PHP - Variables Returning Blank Values!
Hi all,
I am having some trouble with a script.. all works fine except for the calculation part. It isn't adding up, but the reason for this is because when I echoed all the variable it seems that they are blank, the problem is I can't figure out why? <?php # you don't display errors on in-use scripts, do you? ini_set('display_errors',0); error_reporting(E_ALL|E_STRICT); class webPoll { # makes some things more readable later const POLL = true; const VOTES = false; # number of pixels for 1% on display bars public $scale = 2; public $question = ''; public $answers = array(); private $header = '<form class="webPoll" method="post" action="%src%"> <input type="hidden" name="QID" value="%qid%" /> <h4>%question%</h4> <br /> <ul>'; private $center = ''; private $footer = "\n</ul>%button%\n</form>\n"; private $button = '<p class="buttons"><button type="submit">Vote!</button></p>'; private $md5 = ''; /** * --- * Takes an array containing the question and list of answers as an * argument. Cheers in advance Hey there, have a small issue at hand. My login script keeps returning a blank page. It does a proper echo if you enter an incorrect username or password, but if you enter correct information is returns only a blank page. Here is the code from the php file that checks and processes the username and password the user enters in the form on the login page. <?php $host="removed_for_this_post"; // Host name $username="removed_for_this_post"; // Database Username $password="removed_for_this_post"; // Database password $db_name="removed_for_this_post"; // Database Name $tbl_name="access"; // Table name // Connect to server and select databse. mysql_connect("$host", "$username", "$password")or die("ALERT! Hi, I have a user sign up form. When some data is incorrect or missing it reloads the form, saving the info the user has already entered and displaying an error message for the parts that are invalid. For example: Code: [Select] <tr><td width = "300"> <label for="email">Email Address:</label></td> <td><input type="text" id="email" name="email" value="<?php if (!empty($email)) echo $email; ?>" /><br /> </td></tr> How can I return the submitted info for a checkbox and a birthdate? Thanks! Hi Folks, I'm thinking this is simple, but just can't seem to figure it out. I use similar code for different tables that works fine, but for this table, it doesn't work so I'm thinking this is a MySQL issue. Here's the code: Code: [Select] $sqlmeds = mysql_query("SELECT ALL value FROM test WHERE type like 'media:'"); $meds = mysql_fetch_array($sqlmeds); foreach ($meds as $med){ echo "$med"; } and here is the relevant area of the table with row names "type" and "value" type value . . . media: painting media: works on paper media: collage/assemblage . . . When I run the query to find all 3 values from within phpMyAdmin, no problem, all three are returned, but when I run the exact same query from php, I only get "painting" returned, and oddly, I get an array with two values in it, both of which are "painting". Any ideas??? Thanks!! p.s. I also tried this just in case instead of the foreach, but same result: Code: [Select] for ($i=0; isset($meds[$i]); ++$i) { echo "$meds[$i]"; } Hi. I have some code which needs to return a single variable from the function and stored as a variable within this page, so it can be echoed later on in the page. I couldn't get it to return as a variable, so i used "return compact();" to return the variable and "extract (myFunction());" to extract it to variables. However, when I turned on php's display errors and error reporting function, I got an error message saying "Warning: extract() [function.extract]: First argument should be an array in /my/web/site/index.php on line 6" (which is where my extract function is). This works fine with passing more than one variables through, is there another way pass one variable from a function to be stored as a variable on the page which called the function? Here is the function: Code: [Select] <?php //This is a list of numeric error codes against their text. this will return the error code as the variable $issue function checkLoginIssue() { //If there is an error code if (isset($_GET["issue"])) { //cycle through the list until the code is reached, return the text and break the switch switch ($_GET["issue"]) { case "1": $issue = '<p class="warning">Please log in to view this page</p>'; break; case "2": $issue = '<p class="warning">Wrong Username or Password</p>'; break; case "3": $issue = '<p class="warning">No user found with those details</p>'; break; } //return the variable in an array with a single value return compact('issue'); } } ?> And here is the code which calls the function: Code: [Select] <?php extract(checkLoginIssue()); ?