PROBLEM: Columns from the excluded list still get displayed. Edited November 19, 2018 by phpsaneHi, I've been scratching my head for a while now about how to do this, I'm relatively new to php and mysql and perhaps foolishly taking on creating a user area for a website. I have everything else working, all of my register account functions and confirmations and all of the login scripts etc. I have created a profile page which returns various information to the user (this bit works fine) and I've got some nice show/hide toggles running with some javascript/css but my intention is to allow the user to change thier information (e-mail address, contact phone number and also whether they are subscribed to the e-mail list), it also displays any support tickets or messages. So after the long intro, here's what I'm struggling with... I have a form in a visibility toggled <div> which submits a 'change_email' script, so a user wants to change their e-mail, clicks on change, the <div> appears, they bang in the new e-mail and hit submit. My php script appears to work (because it doesn't throw up any errors), until you realise that actually it's not updated the record in the db... I'm using mysql_query("UPDATE users SET email='$new_email' WHERE username='$user'"); Do I need to setup variables for all of the information in the db (name, username, password, email, contno etc etc) and include them in the command to get it to work or should that just pick the correct record and then update it? If that is the case is there a way I can include 'blank' variables so I don't have to set them all up... e.g. mysql_query("UPDATE users SET user='',password='',email='$new_email', etc WHERE username='$user'"); Many thanks in anticipation Hi guys, I have created a column in my table titled "excerpts." Just as the name suggests, I'm hoping to create excerpts of each post in my blog with a max of 100 characters. I'm trying to display results for current user only who is signed in. Now I do have session_start(); and my query works if I replace '".$_SESSION['uid']['username'] ."'"; with 'specificusername' but when I run my current query displayed above it returns me all records with username = empty (I have some empty usernames for testing reasons). So that tells me that query cant find unique user name that is logged in. I don't get any errors and query still goes through. My datetable structure is

I have tried many different ways yesterday to modify my request ( WHERE username = $_SESSION['uid']; WHERE username = '".$_SESSION["uid"]) many other variations, but no matter what never returns logged in user information only empty username records. Can anyone see a problem with that query? or is it due to something else I'm missing?

I have 2 other scripts that are almost exact replicas of this script. Only difference is they are communicating with a different table...but its basically the EXACT same structure of code and functions. My tables consist of some int values, some varchar values, and the data submitted in these variables should get written to the table where the project ID is = to the id I'm working with. I have a form that uses a select box to pull all the names of our employees from the database. I then have a submit button that opens up a page. Hey Guys, I'm building a site to view images on, basically the image detail is stored in a database, the site is then accessed and a standard select query is used. I then get the image name etc pulled from the database. Is there a way to save that image name into a variable and get it to display on a form that is run from a function - completely independent to my viewing code...
Some sort of global variable, but that could change each time I viewed a different photo - and wouldn't have any effect on anyone else browsing the site etc - so the correct image name would always be passed? |
