PHP - Variable Creation From Table - Beginners Question

I am learning PHP and I am wondering what I put after my SQL connection info so that I can create a variable $id

$id = <what goes here>

How do I make $id to store the unique number in this variable..

For example edit.php?id=100 how does it store this number...thanks...

Sorry, this will be a simple question.  Say you define two global variables in your functions.php file as:
GLOBAL  $salesTax = .07;
GLOBAL $shipping = 5.00;

Those variables would be accessiible in the checkout.php page, right? 

I have a question on when PHP will allocate space in the code.  Does it happen up front, or as the code executes?

In this example, does $foo get created?

The org variable holds the value of the folder name. The problem is that the header is sending out ".$org." and not the actual value of $org.

Example output url: http://127.0.0.1/application/".$org."/display/trackingboard.php

I want this url if the value is test: http://127.0.0.1/application/test/display/trackingboard.php

and which of the above will satisfy

Currently the output is an email with a total of 15 numbers,
i.e. SUBJECT:  [ 000000001718989 ] Random $notifytype Notification

I want to remove the 0's

Would something like this work or is this not possible?

"[ (substr($rawticket,9)) ] Random $notifytype Notification";

I'm having a complete brainfart right now and can't seem to remember this.  Tried looking it up in the manual, but couldn't find an example.  Here's what I have:

    function testA {
        

    }

    function testB {

    }
}



So that's my basic setup.  I want to define a variable.  I then want to set it's value in testA().  I then want to be able to access the value in testB().  Where and how do I define this variable?

I thought all I had to do was something like:


class myclass {

    public $tempvar='';
    
    function testA {
        $tempvar="my new value";

    }

    function testB {
        echo $tempvar;

    }
}


But this says that $tempvar is equal to NULL.  What am I forgetting?  Thanks in advance!

I have a mysql table for my setups, it contains basically three fields: 'id','variable','value'.

i want to create/name a variable from a result from the database and then from another field it should give the newly created variable its value

The table is already filled with the variables i want to use, now i just want my index page to get the different variable out of the table with the value as its value. Is that even possible?

so lets say i have a variable in my table called 'header_color' the value in that table row is 'FFF'

i want my index to get all variable from the database (through a while??) with again its value as a value.
This is my thought:

$sql = mysql_query("SELECT * FROM setup");
while ($res = mysql_fetch_array($sql)){
   $res[variable]; = $??my_variable??;
   $myvariable = $res[value];
}
 


and so when i have my div for my header i want it to be <div style="background-color:#<?=$header_color?>"> resulting in <div style="background-color:#FFF> in my table under variable it has the name "header_color" and under value "FFF"

maybe i need to create an array or something i have no idea.

I have a query:

$query ="select * FROM telephone_admin where name Like ' ".$_GET['answer']." ' ";

I would like to add % before and after so that the query will search for result which contains the PHP variable $_GET['answer'] before or after,

but the problem is how can I add % before or after ' ".$_GET['answer']." ' within the query??

hi guys.
i am trying to set a variable to the session global variable. I've initialized the session with session_start();  at the very beginning of my website, and then i try finding if a session variable has been set like so if(isset($_SESSION['user'])) { print 'user is logged in'; } but this works in reverse.  i have not set any session variables, but asking if it is set, results in an affirmative answer.

so i am thinking this is because of register_globals. because i went to read about register_globals, and it says that if register_globals is turned off, i cannot use any other varibale except members of the session array. i dont know what that is yet, but a question befo in the php manual it says register_globals is deprecated, and it appears i need to enable it to set other variables as session variables besides it's associative array. if this is true, how to enable register_globals and allow other variables to be used as session variables?

Hi, i cant seem to get something working, should be simple but its not working for me.

I just need to only display a table if a variable in my table = a certain value.

The column in the table is called 'option1_available' and if its value is set to 'Y' i want it to display a table.

I'm working on a PHP register form, all I want to do, is to be able to insert an extra variable into the database:

right, so I have the username and password variable being passed. But I also want to pass a variable into a column called 'weaponAttachments', all I want for this variable to be is 5000.

So, in other words, something like this: 5000['weaponAttachments']

I'm trying to drop a table form a database using the table name as a variable. This variable is set within a session. I am using a form where you input the table name, then the DROP TABLE procedure is executed in the next page.

I know that the variable gets passed because it prints the table name variable out when I "echo".

The execution is simple (code found in deletetable.php)
