PHP - Passing Value By Post To A New Php File

Greetings...

I have been staring at my whiteboard pondering a new architecture for processing data in an application.  New for me anyways.  I want to create a more centralized and modular method of handling data.  For ease of explanation I will put it into the context of a login system which is where I first started thinking about this.  I know there are a lot of login systems out there but I wanted to create one from scratch which utilizes PDO although that specific thing is not germane to my main question.

Here we go...

Lets say that for my Registration, Login and Forgot Password pages the forms on each page were directed to "Process.php" 

The idea is that process.php will provide the centralized platform to deal with data, acting as a choke point in the application making it easier to secure. This will also provide the means to quickly develop new parts of an application knowing that my methods of dealing with data area already well defined and secure.  There is one hole in the idea that I can see though.  If the user data being submitted to the process.php page does not meet the security requirements then the user must be sent back to the previous page.  I dont' want to lose the data they have already entered into the forms. ie. I want to have it appear in the form fields... makes sense right.

Now here comes my question...  is there a way to pass POST data when using header("location: http://mySite/previousPage.php")

It seems from my experiments that the data is lost.  I do not use header(); often.  In previous designs I have usually created each part of a login system as seperate and self contained entities apart from using a common db object.  I know there are other ways around this, using session data for instance but this idea has been eating away at me for a little while and I feel its time to ask around for some advice.  It has become a matter of curiosity.

I have found some info on sending POST data using header but it did not seem to meet the requirement that the user and the POST data be sent to another page synchronously.

At first I thought that maybe I would just do validation on the frontend / view pages (not to be taken as clientside) and if it was valid, then submit it to process.php, validate it again the let it be handled appropriately to its particular end but then I run into the same problem plus there is the extra overhead of validating the data twice.

I guess thats it for now.  Sorry if that was a little long-winded... its part of my process, helps me to better understand what I really want to know.

Using header() on a receiving page from a form page... the redirecting header() with POST data, sending the user to a new/previous page.  Possible?

I'm working on an image resizer, to create thumbnails for my page. The resizer works on principle of include a DIRECT link to the image. But what I want to do is put in the PHP Variable in the URL string, so that it points to that file and resizes it accordingly.

What I am trying to do is pass on the variable "image=<?php echo $row_select_property['image_url']; ?>" to the Thumbnail script. At the moment I am passing it through the URL string, but it doesnt  seem to load the graphic.

I'll try expand on this more, should you have questions as I am finding it a little difficult to explain.

Right, so I've made a very simple web app that allows....

1.) People to register (adding them to the MySQL database)
2.) Login (providing they're in the database)

I've gotten it all working, but I'm stuck at the last hurdle. If someone logs in using the correct username and password, it takes them to login_success.php. Here I query the database and use "SELECT * FROM Users WHERE Username = '$name'"

I would have thought, that it would have returned that user's entry in the database. But instead I just get a blank page.

Am I right in thinking that's because the contents of the $name variable aren't passed from log.php to login_success.php

If so, how do I fix it?

Hi, I need to pass value of variable to another php file. I thought it is possible to do it as following:

But the problem is like that. The php file inside which I want to write above html code has not using <form> tag and it has no buttons. So how to initiate the transfer of variable into another php file? Is the above idea is not the good idea? Are there any another ways?

The problem that I am having is that I also store the mysql connection details in session vars (they change depending on who logs in). I have tried a number of ways of "passing" these session vars to the uploadify.php file which does the grunt work of the uploading, but I can never seem to access them. I obviously dont want to pass them to the uploadify.php script through the js because that will show my credentials in the source code.

So, the question is, how can I access these session vars in the called file. I assume its a combination of session_write_end() and session_start() but I havent got the right combination yet.

I am essentially using a include file for a mysql connection and based on the connection outcome i am either setting a value to true or false.  It prints  "Connected succesfully" and what not just fine, but, after that it wont pass on the variables data.  I know its the function because, it passes the data if i put the variable before the function... i just dont get it.. any help would be great.

I am sending a jpg from ActionScript as post data, and I am not sure if my php is wrong. The jpg is a string of data, but it isn't all getting put into the jpg file. I have written it to a txt file, and the output was about 6 characters. Will my PHP work?

Ok so I have someone needing me to write a php page(s) to basically check the current size of a file in a directory and display the current size and max allocated size then create a dynamically changing image to reflect those parameters(i.e. pise chart, bar graph, etc.) all called to an intranet page.

I work at a business where we upload OS images to a server file but that file is only allocated so much space. The problem we are running into is that we do not know when the space is full until all of our uploads fail.   We are attempting to create a visual representation of that space so that we know when to purge the space of the old temporary images.

I dont even know where to start on this .. would someone please point me in the direction of some code that would get me started on building this project? I have exhausted my efforts on Google and other PHP pages.. I am new to PHP so I may already be in over my head but I am adventurous and will try anything.

I am working on a video-hosting site, something akin to YouTube. I converted whatever MySQLi I had to PDO. This piece of particular code is responsible for checking if the fields are filled in; then proceeds to upload the files and inserts data into the database. The code jumps straight to the error I created which is "empty fields". The var_dump prints out as null all the way. I cannot seem to figure out where the problem lies. I would say it could be that the file is not set? I am not quite sure. Here is what the log gives me:

I have changed the allotted sizes in the php.ini file, so that rules out the POST Content-Length problem, I think.

Here are the "undefined indexes":

$videoTitle = $_POST['video_title'];

$thumbnailImageName = $_FILES['thumbnailImage']['name'];

Hi,

I wrote this to retrieve a file based on a POST value.
For some reason it will not retrieve the file content and display it at all.

I get this message:
Warning: fopen(18.txt) [function.fopen]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/content/x/y/z/path/html/includes/different.php

The 18 is the correct POST value.  So that is a positive

There is a file named 18.txt in /home/content/x/y/z/path/html/includes/18.txt
