PHP - Convert Html Tags To Text
In a text box I put in some code snippets that I want to refer to later, but when I display it, it displays it in html. How do I convert the code into pure text so it displays the actual code?
If I try strip_tags, that just strips it (and it doesn't work with php). And I can't use strip_tags with conditions, because I don't want to list all codes! Also, the code has both html tags and php code - I just want that whole thing to be displayed as is, without havign the browser try to "read" it. Also if I put this into the text box, <td><?php echo date ("m/d/Y", strtotime($row['code_date']));?></td> then nothing is displayed. If I put this in the box: <input class="button" style="display:inline" name="whatever" type="submit" value="Press here" /> then I get an actual submit button instead of the code! Similar TutorialsHi , As we know we validate the user input data while processing the from. We validate to avoid XSS for that we use html filter to filter invalid tags and all. If the data it self contains some tag like data Ex: <HOMETOWN RANGE> . the html filters truncating it to <HOMETOWN> though the the tag is not a HTML tag . Presently i am using Input class filter it s truncating the text. Can any one suggest me some filters where we can avoid data truncation with non- html tags like above..... Yes, it's a homework assignment. No, I'm not trying to cheat, so pointing me somewhere is better than just feeding me code, like, "look up how to blah blah" or tell me what I've got wrong? I'm trying to parse a text file of the constitution, add header and <p> tags depending on the first word of the paragraph, then print to an html page. I know I'm supposed to create a function that will return a paragraph, and another function that will return the first word of a paragraph. This is my code, and it completely does not work (obviously I've not included the external html tags) <?php // Opens the constitution text file. $const = fopen("constitution.txt","r"); //Returns an entire paragraph function getParagraph($myfile) { while (!feof($myfile)){ $line = file_get_contents($myfile); $paragraph = explode("\n",$line); } return $paragraph; } //Returns the first word of a paragraph function getFirstWord($myfile) { $pg = getParagraph($myfile); $word = explode(" ",$pg); Return $word[0]; } // Runs through some if statements to determine the tags to use if (getFirstWord($const) === "Article"){ echo "<h2> getParagraph($const)</h2>"; } elseif (getFirstWord($const) === "Section"){ echo "<h3> getParagraph($const)</h3>"; } elseif (getFirstWord($const) === "Amendment"){ echo "<h3> getParagraph($const)</h3>"; } elseif (getFirstWord($const) === "We the People"){ echo "<em> getParagraph($const) </em>"; } else{ echo "<p> getParagraph($const) </p>"; } fclose($const); ?> Say I have the following text stored in a MySQL database... Code: [Select] <b>Classic Quote from movie</b> and I retrieve it into a variable called $text, how do I properly echo that so that it keeps the bold tags and actually display the text "Classic quote from movie" in BOLD? I'm doing something wrong somewhere along the line (simply doing "echo $text;") because it displays on the page as... Code: [Select] <b>Classic Quote from movie</b> Instead of... Classic Quote from movie Any info on properly storing and echoing back HTML would be very appreciated. Do anyone know how i can put the html tags in the same line as the other html tags? Here's an example: Code: [Select] Images | Link | Delete | Enabled On my code, it break the tags to the new line without put on the same line as the other tags. Here's the code: Code: [Select] [code]<?php session_start(); define('DB_HOST', 'localhost'); define('DB_USER', 'myusername'); define('DB_PASSWORD', 'mypass'); define('DB_DATABASE', 'mydbtable'); $errmsg_arr = array(); $errflag = false; $link = mysql_connect(DB_HOST, DB_USER, DB_PASSWORD); if(!$link) { die('Failed to connect to server: ' . mysql_error()); } $db = mysql_select_db(DB_DATABASE); if(!$db) { die("Unable to select database"); } function clean($var){ return mysql_real_escape_string(strip_tags($var)); } $username = clean($_GET['user']); $password = clean($_GET['pass']); if($username == '') { $errmsg_arr[] = 'username ID missing'; $errflag = true; } if($password == '') { $errmsg_arr[] = 'PASSWORD ID missing'; $errflag = true; } if($errflag) { $_SESSION['ERRMSG_ARR'] = $errmsg_arr; echo implode('<br />',$errmsg_arr); } else { $qry="SELECT * FROM members WHERE username='$username' AND passwd='$password'"; $result=mysql_query($qry) or die('Error:<br />' . $qry . I'm fairly new to PHP programming so please bear with me. I currently have a HTML user input form, where two of the fields are dependable drop down boxes. The user selects text values from these and, along with other pieces of information, the record is saved to a mySQL database. However, rather than saving the text value I save the 'id' field value for each selection made. On another 'Read Only' form, the user can then go back to have a look at the records they have previously saved. The problem I have is that rather than the user being able to see the text values selected from the drop down menus, they can only see the id for each of the selections made. I just wondered whether it would be at all possible please that someone could show me what I need to do so that the user can see the 'text' rather than the 'id' value from the selections they have made. The code that I am using to load the information into the read only form is below. Code: [Select] <?php require("phpfile.php"); // Start XML file, create parent node $dom = new DOMDocument("1.0"); $node = $dom->createElement("markers"); $parnode = $dom->appendChild($node); // Opens a connection to a MySQL server $connection=mysql_connect ("hostname", $username, $password); if (!