PHP - Array Range Function

I am having some problems getting a query correct. Basically I have two tables, one with listings and another with categories. In the listings table I have a column called shortdescription.

I am trying to pull the shortdescription from the listings table with the query

$shortdesc = array_shift(mysql_fetch_row(mysql_query("select shortdescription from links where category = '".$scat->id."' ")));

The shortdecription display properly on the pages display the listings, however I am getting the following error on any pages that only display the parent categories


Warning: array_shift() [function.array-shift]: The argument should be an array in /home/...path/file.php on line 1462

The listings id numbers begin at 75+ because the initial parent category id ends at 74. The query seems to be searching for listing ids below 75 and spitting out an error because it is not finding them.

Any ideas on how to eliminate this error and/or stop the query from looking for non-existant data?

I want to define a function instead of repeating query in all my php pages. I call a function by passing an $id value and from that function i have to get all the info related to that id, like name, description and uom.    I am trying to do this, but i dont know how to get these values seperately.   here is my function

In my main script I set $errorArray with values when required survey questions go unanswered.

The ne code that checks for missing required values is working perfectly, and right before I pass $errorArray to a function which rebuilds the survey questions - this time with the error messages - I do a var_dump($errorArray) and that array has errors in it as expected.

But while my function that re-builds the survey questions gets called and does indeed re-build the survey questions, the $errorArray isn't getting pased for some strange reason?

(I'm not sure if i have ever passed an array to a function before.)

In my function I have...

	function generateSurveyItem($dbc, $questionNo, $questionID, $surveyResponseArray=NULL, $errorArray=NULL){
	 
	}
	

 

When I var_dump($errorArray) at the top of the function, and submit a blank form, I end up with a blank page and a file path to my PHP script ending with...

	/public_html/utilities/function.php:3010:null
	

 

Questions:

1.) What is happening?

 

2.) I thought =NULL in the parameter list just meant that the argument is "optional"?

 

3.) I am able to successfully pass $surveyResponseArray to this function, so what is up with $errorArray?

 

P.S.  When I run things, and submit an empty form - thus no "required" fields get completed - the survey gets re-displays, and any values chosen are "sticky", but my error messages should also be displayed to let the user know what is mising, and that is the part that isn't working?

This has to be something silly stupid to fix...

What i am trying to do is pull the value filename out off the array and pass it into another vairable in the fucntion which is what i am trying to do with these two lines of code.

I keep getting this error what am i doing wrong?

I am hoping you can help me find out why a function of mine is only returning 1 record when I am asking for 10.

Here is the function I am using to get the data.

When I run the $sql that is printed in phpmyadmin.... I get then records. But when I print the $event_data I am only getting 1 record.

Hi im having some trouble when i try to add values to an array from a function. The added value will not stay saved.
fun1 will display both firstname and surname but when i call fun2 after calling fun1 i just get the firstname.

I would like to have it so the array is updated and stays updated untill it is cleared or over written.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. i am using codeigniter if that makes any difference.

I'm working on a Wordpress theme, and I'm assigning my own image to the navi list.

So far assigning the image to the corresponding works if I type in the path manually, but the only problem I'm experiencing is assigning the correct path to the image with a Wordpress specific function, here's the code:

How can I make a multiple function array?

i'm setting up reminders for users and fetch_reminders does what it says... fetches all the reminder functions. Well that's what I want it to do and the other functions are just checks.

How can I make $reminder and array of the functions that I want checked? Is this the best way to do it?

I hope I'm not being a vampire here sucking the life out of you guys, but I can't find any resources in google that explains how to properly use this function in a mysql array. All it does is add a url for any urls added in plaintext.

insertPersons method is as such:

The logic works by firstly checking to see if an Author exists, if so they are inserted into PeopleCon, if not they are inserted into People AND PeopleCon. This all works perfectly..


But now what  i need to do is build an update method where users can edit the authors also. The logic would be more or less the same, but i wouldn't neeed an insertpersons method, i would need to change it, and also the script would edit the existing authors, and if anymore are added apply the same method as above.

Can anyone help me out as to how i should go about tackling this?