> Im trying to understand the code below. (taken from an O'REILLY book) Im trying to get my head around this, so can anyone tell me if im thinking about this in the right way; The function (fix_names) borrows the values from $a1,$a2 and $a3 and puts them into $n1,$n2, and $n3. It then processes the strings contained within these newly created variables and then returns the processed values back into $a1,$a2,and $a3? The variables $n1,$n2, and $n3 cannot be echoed as they were created within the function.? Please correct me if im wrong. Code: [Select] <html> <head> </head> <body> <?php $a1 = "EDWARD"; $a2 = "thomas"; $a3 = "wriGHT"; fix_names($a1,$a2,$a3); echo $a1." ".$a2." ".$a3; function fix_names(&$n1,&$n2,&$n3) { $n1 = ucfirst(strtolower($n1)); $n2 = ucfirst(strtolower($n2)); $n3 = ucfirst(strtolower($n3)); } ?> </body> </html> Moodle 2.5 *nix server Theme: Essential ---------------------- Hi Folks I have a small mind bender in how php is returning results from a mysql query. There are two issues: 1) The mysql query from phpmyadmin is correct, while the php function that handles the query from the website is not. 2) It takes a very long time to run this query with php, 30 seconds to over a minute. Phpmyadmin is rather quick (Query took 0.0239 seconds). The query is: SELECT u.firstname AS 'Name' , u.lastname AS 'Surname', c.shortname AS 'Course', ( CASE WHEN gi.itemname LIKE '%summative%' THEN 'SUMMATIVE' WHEN gi.itemname LIKE '%formative 2%' THEN 'FORMATIVE 2' ELSE 'MC' END) AS 'Assessment', from_unixtime(gi.timemodified, '%d/%m/%y') AS 'Date', IF (ROUND(gg.finalgrade / gg.rawgrademax * 100 ,2) > 70,'Yes' , 'No') AS Pass, ROUND(gg.finalgrade / gg.rawgrademax * 100 ,2) AS 'Mark', ROUND(gg.finalgrade / gg.rawgrademax * 100 ,2) AS 'Mark' FROM mdl_course AS c JOIN mdl_context AS ctx ON c.id = ctx.instanceid JOIN mdl_role_assignments AS ra ON ra.contextid = ctx.id JOIN mdl_user AS u ON u.id = ra.userid JOIN mdl_grade_grades AS gg ON gg.userid = u.id JOIN mdl_grade_items AS gi ON gi.id = gg.itemid JOIN mdl_course_categories AS cc ON cc.id = c.category WHERE gi.courseid = c.id AND gi.itemname != 'Attendance' AND u.firstname LIKE '%03%' AND gi.itemname LIKE '%mative%' ORDER BY `Name` , `Surname` , `Course`, `Assessment` ASCWhen I run the query in phpmyadmin , it gives back; Name Surname Category Module Course Assessment Date Competent Mark G03 Itumeleng Velmah Mokwa Fundamentals Communications CO1 119472 FORMATIVE 2 07/04/14 Yes 100.00 G03 Itumeleng Velmah Mokwa Fundamentals Communications CO1 119472 SUMMATIVE 07/04/14 Yes 100.00 G03 Itumeleng Velmah Mokwa Fundamentals Communications CO2 119457 FORMATIVE 2 05/04/14 Yes 100.00 G03 Itumeleng Velmah Mokwa Fundamentals Communications CO2 119457 SUMMATIVE 05/04/14 Yes 88.00 G03 Lally Sheila Mokane Fundamentals Communications CO1 119472 FORMATIVE 2 07/04/14 NYC 59.00 G03 Lally Sheila Mokane Fundamentals Communications CO1 119472 SUMMATIVE 07/04/14 Yes 90.00 G03 Lally Sheila Mokane Fundamentals Communications CO2 119457 FORMATIVE 2 05/04/14 Yes 100.00 G03 Lally Sheila Mokane Fundamentals Communications CO2 119457 SUMMATIVE 05/04/14 Yes 98.00And it is perfect so I have no issues with that. Can anyone see anything obvious I am missing? Thanks Hey all. I'm a noob so bare with me. Just started studying php and have an assignment due. At this phase of the project I have to create a form where a user can register data and I should retrieve that data and store it in my database. Now I have already created the form (student_reg.php) and a separate file with php code (demo.php) My database is name "registration" and I am trying to put this info in the "student" table. It has about 15 fields but for now I am only trying trying to insert the 1 field of data to test if it works. Dont know if that may cause problems? So far my demo.php connects to the database successfully. The problem I am having is the information I submit does not showing in the database field. However, I have an id field in my case a student number field which is set to auto increment so it automatically updates (1,2,3,4) with each new sumbitted info. When I submit the info the id field gets updated each time with a new row ( so i assume some information is somehow going through ) however the info I entered will remain blank in its field. :banghead: Heres my form (student_reg.php) Code: [Select] <div id="apdiv3"> <FORM action = "demo.php" method ="post "> <p>Course name:</p> <INPUT TYPE = "text" name="input"/> <INPUT TYPE = "Submit" VALUE = "Submit"/> </div> </FORM> and heres my php code to retrieve the form info Code: [Select] <?PHP include 'includes/config.php'; //connect to database $link=mysql_connect(DB_HOST, DB_USER, DB_PASSWORD); //error check if (!$link) { die('could not connect: ' . mysql_error()); } $db_selected=mysql_select_db(DB_NAME, $link); // error check if (!