PHP - How Do I Format Checkboxes To Input Them Into Mysql Database
Hi people.
I have a form which inputs into a database. Here is the code that inserts a yes no option... Code: [Select] <select name = "consent"> <option value = "Yes" <?php if ($_POST['consent'] == 'Yes') { echo 'selected="selected"'; } ?>>Yes</option> <option value = "No" <?php if ($_POST['consent'] == 'No') { echo 'selected="selected"'; } ?>>No</option> </select> However, I have been asked if I can make it a yes or no checkbox instead. Please can you tell me how I need to code it so that the "yes" or "no" is recorded in the DB. At the moment I just have this Code: [Select] <input name="consent" type="checkbox" value="Yes" />Yes<br /> <input name="consent" type="checkbox" value="No" />No<br /> Thanks in advance VinceG Similar TutorialsWe recently upgraded from PHP4 to PHP5 and the below script that was working perfectly in 4 has completely stopped working and I can't figure out why for the life of me. I'm not an experienced PHP programmer--I've done some forms, but this is the first time I've used a database. What needs to (and was) happen: A user enters their username in the form and gets a readout of their participation so far that month. The problem(s): I know that it's storing the variable 'user' because it echoes it back properly, but the database is no longer allowing me to select the row based on that variable. I know it's not that I can't connect to the database because if instead of '$user' I change the code to a username I know is in there, I get the proper readout. This all started as soon as I transferred over to PHP5--before that, no problems at all. The database information is all correct, I just took it out for privacy's sake. <form id="feedback" method="post" action="index.php"> <input name="user" type="text" value="Enter user name" size="20" maxlength="50" /><br /> <input name="send" id="send" type="submit" value="Submit" /> </form> <?php if (isset($_POST['user'])) { $_session['user'] = $_POST['user']; } ?> <p>You entered your username as: <strong><? echo $_session['user'];?></strong>. If this is not correct or you do not see your information below, please re-enter your username and click Submit again.</p> <?php $con = mysql_connect("database","username","password"); if (!$con) { die('Could not connect: ' . mysql_error()); } mysql_select_db("database", $con); $result = mysql_query("SELECT * FROM March WHERE Username='$user'") or die ('Error: '.mysql_error ()); while($row = mysql_fetch_array($result)) { echo "<table border='0'>"; echo "<tr>"; echo "<td><strong>Username:</strong> </td><td>" . $row['Username'] . I've got a couple hundred people who use this on a regular basis and are starting to ask why it's not working. I have a very tricky php problem here. At least for me. On a page that is editing a job entry. I have a database generated group of checkboxes some of which have been checked when the job was entered. So the script has to do two things generate the complete list of checkboxes and check the ones that have already been selected in the job request. The below script is what I've done trying to figure it out. Description of what I'm trying to do: I'm generating the the boxes with a call to my database for the list of checkboxes. Then I'm building an array with all the possible items that could be checked to compare against. Ok here is where I think my first problem is. I need to make a second query to another table "worklog" in the