PHP - Trying To Search A Mysql Db Using Php Code Searching Html Form
I'm trying to do something that I thought was very simple about 2 weeks ago :-(
I want to put a form on my site and link it to a database so when a user types a surname into the form they can search the db and the page will only display the surnames that match the search criteria. I got the db set up using phpmyadmin in about 2 minutes flat, but keep getting error messages when I write the php. I'm currently working with the below script, which keeps giving me the error 'unexpected T_string' on line 176 I've searched every forum and help site I can find, and the mysql and php manuals are just mind-boggling. I'm sure I'm making some really amateur mistake, but I'd really appreciate help with this! thanks all! <html> <head> <title>SEARCH RECORDS</title> </head> <body> <FORM NAME ="Search" METHOD ="POST" ACTION = "test3"> <INPUT TYPE = "TEXT" VALUE ="surname" NAME = "surname"> <INPUT TYPE = "Submit" Name = "Search" VALUE = "Search"> </FORM> </body> </html> <? $user_name = "*****"; $password = "*****"; $database = "*****"; $server = "localhost"; $db_handle = mysql_connect($server, $user_name, $password); $db_found = mysql_select_db($database, $db_handle); if ($db_found) { $SQL = "SELECT * FROM *****" WHERE surname=$_POST['surname']; $result = mysql_query($SQL); while ($db_field = mysql_fetch_assoc($result)) { print $db_field['Grave'] . "<BR>"; print $db_field['Surname'] . "<BR>"; print $db_field['Forenames'] . "<BR>"; print $db_field['Death_Date'] . "<BR>"; print $db_field['Birth_Year'] . "<BR>"; } mysql_close($db_handle); } else { print "Database NOT Found "; mysql_close($db_handle); } ?> Similar TutorialsI have a form passing user's search term, ie name. $pname = mysql_real_escape_string($pname; Not sure on proper syntax to include this in my select statement. I also want it to return for partial string matched, like 'mik' for 'mike': $result = mysql_query( "SELECT * FROM guest WHERE name like '$pname'" ); Hi. I currently have php java to get my database results and limit the amount of data shown by a given value. The js includes buttons to go forward or backward in the database. Everything is all fine and dandy except I'm trying to add a very simple search for the user as well. I want the user to be able to select either "firstname" or "lastname" to search through the database and display the resulting rows based of the first three characters entered into the search criteria. I'm not sure where to start on this... Do I have to add something the js (I'm not very familiar with js), or should I add mysql_query's in the php linked file? When someone enter in search form "dota allstars", if in mysql is no such a thing like that at table "news", i wonna to find similar data, how can i do that? I'm using some code to create a select menu of a fieldname of data I have in a mysql database : Code: [Select] <?php mysql_connect('localhost' , 'dbname', 'password'); mysql_select_db('dbname'); $result=mysql_query("SELECT * FROM Persons"); if(mysql_num_rows($result)>0) { ?> <select name="Persons"> <?php while($rows=mysql_fetch_array($result)){ ?> <option value="<?php echo $rows['id']; ?>"> <?php echo $rows['FirstName']; ?></option> <?php } ?> </select> What I would like to do is to elevate this into a jump menu form so that if the user selects an item from my form they are taken to a results page showing the full row of data from the database. Basically a search form containing items from the database they can choose to see more details on. eg. In my example you select a persons name and then you are taken to a results page which displays the details of that person from the database. Problem is I don't know how to do this and have been trawling around for a couple of days to find a solution (sorry I'm new to php). I would appreciate some help or a working example would be great of : 1/ A working dynamic jump menu 2/ The page that would process the form 3/ The results page displaying the data I have selected. Thank you for your time... Hello. I have been following a great tutorial that I found here regarding searching a database: Tutorial: http://www.phpfreaks.com/tutorial/simple-sql-search I was very happy to find and implement this as I have been looking to understand this for some time now. When I used this and ran it from my server (doing a search of the database), I bookmarked the page; my question relates to the next step: When I return to the page via the bookmark the actual search has been saved and is displayed, not just the search form. I do not understand this. This is the search page as noted (search term is "kim"): http://bluelinedown.netau.net/new_test.php?search=Kim&body=on&title=on&desc=on&matchall=on&submit=Search! I