PHP - Practicing With Temp Tables - Is This Written Right?
I'm trying to figure out how to create a temporary table of a query join, so I can paginate the results. I kind of made half of this up as i was going along - which is dangerous for a beginner like me.
I'm getting this error, and no results on the page: Warning: mysql_fetch_array(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result resource on line 179 also, is there a way to combine the two queries (create temp and insert from/into) Code: [Select] $sql2 = "CREATE TEMPORARY TABLE temp_search (plant_id INT PRIMARY KEY AUTO_INCREMENT, scientific_name VARCHAR(75), common_name VARCHAR(75), leaf_shape VARCHAR(75))"; $sqlx = "SELECT descriptors.leaf_shape ,plantae.scientific_name, plantae.common_name FROM descriptors INNER JOIN plantae ON (descriptors.plant_id = plantae.plant_name) WHERE descriptors.leaf_shape LIKE 'auriculate' AND descriptors.leaf_venation LIKE '%$select3%' AND descriptors.leaf_margin LIKE '%$select4%' INTO temp_search (leaf_shape, scientific_name, common_name)"; $sql = "SELECT * FROM temp_search ORDER BY scientific_name ASC LIMIT $start, $limit"; $result = mysql_query($sql); while($row = mysql_fetch_array($result)) { echo $row['scientific_name'] . $row['common_name'] . $row['leaf_shape'] ; } Similar TutorialsI set up functionality for a client that got moved to their server after I wrote and tested the functionality. It does not work on their server and I am trying to trouble shoot the problem as I do not have ftp access to the server.
I believe that I have narrowed it down to either I do not know how to access the temp files on their server, Windows IIS, OR the security on the server is not allowing me to upload to the temp files.
Here is the form used to upload to the server.
<form enctype="multipart/form-data" action="#" method="post" > <input type="hidden" name="upload_csv" value="TRUE" /> <p><label for="userfile">Upload CSV:</label> <input type="hidden" name="MAX_FILE_SIZE" value="45000000" /> <input type="file" id="userfile" name="userfile" title="userfile" value="" /></p> <p><input type="submit" name="upload_csv" value="Upload CSV" /></p> </form> Here is the test code: <?php $csvfile = $_FILES['userfile']['tmp_name']; $size = $_FILES['userfile']['size']; if($_POST['upload_csv']){ //---------------------------------validation code here if($problem){ echo '<div class="error">Did not pass validation</div>'; include("upload_csv.inc.php"); }else{ if (($handle = fopen($csvfile, "r")) !== FALSE) { //--------------------------------------------------------------this is where the code that imports the data from the csv and to the database goes echo '<div class="message"><p>CSV has been opened!</p></div>'; }elseif(!$csvfile){ echo '<div class="error">Problem #1</div>'; }else{ echo '<div class="error">Problem #2</div>'; } } }else{ include("upload_csv.inc.php"); } ?> This code generated the error message: Problem #2. One more bit of information: the permissions on the server is set so that nothing can be uploaded by an external script. I do not know much about servers, but it seems to me that because the security is so tight on the server, the security is the reason that this does not work...??? I appreciate help with this. I just am not knowledgeable on how the $_FILES['userfile']['tmp_name'] code actually works? From the beginning, the user accesses my website and uploads an image. Currently I'm using SimpleImage.php available at http://www.white-hat-web-design.co.uk/articles/php-image-resizing.php to resize uploaded pictures. I create two copies, a regular size and a thumbnail size. Then I transfer the converted files through FTP to my storage server. The regular size works great, but the thumbnail transfers as a blank file. I don't want to save the files on the non-storage server at all, so I'm trying to work with temporary files. include('./SimpleImage.php'); // A few variables $file_name = basename($_FILES['photo1']['name']); $random_digit=mt_rand(111111111,2147483647); // New file name $new_file_name = $userInfo['id'].'_'.$random_digit.$random_digit.'