PHP - Insert-into-select With Concatenated Variables
Hello.
I have a simple enough code that takes information from one table and drops it into another. This is great, but I have 2a new complexities that I have been unable to code correctly. A. 'lastname', 'firstname' on table1 need to be combined into 'name' How & Where do I combine these strings and then pass them? Code: [Select] <?php include('dbconfig.php'); // Make a MySQL Connection mysql_connect("localhost", "$user", "$password") or die(mysql_error()); mysql_select_db("$database") or die(mysql_error()); $result = mysql_query( "INSERT INTO table2 (lastname, firstname, email) SELECT lastname, firstname, email FROM table1 WHERE email='someemail@gmail.com' ") or die(mysql_error()); ?> Similar TutorialsI have no idea and there is no reason why this should not be working. im simply trying to add three variables into a database, and only one works. the other two do not work for any reason i can find. can someone point out my error, if any? code: <?php $date = date("Y-m-d"); $dbc = mysqli_connect('localhost', 'root', '', 'timer') or die('Error connecting to DB'); $query = @"INSERT INTO sessions (date, user, sessiontime) VALUES ('$date', '$user', '$sessiontime')"; $user = @$_GET['user']; $sessiontime = @$_GET['clock']; if (@$_GET['addDB'] == "Session Complete") { mysqli_query($dbc, $query) or die( '<br>Query string: ' . $query . '<br>Produced error: ' . mysqli_error($dbc) ); } ?> Form: Code: [Select] <label for="user"><b><em>Your name: </b></em></label><br /><input type="text" name="user" value="Admin/User" /> <input id="clock" name="clock" type="text" value="00:00:0" readonly><br> <input id="startstopbutton" type="button" value="S t a r t" onClick="startstop();" style="font-weight:bold"><br> <input type="submit" name="addDB" value="Session Complete" /> See, all the variables match up!? I dont get what im doing wrong? Hello! How do I insert the content of two different variables into the SAME field in a table? Let's say, that variable A contains the word "blue" and variable B contains the word "sky". How do I "merge" these to variables into only one variable containing the words "Blue Sky"? Best regards Morris I am trying to modify a header redirect similar to this: header("Location: index.html"); exit; I would like to do something like this: header("Location: index.html?user=' . $user . '"); exit; Ofcourse, this does not work. Any hints? I am new to PHP and am currently learning the ropes. I have writen some code to insert a line into a mySQL database. I have created 3 fields in the mySQL database and am passing values two them. I can use a declared variable to pass information to the filed ID (Index filed in mySQL) but if I use a variable to pass purely text values the database is not updated. mysql_query( "INSERT INTO $tbl_name (category_Name, ID, test) VALUES ($category, $internalId, $category2)" ); If I replace the variables with specific text, the rows are added successfully. mysql_query( "INSERT INTO $tbl_name (category_Name, ID, test) VALUES ('werwerwer', $internalId, 'werrr')" ); It must be something stupid, I am sure. Full code below ob_start(); $host="localhost:8888"; // Host name $username=""; // Mysql username $password=""; // Mysql password $db_name="expenses"; // Database name $tbl_name="expense_category"; // Table name $category="test3"; $internalId="7"; $category2="test3"; // Connect to server and select databse. mysql_connect("$host", "$username", "$password")or die("cannot connect"); mysql_select_db("$db_name")or die("cannot select DB"); mysql_query( "INSERT INTO $tbl_name (category_Name, ID, test) VALUES ('werwerwer', $internalId, 'werrr')" ); echo "Done now 6!"; ?> This topic has been moved to MySQL Help. http://www.phpfreaks.com/forums/index.php?topic=357712.0 Hi, I would like to do the following in PHP using a MySQL database, but not sure how. select a, b,c etc.. from mailbox where id = X then insert id,a,b,c etc.. into problem When I select, I will be calling the id So I would like it to get data from mailbox and then insert it into problem. How would I go about doing this? Thanks for any help you can give me Hi,
I'm really at a loss here.
I have queried a table to get an option list, which returns what I expect but I need to then add it to some current code instead of the fixed option list presented.
The syntax is beyond me.
Please see attached.
Any pointers would be great.