need it to be so that each time a user goes to this search page, no prior search is displayed and it is, of course, available for a new search. Is this issue related to sessions? And if so, how? Below is the actual code I am using for this search function/page: <?php /***************************** * Simple SQL Search Tutorial by Frost * of Slunked.com ******************************/ $dbHost = 'mysql7.000webhost.com'; // localhost will be used in most cases // set these to your mysql database username and password. $dbUser = '********'; $dbPass = '*******'; $dbDatabase = 'a4542527_test1'; // the database you put the table into. $con = mysql_connect($dbHost, $dbUser, $dbPass) or trigger_error("Failed to connect to MySQL Server. Error: " . mysql_error()); mysql_select_db($dbDatabase) or trigger_error("Failed to connect to database {$dbDatabase}. Error: " . mysql_error()); // Set up our error check and result check array $error = array(); $results = array(); // First check if a form was submitted. // Since this is a search we will use $_GET if (isset($_GET['search'])) { $searchTerms = trim($_GET['search']); $searchTerms = strip_tags($searchTerms); // remove any html/javascript. if (strlen($searchTerms) < 3) { $error[] = "Search terms must be longer than 3 characters."; }else { $searchTermDB = mysql_real_escape_string($searchTerms); // prevent sql injection. } // If there are no errors, lets get the search going. if (count($error) < 1) { $searchSQL = "SELECT id, name, descrip FROM people WHERE "; // grab the search types. $types = array(); $types[] = isset($_GET['id'])?"`id` LIKE '%{$searchTermDB}%'":''; $types[] = isset($_GET['name'])?"`name` LIKE '%{$searchTermDB}%'":''; $types[] = isset($_GET['descrip'])?"`descrip` LIKE '%{$searchTermDB}%'":''; $types = array_filter($types, "removeEmpty"); // removes any item that was empty (not checked) if (count($types) < 1) $types[] = "`name` LIKE '%{$searchTermDB}%'"; // use the body as a default search if none are checked $andOr = isset($_GET['matchall'])?'AND':'OR'; $searchSQL .= implode(" {$andOr} ", $types) . The page is at: www.giantstridedives.com/locations. You can see that it's pretty boring. Hit submit and you'll see the entries so far (only 3 right now). I'd like to have the latest 10 display there by default but then when a user searches they are replaced by the search results. Make sense? Here's the code I'm using for the search: Code: [Select] <?php if (isset($_POST['submit'])) { require_once('dbconnection.php'); mysqli_select_db($conn, $dbname); $searchterm = $_POST['search']; $searchterm = strip_tags($searchterm); $searchterm = trim ($searchterm); $q ="SELECT * FROM locations WHERE loc_name LIKE '%" . $searchterm . "%' AND loc_approved != '0'"; $r = mysqli_query($conn, $q) or die(mysql_error($q)); $row = mysqli_fetch_assoc($r); $rowcount = mysqli_num_rows($r); } ?> <h1>Search for Scuba Dive Locations</h1> <form id="searchform" name="searchform" method="post" action="index.php"> <input type="text" name="search" id="search_bar" /> <input type="submit" name="submit" id="submit" value="Submit" /> </form> <span style="color: #333;">Search for the name of the location, ie: Devils Den or USS Oriskany.</span><br /> <?php if (isset($_POST['submit'])) { if ($rowcount == 0) { echo "Sorry, but we can not find an entry to match your query: <strong>$searchterm</strong>"; } else { //this tells the table below to display since $totalRows_Products_res is not 0 ?> <table style="font-size: 14px;" border="0" width="650"> <tr> <td colspan="6"><p>You searched for <strong><?php echo $searchterm; ?></strong>. Results are displayed below.</p></td> </tr> <tr> <td><strong>Location Name</strong></td> <td><strong>City</strong></td> <td><strong>State</strong></td> <td><strong>Depth (ft)</strong></td> <td><strong>Fees</strong></td> <td><strong>Gear Rentals</strong></td> <td><strong>Map</strong></td> </tr> <?php do { ?> <tr> <td><a href="loc_details.php?loc_id=<?php echo $row ['loc_id']; ?>"> <?php echo $row ['loc_name']; ?> </a></td> <td><?php echo $row ['loc_city']; ?></td> <td><?php echo $row ['loc_state']; ?></td> <td><?php echo $row ['loc_depth']; ?></td> <td>$<?php echo $row ['loc_fee']; ?></td> <td><?php if($row['loc_gear'] == 1) { echo 'Yes'; } else { echo 'No'; } ?></td> <td><a href="http://maps.google.com/maps?q=<?php echo $row ['loc_lat'];?>,<?php echo $row ['loc_lon'];?>" target="_blank">View Map</a></td> </tr> <?php } while ($row = mysqli_fetch_assoc($r)); ?> </table> <?php mysqli_free_result($r); } // this closes out results else } ?