PHP - Reusing A Method Multiple Times

which is made to call the updateStats() function 1 time everytime the page loads.

The wierd thing that is happening is, When i have the Header() set in the script, the updateStats() function appears to be called twice, but when the header is commented out, it is only called once.

I can tell this by the change of data in the MYSQL database, the Loads value increases by 2 when the header is set, and it only creases by 1 when it isnt set.


Any insight as to why this is happening would be greatly appreciated.

Ok, I need some serious help here.

I have a jQuery .load method that retrieves a single users name from a database. However... I also need to incorporate error checking into the script that the .load method access, so that, if the user enters a name in the field that is not in the database, it will insert it into the database, and then then pull it back out again to be returned by the ajax call.

So far I can get it to pull out a name that is manually entered into the database no problem. But I can't get it to insert a name that isn't in the database, and then query the database a second time to pull that same name back out again.

The page is pretty simple. The user comes to the page, enters their name in the text field, either clicks the submit button or presses the enter key. The scripts fire off the ajax call to the database, check to see if the name exists, if not enter it and pull it back out (this is where I have the problem), if so, pull it out and display it back on the page.

I have a controller(generatebill.php) where I have collected all the value from the form(normaluserview.php). I can see my value is stored. But whenever I wanted to display those values in table format in another view(invoice.php in this case), it keeps repeating. For better understanding, I have uploaded the files as well.. I need to know how to echo multiple things on the same page. If you do understand the last line then don't read this next part.

So say if had just a textbox and a submit button. I already know how to make it where they type something and they hit submit and echo's to the page. But after it echos I want to know how to make it where if they entered in another body of text
it would enter on the same page right under the last echo, or the last thing they typed. So if you could help me with this or just post a code for me that would be nice.

I have a scenario in PHP, i need a smart way:
1. I run one process on background forever, scheduler.php - done
2. User on the web submit their task in DB to be processed by the above process(scheduler.php) - done
3. scheduler.php read the db after every 1 sec, looking for user's task.

Problem:
Ideally, if it founds like 10 or more tasks it should process them concurently(in parallel)..i.e it should not wait one task to be fully executed so as to run the next one as one task might take a very long time to be fullu executed.
I would do like exec("nohup php <path>/file_name.php >> /dev/null 2>&1 &"), but if i have alot of tasks this will create zombie processes.

Any smart way to do this will be highly appreciated!

I'm collecting date/time information via a form and would like to convert the info into something that I can stick in my MySql database (a timestamp???).  I'm collecting the current month (variable name: month-- of the form "mm"), day (variable name: day -- of the form "dd"), year (variable name: year -- of the form "yyyy"), time of day (variable name: time -- of the form "h:00"), and before or after noon (variable name: ampm -- of the form "am" or "pm").  Any suggestions as to how to change this into a quantity that I can store as a value and then use to compare to other date/times would be appreciated.

Say I have an "Entries" table. I want to submit same multiple entries using a form submission. And If I have other queries submitted in the same form, I want those quarries to be submitted only once.  Is that possible to do?

I am new to php and would like help understanding Sessions and session variables.  When should I or should I not make my php, sessions?  I have this Idea that by creating all my documents sessions It will always be easier to reuse all my session variables in other documents.  Is this ok or is there a way to use variable in other documents without making a session?  I want to code correctly and professionally but I don,t want to become a creature of BAD HABIT.

I know it is often frivolous, but sometimes I can't help trying to optimize things, and use the following two methods to create either an object injected with a string or one of a set of objects.  For both cases, the class has no setters so there is no chance that the object will later be changed.  I first stated doing this in continuously running server applications which I believe makes sense, however, it has leaked over to standard HTTP requests.

Please commit good or bad on this approach. Thanks

My script has 3 classes (that are relevant to this discussion): DB, User and Validate. They are all in independent files and loaded automatically, when required, by an autoloader.
Both the User class and the Validate class have a private variable $_db which is instantiated by their class constructor: $this->_db = DB::getInstance();
At the top of the script I declare new instances: $user = new User(); and $validate = new Validate();
I then call a method in $user: $found = $user->findInUsers ( .... )
From within the findInUsers method I then want to call the query method in the DB class. My problem is that I can't find a way to do this that works.
I have tried $this->_db->query( ... ), $_db->query( ... ), but neither works.

The error messages I am getting a
An error occurred in script '/srv/http/classes/User.php' on line 42: Undefined variable $_db
Uncaught Error: Call to a member function query() on null in /srv/http/classes/User.php:42

Any pointers as to what I am doing wrong, or what I should be doing, would be most welcome.

what i am trying to do is write a piece of code which will alter 3 tables (user, bonus_credit, bonus_credit_usage)

so lets say, in bonus_credit i have the following
bonusCode = 'facebook' (this is the code they have to type to redeem the bonus
qty = '10' ( number of times the bonusCode can be redeemed, but same person can't redeem it more than once)
value = '5' (this is the  amount of bonus_credit for each qty)

Now, I need to write a code that check to see if the code has been redeemed in the bonus_credit_usage table and if the user.ID exists in this table as bonus_code_usage.usedBy, then give an error that its already been used and if it hasn't been used, then subtract 1 from qty, add ID to usedBy and then add the value to the bonus_credit

i have started the steps just to create a simple textbox and entering a numeric value to bonus_credit, and that works.. but now i have to use JOIN and IF and ELSE.. which is a little too advanced for me.. so i'd appreciate a guide as i write the code.

I have tried to find a solution for this issue for days. The script was working fine until yesterday when all of a sudden I get this warning.

The exact code is working perfectly fine in a different server I have, both servers are running Centos with PHP5 + GD fully enabled. The image http://domain.com/images/broadcast1.png (~5Kb) is loading very fast when open through a browser.

Please please help me resolve this, I have tried many different things and even uninstall and install GD again but n luck. Thank you so much for your help.

I need help with a query.   I've got a table that stores references to calls that come in to our office. It has a datetime field, and for the purposes of the query, it's the only thing in this table that is important.   I've got another table that stores appointment information. The appointment start time is also a datetime field. For this query, this start time is the only thing in this table that is important.   I need to know how many times in the last year there was a day when we had at least 150 calls come in and made at least 1 appointment.

To make things difficult, I guess the time would have to be converted to a day, because I'm looking for all days where there was an appointment, and the datetime field is too specific.   I've been looking online for 30 mins or so, and was hoping somebody here could point me in the right direction. I'm not making much progress by myself.
