I need some help with this. A user fills out a form, one of the fields is a zip code field. I need to retrieve that value from MySQL store as a session var and set that value as a variable to use with a weather display API. The ID is being stored from the form page.

Here is what I have so far, after the values are submitted into the DB.

I am working on a kind of CMS for my own website which no one else will be using but me as a way of improving my php skills, and am having problems with retrieving data from the database that holds both text and php code. I have searched the web and found that i should be using eval() for the code to be executed before it is send to the browser but cannot get it to work and can't find my mistake(s).

the php code will always be the same, and is supposed to retrieve the id number of a page to use in a link (and works fine when tested by loading the code directly without retrieving it from the database)

this is an example of data stored in the database

Of course when I leave it like this, hovering over the link in my page will show exactly that and lead to nowhere

I have tried all sorts to get the code to be executed when retrieved from the database before being send to the browser so that this particular link would say "localhost/page_builder.php?id=57" but I cannot get it to work, though I suspect it is fairly easy.

I suspect I would have to store the data in a different format in the database? And how exactly do I use the eval() function in my case?
Could someone please adjust my code so that it does work?

I'm currently working on a project and it is the first time I have had to store/retrieve an array with PHP and MySQL. Basically its a website that has a list of discounts/coupons on it. People can register and submit their discounts and such. I am storing an array for who is eligible for the discount, as well as which categories the discount falls under.

I did some googling and there seems to be tons of thoughts on the best way to do this. Some say to use implode/explode, some say to serialize/unserialize, I was just wondering if there is a common, concrete way to do this?

I will need to be able to search the array for its contents. So if children are eligible for the discount, I need to be able to store that in a database, retrieve it later, and search it for only "Children" so I can display the discounts available only to children.

If someone could please advise the best way to do this and post some examples, it would be greatly appreciated. I learn best with examples that are explained properly.

I don't know why but I'm failing hard at GoogleFu today. I can't find a tutorial on how to store a session id in a cookie and then call it on the server. session_id says it replaces the cookie it makes if you set the id via session_id, even if it's the same id...but I'm not sure if that really matters.

Can anyone help point me in the right direction to a good tutorial/give me some insight on this subject? I want to store the session id in a cookie to keep a user logged in for 2 weeks or so (unless they log out of course).

I did find some tutorials on how to re-route the session handlers for open/close/read/write session functions which allow me to store the session in a database. Is this what I want?

I am working on a PHP web form and I have a very simple situation I guess, I have a variable named: $MyVal

When I do

print_r($MyVal);
To see whats inside, I get:

SimpleXMLElement Object ( [0] => 8.23 )
Now I am assigning this variable into a session variable so that I can do calculations with it.

So I assign:

$_SESSION['MySesVal'] = $MyVal;
But after assigning to session variable, when I do my calculations:

$finalValue = $_SESSION['MySesVal'] * 4;

I get 0. So is it because the actual $MyVal variable has some XML stuff as:

SimpleXMLElement Object ( [0] => 8.23 )

So what is the right way to properly assign $MyVal variable to a session variable to do calculations.

Hi Everyone! Just learning php. Hope someone can help with this. Trying to design a product page of photo images with price, description, etc. At this point I am ignoring the design and just trying to get the fields to populate. They all work through my "while" loop except I cannot find the syntax for the image and am just getting the placeholder. My images are just "image".jpg in my root folder. Ex. building.jpg. And my table column is "picture_image".

can someone help me with my proggraming problem please. Am new in this so i still have lots problems.

I need to put all data from my MySQL table in one table in html.
There is catch... i need to design output to give me table with x rows and 3 columns, so it means while reading data from database it need put every 4th in new row. And if there isnt 3 data (or better say if there isnt 3 full <td>) in row code will automatically add empty <td> or 2 in table.

So...did somebody do this before or have some code ?

display images for the values that exist in the table:

the values in a table's column where they're in the format of "0,0" and the image corresponding to it is named 0,0.png

this is my attempt $q is retrieving "0,0" however in order for me to retrieve its image i need to add ".png" to it in order to find it in the directory that the image is located. It tried without ".png" and it also doesn't work.

Hi guys .. please help me .. I don't know how to do this and I tried but there were no satisfied results.. I want to retrieve a Title (ing_title) from a database called k_db2 , in a table called content_langs depending on its ID , which called ing_contID example: if ing_contID=1 , then show the ing_title with this id ing_contID the above code should be in a php file .. then I want to include this php file inside the header of my website.. by importing the ing_contID from the database and depending on it the title should be shown.. I really tried but I couldn't find any solution .. if you could help me in the first part of this problem I'll be glad ..

This is driving me crazy, as I cannot get it working.

I have a database that has a table called 'categories'. I need to retrieve all categories with category_id != '1,2,3'. For this, I can this query:

$q = "SELECT * FROM categories WHERE category_id NOT IN (1,2,3)";

The query executes fine. I need this categories retrieved, to be passed to a Smarty Template Engine powered page. I have:

$q = "SELECT * FROM categories WHERE category_id NOT IN (1,2,3)";
$res = mysql_query($q);
while($row=mysql_fetch_array($res)) {
Assign('categories',$row);
}
But when retrieving the array in the Smarty page, with a loop, I only see the last item of the array (the last category).

If I go back to the while loop, and add a Code: [Select]
print_r($row);, I see two arrays (I have two categories).

But the question is: How can I work with those two categories, as I need to use them individually outside the while loop?

Any help is appreciated.

I have figured out far enough to loop through my table and return a list of check boxes that will be matched to a product. My issue now, is i cannot figure out the proper way to loop through them after they are selected and return them as checked/unchecked for the given product. Thought there is some MySQL involved, that part isn't the problem, I know how to insert into a database or update...when the product is selected from a drop down, I need to be able to populate the checkboxes.

Here is the code i am using to initially display all of the categories to choose from...

Storing Friends In Mysql

I have a database with all users.. Within that database all users have an id. How would I make it so users can "friend" other users? Would I need to make a new table for that?

I need to find a way to store a password for connection to a remote database. I'm writing a program that will create a database on whatever server the user is using. Obviously, they will have to provide their username and password in order to create the database and have access to it. I need my program to get the information once (when they use the setup utility), then be able to store it so they can automatically connect to the database whenever my program is used. I plan using a php file for storage and include() to gain access to the info. I just don't have an idea for getting the information into the php file in the first place.

Hey,

I am a bit of a noob at php/mysql and trying to be clever(emphasis on trying).

I want to pull some php/html code from a database in mysql, whilst it does display the html, the php does not.
Can this even be done? Is it going to cause me issues later on?