> I figure I can use the below query to get the results. Code: [Select] select * from table WHERE id > ((SELECT MAX(id) from table) - 10);I'm just not sure how I can display them by default and then have them be replaced by the search results. Anyone have any ideas for me? As always I appreciate the help as I continue to learn this beast. There are two pieces to this- The HTML Form and the resulting php. I can't seem to make the leap, from the code to having the form produce the php page so others can view it until the form is again submitted overwriting the php, thus generating new content. As an example assuming i have a searach page on which the user can enter search criteria into the following fields: name - text box site_location - drop down box (default set to 'search all') job_title - drop down box (default set to 'search all') manager - drop down box (default set to 'search all') email - textbox Its easy when all fields have user data set or one has user data set but when the user has entered data into only a couple of the fields I have problems constructing the SQL query, namely when it comes to adding the 'AND' keyword into the SQL query. No matter how i try to set out the logic in the PHP code i seem to end up with at least one combination of the search critea leading to back to back AND statements. I construct the SQL query by appending a string variable $query with the relevant search criteria, for example: $query = "select * from employees where "; if ($_POST['name'] != null) { $query=$query."name='".$_POST['name']."' "; } if ($_POST['site_location'] != 'all') { $query=$query."AND site_location='".$_POST['site_loaction']."' "; } //etc This does not work out though when fields are empty, I have tried adding additional if statements to check ahead to see if fields further down in the query are required and if so append an 'and' but I cannot seem to get the logic correct. Is this something anyone else has come accross, if so is there a better solution than the route i am going down? Thanks for reading. Dear All, Greetings! I am a student and have a final semester project of making a php based form to search a database. Database is already created: Username: test password: test1 Details: DB Name: resume_bank, Table Name: Candidate Table contents: Name, Phone, Address, DOB, Gender, Designation, experience_yrs, experience_months, Employment_Status I need the code which would give the user an option to search using AND, OR, ALL functions. Friends please help. The form should look like: Enter the Designation you are looking for: Enter the experience: Yrs___ Months___ Select Gender: The result must come in another webpage which has numbered display results, like page-1, page-2, page3... PLEASE HELP URGENTLY!!!!!!! ANY BODY HAS READY MADE CODE PLEASE SEND IT!!!!!! Thanks. Need some help I have 2 tables in a database and I need to search the first table and use the results from that search, to search another table, can this be done? and if it can how would you recommend that I go about it? Thanks For Your Help Guys! im trying to crete a page that will search mysql for entrys from ??? days previous. ive not started on the php yet as i wanted to get the query done but im having a slight problem. date is in dd/mm/yyyy format. if i run this query SELECT * FROM `dsgi_serval` WHERE date >= '10/09/2010' it ONLY sorts by DD and not MM or YYYY, so anything greater than the 10th of the month shows regardless of what month. when i get to the php ill either do a drop down box with a preset number or days or a text box where u enter the number of days or even a txt box u enter the actual day u want to search from. im undecided which would be best. another problem i face with the php is how to tell the script to search from ? ?? when it says search from the past 3 days? <?php $date = date("d/m/y"); // todays date 04/12/2010 $_post= 3 days; // search from 01/12/2010 $date - $_post = $search; // 01/12/2010; $sql="SELECT * FROM $tbl_name" where date >= '$search'; echo the results ?> i no the above is not proper php but i hope it saya what im trying to do. Thanks Hello, I am working on a project and I cant seem to get this to work. I have a database (Kingsbury) that stores a contact list. I am trying to make an page were a user can search the database by state. The code from the HTML site is: Code: [Select] <form action = "sqlllist.php" method="post"><br /> Please enter the state you would like to search: <input type="text" name="state" /><br /> <p><input type="submit" value="Enter" /></p> </form> And then from the .php file Code: [Select] <?php $DBConnect = mysql_connect("*****", "*****", "********"); if ($DBConnect===FALSE) echo "<p>Connection Failed!.