_'.substr($file_name, -5); // Paths to temporary files $target_path = $_FILES['photo1']['tmp_name']; $thumb_path = tmpfile(); // Start SimpleImage and load temp file $simImage = new SimpleImage(); $simImage->load($target_path); // Get the temp image dimensions list($width, $height) = getimagesize($target_path); // Resize the file if it's too tall if ($height > $var['maxPhotoHeight']) { $simImage->resizeToHeight($var['maxPhotoHeight']); $simImage->save($target_path); } // Get the newly resized image dimensions list($width, $height) = getimagesize($target_path); // Resize the image if it's too wide if ($width > $var['maxPhotoWidth']) { $simImage->resizeToWidth($var['maxPhotoWidth']); $simImage->save($target_path); } // Resize for thumbnail width $simImage->resizeToWidth($var['thumbWidth']); $simImage->save($thumb_path); // Get thumbnail dimensions list($width, $height) = getimagesize($thumb_path); // Resize the thumbnail if it's too tall if ($height > $var['thumbHeight']) { $simImage->resizeToHeight($var['thumbHeight']); $simImage->save($thumb_path); } // Was told this was important, but I've tried with and without it and got the same result fseek($thumb_path,0); // Perform File Transfer ftpTransfer($target_path, "$new_file_name"); ftpTransfer($thumb_path, "thumbs/$new_file_name"); // My Simple FTP Transfer Function: function ftpTransfer($source, $name) { global $ftp; $ftpMeta = "ftp://" . $ftp['user_name'] . ":" . $ftp['user_pass'] . "@" . $ftp['server'] . $ftp['dir'] . $name; $ftpData = file_get_contents($source); file_put_contents($ftpMeta, $ftpData); } Like I said, the regular sized image works great!! the thumbnail file is only created on the storage server but it has a 0kb file size. I'm sure it has to do with me working with a temporary file. tmpfile() claims to remove the file after it's closed, so maybe by using the Save feature in SimpleImage, it's closing the file and then the server automatically removes the temporary file? SimpleImage has a feature where I can write the image output [possibly to a file] using $simImage->output() for the data. If that helps with a solution? I don't know. I know it might be complicated, but any help is appreciated! I am trying to split a simple string from my db it is in the format #/# 1/5 2/5 3/3 4/2 etc... I have the following: Code: [Select] echo $value.'<BR>'; $temp=explode('/',$value['field']); print_r($temp); echo '<br>'; when I execute the above (it's in a for loop) I get the following output 1/5 Array ( => 1 ) 2/5 Array ( => 2 ) 3/3 Array ( => 3 ) 4/2 Array ( => 4 ) I am expecting 1/5 Array ( => 1 [1] => 5) for the first entry and so on down the line showing both values after the explode. How would I create a prepared mysql temp table using PHP? I currently write my prepared statements like the example below. How would I create a "TEMP" table? Thanks!
$connection8y = new mysqli("host", "xxx", "xxx", "db"); Hello, We've been working on a page that allows users to create their own avatar to be displayed on their page. We can get the script working but the only way to show the image is to save it to a temp folder, we want to just save the string in the database and let the php show this wehen required here are the file http://test.digitaldemocracy.org.uk/test_avatar.php <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" /> <meta name="author" content="John Munro, Democratise Ltd" /> <meta name="copyright" content="Democratise Ltd 2010" /> <meta name="description" content="Digital Democracy -" /> <meta name="keywords" content=" add here" /> <meta name="robots" content="index, follow" /> <meta name="revisit-after" content="1 week" /> <meta http-equiv="Page-Exit" content="blendTrans(Duration=0.5)" /> <link rel="SHORTCUT ICON" href="http://www.digitaldemocracy.co.uk/favicon.ico" /> <title>Digital Democracy -</title> <link href="css/site.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> <link href="css/basic.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> <link rel="stylesheet" href="avatars/avatar.css" type="text/css" /> <script type="text/javascript" src="avatars/avatar.js"></script> <style type="text/css"> /*<![CDATA[*/ <!-- body { background-image: url(images/background_paper.jpg); background-repeat: repeat; } --> /*]]>*/ </style> <script type="text/javascript"> //<![CDATA[ var _gaq = _gaq || []; _gaq.push(['_setAccount', 'UA-15681567-1']); _gaq.push(['_trackPageview']); (function() { var ga = document.createElement('script'); ga.type = 'text/javascript'; ga.async = true; ga.src = ('https:' == document.location.protocol ? This topic has been moved to PHP Installation & Configuration. http://www.phpfreaks.com/forums/index.php?topic=343981.0 Okay, so I'm kind of a PHP noob.
But out of context, for this site that I'm designing, it's easiest if I make a directory in the temporary folder PHP uses. In my case, /tmp/ because I am on Linux.
I want to use rand() to generate a random name for the page. But I then realized something, rand() could produce duplicates. How do I prevent PHP from trying to make the same directory at the same time? I know there are functions that will check if a file exists but I'm assuming it'll fail if that directory is currently being created, right?
How do I assure thread safety?
I willing to change my idea and not use rand(). Is there a way to get a unique key for each anonymous user on my site?
