL database.  Basically another program manages a bunch of images, but this script displays certain ones (ones with INCLUDE = 1 in the database) on my main page.  My question is, is there an easy way to limit the number of images it displays, say to 5?  I'm not too concerned which images actually display (ascending or descending)... or better yet, random!  Most importantly, I only want five to display.  Each image will be linked to the full page, which displays all the images.

Any ideas?

I have a page (A) displaying a form with a textarea field using a WYSIWYG interface.
The user will enter a list of unordered items and upon submit the string will look something like this:

This is my list of food items:

Upon submit, I need to give each list item an unique id and store this id along with the text next to it in a separate table:

The user will then land in another page with a form displaying the list. The text is now in the page itself and not in a textarea.
Instead of the bullets a dropdown list appears, and the user can select "buy" or "sell" for each list item. 
This page (B) looks something like this:

When the user hits "submit" the table with the list items will be updated with the values selected in the dropdown list:

The next time the user goes to Page B the list will remember the states.


Here's the curveball: At any point the user may click on "EDIT LIST" on Page B so they may add more items (at the begining, middle or end of the string). On edit mode the list items should appear as bullets again inside the WYSIWYG interface.

Keep in mind that some of the text in the string may not be a list item (ie, "this is my list of food...")

Im trying to create a website where users login, and then when they add a new entry to the database there name is put as the author. This is how my tables are set up. One table is named job and has the columns id, jobtext, jobdate, and authorid. Another table is called author. This table contains the columns id, username, password, and name. Right now, under authors, it displays all the authors in the database. I want it to just show/submit the authorid of the logged in user.

Right now it is only returning the first entry, not the entire list that meets the criteria.  It does delete that one file though but does not remover the rows from the database.

I am sure the database stuff is jacked up I am really new to that part.  What am I doing wrong here or is there a better way to do this perhaps

I can't figure out how to select something from the database that is under today's date. This is what I have:

Hey guys im making a blog and when i make a post it automatically takes the date and created an archive based on what ever i have in the database (date wise) anyways it works almost fine but if i make a date in the same month it duplicates like so:

Is there away where i can limit October by 1 but when i come to make a post next year it will still display like so:

Alright, I've been assigned a project at work. I did not develop the application and the individual who did used CodeIgnited framework and mysql as the db.   Here's the problem, I'm not given much OT to do this and in our meeting the best way to proceed was to replicate the database for different parts of the organization. Basically we are a subsidiary and have been using an application that other groups within the organization want to use. Usually I would reconfigure the db schema and add org ids and in the user table add the appropriate organization to go to. However, they are not giving me enough time to do that.   So what I'm thinking is to just create a copy of the database we use (just the structure) and create a new database.   What I want to know is how to use mysql to check to see if a user exists in one database and if they don't then to go on to the next database. I understand this is a very sloppy way to do it, but it's the way we are moving forward.   I found the code to connect to the db in CodeIgnitor... how can I connect to a database, check to see if the user exists, then close that db connection and try the next database?

We recently upgraded from PHP4 to PHP5 and the below script that was working perfectly in 4 has completely stopped working and I can't figure out why for the life of me. I'm not an experienced PHP programmer--I've done some forms, but this is the first time I've used a database.

What needs to (and was) happen: A user enters their username in the form and gets a readout of their participation so far that month.

The problem(s): I know that it's storing the variable 'user' because it echoes it back properly, but the database is no longer allowing me to select the row based on that variable. I know it's not that I can't connect to the database because if instead of '$user' I change the code to a username I know is in there, I get the proper readout. This all started as soon as I transferred over to PHP5--before that, no problems at all.

The database information is all correct, I just took it out for privacy's sake.

What I can't quite understand is why I am getting the two lists as an output, which simply seems to be identical to the output of the var_dump.

So what i mean is if i set a variable to "[" ($some_variable = "[") the rest of my code is now going to go CRAZY because there is an open [. Is there a way I can just make everything inside the first set of "" not relevant to the code? thanks!