$connection) { die('Not connected : ' . mysql_error());} // Set the active MySQL database $db_selected = mysql_select_db($database, $connection); if (!$db_selected) { die ('Can\'t use db : ' . mysql_error()); } // Select all the rows in the table $query = "SELECT findid, locationid, detectorid, searchheadid "; $result = mysql_query($query); if (!$result) { die('Invalid query: ' . mysql_error()); } header("Content-type: text/xml"); // Iterate through the rows, adding XML nodes for each while ($row = @mysql_fetch_assoc($result)){ // ADD TO XML DOCUMENT NODE $node = $dom->createElement("marker"); $newnode = $parnode->appendChild($node); $newnode->setAttribute("findid",$row['findid']); $newnode->setAttribute("locationid",$row['locationid']); $$newnode->setAttribute("detectorid",$row['detectorid']); $newnode->setAttribute("searchheadid",$row['searchheadid']); } echo $dom->saveXML(); ?> The two fields concerned are 'detectorid' and 'searchheadid'. The tables holding the 'id' and 'text' values for each are in the following tables 'detectors' and searchheads'. Many thanks and kind regards Chris Hey guys, I'm a total newbie here, and just about as a new to php. My issue: I have a very large .html file that contain multiple articles (I actually have a few of these, but we'll start with one for practicality). The article titles are all wrapped in <h2> tags, there are 10 articles in one file. The articles are very simple, just a title wrapped with <h2> and then a few paragraphs wrapped in <p> tags. What I want to know how to do: I want to know if there's a way to open that file, and have each article saved as it's own .html or .txt document (the title & following paragraphs of each article). Ultimately taking my 1 large file, and creating the subsequent 10 smaller files from the articles inside of it. I am having trouble explaining this in text so I'll try to illustrate: I have "Articles.html" - which contains (article1,article2,article3.. ..article10) I want to split "Articles.html" and create "Article1.html", "Article2.html", "Article3.html", etc. Is that possible? Or am I looking at something far more complex than I can imagine at this point - perhaps something I'd be better off doing by hand? Ultimately I intend to stick all these articles into a database, but that's the 2nd part of what I want to do (and I think will be the easier of the tasks). Let me know if you need any additional information in the event my description above is unclear... I simply am having issues figuring out how to separate out the text into individual articles. Hi there. I was wondering if it were possible to convert text to numbers or some sort of URL friendly link. For example, "Hello there" would be converted to '435342553' or whatever. I want to do this because for example when someone goes to this URL, example.com/435343434, the number/uri string would be decoded and whatever the text was it would be displayed on the site. I can write all this code no bother I just need some advice/ideas on the the encoding/decoding of the text. I was looking at some options for doing this..... hexdec - removes spaces md5 - cannot be decoded? None of them seem to be working, the problem is decoding them. md5 creates a perfect uri string but as I said it cannot be decoded. I would appreciate any ideas of suggestions. Thanks a million. Code: [Select] <?php echo $row_Recordset1['name']; ?> i want to convert the name in to like <a href=main.php?name= $row_Recordset1['name'] >> in databse i has 3 name Steve Mark Lisa i want that names into link like main.php?name=mark and so on how to do it help me h Hi, I want to place the following HTML statement inside an echo statement, i.e. in PHP I want to output an image that is also a link. <a href="#"><img src="Somefolder/animage.jpg" width="125" height="156" alt="some image" /></a> All ideas will be greatly appreciated. the idea on what im doing is like a converter, like showing what your name would look like with certain images per letter, when you input text (your name for example) and when you press the submit button you would get a series of images in a row that represent each character that you typed.
here is the example that i did...

This is a bit of a long shot, but hopefully somebody can point me in the right direction. I have a wordpress website that has a 'Wine List' page, in which it lists over 100 'custom posts' detailing each wine. I have tried out several plugins to convert the wine list into a PDF but none work in the way that I require. So now I'm thinking to just do it outside of wordpress and find a PHP script that may help me. I imagine it would be impossible to simply execute a script at the bottom of a page for it to convert whatever HTML has been generated into a PDF? Or is there anything that would allow me to specify what records from the database to add to the PDF? E.g. for me to type a PHP script with a MySQL command and for that to be converted into a PDF? Thanks if anybody has any ideas what action I should take! hello guys.. i want help from u . i am displaying a table of 5 rows and 5 columns . i want to get a pdf copy of it dynamically. i want to re-use it again for my invoice also . covert in into pdf and then print that file. can u provide a sample code of how to covert it into pdf . Hi, I'm not sure if this should be in PHP or HTML so apologies if it's in the wrong area. I have a form with a text area element but when the text is submitted, tags such as <br> aren't included so the outputted text is never formatted correctly such as there being no paragraphs. Is there a way make sure such tags are included in the output text? Ta. |
