I have some code to display the amount of views that page has got. In this case it is the thread in my forums section. I have used the same code to show how many people have views a certain persons profile page and that works fine but when I use it on my forum thread page I get this error. Quote You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'WHERE id='20' LIMIT 1' at line 1 Here is the section of code: Code: [Select] <?php $thread_id = preg_replace('#[^0-9]#i', '', $_GET['id']); $getThreadViews = mysql_query("SELECT view_count FROM forum_posts WHERE id='$thread_id' LIMIT 1") or die (mysql_error()); $row = mysql_fetch_assoc($getThreadViews); $counter = $row['view_count']; if($counter == 0){ $counter = 1; $startCounter = mysql_query("INSERT INTO forum_posts (view_count) VALUES ('$counter') WHERE id='$thread_id' LIMIT 1") or die (mysql_error()); } $threadViews = $counter+1; $appendCounter = mysql_query("UPDATE forum_posts SET view_count='$view_count' WHERE id='$thread_id'") or die (mysql_error()); ?> I have checked that there are no spelling errors so just wanted to show it to a fresh pair of eyes because its really starting to annoy me. Thanks in advance for any help. I have a strange problem. When a guest visits my contact-user.php page, they get a message telling them the must login before viewing the page. After the guest logs in, they view the same page and it tells them they have to login again (keeps on looping). But if they manually refresh that page with the "you must be logged in" message, it recognizes the login and lets them in. How can I get this page to immediately recognize that the user is logged in and not require them to refresh the page manually? Here is my code for contact-user.php <?php session_start(); header("Cache-Control: private, max-age=10800, pre-check=10800"); header("Pragma: private"); header("Expires: " . date(DATE_RFC822,strtotime("+2 day"))); include("connection.php"); mysql_select_db("database"); if (isset($_SESSION['username'])) { ******** MY HTML PAGE CONTENT ******** } else { echo "<meta http-equiv='REFRESH' content='2;url=http://www.mysite.com/login.php'> <center><font color='#EE0000'><p>You must be logged in before negotiating. You will now be redirect to the login page.</p></font></center>"; } ?> Here is my code for login.php script: <?php include("connection.php"); mysql_select_db("database"); session_start(); if(isset($_POST['login'])){ $username = mysql_real_escape_string($_POST['username']); $password = mysql_real_escape_string($_POST['password']); $tUnixTime = time(); $sGMTMySqlString = gmdate("Y-m-d H:i:s", $tUnixTime); if (!$username || !$password) { print "Please fill out all fields."; exit; } $logres = mysql_num_rows(mysql_query("SELECT * FROM members WHERE username = '$username' and password = '$password'")); if ($logres <= 0) { print "Login failed. If you have not already, please signup. Otherwise, check your spelling and login again."; exit; } else { $_SESSION['username'] = $username; if (isset($_SESSION)) { echo'You are now logging in'; mysql_query("UPDATE members SET activity = '$sGMTMySqlString' WHERE username = '$username'"); } else { echo "You are not logged in!"; } echo'<html><head><meta http-equiv="REFRESH" content="1;url=http://www.mysite.com/members/' . $_SESSION['username'] . Here's what I have so far: $db->execute("UPDATE `users` SET `hp`=?, `mp`=?, `energy`=? WHERE `id`=?", array($player->hp + $healspell, $player->mp - $spell['mp'], $player->energy - $spell['energy'], $player->id)); What do I need to do in this to tell it to limit it to the maxhp but never going over it? $healspell is a random number, so it is quite possible to go over the maxhp at the moment. Thank you! I'm a little new to this and inherited some code. I see this line of code but I don't know what it's suppose to do. if(date(s)%2 == 0) Can someone explain it to me? I'm thinking the s should be in quotes and I don't know what the %2 does Any guidance will be appreciated Hello I am creating a simple Discussion Forum, and I cant get past my IF Statement to verify topics exist? Please help? <?php //check for required info from the query string if (!