Hello All

I currently have a function that takes in user input from form fields $email & $password. If all is well the function logs the user in, if not redirects back to the login form.

What I require is two things.

1) Allow the user to login with either "email" or "username" (entered in the $email form field).
2) Allow the system to have a "master" password and if that is entered with a valid email or user from above then log that user in.

Okay, so below I have posted my code, the problem I am having is not knowing how PDO works that well. So what I have attempted to do here is use SQL to check if the user and password are correct, but I'm not sure how to carry on. I realize I have to determine if the database found the matching password and/or username but I have no idea how, any help will be much appreciated.

I have a login page that after logging in it sets a session

and takes me to a start page (and checks for the session) which all works wonderfully. The problem is that no matter what link is clicked on that page it takes me to the login page again after checking to see if that same session is set

I have a php file with a bunch of variables declared. I now need a function to put data on a separate page that pulls variables from the required page.

So, on the required page, I have a variable set like this: $qb1 = "John Doe";

The function on the new script is called like this: getplayer($qb1);

I've tried this without the dollar sign in the function like this: getplayer(qb1); and then adding the $dollar sign in the rest of the function code...but it never populates the sql query correctly. I'm guessing this is a case for variable variables or something similar, but I don't know how to get the variable value from the required page. Any ideas? Thanks.

I have this function completely written in my class file that I am working on. The point to this function is to be able to check the login of a user or administrator for either of the control panels associated with my site.

It will check the session intime as well as the page / module referenced. Once it passes all those checks, it will check and ensure the emailaddress/password stored in the current session still holds true and the account is still active... if the account is still active it will update the lastActivity as well as update all of the session variables with what is currently in the database.

What I am looking for is basically a look at the function, see if it looks good.. If there is any part to it that could create security holes for the site just off the login function itself...

Change Email Function Problem

I wrote a bunch of code just to realize that there's a huge security hole in my script.

Here's a how I've built it:

1. first you enter the new email address into the input box and click submit
2. an email gets sent to you where you have to click on an activation link to confirm the change, and of course the email gets send to the inbox to make sure it's a valid email
the activation link looks as follows:

The dbuser_id gets taken from the session variable, and the user email is the new entered user email.

3. After clicking the link you get directed to an activation page, I thought about letting the user enter his password and letting it match with the password in the database as added security, so he can't just change the user_id in the link so that the email of another user gets changed.

the query on the activation page looks like this:

"UPDATE user SET email = '$user_email' WHERE nickname = '$dbuser_name' AND WHERE user_id = '$id'";

The $id is being taking from the activation link per GET, and the $dbuser_name is being taking from the session variable.

And now this is the problem where I'm stuck, even though I've added a bunch of security, and even the necessary to enter a password there's still a major security hole, which is the user can easily change the email in the activation link to something else, something that is not a valid email.

E.g.
this

can become to this, when the user manually edits the url and pastes it into his browser:

How can I prevent this, is there any way I could tell the script the CONFIRMED and VALID email, with a more secure way?

BTW this script works as it is, it's just that the user can manually change the email to something else what makes this script worthless for now.

how what i want to do is separate members and admins because admin need more rights to do

Login Using External Side Login System

Hi guys.

What I want to create is really complicated. Well I have a login system that works with post on an external website.
I have my own website, but they do not give me access to the database for security reasons, therefore I have to use their login system to verify my users.
What their website does is that it has a post, with username and password. The POST website is lets say "https://www.example.com/login".
If login is achieved (i.e. username and password are correct), it will redirect me to "https://www.example.com/login/success" else it will redirect me to "https://www.example.com/login/retry".

So I want a PHP script that will do that post, and then according to the redirected website address it will return me TRUE for success, FALSE for not successful login.

Any idea??
