how do i stop multiple duplications in database on my PHP script?

What is happening is the form is filled in then the first part of the form where it updates my clubs table with category ID's works fine. Nothing in the if ($result) { } seems to run. When someone revisits, it should only access the cookie in the computer and retrieve data in the table based on the cookie. The problem is, the code inserts multiple rows with different IDs (which is autoincremented). The codes works for returning visitors which only reads the cookie ID value. I noticed that the error reacts differently with different browsers: When in localhost, mozilla works as expected, ie inserts 4 rows, and chrome inserts 2 rows. However if one uses insert or rss feed they show as � or a square. How does one make them show correctly. Is it possible - and reasonable - to have one Form which allows Users to create a new record (i.e. do an INSERT) and which also allows Users to modify an existing record (i.e. do an UPDATE)? When a User registers at my website, not only do they create a record in the "member" table, but one of the required fields is "First Name". What that means is that when I allow Users to edit details in their Profile - most of which were not included in registration to streamline the process - I don't have to worry about doing an INSERT, because I already created a "member" record and on the "Edit Details" page the first field is "First Name" so that is a hook so to speak where they can enter more info about themselves like... Im having a terrible issue saving the persian language into my DB and bringing it back into a PHP echo. All i get is: ���� Rather than the actual text that it should show. I have a form that submits the text to a UTF8-Unicode DB table. A then have a php doc that reads that table and echos to the document. My desired outcome is as follows: If the form submit button "like" or "dislike" is clicked, get user's ip and check to see if it already exists in the database. If it exists, don't increment the count (of either button), otherwise log the ip and increment the count (of whichever button is clicked) by 1. Currently I've got the increment working (testing only the like button at the moment) and I've got the ip being stored into the database, but cannot get the comparison to work. Each time the button is clicked it adds the ip address into the database instead of disallowing it. I don't understand how to put each row for stone cold into HTML row. Please don't be annoyed by my question, I know its a simple stuff but I've tried several stuffs, I can't get what I need still. I am creating a website for a small group of people to be able to message back and forth. I ran into a problem when doing the whole reply to a message option. I dont want to have each individual message as a new entry in my database, and then look for each message in that conversation when loading the conversation, I thought about inserting something like +=+=+=+=+=+= in between messages in the conversation so that when i pull up that conversation i could just separate the messages into an array by looking for that +=+=+=+=+=+= in the string of text and separating all the messages out. I want to know if anyone knows a better way of doing this or if this is a good way to go. thanks for any suggestions. help me please, my code is :

What I'm doing or trying at least is pulling data from a table displaying it into a multiple select box allowing the user the oppertunity to remove one or more options.