I have looked everywhere and not found a solution, at all. // Selects the data I need <?php mysql_connect("PRIVATE INFO","PRIVATE INFO","PRIVATE INFO") or die("Could not connect: " . mysql_error()); mysql_select_db("wpdb"); $result = mysql_query("SELECT ID FROM wp_posts WHERE post_title LIKE '%future%' AND post_status = 'publish' OR post_title LIKE '%option%' AND post_content LIKE '%fundamental%' AND post_status = 'publish' ORDER BY post_date DESC"); while ($row = mysql_fetch_array($result, MYSQL_ASSOC)) { echo $row['ID']; echo "<br />";}; ?> Thought maybe something like the following would work, but am at a loss: INSERT INTO wp_term_relationships (object_id, term_taxonomy_id, term_order) SELECT ID FROM wp_posts WHERE post_title LIKE '%future%' AND post_status = 'publish' OR post_title LIKE '%option%' AND post_content LIKE '%fundamental%' AND post_status = 'publish' ORDER BY post_date DESC while ($row = mysql_fetch_array($result, MYSQL_ASSOC)) VALUES ($row['ID'], '25', '0') Well, I made this yesterday then realised, I need to check is it exists... I got this but when I go to accept the application and the member exists in the table it enters it anyway... Zacron What I'm wanting to do is pass the $propertyid = "1"; threw my select value as you can see. so it passes variable so to speak.' Code: [Select] print "<td>Control:<form action=\"dashboard.php\" method=\"GET\" target=\"_self\"> <select name=\"control\" onChange=\"this.form.submit()\"> <option selected></option> <option>Take a Payment</option> <option>Print Ledger </option> <option>-----------------</option> <option value=\"comadd?propid=$propertyid\">Add Communication</option> <option>----------------</option> <option>Modify Property</option> <option>Remote Property</option> </select></td>"; I am simply trying to insert a value generated from an array in a while loop, but it seems the value is not global and I can't pass it as I like. I did some research on this, but could not find an answer that solved my issue... Here is my select box code which is working perfect: <select name="city"> <?php $sql = "SELECT id, city_name FROM cities ". "ORDER BY city_name"; $results_set = (mysqli_query($cxn, $sql)) or die("Was not able to produce the result set!"); while($row = mysqli_fetch_array($results_set)) { echo "<option value=$row[id]>$row[city_name]</option>"; } ?> </select> Are any variables defined in a while loop global to the while loop only? Here is my SQL which you can see my $row[id] being passed thru field city_id... The value is being generated as supposed to based on value like: value="1", value="2" etc.. for the select options for each city name. So the values are there... But I CANNOT get that numerical id to pass to the database when submitting my form. Any ideas for a workaround to get this value passing as normal? if (isset($_POST['addPosting'])) { $query = "INSERT INTO Postings (id, city_id, title, description) VALUES ('','$row[id]','$_POST[title]','$_POST[description]')"; could anyone please help me with the code which is i have already displayed data as a multi select list but now i need to select one or more from them and insert into another database table. would be appreciate your help. thanx Say I have two variables like below. I basically want to select one of them, but through random choice. How do I do that? $orange = 'Orange'; $apple = 'Apple';
Code: [Select] $query = "SELECT content FROM license WHERE serial = '".$serial."'"; I'm not sure if this is possible
Previously I had a problem of outputting rows of a specific query
This was the solution that was given to me
$txt .= $date . " " . $stratoparse . "\n\n";Where a while loop's results were concatenated to a single string What I would like to do is output the results in individual containers with controls such as dragging for repositioning / an x for deletion That's not what I'm here for in this post I want to embed youtube videos, so they are not just stored as links, rather a clickable video so if you have something like string.string2.string3.string4.string5.<iframe src="youtube"...>.string7.string8 how would that video be isolated and parsed / understood as a front end youtube video ? To provide a brief background in case you are wondering why in my right mind, I would want to do this... First it is the primary solution that comes to mind going off what already works Secondly, the purpose or point of the concatenated string comes from the "application" design which is a store and recall interface. Vague, I know. The website has multiple users and they all have access to a single database. They save random strings, whether they are paragraphs or links, possibly videos that are uploaded, etc... these are saved by a keyphrase, later recalled by searching that keyphrase. Currently the output is nothing more than a concatenated string, that was fine initially but some of my friends have been testing the website and they made suggestions which are good such as repositioning and deleting entries. Now I want to automatically parse youtube links into embedded videos... I'll probably use that explode "function" to disect the link and place the url within the src=" " Anyway, I have to look into this but if anyone has any thoughts I'd appreciate it. Edited by moose-en-a-gant, 11 January 2015 - 02:05 AM. Hi everyone, I have this php code, which connects to a mysql database (through dbconnect.php) and is meant to select the lowest difference between two variables. I can't get very far. The most valuable differences are not the lowest per se, as much as the closest to 0, either positive or negative. Both numbers are positive integers. The page dictates the relative 'ranking' of the page, by multiplying the rank by 20, so that with each successive page, the retrospective line is 20 higher in ranking. The section 20*$page+x is not a value, but a ranking, so the instance would by, in words 'select the lowest difference between two numbers. If the number closest to 0 cannot be selected, can we find the highest value out of the two variables and subtract the lower (they are interchangeable) Code: [Select] <?php $page = $_GET['page']; include("dbc.php") //connect to mysql database $result = mysql_query("SELECT * FROM posts {WHERE (ROW1-ROW2) = 20*$page +1}"); // { indicates my unsure section while($row = mysql_fetch_array($result)){ $id = $row['id']; $username = $row['id']; $sum1 = $row['id']; $sum2 = $row['id']; } $result1 = mysql_query("SELECT * FROM posts {WHERE (ROW1-ROW2) = 20*$page +2}"); // { indicates my unsure section while($row1 = mysql_fetch_array($result1)){ $id2 = $row['id']; $username2 = $row['id']; $2sum1 = $row['id']; $2sum2 = $row['id']; } //this continues with the mysql $page+x increasing successively ?> Also, could we apply a formula that would increase the weighting of those with a higher sum. Thanks a lot, this is really over my head Jack Not sure why this isnt working.
