I am trying to figure out the proper PHP method for setting a boundary on a variable within a script. I have this variable $name which is fed a value from $_POST['name'] from a form field. Now this form field is limited in the HTML to accept only 20 characters, but someone could easily edit the form or outgoing post data. So I want to know how to limit the variable size in the script. In other languages it could be something like this: var name(20). So how do I do that in PHP? I hope this is a fairly quick one, I've got a form I'm building where i may well have some special characters being inserted (accents mostly) now normally i would just pop in an HTML editor (TinyMCE) and let that deal with it. But i am looking to export this data as a CSV for use in excel, which means i can't afford to have HTML tags within the output. I am sure someone will have come across this before any suggestions? many thanks Matt I am looking for some info on creating a textfield /dropdown menu that works just like a standard browser: when you type in something in the textfield/dropdown it should show results (this is needed to quickly find a member) eg. I type "use" and dropdown should contain members(results) starting with "use" (user1, user2 ...) Anyone know where I can find info on this? Hello everyone, We have written a code to make a translator of the Caesarcode. But we don't know how we put the code working on the textfield. We tried by ourselves but it doesn't work. So we are asking where and which code we have to put in to the html textfield. This is our code: <?php class CaesarCode { private static $alfabetUpper; private static $alfabetLower; private $steps; private function _getNewPosition($originalPosition) { return ($originalPosition + $this->steps) % 26; } private function _getCharFromArray($char, $fromArray) { if (($charKey = array_search($char, $fromArray)) !== false) { return $fromArray[$this->_getNewPosition($charKey)]; } return false; } private function _translateChar($char) { $translatedChar = $this->_getCharFromArray($char, $this->_getAlfabetUpper()); if ($translatedChar === false) { $translatedChar = $this->_getCharFromArray($char, $this->_getAlfabetLower()); } return $translatedChar; } private function _getAlfabetUpper() { if (empty(self::$alfabetUpper)) { self::$alfabetUpper = range('A', 'Z'); } return self::$alfabetUpper; } private function _getAlfabetLower() { if (empty(self::$alfabetLower)) { self::$alfabetLower = range('a', 'z'); } return self::$alfabetLower; } public function __construct($steps) { $this->steps = $steps; } public function translate($string) { $encr = ''; foreach (str_split($string) as $key => $char) { if (($newChar = $this->_translateChar($char)) !== false) $char = $newChar; $encr .= $char; } return $encr; } } ?> And this is the html code: <?php // de class CaesarCode beschikbaar maken in dit bestand include 'caesarcodephp.php'; $caesarCode = new CaesarCode( 1 ); // de uitkomst opslaan in de variabele $result $result = $caesarCode->translate( 'ABC' ); ?> <!doctype html> <html> <head> <title>oefen</title> </head> <body> <table border="1"> <tr> <tr><td>Rotation:</td> <td> <select> <option value ="1"><?php $caesarCode= new CaesarCode( 1 ); ?> 1 </option> <option value ="2"><?php $caesarCode= new CaesarCode( 2 ); ?>2 </option> <option value ="3"><?php $caesarCode= new CaesarCode( 3 ); ?>3</option> <option value ="4"><?php $caesarCode= new CaesarCode( 4 ); ?>4</option> <option value ="5">5</option> <option value ="6">6</option> <option value ="7">7</option> <option value ="8">8</option> <option value ="9">9</option> <option value ="10">10</option> </select> </tr> <tr> <textarea rows="10" cols="20" style="overflow:hidden;"> <?php echo $caesarCode->translate( 'XYZ' ); ?> INPUT TEXT?? </textarea> <p style="font-size:10px;"></p> <textarea rows="10" cols="20" style="overflow:hidden;"> Output text</textarea> <p style="font-size:10px;"></p> </tr> <tr> <td>Result</td> <td><?php echo $result ?></td> </tr> </table> </body> </html> Thank you very much! Hello, I want to create an order form where people can order shirts with sizes and quantities. So in 1 form you have a column where people can check the size and after that the quantities. (see below the form) As result i want after pressing submit and selecting for example 3 shirts Large and 1 small: S=1, M=0, L=3, XL=0, XXL=0 Code: [Select] echo "<form method=\"post\" action=".$PHP_SELF."