PHP - Php Code + Fopen + Writing Php Code
Alright so I'm attempting to save config data via php. Bellow is the code I currently have, however I'm afraid that when I "flip the switch" and use it that it will error out because of the <?php and ?> tags inside of it... Ideas, suggestions?

Because there are two ways to register, through Facebook and through the website itself, there has to be an if statement in this page that it crates as to which ID to use for that user. Because Facebook usernames are not unique, we must identify a user through their OAuth User ID which is a 10 digit number. When a user registers through the website itself, usernames are unique so their profile page can be ID'd by their username. Hey guys, I'm opening a HTML file from my server, and i can successfully echo it both as code to show the page, and as code which the person can then edit in a <textarea>. However, there are certain sections of the code i do not what echo'd to the page. What is the best way to go about stipping them? Until I switched to Plesk 9 I had no trouble writing a log file for an application that I wrote. It used PHP's FOPEN() command. It would write the file as the user. Now it does not write at all. If I run it manually it the file is owned by siteadmin but writes it as as root:root.. If I run it through a browser it is owned by apache:apache. What's changed? It was written and saved as the main site user, such as "siteadmin" on Plesk. Now PHP reports that it is unable to open or save the file. Permissions. We've changed nothing. This script has run since 2002 using chmod 644. We worked around this by creating an external script and using a CRON to write the file and this works fine. This suggests that the user has permission to open and write the file! Imagine our confusion. Don't laugh, but this server still has PHP 4.3.9, which adds to the confusion. I spent 10 minutes writing up my issue after I copy and pasted my code inside the [code=auto:0] brackets. Then, what do you know? I submitted my post with all my writing below my [code=auto:0] brackets and BOOM it was all gone. Only my code was showing. That's what issued Requinex to reply like that, it's a nasty forum bug.

I'm using Zebra_Form and I want to populate a select box with some values from a query. How do I do this? I have a returnset from MS SQL Server, but I am a newbie and I am baffled about how to frame it into the required array for Zebra_Form. It is able to display what marks each student have got for each module and session. There maybe some code that needs to be added in the function. Can I combine also HTML code in PHP function? For example, can a PHP function include HTML form and the PHP code to handle this form? If yes, this will make my main code much more smaller and readable. If not, is there a way to define an "external macro" like, which allow me to replace pre-defined lines of code with short alias? Michael Feathers coined the term Legacy Code as being code without automated tests.
Still however Legacy Code evokes a vision in me that it is code that is ugly, old, runs on mainframes, and is probably 3000 lines long, uses globals and questionable code practices.
But say we take this ugly nasty code, and put it very nicely under test, but without doing any refactoring, other than that necessary to be able to put it under test in the first place.
Now that code is under test. But it it still ugly. How would you call ugly code under test?
Would you make a differentiation between old & ugly and modern & pretty code if both are under test?