$db_selected) { die('can\t use ' . DB_NAME . ': ' . mysql_error()); } // Connected to database // retrieve form data $value=(isset($_POST['input'])); $sql = "INSERT INTO student (sname) VALUES ('$value')"; if (!mysql_query($sql)) { die ('Error: ' . mysql_error()); } mysql_close(); ?> I also recieved a notice "undefined index" or something like that from this part of the code "$value=(isset($_POST['input']));" before I inserted "isset" to the code. I'm not sure if what I did fixed the problem or only hid it, or whether that notice was related to the problem I'm having of not retrieving the info. Haha sorry guys know this is probably childs play for you but I just started out and really need to fix this so I can catch up with this project. Feel free to add tips and comments on other areas. Thanks :mrgreen: Hi, I have a string with the value of { "success": true, "delivered": true, "contactDetailsRequired": false, "message": "Signed For by: D ANDERSON ", "signature": "https://webservices.thedx.co.uk/PodImage/ImageHandler.ashx?tn=906732192165", "date": "21-07-2020", "serviceLevelName": "Consigned", "time": "13:33:19", "trackedProductName": "DataExchange" } How do i go about placing the values into variables so for example: $success = "true"; $delivered = "true"; $message = "Signed for by: D ANDERSON"; etc.... My mind has gone blank and im having one of those days, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Hi I am adapting Jeffery Ways Mysql class to accept multiple where statements however I have got stuck on the final hurdle. It is when I try to do the bind_results() and I pass in the parameter types and the parameters. Here is that part of the code: if ($this->_where) $values = array_values($this->_where); $str = "'"; $str .= implode('\', \'', $values); $str .= "'"; // echo $str; $count = count($this->_where); foreach($this->_where as $key => $value){ $key = $value; } $user = 'matt25'; $pass = '6722853cacc4a9649dc75abc852f23c35b1f75cb'; $stmt->bind_param($this->_paramTypeList, $user, $pass); } It works how it is by setting the parameters as variables, but that obviously isn't practical. as you can see I also tried to make a string with the values from the array which brought up the error: Warning: mysqli_stmt::bind_param() [mysqli-stmt.bind-param]: Number of elements in type definition string doesn't match number of bind variables in C:\wamp\www\trick_tips\admin\includes\MysqlDb.php on line 260, the same as when I try to put the array into there. So I need some way of setting each value in the array as a variable to then put into the function, or another Idea that I have completely missed. Any help would be much appreciated. Cheers, Matt Hi I am new to php, I am trying to capture the url and place into a variable but I only get the 1st digit to show, I just cant see what I am doing wrong. Sorry to ask such a basic question but I just can't work it out, I have attached a screen shot of all me code, your help would be very very much appreciated. What would be the correct way to use returned sql results as variables. I have tried the way in my script, but Im unsure of how I can echo just one of the $nt variables further on in my script. $code = $_GET['postcode']; $shortcode = substr($code,0,2); $query =mysql_query ("SELECT email FROM treesurgeons WHERE postcode like '%" . $shortcode . "%' ORDER BY companyName LIMIT 3"); echo mysql_error(); echo "<p>The email addresses you have requested are;</p>"; while($nt=mysql_fetch_row($query)){echo "$nt[0],$nt[1],$nt[2]<br>";} echo "<p>please use $nt[2] if you ever want to contact me</p>"; //this line doesnt work for me ?></body></html> is there is a way to assign variables such as; $nt[0] = $firstemail $nt[1] = $secondemail $nt[2] = $thirdemail this way I could use each of my sql values, just as I would any other variable? I've googled a lot but still can't find much of a clue for how to do this (printing all environment variables in PHP that is). I know it has something to do with $_ENV and $_SERVER but... I would be thrilled for some guidance! Best regards, Rasekamon As part of my User Profile, I have a series of open-ended questions that Members can answer, e.g... Quote 1.) Why did you start your own business? 