> <label>aantal <input name=\"textfield[]\" type=\"text\" size=\"4\" maxlength=\"3\"> <input class=\"option2\" id=\"option2\" name=\"maat[]\" type=\"checkbox\" value=\"S\">S<br /> <input name=\"textfield[]\" type=\"text\" size=\"4\" maxlength=\"3\"> <input class=\"option2\" id=\"option2\" name=\"maat[]\" type=\"checkbox\" value=\"m\">m<br /> <input name=\"textfield[]\" type=\"text\" size=\"4\" maxlength=\"3\"> <input class=\"option2\" id=\"option2\" name=\"maat[]\" type=\"checkbox\" value=\"l\">l<br /> <input name=\"textfield[]\" type=\"text\" size=\"4\" maxlength=\"3\"> <input class=\"option2\" id=\"option2\" name=\"maat[]\" type=\"checkbox\" value=\"XL\">XL<br /> <input name=\"textfield[]\" type=\"text\" size=\"4\" maxlength=\"3\"> <input class=\"option2\" id=\"option2\" name=\"maat[]\" type=\"checkbox\" value=\"XXL\">XXL<br /> </label> <input type=submit value=Select></form>"; i hope you can help me with it. thanks in regard! Hey again guys! I'm back already today. XD Okay, so... I'm building a script, right. I have a form that is a simple text field. I do NOT want to use javascript. I want to be able to use PHP to be able to do this. Here is the form exactly as it is now: Code: [Select] <form action="<?php echo "$PHP_SELF"; ?>" method="POST"> <input type="text" name="price"> How would I only allow a number, and up to 5 digits long, like, for example, a zip code. I know I can always limit the char space, but they might be able to "inject" it? On another note for forms, what would I have to do to get rid of people being able to run a script through a form; is it the strip_tags(); function? Thanks for your help in advance guys! I have a problem with the following code but i really don't see it: I try to populate the city textfield by the zipcode entered on the zipcode textfield function fillcitystate(controlname) { var zipstring = ""; xmlhttp = new XMLHttpRequest(); xmlhttp.open("GET", "postcode.php?postcode=" + controlname.value, true); xmlhttp.onreadystatechange=function() { if (xmlhttp.readyState==4) { var zipstring = xmlhttp.responseText; if (zipstring!="Error") { var ziparray = zipstring.split("|"); document.getElementById("test").innerHTML = ziparray[1]; } } } xmlhttp.send(null); } In postcode.php $returnval = "Error"; $postcode = $_GET['postcode']; $query = "SELECT * FROM city WHERE code='$postcode'"; $resultval = mysql_query($query); $rowcount = mysql_num_rows($resultval); if ($rowcount==1) { $row = mysql_fetch_array($resultval); $returnval = $row['code']."|".ucwords(strtolower($row['name']))."|".$row['province']; } else { } echo $returnval; When entering a zipcode, nothing happened so i decided to just echo the name of the city using the innerHTML. Still nothing happened, so i commented out all the php in my postcode.php and decided to just do: $postcode = $_GET['postcode']; echo $postcode; then it printed out: 'undefined' Can somebody point me out? Hello, I'm writing a PHP program in which textfields are printed (in a loop) into an HTML table. On a button click, another column is added to the table, and another textfield added. The problem is that when a new textfield is printed, it is slightly above the height of the other textfields (see attached picture if unclear). The code for this is below: Code: [Select] <table border = '1' cellspacing = '4' style = "color: white"> <?php include "connectToDatabase.php"; //Initial script call to generate table from database ?> </table> //Code in connectToDatabase.php... $query = mysql_query("SELECT * FROM colin_table"); while($row = mysql_fetch_array($query)){ //$row represents each row in an array for($i = 0; $i < $limit; $i++){ //Print every element in the array if($row[$i] == null) echo "<td align = 'center'><input type = 'text' style = 'text-align: center; vertical-align: middle' align = 'center'>"; else echo "<td align = 'center'>" . $row[$i]; } echo "<td align = 'center'>"; echo "<tr align = 'center'>"; //Then move to the next row } //Loop that prints text boxes for every column in the HTML table $textBoxQuery = mysql_query("SELECT * FROM allColumnFields"); while($row = mysql_fetch_array($textBoxQuery)){ echo <<<END <td align = 'center'> <input type = 'text' style="margin-left:auto; text-align:center; vertical-align: middle; margin-right:auto;" name = "rowField"/> END; //THIS IS THE PART THAT NEEDS WORK. FOR SOME REASON NEW TEXTBOX IS HIGHER THAN THE OTHER BOXES } It's more of an aesthetic problem, but it's nonetheless something I'd like to get fixed. Any ideas? Jake Hey guys!! So basically what I am doing here is pulling the directory out of a url. URL ex: http://www.xxx.com/T...IS_WHAT_I_WANT/ How can i break down strings for example i have a simple search database for products where as a user searches a term this can be one, two three words and so on. I'm using a wildcard; but i want the best way to get the possible search so i would like to break down the string into separate words and then use that to search the database using wildcards is this possible? Thanks for reading. Hello, I was wondering if someone could help me to "get" the webaddress of a current webpage and then pull off pieces of the page. All of my pages look like: http://localhost:8888/algebra_book/Chapters/Quadratic_Functions/introductory_problem.php BUT, the stuff to the left of Quadratic Functions WILL change in the future. So all will look like: *Quadratic_Functions/introductory_problem.php Then, I'd like to pull off a $chapter variable, which in this case is Quadratic_Functions and a $page_name variable which in this case will be introductory_problem. Thanks so much. is there a way I can make something like