The first section of php in this thread is extracted from the second. It is where the problem lies - ($newItem = $XMLpage->createElement('item', $updateValue);).


I am trying to simply add an element into an xml document via DOMDocument.createElement(). However the following returns a fatal error:

I've come to my phpsqlajax_genxml.php file which as the google code has it like this:

I started with this but was getting errors at line 1!! I looked around abit on the net and found i should change

$doc = domxml_new_doc("1.0");

to this

$doc = new DOMDocument('1.0');

Then i got errors abour creating the elements, i looke on php.net and it looked like i needed to change

$node = $doc->create_element("markers");
$parnode = $doc->append_child($node);
$newnode->set_attribute("name", $row['name']);


To this:

$node = $doc->createElement('markers');
$parnode = $doc->appendChild($node);
$newnode->setAttribute ('name', $row['name']);

This at least got my code further down the page until the very last statment:

$xmlfile = $doc->dump_mem();

Here i'm getting this error "Fatal error: Call to undefined method DOMDocument::dump_mem()" along with "Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent"

I havent even looked at the warning i just tried to fix the fatal error. Again i looked around the web and forums and php.net and thought maybe i need to set the value to "true" but it still got a fatal error.

I looked on php.net and in there examples for dump_mem() and they had the nodes set_attribute create_element and append_child.

Which confused me as that was what i used originally just following the google script and that got me the error right away "Fatal error to undefined method DOMDocument::create"


Can anybody point out whats going wrong? This is my script that I am using

I removed the last half of the file, but what makes the login($username, $password) function not static? I want to access it statically, but I am getting an error. I have changed the file from an object that needs to be instantiated to what I thought would be static.

PHP 5.3 on Windows 7 running IIS 7

Hey... when using:

$dom = DOMDocument::load( 'p:\\WebTest\\test1.xml' );where P:\ is a mapped drive, I'm getting:

Warning: DOMDocument::load(): I/O warning : failed to load external entity "file:///p:/WebTest/test1.xml" in ...
I've also tried using / instead of \\. If it's on c:\, it works fine, but I can't get the absolute path to work to a mapped drive.

If I use \\\ip\\folder\\file (or //ip/folder/file) the page never loads.

Any thoughts on getting DOMDocument to look at a shared network location on Windows?

If a class has a constructor but also has a static method, if I call the static method does the constructor run so that I can use an output from the constructor in my static method?

My first post, I haved scoured the web for answers to this, have not come up with anything useful so far. I am also finding it hard to explain my problem well I suppose. None the less - here goes !

Im not a professional dev, nor do i claim to be. I have learnt everything I know about php and jquery from folks like yourselfs, youtube and various other online documentation.

The "issue"

I am building a dashboard to monitor the status of Ms Exchange 2010 queues, Exchange backup status and AD replication.

I have an index.php file in the root folder. There are an img,css,js and lib folders. Then there is a folder called "X" for argument sake - this is the company folder and contains subfolders - one for each product, so there is a "exchange" folder and an "ad" folder

For exchange and ad folders, they both have their own css,js,img and lib subfolders and can be accessed independently from the main index.php file in the root, so they are complete websites in themselfs if you were to connect to the index.php of the "exchange" and "ad" subfolders?


What I am doing now is making the root index.php act as some sort of "summary" view for those "backend" web pages.

What I'm trying to accomplish is to enable a link on the root index.php file that will use Jquery's load() method to use ajax to load parts of the "exchange" and "ad" pages depending on whic link I clicked, so for example, if i were to click the "exchange" link it must load only the bit that shows me what the queues are doing. On the full backend page it will show the queues and also the backup status.

The problem is that this backend index.php on the exchange folder has some PHP includes defined in the index.php. The paths to these files are abviously already set.

My main issue is that as soon as I load the exchange index.php using ajax load(),  i lose all css and js functionality which makes the exchange page dynamic in the first place.

I just cannot figure out how to handle already existing css,js and php includes on the backend and load them with ajax on my front page without losing functionality.

I appologise in advance if this makes no sense at all, but I really need to wrap my head around this.

I thought I was a beginner PHPer but now I'm not even sure I'm that. I have this class here which starts with:

Do you suppose that the original developer just had a singleton or something, then latter on he found that he was making more instances and PHP tolerates this behavior? Or am I missing something?

 

My script has 3 classes (that are relevant to this discussion): DB, User and Validate. They are all in independent files and loaded automatically, when required, by an autoloader.
Both the User class and the Validate class have a private variable $_db which is instantiated by their class constructor: $this->_db = DB::getInstance();
At the top of the script I declare new instances: $user = new User(); and $validate = new Validate();
I then call a method in $user: $found = $user->findInUsers ( .... )
From within the findInUsers method I then want to call the query method in the DB class. My problem is that I can't find a way to do this that works.
I have tried $this->_db->query( ... ), $_db->query( ... ), but neither works.

The error messages I am getting a
An error occurred in script '/srv/http/classes/User.php' on line 42: Undefined variable $_db
Uncaught Error: Call to a member function query() on null in /srv/http/classes/User.php:42

Any pointers as to what I am doing wrong, or what I should be doing, would be most welcome.

I am working in wordpress. I am using a switch statement to call a php page. It looks like this

The code works fine. My question is this. I want to use the exact same code to call the css file that runs each page. So instead of inlcuding a php page, I would replace that with the css call. So is it a bad idea to use the variables in the head section and then again in the page a little further down? or should I change the names? What is the best coding practice here?

What are some common standards to writing a php class?

One thing I think is a standard is using "Camel Case" (example):
public function myFunctionName
instead of using:
public function my_function_name

Is that true, and are there any others that you know about? I would like to hear what they are!

I have some code

$doc->loadHTML(

);
$doc->encoding = 'iso-8859-1';

file_put_contents('test.html', $doc->saveHTML());

when i view the output file i get
<html><head><title>Test</title></head><body></body></html>

all on one line is there no way of having it format it like the original source code so that its not all bunched together?

Hi all,

I am pretty new to php and I am having an issue trying to load an XML document. When ever I try to use Xpath it negates all the code below the line, including the HTML, and returns a white page. here is my code:

        <?php
                       $xpath = new DOMXPath("structure.xml");
         ?>
          <body>
                    hello world
           </body>
</html>

I checked phpinfo() and I have both the DOM and XPath enables and installed. I have also tried using just DOM and that worked so it is only Xpath that is not working. Ideas?
