PHP - Practicing With If Statements To Answer My Own Question - Question
when in a form, I wish to build a conditional that if the response to a radio button is a value of 2 (female), it will display an input requesting for users maiden name. If not 2 goes to the next input statement.
Here is code I was experimenting with: <html> <body> <form action="" name="test" method='POST'> <input type="radio" id="sex" value=1 checked><label>Male</label> <input type="radio" id="sex" value=2><label>Femaleale</label> <?php $result = "value"; if ($result == 2) echo "<input type='int' id='gradYear' size='3' required>"; else echo "Not a female!" ?> <input type="submit" value="GO"> </form> </body> </html> The code passes debug, however, Not a Female is displayed. My question is - Can I do this and if so, what value do I test against id='sex' or value. I tried each one but gave the same results. I realize that $_POST[sex] would be used after the submit button is clicked. But this has me stumped. Thanks for the assis in advance. Similar Tutorialsi saw this in a php function page he http://php.net/manual/en/function.stristr.php the line is if(stristr($string, 'earth') === FALSE) { specifically this this code <?php $string = 'Hello World!'; if(stristr($string, 'earth') === FALSE) { echo '"earth" not found in string'; } // outputs: "earth" not found in string ?> what is the significance of the '===' in there does it mean something? is there any difference from the '==' or the '=' ? I'm trying to search the 'ad' column where 'ad' = 1 or 3 I'm having problems doing this. Here is what I currently have, but it is not bringing back 'ad' where ='1' (for obvious reasons) Quote $query = "SELECT * FROM users WHERE ad='3' AND state='$state1'"; Here is what I thought would work, but it displays every listing in my database when I do it this way. Quote $query = "SELECT * FROM users WHERE ad='3' OR ad='1' AND state='$state1'"; Thank you in advance for your answers, google is not being so kind to me right now. This should be simple but I cant figure it out. Basically, I just need to only display titles that have thumbnails, and it should always show titles with dates from the next two months. Therefore, since it is October, it should show the October and November titles, if it's November, it shows Nov and Dec, etc. The part of the code i need help with is at the bottom. [syntax=php]<?php $width = 940; $height = 277; $classtext = ''; $titletext = get_the_title(); $date = print(Date("l F d, Y")); $thumbnail = get_thumbnail($width,$height,$classtext,$titletext,$titletext,false); $thumb = $thumbnail["thumb"]; ?> <?php // if there's a thumbnail if($thumb != '' && $date == ? ) { ?>[/syntax] Hello, thanks for reading -- The simple page below should grab a user id ($_SESSION['id']) and message ($_POST['message']) and insert them them to a table using prepared statements. However, currently the script prints '-1 rows affected,' indicating failure, without inserting data. I'm sure I'm overlooking something simple here? Thanks very much Code: [Select] <?php session_start(); require_once '../includes/constants.php'; $con = new mysqli(DB_SERVER, DB_USER, DB_PASSWORD, DB_NAME); if(mysqli_connect_errno()){ printf("Connect failed: %s\n", mysqli_connect_error()); exit(); } $stmt = $con->prepare("INSERT INTO stories (id, message) VALUES(?,?)"); $id = $_SESSION['id']; $message = $_POST['message']; $message = addslashes($message); $stmt->bind_param('is', $id, $message); echo $id . $message; $stmt->execute(); printf("%d Row inserted. \n", $stmt->affected_rows); $stmt->close(); I have a table where a filed called "recruitment" can either be "0" or "1" Why does my below code not work? Code: [Select] $sql_rec = ("SELECT * FROM teams WHERE team_id=".$_GET['t']." "); $rsrec = mysql_fetch_array($sql_rec); if($rsrec['recruitment'] == 1){ echo "Your team is <b>OPEN</b> for all members to join <br> <a href='changemode0.php?t=".$_GET['t']."&r=".$_GET['r']." '>(click here to change mod)</a>";} elseif($rsrec['recruitment'] == 0){ echo "Your team is <b>CLOSED</b> for all members to join <br> <a href='changemode1.php?t=".$_GET['t']."&r=".$_GET['r']." '>(click here to change mod)</a>";} to ask in another way: how do I make the if statement to check if the value is "1" or "0"? I'm trying to figure out how to create a temporary table of a query join, so I can paginate the results. I kind of made half of this up as i was going along - which is dangerous for a beginner like me. I'm getting this error, and no results on the page: Warning: mysql_fetch_array(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result resource on line 179 also, is there a way to combine the two queries (create temp and insert from/into) Code: [Select] $sql2 = "CREATE TEMPORARY TABLE temp_search (plant_id INT PRIMARY KEY AUTO_INCREMENT, scientific_name VARCHAR(75), common_name VARCHAR(75), leaf_shape VARCHAR(75))"; $sqlx = "SELECT descriptors.leaf_shape ,plantae.scientific_name, plantae.common_name FROM descriptors INNER JOIN plantae ON (descriptors.plant_id = plantae.plant_name) WHERE descriptors.leaf_shape LIKE 'auriculate' AND descriptors.leaf_venation LIKE '%$select3%' AND descriptors.leaf_margin LIKE '%$select4%' INTO temp_search (leaf_shape, scientific_name, common_name)"; $sql = "SELECT * FROM temp_search ORDER BY scientific_name ASC LIMIT $start, $limit"; $result = mysql_query($sql); while($row = mysql_fetch_array($result)) { echo $row['scientific_name'] . $row['common_name'] . $row['leaf_shape'] ; } Hi! I'm new. I'm Gabby. :3 I'm currently self teaching myself php, MySQL, and Ajax for a simulation game I'm opening up where you can breed, show, and train dogs. I've been reading tutorials on how to create a sign up page with a confirmation email being sent to you. However, I don't understand why I need multiple pages. For instance, with the tutorial I learned, you have to create three pages. One to configure and connect your site to the DB, one to display the form to sign up with, and one to display a success/failed message. My issue with that is I know it's possible using php (or is it Ajax?) to have one page. An example is on http://dogdayzz.com, when you sign up the page doesn't redirect you anywhere, it uses the same php file the entire time. Is this because the code for the form is printed in an if statement, then cleared and executed with an error/success prompt? Hopefully someone can help me out.. I couldn't find anything on google. :/ Thanks everyone for your time Gabby hello all, i am having a for each problem. im trying to get two post fields using the foreach function. here is what i have in my form.php: Code: [Select] <?php foreach($_POST['staff'] as $value) { echo "$value - <br />"; } ?