same database. This is where the list of checked items are stored. What is the best way to do this? A second query seems wrong "or at least not efficient" Code: [Select] <div class="text">Job Type (<a class="editlist" href="javascript:editlist('listedit.php?edit=typelist',700,400);">edit list</a>):</div> <div class="field"> <?PHP $connection=mysql_connect ("localhost", "user", "password") or die ("I cannot connect to the database."); $db=mysql_select_db ("database", $connection) or die (mysql_error()); $query = "SELECT type FROM typelist ORDER BY type ASC"; $sql_result = mysql_query($query, $connection) or die (mysql_error()); $i=1; echo '<table valign="top"><tr><td>'; while ($row = mysql_fetch_array($sql_result)) { $type = $row["type"]; if ($i > 1 && $i % 26 == 0) echo '</td><td>'; else if ($i) echo ''; ++$i; $aTypes = array ("Spec Ad Campaign", "100 x 100 Logo", "100 x 35 (Featured Developer/Broker)", "100 x 40 (Featured Lender)", "120 x 180 (Home Page Auto)", "120 x 45 (Half Tile - Jobs)", "120x60 (Section Sponsor)", "125 x 40 (Profile Page logo)", "135 x 31 (Autos)", "135 x 60 (Autos)", "135 x 60 (Logotile - Jobs)", "150 x 40 (Auto Logo)", "160 x 240 (monster tile)", "160 x 400 (Skyscraper)", "160 x 600 (Tower)", "170x30 (Section Sponsor)", "240 x 180 JPG/GIF Auto Video", "240 x 180 size FLV video ", "300 x 250 (Story Ad)", "300 x 600 (Halfpage)", "468 x 60 (Banner Jpg/Gif)", "728 x 90 (Leaderboard)", "95 x 75 (Sweeps Logo) ", "Agent Profile Page", "Contest", "Creative Change", "Employer Profile", "Holiday Shop", "Home of the Week", "HP Half Banner (234 x 60 Static)", "Mobile Ads (320x53 *300x50*216x36*168x28)", "Newsletter", "Peelback", "Pencil Ad", "Print", "Real Deals", "Resize ad campaign", "Roll-Over Skyscraper", "Site Sponsor logo (170x30)", "Splash Page Production", "Travel Deals Update", "Video Ad", "Web Development", "Web Maintenance", "Web Quote (or Design)"); $dbTypes = explode(',',$row['type']); foreach ($aTypes as $type){ if(in_array($aType,$dbTypes)){ echo "<input style='font-size:10px;' name='type[]' type='checkbox' value='$type' CHECKED><span style='color:#000;'>$type</span></input><br/>"; }else { echo "<input style='font-size:10px;' name='type[]' type='checkbox' value='$type'><span style='color:#000;'>$type</span></input><br/>"; } } } echo '</td></tr></table>'; ?> </div> Hello all,
I am completely sideways right now trying to get this to work. Basically I am attempting to make a form that fetches results based on a drop down and then populates a text box that the user can then edit. I have several issues, first of all, I would have to use check boxes for if a user has a certain file on record. Which would be editable, however, I have had issues displaying tinyint values of -1 as true and 0 as false.
Secondly, writing the data back to the table after clicking a submit button, I have still issues with checkboxes here and am thoroughly confused to if I need to use an array or what here.
Thirdly, should I be using PDO or mysql for this? We have an older NAS device that I will be running this on and the firmware is older.
All the info is stored in the same table, and would be selecting a single record at a time for a user to edit. I was thinking I would just write back ALL values to the table when submit is clicked? Is that a bad idea?
As you can tell I just need someone to kick my butt in the right direction, I feel like I have read all the different ways to skin a cat but confused myself in the process.
