Hello,

I am relatively new to PHP/MySQL (two months) and this is my first post in the forum.

I am trying to implement an 'add to cart' script from http://v3.thewatchmakerproject.com/journal/276/.

The demo works fine but when i implement it on my site i get this  warning: "Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated" from what i assume is this Function below:

Can anyone help me? Also, i'm aware that using global is not the done thing anymore, so could somebody explain to me what i should do instead of global.

a douche hard coded my shopping carts VAT to 17.5%

i wanted to just adjust the VAT in the shopping cart, but he has removed the feature..

so what i was thinking to counter it, was to make a php script that could EDIT all the prices in the database +2.5%

can anybody help me with this please?

I'm just starting to learn PHP and I'm working on something that involves two files, one HTML and another PHP.  The HTML file basically accesses the PHP file anyway though, to avoid repetition in the HTML code...the actual HTML form is hardcoded within the PHP file itself.  The user will be able to enter the quantity of items they want, and either add them to their shopping cart (display their order back to them on the same page as the order form) or submit the order (display their order back to them without the order form visible).

I already have the shopping cart portion done, so I'm really only having problems with two things:  1)  If they place their order, how do I redisplay the information without the HTML order form visible and 2)  If they already have an order in their shopping cart and they place their order, how do I carry over all the information in the cart to redisplay it (my variables all seem to reset after they add to their cart and display so I can't use the same function I used to retrieve it all in the first place)?

Thanks in advance...I've been trying to figure this out for over an hour now and I just need a push in the right direction   If you need anything else clarified let me know, I'll be lurking...

Hey guys.

I've made a script which will allow people to buy items, when an item is sold it will delete from the database.

so its easy to see the items i have it have separate colors so its dark grey and light grey on the next line and so on. But the problem is when the item is bought 2 of the same colors are next to each other. I am checking if the item_id is an odd or even number to get the result I want but cant figure out a soluction to when an item is purchased.

How can I make index.php?view=cart work in place of cart.php in the following code?
Works:

Hey again,

Still on the same project but now doing the cart page.  I've been bringing my skills up to date a lot doing this project, however, having said that I now can't figure out why my cart is not adding the items to the cart, i've checked the post data and the quantity is set to 1.  Would really appreciate someone having a look at it and hopefully can see what i'm missing.

This is a really basic question but i am trying to understand the process of uploading to amazon S3, I dont want to just download a pre-wriiten script that i dont understand whats happen.

I am using the s3.php class

Ok so i am just doing this to figure it out, so i create a file and then upload to amazon s3 this works fine, where i am confused is when you backup all files and directories in a site, i dont want all the backup files in the root off my website i want them to automatically upload to amazon.

So how does the process work?
if i upload a file it works great but i am still upload a file form my server.

How does amazon automatically grab files from my server and upload them.

Anyone no any basic step by step tutorials i have googled loads but they are all massive pre written classes and stuff which i can get working, but looking for a basic example.

I am using a curl library to upload images to Amazon S3 using a php wrapper (http://undesigned.org.za/2007/10/22/amazon-s3-php-class).

However, becuse CURLOPT_FOLLOWLOCATION is set to true on my server and open_basedir is enabled, this throws an error:

CURLOPT_FOLLOWLOCATION cannot be activated when in safe_mode or an open_basedir is set
I understand that I could disable open_basedir or use one of the workarounds at http://php.net/manual/en/function.curl-setopt.php. Instead, as a quick test I set CURLOPT_FOLLOWLOCATION = false.

The image upload to S3 still seems to work, but I am concerned that something may break down the line. Are there any implications that I should be aware of? I am not quite if CURLOPT_FOLLOWLOCATION is it even relevant in this case?