$_GET[topic_id]) { header("Location: topiclist.php"); exit; } //connect to server and select database $link = mysql_connect('votpservicescom.ipagemysql.com', 'mantest', 'testman') or die(mysql_error()); mysql_select_db("learn2db",$link) or die(mysql_error()); Hi, I am having a problem with my Website mail. Basically the mail was working fine yesterday but last night I edited the PHP script slightly because for some reason the page that it was directed to had gone missing and was turning up an 404 error, which was just a newsuince as the email was still sent. So I just edited it so that it echo'ed a message saying thanks. but is seems today the mail is not getting to its destination. The PHP returns no errors and returns the success message fine but after saying its been sent it never appears. I have tried different email addresses on different servers and that was no use and I have also changed the code back to how it was yesterday. and it still doesn't work. I have also put the page up on one of my other sites which I know everything is set up properly and it works fine, making me think that it is a mail setup issue. but as I did not set up the mail at all and quite frankly don't really understand it, I don't know how it is meant to be set up as I just use google apps for sites that I set up. So yeah I am trying to work out what could have gone wrong since yesterday but I don't really understand it, below is the code as it as now and as it was yesterday: Code: [Select] <?php $EmailFrom = "johnshale@hotmail.co.uk"; $EmailTo = "matthale.live@gmail.com"; $Subject = "Website enquiry"; $Name = Trim(stripslashes($_POST['Name'])); $Tel = Trim(stripslashes($_POST['Tel'])); $Email = Trim(stripslashes($_POST['Email'])); $Message = Trim(stripslashes($_POST['Message'])); // validation $validationOK=true; if (!$validationOK) { print "<meta http-equiv=\"refresh\" content=\"0;URL=error.htm\">"; exit; } // prepare email body text $Body = ""; $Body .= "Name: "; $Body .= $Name; $Body .= "\n"; $Body .= "Tel: "; $Body .= $Tel; $Body .= "\n"; $Body .= "Email: "; $Body .= $Email; $Body .= "\n"; $Body .= "Message: "; $Body .= $Message; $Body .= "\n"; // send email $success = mail($EmailTo, $Subject, $Body, "From: <$EmailFrom>"); // redirect to success page if ($success){ print "<meta http-equiv=\"refresh\" content=\"0;URL=contactthanks.php\">"; } else{ print "<meta http-equiv=\"refresh\" content=\"0;URL=error.htm\">"; } ?> and the page is at www.sullyco.co.uk/contactengine.php as you can see the page is redirecting to a page that does not exist(contactthanks.php) indicating that the message was sent successfully. it is also the part I edited as a quick fix last night I just got it to echo a success message. Thanks for any help on this, I have been trying to work it out all morning, Matt Is there any way to prevent bots from getting past a math captcha? I have 2 numbers generated randomly (from 1 to 20) and they are displayed in an image with the following lines: one going from the upper left corner to the lower right corner one going from the upper right to the lower left a vertical line in the middle of the image and a horizontal line in the middle.... Now I keep getting bots posting on my comments page every few weeks...is there a more effective method I should try in order to stop this? I have the answer stored in a session variable. I was going to try random numbers from (1 to 100). I also have a php counter on my webpage that has a file that the number of hits is written to and it seems everytime the bots post get past my captcha, the number of hits in the file is overridden. (It will go from 538 views down to 10 views).... Any ideas??? Hi guys I have a script which displays the events on my calender throught the help of this code. In summary I basically was wondering how I could modify this code to display for events with a start and finish date: Code: [Select] IF(isset($events[$i])){ echo "<div align=\"left\"><span class=\"eventinbox\">\n"; while (list($key, $value) = each ($events[$i])) { echo " <a href=\"javascript:MM_openBrWindow('event.php?id=$value','','width=500,height=200');\">" . $event_info[$value]['1'] . " " . $event_info[$value]['0'] . "</a>\n<br>\n"; } echo "</span></div>\n"; } That above is the display the events on the calender and here is the select query: Code: [Select] $sql = mysql_query("SELECT * FROM the_event WHERE event_month='$month' AND event_year='$year' ORDER BY event_time"); while($info = mysql_fetch_array($sql)){ //planning to treat this as the event start date$day = $info['event_day']; //I just added this column which would be the event end date$day2 = $info['event_day2']; $event_id = $info['events_id']; $events[$day][] = $info['events_id']; $event_info[$event_id]['0'] = substr($info['event_title'], 0, 8);; $event_info[$event_id]['1'] = $info['event_time']; } Please let me know if you need more info Thanks I have a piece of .php that is supposed to create a type of calendar but it seems to be getting the date wrong and thinks that the date I've selected is 12/31/1969. Any ideas on how to get it to recognize the date I'm selecting in the form items? Thanks!