Thanks
Hey everyone i having some trouble updating records in my databse using checkbox from a form. I can update the records, but i can't figure out how to remove records at the same time. I've posted the code that i'm using to update below foreach($_POST['tag'] as $k=>$l){ $tag = mysql_real_escape_string($_POST['tag'][$k]); $check_tags = mysql_query("SELECT * FROM file_cats WHERE category='$tag'") or die(mysql_error()); $num_tags = mysql_num_rows($check_tags); if($num_tags==0){ $add_tag = mysql_query("INSERT into file_cats (fileID, category) VALUES('$fileID', '$tag')") or die(mysql_error()); } } This code inserts new records based on what the user checked. If it exist it won't add a new row, if it doesn't exist then it will add a new row. but like i said how can remove a row if the box is no longer checked? I've tried using foreach(empty($_POST['tag'] as $k => $l){ $tag = empty($_POST['tag']['$k']; } But that didn't work basically nothing was deleted. Has anyone done something like this before? if so i would appreciate any help you could give I use the following code to generate a scrollable checkbox list of options: Code: [Select] <html> <form action="SCRIPT.php"> <?php $expList = array('Engineering ','Science', 'Art', 'IT', 'Electronics', 'Communications'); sort($expList); $tmp = array(); $i = 1; $tmp[] = '<ul style="height: 95px; overflow: auto; width: 200px; border: 1px solid #480091; list-style-type: none; margin: 0; padding: 0;">'; foreach ($expList as $option) { $tmp[] = '<li id="li' . $i . 'b"><label for="chk' . $i . 'b"><input name="chk' . $i . 'b" id="chk' . $i . 'b" type="checkbox" onchange="Enable(\'chk' . $i . 'b\',\'li' . $i . 'b\')">' . $option . '</label></li>'; $i++; } $tmp[] = '</ul>'; echo implode("\n",$tmp) . "\n"; ?> <input type="submit"> </form> </html> But there are in fact over 50 options (not just 6) and they are in fact stored in an array $expList in an external php file called LISTS.php. As you can see, the checkbox list consists of checkboxes chk1b, chk2b, chk3b, etc. with associated labels (Art, Communications, Electronics, etc.). What I need in SCIPT.php is code that will insert each of the labels where the associated checkbox has been checked in my MySQL database. E.g. in this particular case: if chk1b & chk3b have been checked, 'Art' & 'Electronics' will be inserted. Also, I want the label of the first checked checkbox to be inserted in the (database) table column 'Exp1', the 2nd one in 'Exp2'.........25th one in 'Exp25' (I already have a script that allows a maximum of 25 checkboxes to be checked). I'm guessing some sort of 'foreach' loop is required, but I can't quite work it out. Pls help! Many thanks! Hi. I have an input field where a date is entered, format dd-mm-yy. I need to query the database to see if this date exists. How can I convert the date to yyyymmdd before the query? Thanks I was fiddling around with php and concerning data in a mysql database. All I was wanting to understand was being able to remove values with cheking multiple items in outputted html list. One that reads a set of values from a database, then displays a check box allowing the user to delete such values, that's it basically, here is my script I used to do it: Code: [Select] <?php function deleteRow($value) { $sql = "DELETE FROM checkbox WHERE value LIKE '$value'"; $result = mysql_query($sql); } if(array_key_exists('delete', $_POST)){ if(isset($_POST['value'])) { $count = count($_POST['value']); $connect = mysql_connect('localhost', 'jeremy', 's56pj989'); if($connect) { $select_db = mysql_select_db('test'); if($select_db) { for($i=0; $i<$count; $i++){ // print 'This is item = '.$_POST['value'][$i]; // outputs fine if(strlen($_POST['value'][$i]) > 0) { deleteRow($_POST['value'][$i]); } } } } } } ?> <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd"> <html lang="en"> <head> <title></title> </head> <body> <form id="myform" name="myform" action="<?=$_SERVER['PHP_SELF']; ?>" method="post"> <?php if($_SERVER['REMOTE_ADDR'] == '192.168.0.2') { // printf("<p>Yes you have connected to this script successfully!</p>"); $connect = mysql_connect('localhost', 'mydbuser', 'mydatabasepassword'); if($connect) { // printf("<p>You have now connected to the database, well done!