How should I make this better ? I am having a big problem in MySQL and a part in my PHP coding as well. I created a registration form, where the user will have to fill his names, email address, choose a username and so on. I do not want duplicate email address and username in my database, thus, if a user choose either an email address or a username which has already taken, he will be notified. To prevent this duplication, I have set both the email address and username fields as UNIQUE KEY in MySQL. My problems a Even by setting both the username and email address fields as UNIQUE KEY, it is not working as I can register using the same email address or username. How to solve this? I have coded also to prevent this problem of duplicate so that the user will be notified to choose another email or username, but I am having a warning. I've encountered one more problem (with the first WebApp I'm building), and I have no idea how to fix it. I've tried something, but it doesn't seem to work, so I'd appreciate some help in getting it fixed.
Here's what's happening:
So after I perform an operation (let's say "ADDing a record")...the records gets added correctly, but then, if/when I press [F5] in my browser window (or click on the Refresh/Reload icon), the same input details are being used and a second identical record is being added. I believe the same thing happens for some (or perhaps all) of the other CRUD operations.
What do I need to do to disable that behavior?
The only thing I could think of is to set the $functionSelected variable to blank ("") - which I've done towards the bottom of my code (shown below) - but that doesn't seem to be doing anything...the problem persists.

Hi Guys, i am trying to get my head around doing a calculation for the total and getting the discount from each row and display the total. I am using both mySql and php. I am then wanting to pick out the current image and give it a red border and then display the other left over images smaller with a black border. I can get the images to all display with the black border or the current image to display with a red border but the other images dont show... Cheers Ben I want to make a "hint" feature for an app ive been working on. Its a guessing game, and I want to be able to give out hints. Ok so say there is an answer in the database. Say the value is "firetruck". I want to retrieve that value, and obscure it, displaying only one or two letters that are in the word. Or, for a number, say 178, I want to display only one digit from it. Is this possible? Im sure it is, anything seems possible with PHP & Mysql. If so, how could I implement this? Trust me, I read the manuals. The manuals for both PHP and Mysql are so vast and a little advanced for my level.. then again im not complete novice and know the basics plus more of both.