2.) If you could offer one piece of advice to other entrepreneurs, what would it be? : 10.) How do you compete against large corporations? I was leaning towards creating a many-to-many relationship like this... member -||---------0<- answer ->0---------||- question From a database standpoint this works great, HOWEVER, I just realized a big problem... If run this query... Code: [Select] SELECT response FROM answer WHERE member_id = 1; ...then I would get TEN RECORDS back and I don't know of any way to maps those to the 10 Text Boxes on the "My Thoughts" page?! (It would be a real PITA to have to create 10 separate Prepared Queries in PHP - one for each Field - to fill out my page?!) So, is there a way to keep my table structure, but push the 10 records from above into 10 separate variables so I would have something like $response1, $response2,... $response10 ?? Thanks, Debbie $username = $_POST['uid']; $email = $_POST['mail']; $password = $_POST['pwd']; $passwordRepeat = $_POST['pwd-repeat']; $date = $_POST['date2']; $stream = $_POST['relationship']; $sql1 = "INSERT INTO users (uidUsers, emailUsers, pwdUsers, relationship) VALUES (?, ?, ?, ?);"; $sql2 = "INSERT INTO Family1 (username, application_filed, relationship) VALUES (?, ?, ?);"; $sql3 = "INSERT INTO Family2 (username, application_filed, relationship) VALUES (?, ?, ?);"; mysqli_query($sql1, $conn); mysqli_query($sql2, $conn); mysqli_query($sql3, $conn); $stmt = mysqli_stmt_init($conn); if (!mysqli_stmt_prepare($stmt, $sql2)) { header("Location: ../signup.php?error=sqlerror"); exit(); } else { mysqli_stmt_bind_param($stmt, "sss", $username, $date, $stream); $result = mysqli_stmt_get_result($stmt); if ($row = mysqli_fetch_assoc($result)) ($username==$_SESSION['uid'] and $stream =='nursing'); mysqli_stmt_execute($stmt); } if (!mysqli_stmt_prepare($stmt, $sql3)) { header("Location: ../signup.php?error=sqlerror"); exit(); } else { mysqli_stmt_bind_param($stmt, "sss", $username, $date, $stream); $result = mysqli_stmt_get_result($stmt); if ($row = mysqli_fetch_assoc($result)) ($username==$_SESSION['uid'] and $stream =='doctoral'); mysqli_stmt_execute($stmt); } if (!mysqli_stmt_prepare($stmt, $sql1)) { header("Location: ../signup.php?error=sqlerror"); exit(); } if (!mysqli_stmt_prepare($stmt, $sql1)) { header("Location: ../signup.php?error=sqlerror"); exit(); } else { $hashedPwd = password_hash($password, PASSWORD_DEFAULT); mysqli_stmt_bind_param($stmt, "ssss", $username, $email, $hashedPwd, $stream); mysqli_stmt_execute($stmt); header("Location: ../signup.php?signup=success"); exit(); I was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction. I have this code. They idea I had behind it is to insert values into different tables depending on variables being passed. So when user fills out a form and selects $stream="nursing" I want results to go to table 'users' and 'Family1', but not 'Family2' table. and if user selects $stream='doctoral' results should go to table 'users' and 'Family2', and not go to 'Family1' But with my query I get results go to both table and also users table. And there is no restriction to what users selects, variable $stream being passed no matter what it is. Is this the wrong way to go here? Did I completely mess up the logic? Hello there
After a few years of spending less and less time coding, I've got a lot of catching up to do. Back when I left I usually would run without classes. Now this is a big deal for me today.
I do understand the concept of classes and already did some working models, mostly from my learning process.
Now here is what is bothering me:
<?PHP class database { // Variables public $test; // Constructor public function __construct() { $test = "4"; } // Functions // public function test() { var_dump($this->test); } } $test = new database; $test->test(); ?>Wether I run this script on itself, nor through another file, this does work. What i get is: NULL The constructor does run, I did an echo inside it. Also it does not matter if the variable is public, private or protected - it will be always NULL. Error_reporting is on E_ALL, does not show any errors. What have I overlooked? Hi I am having issues with the following code. I cannot get the table to produce a subtotal multiplying the value of 'ITEMQTY' which is a text field in the form in which the user enters by the 'ITEMPRICE' field which value is located in a text document. <h1>SHOPPING CART</h1><img src="images/cart.png" alt="Cart" width="100" height="100"/> <a href="browse_index.php">CLICK HERE TO CONTINUE SHOPPING</a> <?php if(isset($_POST['submit'])) { $itemname = $_POST['h1']; //echo $_SESSION['itemname'][$itemname]; unset($_SESSION['itemqty'][$itemname]); unset($_SESSION['itemprice'][$itemname]); unset($_SESSION['itemname'][$itemname]); } echo "<br/><br/>"; echo "<table border='8' cellpadding='10' >"; echo "<tr><th>Name</th><th>Quantity</th><th>Price</th><th>Subtotal</th></tr>"; foreach($_SESSION['itemname'] as $key => $value) $subtotal = ($_SESSION['itemprice']*($_SESSION['itemqty']; { echo '<tr> <td>'.$_SESSION['itemname'][$key].'</td> <td><input type="text" name="t1" value='.$_SESSION['itemqty'][$key].'></td> <td>'.$_SESSION['itemprice'][$key].'</td> <td>'.$_SESSION['h2'][$key].'</td> <td><form id="f1" method="post" name="f1"><input type="submit" name="submit" value = "delete"><input type="hidden" name="h1" value='.$key.'></td> </tr> <tr><form id="t1" method="post" action="summary.php" name="t1"><input type="submit" name="order" value="SUBMIT ORDER"></tr>'; } echo "</table>"; ?> |