</p>"); $select_db = mysql_select_db('test'); if($select_db) { // printf("<p>Selected database now</p>"); $sql = 'SELECT * FROM checkbox'; $result = mysql_query($sql); if($result) { if(mysql_num_rows($result)>0){ while($row = mysql_fetch_assoc($result)) { printf("%s <input type=\"checkbox\" name=\"value[]\" value=\"%s\">\n<br />\n", $row['value'], $row['value']); } } else { printf("<p>No rows in system!</p>"); } } } } } ?> <input type="submit" id="delete" name="delete" value="Delete" /> </form> </body> </html> There must be a better way shouldn't there? I am not too concerned with error checking, ie if result of removing the values doesnt work, since I will just use this as an example of how to do this. Going on from that, how would I allow it to update a set of say changed values, just purely out of interest, pretty happy since it works though this script. But I was also wondering if there's some easy way of updating a set of values perhaps? Hmm good though and I look forward to any replies, Jeremy. having a small issue setting up a search, trying to use check boxes, here is my form code <form action="workorder_index.php" method="POST"> <input type="checkbox" name="wos_0" <? if($wos_0 != NULL) { echo "checked"; }?>>0 - Active <input type="checkbox" name="wos_1" <? if($wos_1 != NULL) { echo "checked"; }?>>1 - Completed awaiting pickup <input type="checkbox" name="wos_2" <? if($wos_2 != NULL) { echo "checked"; }?>>2 - Completed and out the door <input type="checkbox" name="wos_3" <? if($wos_3 != NULL) { echo "checked"; }?>>3 - Waiting call back <input type="checkbox" name="wos_4" <? if($wos_4 != NULL) { echo "checked"; }?>>4 - Waiting for parts<br> <input type="checkbox" name="wos_5" <? if($wos_5 != NULL) { echo "checked"; }?>>5 - Parts in waiting for completion <input type="checkbox" name="wos_6" <? if($wos_6 != NULL) { echo "checked"; }?>>6 - not used <input type="checkbox" name="wos_7" <? if($wos_7 != NULL) { echo "checked"; }?>>7 - Overdue for pickup <input type="checkbox" name="wos_8" <? if($wos_8 != NULL) { echo "checked"; }?>>8 - Scrapped per customer <input type="checkbox" name="wos_9" <? if($wos_9 != NULL) { echo "checked"; }?>>9 - Scrapped by overdue<br><br> <input type="hidden" value="1" name="customsearch"> <input type="Submit" value="Update"> </form> here is my handling code $wos_0=$_POST[wos_0]; $wos_1=$_POST[wos_1]; $wos_2=$_POST[wos_2]; $wos_3=$_POST[wos_3]; $wos_4=$_POST[wos_4]; $wos_5=$_POST[wos_5]; $wos_6=$_POST[wos_6]; $wos_7=$_POST[wos_7]; $wos_8=$_POST[wos_8]; $wos_9=$_POST[wos_9]; if(isset($_POST['customsearch'])) { $str=''; if($wos_0 != NULL) { $str.= "'0'"; } if($wos_1 != NULL) { $str.= ",'1'"; } if($wos_2 != NULL) { $str.= ",'2'"; } if($wos_3 != NULL) { $str.= ",'3'"; } if($wos_4 != NULL) { $str.= ",'4'"; } if($wos_5 != NULL) { $str.= ",'5'"; } if($wos_6 != NULL) { $str.= ",'6'"; } if($wos_7 != NULL) { $str.= ",'7'"; } if($wos_8 != NULL) { $str.= ",'8'"; } if($wos_9 != NULL) { $str.= ",'9'"; } $query="SELECT * FROM workorders a INNER JOIN customers b ON a.customer_id = b.customer_id WHERE a.workorder_status IN (".$str.") [= I don't have much time to read through all of the forums, because I'm on a time crunch and I'll be putting this certain project behind a couple others while I wait for some answers. This project is confusing me a bit, because I haven't worked much with arrays and the good ol' checkbox, so I need some help getting this to work. This project requires me to set-up a checkbox next to each order that was pulled off a database. You are allowed to select as many checkboxes as you'd like, and then click on the "process receipts" for all of the orders that were selected. I need to be able to have the form send me straight to a new page that pulls a loop of receipts one after another. I have the receipts built, and I can access a receipt one at a time based off the ID of a certain order, and I can easily build a loop that presents the receipts. I'm just having a problem pulling the information off the database based from the checkbox array. If you can give me some ideas on where to start with this, I'd greatly appreciate it. Note: Example is inside a hidden