PHP - Affixing Form Get Query To End Of Existing Query?
Say I have this query:
site.com?var=1 ..I have a form with 'var2' field which submits via get. Is there a way to produce: site.com?var=1&var2=formdata I was hoping there would be a quick way to affix, but can't find any info. Also, the query could sometimes be: site.com?var2=formdata&var=1 I would have to produce: site.com?var2=updatedformdata&var=1 Is my only option to further parse the query? Similar TutorialsHello all,
Based on the suggestion of you wonderful folks here, I went away for a few days (to learn about PDO and Prepared Statements) in order to replace the MySQLi commands in my code. That's gone pretty well thus far...with me having learnt and successfully replaced most of my "bad" code with elegant, SQL-Injection-proof code (or so I hope).
The one-and-only problem I'm having (for now at least) is that I'm having trouble understanding how to execute an UPDATE query within the resultset of a SELECT query (using PDO and prepared statements, of course).
Let me explain (my scenario), and since a picture speaks a thousand words I've also inlcuded a screenshot to show you guys my setup:
In my table I have two columns (which are essentially flags i.e. Y/N), one for "items alreay purchased" and the other for "items to be purchased later". The first flag, if/when set ON (Y) will highlight row(s) in red...and the second flag will highlight row(s) in blue (when set ON).
I initially had four buttons, two each for setting the flags/columns to "Y", and another two to reverse the columns/flags to "N". That was when I had my delete functionality as a separate operation on a separate tab/list item, and that was fine.
Now that I've realized I can include both operations (update and delete) on just the one tab, I've also figured it would be better to pare down those four buttons (into just two), and set them up as a toggle feature i.e. if the value is currently "Y" then the button will set it to "N", and vice versa.
So, looking at my attached picture, if a person selects (using the checkboxes) the first four rows and clicks the first button (labeled "Toggle selected items as Purchased/Not Purchased") then the following must happen:
1. The purchased_flag for rows # 2 and 4 must be switched OFF (set to N)...so they will no longer be highlighted in red.
2. The purchased_flag for row # 3 must be switched ON (set to Y)...so that row will now be highlighted in red.
3. Nothing must be done to rows # 1 and 5 since: a) row 5 was not selected/checked to begin with, and b) row # 1 has its purchase_later_flag set ON (to Y), so it must be skipped over.
Looking at my code below, I'm guessing (and here's where I need the help) that there's something wrong in the code within the section that says "/*** loop through the results/collection of checked items ***/". I've probably made it more complex than it should be, and that's due to the fact that I have no idea what I'm doing (or rather, how I should be doing it), and this has driven me insane for the last 2 days...which prompted me to "throw in the towel" and seek the help of you very helpful and intellegent folks. BTW, I am a newbie at this, so if I could be provided the exact code, that would be most wonderful, and much highly appreciated.
Thanks to you folks, I'm feeling real good (with a great sense of achievement) after having come here and got the great advice to learn PDO and prepared statements.
Just this one nasty little hurdle is stopping me from getting to "end-of-job" on my very first WebApp. BTW, sorry about the long post...this is the best/only way I could clearly explaing my situation.
Cheers guys!