Hi, In my application I have not used any folders to define the hierarchy. All file s are in a single folder. What is the easy way of creating the Breadcrumb. I am rewriting the URL from www.mysite.com/main.php/page=pagename&id=10 to www.mysite.com/main/pagename/id/10 Is it possible to use the re-written URL to create the breadcrumb? If yes I can define hierarchy in the URL and use the same to create breadcrumb. when in a form, I wish to build a conditional that if the response to a radio button is a value of 2 (female), it will display an input requesting for users maiden name. If not 2 goes to the next input statement. Here is code I was experimenting with: <html> <body> <form action="" name="test" method='POST'> <input type="radio" id="sex" value=1 checked><label>Male</label> <input type="radio" id="sex" value=2><label>Femaleale</label> <?php $result = "value"; if ($result == 2) echo "<input type='int' id='gradYear' size='3' required>"; else echo "Not a female!" ?> <input type="submit" value="GO"> </form> </body> </html> The code passes debug, however, Not a Female is displayed. My question is - Can I do this and if so, what value do I test against id='sex' or value. I tried each one but gave the same results. I realize that $_POST[sex] would be used after the submit button is clicked. But this has me stumped. Thanks for the assis in advance. Hello everyone, I'm exporting some mysql data to a text file. The data can be selected by checkboxes from a table. I want to format the text that will be in text file. How do I do that? This is my code: Code: [Select] <?php if ($_POST['exporttxt']) { for($i=0;$i<count($_POST['checkbox']);$i++){ $export_id = $checkbox[$i]; $text = mysql_query("SELECT code FROM tickets WHERE id='$export_id'"); $text = mysql_fetch_assoc($text); $text = $text["code"]; $filename = "export"; $filedate = date("Y-m-d"); $fileext = ".txt"; $fileall = $filename.$filedate.$fileext; ob_end_clean(); header("Content-Type: application/octet-stream"); header("Content-disposition: attachment;filename=\"$fileall\""); header("Content-Type: application/force-download"); header("Content-Type: application/download"); header("Content-Description: File Transfer"); header("Content-Length: ".strlen($output).";\n"); echo($text); } } exit(); ?> The data that will be exported are numbers containing of 16 digits. After every number I want to have a line-break. Also if possible I would like to have a space after 4 digits for every number, example: Number non-formatted: 1234567891234567 Number formatted: 1234 5678 9123 4567 How can I do that? Hi guys. I have a problem in my web based examanation system written in php. Here's the scenario: when a user takes an exam. 1 question is displayed 1 at a time. my problem is if he/she is at the 2nd question then he/she pressed the back button he/she is redirected back to the 1st question and my system just go crazy. How can i prevent the user from pressing the back button or returning to the previous questions? Please I really need help on this. Can anyone give me suggestion for possible solutions on my problem? I have only basic knowledge of php, mostly I just copy some scripts that could be useful for me. Im trying to find some simple script that allows me to see the written text on web page no. 1 on webpage no. 2.. Something like send the form to email, except I dont want to send it on email, but different webpage. Something like different way of eshop, where you get your order shipped to email, but I wanna send this information to webpage. Is there such a script like Im describing? Probably is but I dont know how to search for this..
Thank You
Edited by Radim, 21 October 2014 - 07:15 AM. Hi guys, Should be a simple 1. If i have the following at the top of the page: $page_views = $row['page_views'] + 1; mysql_query("UPDATE table SET page_views='$page_views'"); and then the following at the bottom of the page: echo $row['page_views']; Should I see the page views as 1 the first time the page is visited, 2 the second time the page is visited, and so on......? At the moment im seeing 0 on the first page visit, 1 on the second page visit, 2 on the third..... I had this problem before on another page i was working, and i simply solved it by displaying the mysql query above the echo similar to the code above. However now it does not seem to be working. Am i missing something really simple? lol Thanks I have an application that was written back in PHP4 days and has ceased development ever since. PHP 4 is basically gone, i can't get it to install on any of my machines now and what i use on my windows boxes (XAMPP) doesn't include PHP4 anymore. When i set everything up, i get ~50 of these: Deprecated: Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated in.... and on every line it looks like: $var =& _____ or $var = &something... yada-yada and removing the & symbol removes the error message. Using editplus i removed all the "=&" and "= &" and just replaced the & with space, i had read on google PHP5 doesn't need it anymore so that should've worked. But as my luck would have it, the server errors out with 500 code until i replace all the &'s back, and then the errors show up yet again. Is there anyway to force php5 to run this program despite having php4 things in it? Im doing a search system and Im having some problems.
I need to search in two tables (news and pages), I already had sucess doing my search system for just one table, but for two tables its not easy to do.
I already use a select statment with two tables using UNION because I want to show number of search results, that is number of returned rows of my first sql statment.
But now I need to do a select statment that allows me to acess all fields of my news table and all fields of my pages table.