administrative page. Can't really give you something to play with, sorry! QQ Thanks! Alex D.A. Designing Hey all... I'm running into a problem here. If you take a look at the code for this, you'll see it's to enter "horses" into a "class." It's all fine and dandy except I'm trying to get the way the horses are selected to have a different option. Right now they exist as a drop down/select option where you have to choose one at a time and enter submit. My goal is to have checkboxes that users can toggle and submit them all at once (with the rest of the eligibility checks etc still applicable). I've looked it up and the problem is, each user has a different amount of horses, so I can't account for all of them manually. Could someone help me out? On DaniWeb a user was trying to help me with an implode option, but I have zero idea how to work with that. I will literally need my hand to be held through this one. Thank you in advance - I have been trying to do this myself for a good chunk of the day, but my PHP skills are quite limited. Code: [Select] <?php session_start(); // Maintain session state header("Cache-control: private"); // Fixes IE6's back button problem. $page_title = "Class Information"; include('header.php'); $class_id = $_GET['id']; $enter = $_POST['enter_horse']; $enter_check = $_POST['check']; $horse_id = $_POST['horse_id']; //general show information $result = @mysql_query("SELECT s.show_id, s.player_id, s.type, s.name, DATEDIFF(s.run_date, NOW()) AS datedif, c.class_id, s.entry_fee FROM classes c, shows s WHERE c.class_id='$class_id' AND c.show_id=s.show_id LIMIT 1")or die("Cannot find class! Everything is working fine, except that I just now realized my checkboxes don't put any entry in. It's just leaving it's respective smallint field as a default "0". Being new, I've must've overlooked how to handle these. The form's checkboxes have a bit of code in the value that remembers what users chose in case they have to backtrack and redo their form. How would I solve the problem and keep this code? Here's what all the checkboxes are written like: Code: [Select] <input type="checkbox" name="green_leaf" value="<?php if(isset($_POST['1'])) echo $_POST['1']; ?>" > green I currently have a page where I have each row in my table listed using: Code: [Select] $getinfo="SELECT * FROM tablename WHERE Closed='n'"; $result=mysql_query($getinfo); while ($row=mysql_fetch_array($result)){ ... // list of user information } That successfully displays my content. What I am trying to do is have a checkbox next to each user (row) that when I check them and hit submit at the bottom, it will change the value of each row on the 'Closed' column to 'y' so it will not be displayed when the page is refreshed. I want to be able to select multiple items to "close". And I would like it to come back to this page. I think I can use this page as the form action and have the code above my while loop to change the Closed column so it then would not be displayed when the while loop is called... is that right? How do I set this up? Not sure where to start the form tag and where to end it, and not sure how to...well...do any of it. I have figured out far enough to loop through my table and return a list of check boxes that will be matched to a product. My issue now, is i cannot figure out the proper way to loop through them after they are selected and return them as checked/unchecked for the given product. Thought there is some MySQL involved, that part isn't the problem, I know how to insert into a database or update...when the product is selected from a drop down, I need to be able to populate the checkboxes. Here is the code i am using to initially display all of the categories to choose from... <ul class="categories"> <?php $query = "SELECT * FROM products"; $result = mysql_query($query) or die(mysql_error()); while ($row = mysql_fetch_assoc($result)) { $category = $row['category']; $catId = $row['id']; echo "<li><input class='catCheck' type='checkbox' name='p_cat[]' value='$catId' /> $category</li>"; } ?