What would cause this behavior - when I populate session vars from a MYSQL query, they stick, if I populate them from an MSSQL query, they drop. It doesn't matter if I get to the next page using a header redirect or a form submit. I have two session vars I'm loading from a MYSQL query and they remain, the two loaded from MSSQL disappear. I have confirmed that all four session vars are loading ok initially and I can echo them out to the page, but when the application moves to next page via redirect or form submit, the two vars loaded from MSSQL are empty. Any ideas? I have a clothing store website which displays all my products with a price range of $0-$25 great on left side of my webpage with the count number beside it like so. I am trying to have an UPDATE query run when I click an image on a web page. I just need to have the image call the function to run the mysql from the corresponding php file. The image is a form object, which I need the php function to recognize when it is clicked, and then run the query(ies) within. I don't really know much php, so the php code is based on a snippet I have from one of my other sites, which works fine over there, but I am missing something here that is keeping it from doing the same here. The page already loads and displays all values in a list associated with $show_id, so that variable is already being pulled from the web page in to the php code. I'm not going to paste the entire books.php file here as there are too many things it does which doesnt have anything to do with this little add-on I am making. I just need to be able to pull that variable in to the query below and have it run when I click on the icon associated with it. The php file also already has the proper config and settings files linked to it that connect to the database, so I do not need to set that up here. It is just a form, calling a function, and running the query. It is also not visible to the user side. It is in an admin page, only visible and accessible to me. This is code I have in the php file: function UpdateAllShowBooks() { if(strlen(($_POST['retired'])) > 0){ $sql = "UPDATE ttb_books SET status_id = '2' WHERE show_id='$show_id'"; $db = new database(); $db->myquery($sql, 1); header('Location:books.php?show_id=$show_id'); die(); } if(strlen(($_POST['upcoming'])) > 0){ $sql = "UPDATE ttb_books SET status_id = '37' WHERE show_id='$show_id'"; $db = new database(); $db->myquery($sql, 1); header('Location:books.php?show_id=$show_id'); die(); } if(strlen(($_POST['current'])) > 0){ $sql = "UPDATE ttb_books SET status_id = '1' WHERE show_id='$show_id'"; $db = new database(); $db->myquery($sql, 1); header('Location:books.php?show_id=$show_id'); die(); } } This is the current image/form html: <center><table width=25%> <tr><td valign="top" align="center"> <!--<form method="post" action="books.php?show_id={show_id}">--> <form method="post" action="books.php" name="retired"> <input type="image" src="../images/icon-Red_Light.png" width="20" name="retired" alt="Set status to Out of Print" title="Set status to Out of Print" onclick="return confirm('Set ALL status to Out of Print?')"> <input name="shid1" type="hidden" id="shid1" value="{show_id}" /> </form> </td><td valign="top" align="center"> <form method="post" action="books.php" name="upcoming"> <input type="image" src="../images/icon-Yellow_Light.png" width="20" name="upcoming" alt="Set status to Upcoming Release" title="Set status to Upcoming Release" onclick="return confirm('Set ALL status to Upcoming Release?')"> <input name="shid2" type="hidden" id="shid2" value="{show_id}" /> </form> </td><td valign="top" align="center"> <form method="post" action="books.php" name="current"> <input type="image" src="../images/icon-Green_Light.png" width="20" name="current" alt="Set status to In Print" title="Set status to In Print" onclick="return confirm('Set ALL status to In Print?')"> <input name="shid3" type="hidden" id="shid3" value="{show_id}" /> </form> </td></tr> </table></center> So clicking on the form image would call the function with that mysql string and update all items in the list accordingly. At this time, when I click the image, it reloads the page fine, but it is not activating the sql in the function and making the Update occur. Thank you for any help you can provide. I really appreciate it. Hi Members,
I am search for the reason for the problem why my mysql query cannot fetch data and store in file based on id in $variable form. For example, $sql="SELECT * FROM mytable WHERE mine_id='1234'"; works for me. But when i use $sql="SELECT * FROM mytable WHERE mine_id='$id'";, files are created as empty. I chanaged the quotes and could not store the data in file. So anyone please help me.

I'm having a few issues with a serach function in Internet Explorer, it works fine in firefox which is very annoying. What basically is happening, is the a form is sumbitting and posting info across, but on itself and then this is transfered into a php variable which is used on the query. Default values have been assigned if the isset of the form is not true. So I believe the issue is occuring on the " if(isset($_POST['submit'])) " but as stated it works perfectly fine in firefox. I am completely sideways right now trying to get this to work. Basically I am attempting to make a form that fetches results based on a drop down and then populates a text box that the user can then edit. I have several issues, first of all, I would have to use check boxes for if a user has a certain file on record. Which would be editable, however, I have had issues displaying tinyint values of -1 as true and 0 as false.
Secondly, writing the data back to the table after clicking a submit button, I have still issues with checkboxes here and am thoroughly confused to if I need to use an array or what here.
Thirdly, should I be using PDO or mysql for this? We have an older NAS device that I will be running this on and the firmware is older.
