PHP - Local Time Zone In Php 4?

By using the function date_default_timezone_set() I am trying to set my timezone. Do I have to change anything else in any other files like php.ini?

My code was working perfectly when my hosting company located in Japan. But i transfer to US(hostgator) and now my time zone changes asia/tokyo to America/Chicago. Therefore, all my codes, scripts and sites are following one day behind of Japan local time.

Are time zones when calling the date function automatically decided based on where you live? Or is that something that I have to implement--Because the time is wrong according to my time zone.

I am sorry I have absolutely no idea where this question fits in this forum bcoz its related to PHP , MySQL and Javascript... 

So here is my question ..

I use MySql database to store posts.. where 'postdate and time' is saved using  'CURRENT_TIMESTAMP' of MySql that offcourse gives "2010-08-31 09:47:10" format...

When I have to calculate when the post was posted just before loading the posts on users wall e.g.

"2 min ago"...

I take the 'postdate and time' from database then use strtotime() function in php to convert it to string you know since jan 1 1970.

Now this time stamp is sent to javascript function which uses 'Date' Object to create current time and then 'getTime' to get the string like one Mentioned earlier. it then calculates the difference and displays it..

Just to inform you.. I used javascript to I may refresh "posted since" periodically using "SetInterval()"

But the problem here arises. There is difference of 1 Hour and 24 Sec in both times.......

  Sorry If I confused you... But the problem is simple. In javascript date object and MySql  --> strtotime()
there is time difference...

How I can correct it ???

Javascript function is called on load and Jquery's .each function is used to update all post's time.


 

Purpose: To get time zone of a remote file in my time zone. I have to download a file daily (mp3, don't worry its legal!) from BBC. Problem is that sometimes BBC doesn't update the file and i have to download entire file to check if it has been updated or not. Hence i decided to code a page that gives me date and time of that remote file. I have successfully compiled the code (that i got from internet). But the time returns in EST. I want the time in IST (indian std time Asia/Calcutta). CURLINFO_FILETIME has bee used. Below is code.

Pls suggest me how to convert EST to IST - Warning: I am a newbie. But i can follow instructions

PHP date and time function is not showing correct time on my local system

I have the following php code

PHP 5.2.6

We rent PHP server space on a server in California. Several of my pages generated by PHP show the current date and time, so when the page is printed, the user knows when the data was printed. Our users could be anywhere in the US, I am in Michigan. How do I convert the server time (PDT) into local time, regardless of where the user is?

I'm trying to code a page which is supposed to bring up the time of a person's computer. Is this possible without majorly complicated coding? I'm good with GMT offsets and stuff but I don't know how to get the time of a person's computer. I don't want other stuff, just the time so I can edit the time based on where they are.

I don't know if I'm making sense so here's an example...

If someone does a forum post at 2pm Sydney time but it's 5pm Perth time. How can I make it so that someone in Perth sees 5pm but someone in Sydney sees 2pm...without them manually telling me their timezone? 

I read about using IP addresses but don't know much (Ok anything) about this , any hints or good sites to view would be appreciated? Or the answer if it's not too complex.   

Preferably I'd like to get the time in the 11 digit "time()" format so I can use it in tables and translate it with an existing function.

I am trying to simulate an ad expiration and carry out an action if the ad is expired. And I cannot get the if/else to work properly... I've tried many variations and I cannot see what I am doing wrong here. Any tips please 3 hours and counting of no solution!

Basically I have recently been playing around with parsing a csv file. What I am looking to do at this point is simply take the date/timestamp (part of the csv file), which is in the following format:DD/MM HH:MM:SS.100th/s
For the sake of argument, lets say I have this in an array string called $csv[0] and the file has several lines that span the course of a couple hours. I wouldn't mind having to use explode() to breakup/remove the date or 100th/s IF that would make things a lot simpler.

So where would I start in trying to achieve this?. The result I am looking for will simply return "X Seconds". Storing this in a string variable would be a bonus, as I plan to use this to divide a separate piece of information.

Any examples or ideas would be great. Thank you.

OK So I've got a datepicker that sends a date in d/m/y format. My DB stores the data in Unix Timestamp Which I can convert the date to with strtotime however this does the exact date & time.

All I want is the actual day. I've spent hours trying to convert this with just the day with mixed results...

I am having a problem with PHP displaying the correct date and time. It updates as it should, but is fast by 4min and is always displaying a date in 2004. I ran a basic php script to make sure the application im using itself is not wrong. go to lunenburgledger.com/time.php

Anybody had any ideas on where to check? The system time on the Windows Server 2003 is correct. The only thing I can think of is that it was converted to a virtual machine on vmware esxi, but the system time stayed right. Any ideas?
