PHP - Putting A Unique Auto Increment Id Into A Session Variable Without A Queryt

Is there a way to copy an auto-increment value (`id`) into another field in the same table (`org_id`)?

So, when someone creates a new organization, it will copy the new auto-increment value into the org_id field. Is this possible?

is there a way to save a field in a session or variable while its being inserted into the data base?
with out having to select it using another query

$mail2 = "INSERT INTO pm SET pm_id = '', (turn pm_id into a $variable or session) WHERE blah blah blah

the problem im having is Im creating two rows right after each other where each row is in differant tables and I need them to match ids and I have nothing to compare it to.

only option i can think of is making a fast toggle switch or telling my select to grab in order which would work.

hey guys i have this invoice im working on but my clients  want's the invoice id start at a specific  number?   do it put that number in phpmyadmin direct on the line null?or can i do it another way?

Hi everyone,   I have an application that makes use of a transaction, inserting and updating values in different tables. One of the first tables it inserts into has an auto increment ID field. This ID values is used / updated in some other tables. Everything works fine. If however the transaction fails then the auto_increment values are upset - meaning that the sequence is jumped.   For ex. if I had auto_increment values from 1 to 6 in this table and then the insert query fails for an auto_increment value of ID=7, then this value of ID = 7 is lost because the next time the query is run the auto_increment ID value will be equal to 8 and accordingly updated in the tables. ID value = 7 is lost. Is there any way to prevent this ? Please know that this is a multi - user application.   Thanks.          

i'm need to retrieve a session after i've collected the data and went to PayPal (...urk...)  i think i'm starting off correctly... but how the hell do i get the session name on the other side?

once i come back from PayPal... this is where i get lost.  how do i load a UUID-based session if i can't get the $uuid?   

and if there's a better way, by all means let me know!    someone said i could pass the $uuid through PayPal, but i'm not seeing how yet...

I'm trying to take a number of items from a database using a while loop and put the results into a variable so that I can send one email with all the results.  I'm having trouble figuring this out though.  Can anyone please give me any ideas as to how to make this work?  Here's what I've done so far... all it does is result in an email with the first set of results in the while loop, not all of them.

how would i loop through and divide these into different

.. and so on (if more words)

My login script stores the user's login name as $_SESSION[ 'name'] on login. For some unapparent reason, i'm getting errors stating that $user  and $priv are  undefined variables, though I've attempted to define $user as being equal to $_SESSION['name'], using $user to look up the the user's privilege level (stored as the su column ) in the SQL table, and then where the result of the sql query is $priv which is then evaluated in an if statement. I can't seem to figure out why this might not be working.

I can get Test 2 to successfully operate the if statement using a variable variable.

But when I try the same method using a session variable (Test 1) the if statement is not executed. Please could you tell me why the if statement in Test 1 is not being executed?

Basically I'm trying to set up a shopping cart using PHP & MySql (oh really!?) and I've gotten to the point where I need to insert the bought products into a database.

Currently, at the checkout, there is a session which stores data for all of the products which have been added into the cart.

From here I am just trying to create an order id code that is only relevant to this session.

So in the database it would end up looking something like this:

order_id = 001, product_id = 2, order_quantity = 3
order_id = 001, product_id = 4, order_quantity = 2
order_id = 001, product_id = 1, order_quantity = 5
order_id = 002, product_id = 2, order_quantity = 3
order_id = 002, product_id = 4, order_quantity = 2
order_id = 002, product_id = 1, order_quantity = 5

So I would be able to pull these results later by selecting the order relevant to the order_id.

At least I think this is the easiest option for me.

Every product which is put into the cart has a $_SESSION name of 'product_x', 'x' being the id associated with that product

Ever had the feeling your being a spoon and can't see the wood for the trees? Well, that's how I feel today.

All I am trying to to is implement a variable in a "foreach" loop that increments by one through each iteration of the loop. I know how to do it in a "for" loop but can't for the life of me get it to work here. Here is the code:

Where I have highlighted $needavariablehere is where I want a number to appear i.e. if there is one item available and the foreach loop iterates once I want the number 1 here. If there are two items and the foreach loop iterates twice I want the output to have number 1 in the first line and number 2 the second time around and so on.

How many times the foreach loop iterates is based on the $cart array which contains items in a shopping cart.

I have a mysql table which will store users email addresses (each is unique and is the primary field) and a timestamp. 
I have added another column called `'unique_code' (varchar(64), utf8_unicode_ci)`.

What I would very much appreciate assistance with is;

a) Generating a 5 digit alphanumeric code, ie: 5ABH6 
b) Check all rows the 'unique_code' column to ensure it is unique, otherwise re-generate and check again 
c) Insert the uniquely generated 5 digit alphanumeric code into `'unique_code'` column, corresponding to the email address just entered. 
d) display the code on screen.

What code must I put and where?
