PHP - Send Messages To Members

How is it possible, in PHP, to display an error message next to a form input text field if a user is attempting to submit a form with empty fields? Moreover, how is it possible to remove the same error message when the user fills in the input field with the required data and/or refreshes the page?

I have 2 files that I am working with: application.php and process.php.

application.php mainly has the HTML of the form.
process.php has the PHP for processing and validating the form.

I am very new to learning PHP (I started learning it last week) and I have been searching for hours for a clear answer. I have already tried different methods for generating the error message including: using empty(), !isset, $_POST["name"] = "", etc, and have tried using session_start();, $row, echo, print, and other variables to try and display error message on the page, and I have tried using unset();, and = null, to try and remove the error message once the input field has been filled but all to no avail. Either the method I try only half works, or nothing works, and I cannot pinpoint which is the part that is not working.

I only have 2 files to work with, and as an example of what I want to do is:

1. If the first name field is empty when the user clicks submit, an error message should appear next to the input.
2. If the user fills in the input and clicks submit, the form should be processed and added to the database.
3. When the user returns to the application to page to fill in another application form, the error message should not appear.

Is this possible with PHP?

I am working on a phpmailer script that sends an order confirmation email to the customer AND the client at the same time.  If I have the customer email and client email set both to the originating domain's email addresses (myname@myserver.com), then it sends fine.  However, if I try to send to an outside mail server (eg. someone@gmail.com), I get the following errors:

I'm not sure what's going on here.  Any SMTP or phpmailer geniuses here that can shed some light on what needs to happen here for this to send to any address?

I'm trying to setup a quick PHP script that will grab the email from the url (see below) and after inserting into MySQL db - which is working fine - the script will complete two additional tasks:

1. send that same captured email out to a external db as in shown via http://domain1.com/insert.php?email=$lead (example), but then send to a DIFFERENT source - the originator of the lead - a portback acknowledgement using Header (sending the status and email to http://domain2.com/check.php?e=$lead&s=$status for their records).

Problem: I'm getting all sorts of errors with the simplexml_load_file() function and can't figure out why it won't work.
Any input appreciated as this the only way I know how to pass the lead onward and then inform/update the other party of receipt of information.

I created a field in "b_users" table as "banned" with default value="no". i.e, all members by default are set to "banned"="no". I was testing this code in my some pages to ban member and prevent access to my pages:

$_GET["find"] displays all users including the current user. The current user should not be displayed.

I would like to display members that are NOT friends with the current user. Do I need to join the tables to make this work?

Im trying to get my members_profile.php to display the users profile....

I.e members_profile.php?boxerman will display my information.

I've been at it for hours but no luck...

Hi i followed a tutorial to create a register, login, members list and member profile pages but when i register, login and go to members list, the page its blank, i viewed the source code for the members page and its clearly trying to show something but i dont know what to do? Hi all,

I am trying to write a script where the user can update their details.

The html form sends the details across to this php file below. All the php variables echo after the query however the values do not replace the current values in the mysql database.

Also for some reason the fname is the only one that changes no matter what the value is. It is entered in to mysql as '0'.

I think the problem will be in the php below.

As all the information below is echoed correctly, and because the value of 'fname' changes I know the connection is working fine.
I guess the error must be in the query I have written, however there is no error that comes up...

Hope you can point me in the right direction.

Hello, I just joined today!  I am very new to php, I'm sure you'll be able to tell  

I created a 'members area only' thanks to some awesome online tutorials!!  The only part that isn't working is the page protection for the 'members only area'. 

I am using $_SESSION and ISSET, but wonder why page shows when the address to the protected page is typed directly in, (no session should exist) if I understand correctly ...

Any help will be wonderful, I really can't do this on my own yet.

I have tried many different combinations, I may have them all mixed together by now.  Currently, I have this code to the top of the page I am trying to protect ...