</p>\n"; else { $State == $_POST['state']; $Result = mysql_select_db("Kingsbury", $DBConnect); $queryresult = @mysql_query("SELECT * FROM contacts WHERE State = $State'", $DBConnect); echo "<table width='100%' border='1'>\n"; echo "<tr><th>User ID</th> <th>First Name</th> <th>Last Name</th> <th>Address</th> <th>State</th> <th>City</th> <th>Zip Code</th> <th>Area Code</th> <th>Phone Number</th>\n"; While (($Row = mysql_fetch_row($queryresult)) !== FALSE) { echo "<tr><td>{$Row[0]}</td>"; echo "<td>{$Row[1]}</td>"; echo "<td>{$Row[2]}</td>"; echo "<td>{$Row[3]}</td>"; echo "<td>{$Row[4]}</td>"; echo "<td>{$Row[5]}</td>"; echo "<td>{$Row[6]}</td>"; echo "<td>{$Row[7]}</td>"; echo "<td>{$Row[8]}</td>"; } echo "</table>\n"; mysql_free_result($queryresult); mysql_close($DBConnect); } ?> This, to me seems like it should be working, but it outputs the entire database. Hey guys, im trying to select only certain rows that matchs the address in a array. Not sure how to do this This is making the array $siege_check3 = "SELECT address FROM planets WHERE siege='".mysql_real_escape_string($_SESSION['goauld'])."'"; $siege_check2 = mysql_query($siege_check3) or die(mysql_error()); $arr = array(); while($siege_check1 = mysql_fetch_array($siege_check2)) { $siege_planets = $siege_check1['address']; $arr[] = $siege_planets; } Then I want to AND grab rows where defender_planet equals one of the address in the array above tried using in_array but telling me its not a valid function $alert3 = "SELECT * FROM travel WHERE defender_id = '" .($_SESSION['user_id'])."' AND stance = 2 AND stealth_tech < '".($stealth_tech)."' AND address= in_array(defender_planet,$arr) ORDER BY arrived_time DESC"; $alert2 = mysql_query($alert3) or die(mysql_error()); while($alert1 = mysql_fetch_assoc($alert2)) { } Hi there,
I'm a bit of a newbie and I have done a search online, but i'm still confused.
I need to search my MYSQL database in a filed named date_mod I need to search for todays date only $date=gmdate("Y-m-d");
But however the field is a datetime option so how can I search only todays date and not both date and time.
Thank you for reading.
Hello guys, I am a new programmer and i am building a new website. I would like to give me your advice for the following problem: I want to build a webpage, in which there will be a <div id="book-content"> ...............</div> part. Inside this div i would like to dynamically display pages from a book. Each page will have text, scripting code blocks, blocks with the output of each scripting code, and images. There will be a bar on the left of the webpage in which the user can select which page of the book he wants to load. For example...My web page will look something like this... Code: [Select] <HTML> <HEAD> </HEAD> <BODY> <DIV ID="PAGE-HEADER"> //LOGO OF THE WEB PAGE </DIV> <DIV ID="PAGE-MENU"> //PAGE MENU </DIV> <DIV ID="BOOK-INDEX" WITH FLOAT:LEFT > //HERE A WILL SHOW THE CHAPTERS OF THE BOOK AND THE PAGES OF EACH CHAPTER </DIV> <DIV ID="BOOK-PAGE"> //THE PAGE SELECTED FROM THE PREVIOUS 'BOOK-INDEX' MENU WILL BE DISPLAYED HERE WITH A MYSQL QUERY ****** </DIV> </BODY> </HTML> Then in a mysql database, i would like to have records with a text field, that will contain for example the followng: <h1> Chapter 1: bla bla </h1> <p> in this chapter we will speak about bla bla bla.... </p> <div id="code"> int main() { int x,y; x=2; y=3; x=x+y; } </div> <p> this will outpout the following:</p> <div id="code output"> x=5! </div> I would like to get this html code from the database, and then show it in the <div id=BOOK-PAGE> div. But i dont want to use php eval(). Also, if i store the code to a file and then include it, i will have too may files(equal to the book's number of pages etc 100). Any ideas? Hi everyone. I've two MySQL tables (tbl_csv_input & tbl_qn_types). Table Details: 1. tbl_csv_input (qid, qname, qn_answer, qn_type) Primary Key = qid; Foreign Key = qn_type ref tbl_qn_types qn_type_id 2. tbl_qn_types (qn_type_id, qn_type_name, notes) Primary Key = qn_type_id Sample Data: tbl_csv_input 1 ; Ferrari is the fastest car? ; Yes||No ; T1 2 ; Which below features would you like to have in you... ; Navigator||Airbag||Seat Belt||Camera & Sensors ; T1 3 ; Which model would you prefer? ; CX||MX||SX||LX ; T2 4 ; Comments ; ; T3 tbl_qn_types T1; checkbox; This qn type is used for yes/no T2; radio; Multiple options but only one is correct T3; text area; Users enter input like comments The whole idea is to have a questionnaire displayed in a HTML table depending upon the question types (T1, T2, T3) In simple terms: You have a question and below it there are options. Some questions have check boxes and some have radio buttons and some have text areas. The problem I'm facing is with the column: qn_answer; and column = qn_type. I'm unable to make a loop inside a table which is already in a loop. Please see the attached files (which has the code I've written). TIA.