> </ul> Thanks guys.... I have a table in a mysql database with 5 columns, id, Name, Wifi, Bluetooth, GPS, with rows that are for example 1, Galaxy S2, yes, yes, yes. So basically i want to build a form that has check boxes (3 checkboxes for wifi bluetooth and GPS respectively) that once selected will query the database depending on which check boxes are selected. I have made the form but need to know what to put in the filter.php to make the results be displayed accordingly. Ideally if anyone knows how i would want it so the results were shown on the same page which i believe u need to use ajax to happen but any help on how to show the results will be greatful. the code for the form i have made is as follows: Code: [Select] <html> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8"> <title>test</title> </head> <body> <form action="filter.php" method="post"> <INPUT TYPE=CHECKBOX NAME="option[]" VALUE="Wifi" id="r1">Wifi <INPUT TYPE=CHECKBOX NAME="option[]" VALUE="Bluetooth" id="b1">Bluetooth <INPUT TYPE=CHECKBOX NAME="option[]" VALUE="GPS" id="g1">GPS <input type="submit" name="formSubmit" value="Submit" /> </form> </body> </html> im not sure on how to make the filter.php page but i do have this code for displaying the all the data but i want to kno how to make it only display the data from the choices on the checkboxes Code: [Select] <html> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8"> <title>pls work</title> </head> <body> <?php function h($s) { echo htmlspecialchars($s); } mysql_connect("localhost", "root", "") or die (mysql_error()); mysql_select_db("project") or die (mysql_error()); $result= mysql_query('SELECT * FROM test') or die('Error, query failed'); ?> <?php if (mysql_num_rows($result)==0) { ?> Database is empty <br/> <?php } else { ?> <table> <tr> <th></th> <th>Name</th> <th>Wifi</th> <th>Bluetooth</th> <th>GPS</th> </tr> <?php while ($row= mysql_fetch_assoc($result)) { ?> <tr> <td> <a href="uploaded-images/<?php h($row['Name']); ?>.jpg"> <img src="uploaded-images/<?php h($row['Name']); ?>.jpg" alt="test"/> </a> </td> <td><a href="textonly.html"><?php h($row['Name']); ?></a></td> <td><?php h($row['Wifi']); ?></td> <td><?php h($row['Bluetooth']); ?></td> <td><?php h($row['GPS']); ?></td> </tr> <?php } ?> </table> <?php } ?> </body> </html> Hi, I am having difficulty deleting rows in my table using check boxes. And using a form, it will input the data from the HTMLarea into a mysql database table. But, the formatting breaks the MySQL query. How can I parse the information so this wouldnt happen? The exact error is: Code: [Select] 1064 You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near ' content in: [INSERT into zen_blog (id, content, active) VALUES ('', content , )!] If you were entering information, press the BACK button in your browser and re-check the information you had entered to be sure you left no blank fields. Hi all - I am parsing info from mysql into a php table but the date being returned is in YYYY-MM-DD format and I want it DD-MM-YYYY. How would I do this? Code at the moment is: Code: [Select] $link = connect(); function get_user_posts(){ $getPosts = mysql_query('SELECT a.id as id,a.post as question, a.answer as answer, a.created as created, a.updated as updated, b.vclogin as admin FROM user_posts as a, admin as b WHERE a.admin_id=b.adminid',connect()); return $getPosts; } Code: [Select] <table class="list"> <tr> <th><?php echo getlocal("upost.post") ?></th> <th><?php echo getlocal("upost.answer") ?></th> <th><?php echo getlocal("upost.admin") ?></th> <th><?php echo getlocal("upost.created") ?></th> <th><?php echo getlocal("upost.updated") ?></th> <th></th> <th></th> </tr> <?php $all_questions = get_user_posts(); while ($question = mysql_fetch_assoc($all_posts)): ?> <tr> <td><?php echo $post['post']?></td> <td><?php echo $post['answer']?></td> <td><?php echo $post['admin']?></td> <td><?php echo $post['created']?></td> <td><?php echo $post['updated']?></td> <td><a href="javascript:user_post('<?php echo $post['id']?>')">edit</a></td> <td><a href="javascript:delete_post('<?php echo $post['id']?>')">delete</a></td> </tr> THANKS! Hi, I'm trying to insert this $inceptiondate = date("Y-m-d 12:00:00"); to the database, the Y-m-d does make it to database, but the 12:00pm doesn't. Whenever it reaches the database, it becomes 00:00:00 Where did I got wrong? Thanks |