> the name of the the fields coming in are Code: [Select] name='staff[]' and the second one is name='descr[]' fields += 1; I am trying to make my database search only search where private = '$priiv'(Usually 0,1, or 2) but it does not work Code: [Select] $query_search = "SELECT * FROM users WHERE username LIKE '%$idea%' OR fname LIKE '%$idea%' OR lname LIKE '%$idea%' OR tags LIKE '%$idea%' AND private = '$priiv'"; What am i doing wrong? Code: [Select] /*** a new dom object ***/ $dom = new domDocument; /*** load the html into the object ***/ @$dom->loadHTML($file); /*** discard white space ***/ $dom->preserveWhiteSpace = false; /*** the table by its tag name ***/ $tables = $dom->getElementsByTagName('table'); /*** get all rows from the table ***/ $rows = $tables->item(0)->getElementsByTagName('tr'); /*** loop over the table rows ***/ foreach ($rows as $row) { /*** get each column by tag name ***/ $cols = $row->getElementsByTagName('a'); /*** echo the values ***/ echo $cols->item(0)->nodeValue.'<br />'; } Hi, Is there a way to start to echo from 43? thanks. I am trying something simple, creating some horses and making them race using OOP, creating them is easy, how can i find out which one "won" based on the highest total. Here is what i got so far Code: [Select] <?php class Horse { public $strength; public $speed; public $agility; public function create($name,$age,$odds){ $this->name=$name; $this->odds=$odds; $this->strength=(rand(50,200) * $this->odds - $this->age); $this->speed=(rand(100,400) * $this->odds - $this->age); $this->agility=(rand(150,250) * $this->odds - $this->age); $all=array(0=>"$this->strength",1=>"$this->speed",2=>"$this->agility"); echo "<b>$this->name</b> has a strength of <b>$this->strength</b>, a speed of <b>$this->speed</b> and agility at <b>$this->agility</b>. --- <b>".array_sum($all)."</b><br>"; } } $mix=rand(2,6); $a=new Horse; $a->create("Dave", 2, $mix); $a->create("Dude", 3, $mix); $a->create("Evan", 3, $mix); $a->create("Jill", 15, $mix); $a->create("Flex", 10, $mix); ?> I cant figure out a way to find out who had the highest total, i would love to know what i am doing wrong. i am looking for a way to write a php script to pull information from a html table and put that information in to the databases does any one have any idea who to do this In php, which function is best used to act something like the sql "LIKE" command? and how would that function be used like? Hello, i am currently working on a project and i have been on google and nothing has helped i am trying to detect characters in the URL so for example XSS if someone typed in the URL:
home.php?=<script>document.cookie();</script> OR home.php?=<?php echo file_get_contents("document.txt", "a");How would i be able to make a kind of firewall to detect this? and if it does then redirect to another page. Thanks. I'm considering getting a VPS, but I'm not entirely sure what this would be able the handle. The specs doesn't look that good to me, but my friend swears it will handle running apache/php/mysql handling large websites and databases without a problem. I want to run multiple databases that just store statistics and I'm a bit worried about the RAM and the company doesn't even mention a cpu. Here's the specs: 256MB RAM 300GB HDD 10Mbps unmetered 1 IP Address My friend runs two counter-strike: source servers off his VPS (same stats).. so I'm actually considering this, but it just seems like it's not powerful enough. Oh.. forgot the most important part.. it's only $9. are there any php functions that are best used when testing to see if a server is busy or not? and if the server is busy then display a "server is busy" message in the php script? Code: [Select] <?php if ($News_1_Status=="Y") echo <div class="newstitle" align="left"><?php echo $News_1_Date;?> <a href="<?php echo $News_1_URL;?>"><?php echo $News_1_Name;?></a></div><br>; else echo "Have a nice day!"; ?> how do i get the above script working any clue? Hi to all people, I just want to know if there a php script I can use using DRM. The scenario, once the user download the song from a website, he/she can't forward into other using bluetooth or file transfer. It is possible to do that scenario? Thanks in advance I have an issue with the below code Code: [Select] if ($gtype == "%24L" || $gtype == "$L") The value actually starts with the dollar sign then L, but its being read as a variable that's not assigned so it showing as blank. so the question is how to I get to check and see if the value of gtype actually is $L in a way that it wont read $L as a variable and as a value instead? hi, im trying to say if field ARTIST = Eminem then do the following. here is my current code Code: [Select] $hmm = simplexml_load_file('http://localhost/1.0/?method=player.getPlayQueue'); foreach($hmm->tracks->track as $tracks) { $artist = $tracks->artist; $title = $tracks->title; $album = $tracks->album; $index = $tracks->index; $id = $tracks->id; //If we submitted the form if('.$artist.'="eminem") { echo '<table border="0" width="70%" align="center">'; echo '<tr>'; i just need to know how to do the if(***) part. thanks. |