I need to acess in my news table this fields: id, title, content, link, date, nViews
I need to acess in my pages table this fields: id, title, content, link
Im trying to do this also with UNION, but in this case Im not having any row returning.
Do you see what I have wrong in my code?
<?php //first I get my $search keyword $search = $url[1]; $pdo = connecting(); //then I want to show number of returned rows for keyword searched $readALL = $pdo->prepare("SELECT title, content FROM news WHERE title LIKE ? OR content LIKE ? UNION SELECT title, content FROM pages WHERE title LIKE ? OR content like ?"); $readALL->bindValue(1,"%$search%", PDO::PARAM_STR); $readALL->bindValue(2,"%$search%", PDO::PARAM_STR); $readALL->bindValue(3,"%$search%", PDO::PARAM_STR); $readALL->bindValue(4,"%$search%", PDO::PARAM_STR); $readALL->execute(); //I show number of returned rows echo '<p>Your search keyword returned <strong>'.$readALL->rowCount().'</strong> results!</p>'; //If dont return any rows I show a error message if($readALL->rowCount() <=0){ echo 'Sorry but we didnt found any result for your keyword search.'; } else{ //If return rows I want to show, if it is a page result I want to show title and link that I have in my page table //if it is a news result I want to show title and link that I have in my news table and also date of news echo '<ul class="searchlist">'; $readALL2 = $pdo->prepare("SELECT * FROM news WHERE status = ? AND title LIKE ? OR content LIKE ? LIMIT 0,4 UNION SELECT * FROM pages where title LIKE ? OR content LIKE ? LIMIT 0,4"); $readALL2->bindValue(1, '1'); $readALL2->bindValue(2, "%$search%", PDO::PARAM_STR); $readALL2->bindValue(3, "%$search%", PDO::PARAM_STR); $readALL2->bindValue(4, "%$search%", PDO::PARAM_STR); $readALL2->execute(); while ($result = $readALL2->fetch(PDO::FETCH_ASSOC)){ echo '<li>'; echo '<img src="'.BASE.'/uploads/news/'.$result['thumb'].'"/>'; echo '<a href="'.BASE.'/news/'.$result['id_news'].'">'.$result['title'].'</a>'; //if it is a news result I also want to show date on my list //echo '<span id="date">'.$result['date'].'</span>'; echo '</li>'; } echo ' </ul>'; //but how can I do my select statement to have access to my news table fields and my page table fields?? } ?> This portion is kind of stumping me. Basically, I have a two tables in this DB: users and users_access_level (Separated for DB normalization) users: id / username / password / realname / access_level users_access_level: access_level / access_name What I'm trying to do, is echo the data onto an HTML table that displays users.username in one table data and then uses the users.access_level to find users_access_level.access_name and echo into the following table data, I would prefer not to use multiple queries if possible or nested queries. Example row for users: 1234 / tmac / password / tmac / 99 Example row for users_access_level: 99 / Admin Using the examples above, I would want the output to appear as such: Username: Access Name: Tmac Admin I am not 100% sure where to start with this, but I pick up quickly, I just need a nudge in the right direction. The code I attempted to create just shows my lack of knowledge of joining tables, but I'll post it if you want to see that I did at least make an effort to code this myself. Thanks for reading! I am trying to write some data from multiple SQL tables to a page. In the first table is a list of places. I then have more tables that are named after the different places. For example, say my first place in the list is called Place1. I have a table named Place1 with data that corresponds to place1. The data contained in the table named Place1 is a list of things to do in this place. It has 21 columns and each one is something to do in the morning, afternoon, and at night for each day of the week in the place Place1. What I am trying to do is display a sort of weekly calendar as a table on a webpage that lists all of the places in one column and then lists seven days of the week as 7 more columns. Then in each data cell I would want to list the things to do in the morning, afternoon and at night for the certain day of the week and for the place. The problem is that I am creating a CMS to allow other users with no coding knowledge to update events for other places, so I have to display data that could have been altered. The only solution I know of is to do a while loop that gets all of the place names and while there are still place names, write the place names to the page and set a variable equal to the place name. Inside the while loop I would create another while loop that each time the first while loop is executed uses the variable set in the first while loop to know which table to reference and then make a call to that table pulling out the 21 columns and writing them to the page. Each time the outer while loop executes, it would (hopefully) write the place name, and then set the variable as the current place name so that the inner while loop uses the variable to write the rest of the information about that place. I don't know if that would even work and if it did, I know it cannot be the best way to do this. I am pretty stuck here and don't really have a good solution so if anyone proposes a solution that is radically different to anything I have done, I am open to everything. Thank you! |
