PHP - Alert Doesn't Pop Up

the alert box is not coming up. 

Please suggest a way to print the contents of the file in a alert box.

So say I have a page with 3 buttons on:

<button id="1" onclick="clickFunction()">1 </button>
<button id="2" onclick="clickFunction()">2</button>
<button id="3" onclick="clickFunction()">3</button>

How do I then create an alert displaying which was pressed? e.g:

</script>

I know in this case I could create 3 different functions but I want to use it for a page with a lot more than 3.

This might be more than just a php question but here goes anyways. 

I have designed a php chat room page on my home Apache server just for a few friends & family. The problem I have is the only way for me to know if anyone is on the chat room page is if I'm actually viewing the php page. Is there a way that I can have the page alert me when someone accesses it? I was thinking something like activating  a popup in my browser or even a beep so as long as I'm at my computer with my browser open that I will know someone has accessed the page.

I would like to ask how to start writing php command in order to send due date alert via email. i'm successfully connect php with google smtp. the situation is like this. i would like to send notification to the user if the user is not return back the vessel to the laboratory before 5pm on the same day.

When the user clicks "Next" or "Previous," the following youtube clip will load into the div tag.  (With the corresponding description tag).   Where do I incorporate the str_replace?  And how do I make sure both the youtube clip with the correct description is loaded?

When I click on this span I want it to alert the ID if the span...

I have a live chat integrated into my website that uses Ajax, PHP and MySQL.

When two people have the chat window open they can chat and it works fine.

How can I send an alert to the person being requested to chat with, or for the chat.php page to popup automatically.

It prob needs to be some function constantly running in the background check the DB for new message entries.

Hi I'm new to wordpress and PHP, I'm not a developer and I only understand HTML. All I've learnt so far about wordpress is from youtube, so apologies in advance for all the questions.  In the header where it says "Get Register", i want to change it to just say "Register".  I'm using firebug and Firefox browser to find the file, to edit the above request.  so far, its told me the text i need to edit, is in custom.css?ver=1  on line 329 I found the file custome.css, but how do i edit custom.css?ver=1 please?    

In my shopping cart i want an alert message when the maximum number of 5 for the item has been reached or ask them to delete the item if the press - when the item quantity is at 1.   i have it working in php:

But rather than display the message in a div i would like a javascript alert box to pop up, i tried the following code:

but i get the same quantity number for every item in the cart, i had this error with the php update but i got round that by querying sql to give me the quantity of an item by the items id. can the same thing be done in javascript / ajax?   $qty by the way is referenced earlier in the script to get information for the cart table to display items.   thanks Michael

Each status has a comment textarea.   How can I get it to alert what the user has typed in the textarea when the return key is pressed.   The textarea in the PHP loop is like this:

This should be a simple task  I am just not fully grasping laravel yet.

I have my controllers view and models setup. I want to use my users.destroy route to delete my row in the db. But I want to do it a certain way.  I want to have an alert show In my alert area on my page asking to confirm the deletion of a certain user. Im assuming I need to pass the user id in a session to an alert to confirm my delete on a delete button click.

Click 1 button to open an alert on the top of my page if I click confirm it calls user.destroy.