All the info is stored in the same table, and would be selecting a single record at a time for a user to edit. I was thinking I would just write back ALL values to the table when submit is clicked? Is that a bad idea?
As you can tell I just need someone to kick my butt in the right direction, I feel like I have read all the different ways to skin a cat but confused myself in the process.
Thanks

Hey guys, New to the forum and a newer user of PHP / MySQL. I am having trouble with some code I've written up. I don't seem to get any errors when running it, but it's not updating my database the way that it should. hopefully a simple fix. I am thinking that it must be on the MySQL side of things. Couple of things to start. My html form is comprised completely of drop down list inputs. I'm the only user so I thought this would be the easiest approach. Because of that I've made my PHP as follows: Code: [Select] <?php $season = $_POST['season']; $month = $_POST['month']; $day = $_POST['day']; $year = $_POST['year']; $time = $_POST['time']; $event = $_POST['event']; $game = $_POST['game']; $buyin = $_POST['buyin']; $connect = mysql_connect('localhost','root','') or die('can not connect'); if ($connect) { echo "connected to database"; } $db = mysql_select_db('dpl') or die('can not find database'); if ($db) { echo "DPL Selected"; } $query = sprintf("INSERT INTO events (season , month , day , year , time , event , game , buyin) VALUES ('%s' , '%s' , '%s' , '%s' , '%s' , '%s' , '%s' , '%s')", $season , $month , $day , $year , $time , $event , $game , $buyin ); if ($query) { echo "Your event has been added"; } ?> My connection is working, my database is selected and I'm even now getting confirmation that my query is working, but when i go to check my database there are no entries in it? any thoughts? I've tried the drop down variables as both VARCHAR and TEXT inputs in MySQL, but I can't seem to get it to work. Any help is greatly appreciated. I'm very new to this and really could use some help. I've got a Web app that has one form that collects data from the user and puts it into a mysql database and has another form that allows the user to select critiera to find records in the database and display them on the page. All this is working just fine, but now that my database is getting more data in it, I want to add functionality to display 10 records on a page with results page navigation links so the user can move forward and backward in the results set. This part is not working and I've put in echo statements to figure out what the code is doing. The problem I'm having is that when the selection critiera pulls more than 10 records from the database, the first page of results is correct per the selection criteria entered by the user on the select form. When the 'next' link is selected to review the second page of results, the query is executed again. But this time the form variables have been reset and the results now contains the entire contents of the db. The start record is set to look at the 11th instance of the results set, so the second page starts with the 11th record in the database instead of the 11th record in the original results set. The original select statement is built by determining which criteria is selected using $_POST against each form variable. How can I retain the form variables or the original select statement so the second execution of the select statement results in the same results set as the first? The other option that may be better is to retain the original results set and avoid re-executing the select statement altogether. But I don't know how to do that either. Any suggestions, code samples or adivice is much appreciated! Hi. I have an input field where a date is entered, format dd-mm-yy. I need to query the database to see if this date exists. How can I convert the date to yyyymmdd before the query? Thanks Good Day Guys
I have a bit of a urgent problem.
Here is my Query:
$query = "SELECT distinct Img.propertyId as PropertyId, Title, ImageUrl, Location, Bedrooms, Bathrooms, Parking, Price FROM PROPERTIES as Prop LEFT JOIN IMAGES as Img ON Img.PropertyId = Prop.PropertyId WHERE 1=1 AND Price >=1000 AND Price <=5000 "; I am trying to create a query which reads and uses a previous query which could go on for upto four queries. For example: Query: $carcolour(red), Query: $carmodel(ford), Query: $enginesize(1600), Query: $carlocation(New York) This displays all red cars, which are Ford, which 1600CC, which are located in New York. or Query: $enginesize(1600), Query: $carcolour(red), Query: $carmodel(ford), Query: $carlocation(New York) This displays all 1600CC cars, which red car, which are Ford, which are located in New York. (Same result as above) I have found this guide but Im not sure it what I am looking for. I have also come across the Join function. However this seems to be based on joining two seperate queries. http://www.suite101.com/content/how-tor-run-multiple-mysql-queries-with-php-a105672 Can anyone advise on the best way to create a set of queries which reads and uses the results of the previous query? |