a ticket in pdf format that can have $name or the likes echo in it? if you could help get me started, that would be great! I was thinking how can I make a script that will build strings incrementing through each letter starting with "a" and ending with "zzzzzz" or what ever ending length I want such as 12. So if your were to output everything, you could find the words: "dog" "spider" "superman" "hippo" etc What would be the best way to do this, so I don't have to have a loop that is 500 blocks deep to show a word that is 500 letters example Quote a ... z aa ab ac ... az ba bb bc ... ... aaa aab aac hello, here is what i have, obviosly it doesnt work. Code: [Select] $year=$_POST['y']; $yr=substr($year,-2); $mth=$_POST['m']; $init=$_POST['initial']; $jobnumber=$yr$mth2343$init; echo "$jobnumber"; P.S. thanks to everybody for their help lately! Hi I am having troubles using a string in a cookie.. This doesnt work: setcookie("background", "$image_name", $expire, "/", ".gedoo.com"); Neither does this: setcookie("background", "" . $image_name . "", $expire, "/", ".gedoo.com"); If I write something before $image_name like: setcookie("background", "hello" . $image_name . "", $expire, "/", ".gedoo.com"); It will save "hello" in the cookie.. So in other words, $image_name doesnt look like it is defined.. But the funny thing is that this works on the same page: echo "File Uploaded Successfully!<br><img src='images/$image_name'>"; Anyone have any idea on what I am doing wrong? Not sure if there is a better way to do this, but I want to check whether the value in a Sticky Field is the same as what is in the Database. If what is in the Sticky Field is *exactly* what is in the Database, then the User didn't update that field, and so I would NOT do an UPDATE. Seem reasonable? Here is where I grab the value out of the Form... Code: [Select] // **************************** // Process Each Form Field. * // **************************** foreach($_POST['answerArray'] as $questionID => $response){ // Copy trimmed Form array to PHP array. $answerArray[$questionID] = trim($response); And here is where I grab the existing value in the Database... Code: [Select] // ******************** // Check for Answer. * // ******************** // Build query. $q1 = "SELECT response FROM bio_answer WHERE member_id=? AND question_id=?"; // Prepare statement. $stmt1 = mysqli_prepare($dbc, $q1); // Bind variable to query. mysqli_stmt_bind_param($stmt1, 'ii', $memberID, $questionID); // Execute query. mysqli_stmt_execute($stmt1); // Store results. mysqli_stmt_store_result($stmt1); // Check # of Records Returned. if (mysqli_stmt_num_rows($stmt1)==1){ // Answer Found. // Bind result-set to variable. mysqli_stmt_bind_result($stmt1, $currResponse); // Fetch record. mysqli_stmt_fetch($stmt1); So I guess I want to compare $answerArray[$questionID] against $currResponse and see if there are any differences?! What is the best way to do that? Any better ideas of how to check to see if the User made any changes to a field so I only do an UPDATE if there was actually a change? Thanks, Debbie This is the full error: Fatal error: [] operator not supported for strings in D:\Programs\AppServ\www\test\test.php on line 19 I have comented on the error line. function structure(){ $argNum = func_get_args(); $temp = $argNum; (int)$pointer = -1; $xmlStructure = array(); foreach ($temp as $key => $value) { if ($value == 'in') { if ($pointer == -1) { $pointer = 0; } else{ $pointer = $pointer + 1; } }elseif ($value == 'out') { $pointer = $pointer - 1; }; if($pointer != -1){ $xmlStructure[$pointer][] = $value; //THIS is the 19'th line. }else{ $xmlStructure[] = $value; } } return $xmlStructure; } function test_print($item2, $key) { echo "$key. $item2<br />\n"; } $a = structure('0','in','00','01','02'); array_walk($a,'test_print'); Let's say I have the string "Bob is my friend. Bob likes to eat apples. Goodbye!". I give a function that string, and the two strings "Bob" and "apples". It returns "Bob likes to eat apples". I seem to have trouble making this function. If I wanted it to return "Bob is my friend. Bob likes to eat apples" that would be much simpler, but I am trying to get the smallest amount of characters between the two strings. I tried doing this, but seem to either get stuck on an infinite loop or return the entire inputted string. Code: [Select] function between($strIn, $str1, $str2){ $pos2 = stripos($strIn, $str2); $pos = 1; $strStore = ""; while($pos>0 && $pos<$pos2){ $pos = stripos($strIn, $str1); $strStore = substr($strin, $pos, $pos2-$pos); $strIn = substr_replace($srtIn, $strtemp, ""); } return $strStore; } What it does it finds the first occurrence of "apples" ($str1) and then keeps finding and deleting every occurrence of "Bob" ($str2) until the position of "Bob" surpasses the position of "apples". As you can tell, it doesn't work. Could anyone help me out, or tell me what I am doing wrong? This topic has been moved to PHP Regex. http://www.phpfreaks.com/forums/index.php?topic=316055.0 |
